because they promoted most of those songs. those songs doesn't do well digitally.
I didn't know about this. strange.
those are probably the first songs someone will hear from them, they should be their flagship..and yet they don't do well digitally?
are you generalizing or are all of them bad? (I'm asking out of ignorance about the data, sorry)

their title songs obviously do a lot better digitally than non-title tracks but none of their songs are digital hits like sist4rs or tiaras. they're decent though.

Generally speaking they don't do very well digitally. You don't see $M artists on top 10 digital sale often but they do extremely well on physical sale.

I wonder why. I can see a lot of pros and cons of doing well only digitally vs. doing well only physically; I guess it's sm's "strategy", then

because the digital sales reflect public appeal and tbh none of snsd's songs have been that impactful or catchy since gee

well it's expected that they won't repeat gee, but I doubt you'd have to reach gee levels to go well;
why do digital sales reflect public appeal?

I don't think $M have good reputation on their music.... Digital reflection on the general public reputation of the song, if it's good everyone, fans or non-fans, will buy it.
Like Sister really got into the netizens/public good thanked to Alone..look at how well it did digitally.

While, physical are more on the fandom side. Doing well on physical is a good thing because it means that you have large fandom (with the exception of soshi, most of the girl groups only managed to sale maybe under 50K), and physical sale generate more money. Kpop is a female driven market...fan groups well always likely to have bigger fandoms, bigger sales.

That's why we wondered why some songs are not promoted in the album but it's extremely better than the title track ! ei. TRICK MOFOS! But 'trick and other better songs' can be an attraction to the album buyer. So, I don't think $M necessary care about digitally much...but it's better if they do! Lol.

fans alone can't keep a song up high on the digital charts for an extended period of time, so having a song that consistently charts high means that non-fans are also buying the song

like i said, they haven't been doing that poorly but their songs are usually topped by another artist within just a few weeks

thank you two for your explanations
all of this digital sales vs. physical sales plus the comments I have heard about soshi songs playing all the time everywhere in korea reminds me of "out of sight, out of mind" (which, in this case, would be a relatively avoided aspect. maybe it's a a pro of physical sales and the constant promotions or of their songs being played everywhere all the time)

public appeal of song =/= public appeal of artist
while igab was not a digital monster, soshi are still widely loved which explains why igab could be heard playing everywhere
kind of like how g@ga's newest single flopped hard but is still being played on the radio a lot

Not really for the boys, I think :ermm: it was released pretty late but same for hoot, hoot managed to get into top 10 for digital yearly chart while the boys was like 4X? IIRC*
