IA with the international market opinion. They should not just aim for the States 'coz the competition there is already too tight. Plus, the language barrier makes it hard enough for them. Investing in many markets is the key if they don't want to lose profit by taking that Hollywood-alone risk.
About the American-Asian performers an anon mentioned, IMO it is not about the ethnicity of the singers but the genre of music itself. They sell well because they're American Pop/Rock Music, not KPop or any other country's music. If SNSD wants to penetrate Billboard's Top 40 then they must do something ~innovative~ like P$y or something more familiar to the US audience. (I doubt they would want the first thing to happen because I think P$y is seen more as a comic relief. The second one, maybe they should follow the steps of, say, Spice Girls, Pussycat Dolls and Little Mix but then they need to become "sexier and edgier" for appeal and say goodbye to aegyo.) Also, consider that it is always $MP they work on; they are not solely focused on music.
I feel bad for them because they want to be recognized as "artists" not manufactured "idols", but their stay in the management stagnates their potentials.
snsd was a group that was never meant for the american market, so sm shouldn't try to force their way in now. it's like when you shoot a movie in 2D and then later decide it's so good that it should be converted into 3D, but in the end the results aren't even good and they should have saved their money and kept it in the original format.
just look at now how famous 1dir3ti0n
sm didn't intend to make snsd a group for america and that's my point. they were created to be successful in asia
LBR, all they really need to succeed is a hit song. Doesn't matter if there's 9 members, doesn't matter if they're asian, all they need is a damn good song and they can make it anywhere.
Not really
There are plenty of damn good songs that go unnoticed
imo, if it's a legitimately excellent pop song, people will pick up on it and spread it

da
like what i say before. they need HIT SONG from A list producer
just buy song from producer of which i've mentioned before. that's it.
smart management, good idea, fresh and money
Da lol it's not that easy if so everyone would be breaking America
I just want them to release another successful Korean single tbh
...then have them back on variety shows, radio shows...music shows...
i'd be pretty satisfied with this given that sm give them a good song, good choreography and don't put them back in the box.
unlikely but a girl can dream.
like w0lf, I've just watched/heard it a couple of times but damn, that's a damn fine song and nice ass choreography
Put some effort into it SM, ffs
sm literally gives no fucks for snsd in terms of quality of entertainment because they already know fans will continue buying their music regardless. the only way i could see sm stepping up is entering a different market. if fans stop buying shit, they'll just call it a day for snsd and shift their focus wholly onto their newer groups.
jessi's boobs made an appearance again and the USA thing for the girls still interesting, let's just wait and hope
but for now i'm just also hoping that what they did in Las Vegas will not only for a photobook but also for their new comeback's image teasers and MV..

why they do not give snsd music legitimacy??? what a good reason?
SNSD are awesome entertainers but as musicians they are average at best. It's not like if SM gives them green light they will suddenly learn to play instruments, write good music or become better singers. There are lots of things SM could be blamed for but they made SNSD shine with what the girls actually have. They definitely could invest more but it's a bit naive to act like SM is the only barrier between the girls and the Grammy.

yup def smart management and innovation but i think money comes alongside all those things
true to achieve success you need a great formula/idea/plan but you also need the funds to support it
Money only helps if you know where to put it, otherwise it becomes a useless commodity. They became a huge hit with Gee, and they were hardly rolling in the big dolla then.
I also think people are expecting more of SNSD than what they are. They're idols, not musicians - $M isn't interested in giving them musical legitimacy, and with good reason.
sa i agree money is useless unless utilized wisely
now i don't know what $m's intentions are with the girls i was never familiar with the idol concept. all i knew was good music, mediocre music and crappy music. when i first heard of the girls it was through their music although it was their personalities which made me a complete goner! i don't support snsd any differently to any western artist i like. so all i expect from them is good music. sure, i want the extras like shows and stuff but which fan doesn't. you're probably right in that there is a difference between an idol and a ?"regular" musician. but being an international fan i already viewed them as musicians. like i said the idol concept is very alien to me.
i think all it would take for them to ??peak again is another great album with great songs and wicked choreography. i think they would also have to promote diligently as well. but like someone said i dont think the girls themselves get much say. and like you said, i think $m just wants to get the most profit out of them
da
as sone i'm not view them as musician. their just like a barbie or idol for me

That might be your perspective, but the reality is that idols are very, very separate from musicians. They're not supposed to be about the music, they're supposed to be about an image of a personality, which is why they all do things like varieties and CFs and acting, because you're supposed to look at them as characters, not as artists.
In terms of the West, they're more like the Kardi$hians than they are any other singer.

Da x2
There are fans who actually assume the girls are great songwriters and musicians bts and that evil sm is holding them back and not allowing them to show it

I agree, and I think that most of the girls don't really want to go international and get more fame than they already have, they already seem tired of this whole thing and at their age I think they're trying to settle and go down a safer path, that's what I think.

DA ehhh i'd compare them to disney stars or boybands/girlbands in the west, not the k@rdashians

What about Stepho? She really wants to break US market.

Maybe, I didn't say all of them I think hat Stephanie might go solo after SNSD and I don't know why I don't see Taeyeon doing the same ...

DA That's admirable and all, but if she hopes to make it in the US as a singer, then her ambitions greatly outstrip her likely chance of success. IMO of course
