I was going to say I’m OK with janitors just as long as they solely clean images and nothing more (NOTHING more) and can’t see IPs. But then I realized if they can’t see IPs then they can’t report the IP of the pic troll for ban. BUT I dislike the idea of some “janitor” being able to see IPs, a lot actually.

So, I thought about it and I am not sure if this is even possible but can these janitors be given the ability to move (not delete) the offending image posts to a hidden forum only mods and they could see? That way the images are out of the way and mods can ban the troll easier because all the offending posts will be in the same place opposed to all over the forum.

And I think moving posts only sometimes screws up the thread the posts are merged into right? I remember during the early days Stepho/Taengoo would move posts and the thread links would change and people got errors and a bunch of shit.

I understand that not everyone is comfortable with people being able to see your ip addresses (though I can't really understand why) and yes, we do have an option of moving the posts to a trash can instead of deleting them, but wouldn't that (only removing certain posts) just incite the troll further? Not to mention that this in turn will get increasingly frustrating and tiring for this so called janitor.

My idea of janitors was people only jsut above regular users who can't see IP addresses and cannot remove/delete posts or images, but can instead 'tag' the posts as hidden where they get forwarded for mods who review whether to delete or restore.

But alas, i'm not certain if zetaboards supports such a function.

This happens on merge only because ZB can't simply add posts to existing topic, it has to create a new combined one each time and than means new url. It's not an issue with splitting posts out of the thread, in that case url of original thread remains the same. There is also a concept of trashing posts rather than deleting them, they all end up in special section rather than get completely removed.

Just clearing up the technical aspect. Still not sure what I think about whole janitors idea personally. Will come back with my thoughts on that later. Please keep sharing yours, girls.

What I'm getting from all of this, is that the janitor will only be here to cleanse the thread of the troll images, that's it, they won't even have to deal with the text they sometimes post, and they certainly won't have to deal with shit stirring, isabellas and such since those we can live with for a few hours. Point being, that they will have no moderation abilities other than trashing* posts.

If these volunteers are up for staying a good while just trashing image after image until a mod comes up and bans those ip addresses, then I will say nothing more.

I have the same understanding with Yuwree and Ihla, like I said, i'd apply for the job only to clean and nothing else :)

again, the rest are up to you girls

I've just checked and I believe we can do that. We can give some members ability to hide posts for everyone but mods without removing them from the thread. They would not even need to be given ability to edit/delete posts, so that's as safe as it can get.

I would like to apply but I know I have a history on this forum and a warning so I won't :3
But might I suggest that we appoint two Janitors, one from the Australasian Peak timezones and one for perhaps central European/ Greenwhich Mean Time? That way we have the mods on (during what I believe is American peak time?) and a Janitor from Europe and a Janitor from Australasia so we have generally full coverage and overlap?

The point of the janitor is to clean images so if they don't like the cleaning aspect of the job (which is all they would do), they shouldn't apply besides trolls know their images will end up getting delete at one point in time anyhow. Janitors are just to get the images out of users sights because depending on the content they might just get scarred. That reminds me, whoever is janitor should be OK or have the strong stomach to view the image while dealing with them. No lightweights need apply.

Yah that was my understanding, well as long as the main thread isn't affected its all good.

So what we have now:
1) Janitors will be able to mark post as hidden right in the body of the thread. It would mean mods/admins/janitors will keep seeing it there highlighted in different color but no one else will
2) Janitors will be able to undo this action by themselves to correct mistakes on the fly
3) Mods/ admins will be able to undo it any moment, admins will be able to see who did that in admin logs
4) Janitors will not see IPs, have ability to delete or edit other people's posts, have access anywhere other members have no access to
5) Janitors will only handle graphic content: pornography, peen, gore

Can we have a better name for these people? Something along the lines of quick reaction force, emergency unit, or something sgsd-style?

If you'd like to help out, please apply through Contact Staff form using 'Other' as the reason. Don't forget to specify your time zone in GMT format. There are no requirements other than being a registered user for initial application. We'll have to see all offers we get to find a best way to make final choices.

Call them Silencers because they will be silencing pic troll posts, you know since they aren't deleting just hiding.

Silencers. :gaypimp:

Just to be clear they will only be hiding pic troll posts right? Though gotta say I liked them moving the posts better than hiding them. Meh.

Any particular reason? As a user you would not see any difference between it being moved or hidden. Only admins, mods and janitors themselves would.

Moving requires more clicks and is much more error-prone.

"Silencers" sounds somewhat sinister to me.. I would volunteer but feel like I'm online too sporadically to be effective in the role.

They are not mouths to feed. Neither there is any privacy/security issue in this particular case. The choice is between having offensive pictures disappear fast and having them hanging there for a while. I simply see no reasons to pick the latter but I could be missing something.

IDK I just have the image of something failing and popping up when it shouldn't AND moving them physically rids the thread of the posts. I get the notion that moving would mean more clicks but really if moving a post is that hard for someone they like shouldn't be any job, at all.

@babycakes

It's not sinister it's badass. :gaypimp: Fine, how about Wipers? Wiping the pic troll filth away.

I think it's a splendid idea since most of the moderators are from the (south) American timezone.

No one wants to see gore pictures. -_-

This would not be achieved by a custom script. It's a core function of the forum. The post would be simply marked as waiting for approval and mods would get rid of it for good once they come online.

It's not laziness that makes moving the inferior option. It's just something very easy to do wrong. Default settings of ZB split posts as a topic into same section (General Discussion in our case), moving the post somewhere by default has 'leave the link in original section' enabled. When you try to do something fast it's just very easy to forget to change default settings and leave a lot of garbage around and 'janitors' would not even be able to clean after themselves due to lack of permissions. Another issue that if janitor splits a wrong post by mistake, there simply won't be a way to move it back in without merging (ie creating new link for the thread and breaking every single link in SGSD Feed for example).

Why make things difficult when they can be made easy?

IMG Eliminators?

I still like Silencers though even that might be too bad ass for proverbial pic troll shit scoopers.
