why they do not give snsd music legitimacy??? what a good reason?
SNSD are awesome entertainers but as musicians they are average at best. It's not like if SM gives them green light they will suddenly learn to play instruments, write good music or become better singers. There are lots of things SM could be blamed for but they made SNSD shine with what the girls actually have. They definitely could invest more but it's a bit naive to act like SM is the only barrier between the girls and the Grammy.
I agree, and I think that most of the girls don't really want to go international and get more fame than they already have, they already seem tired of this whole thing and at their age I think they're trying to settle and go down a safer path, that's what I think.
What about Stepho? She really wants to break US market.
Da
She hardly said its the be all and end all for her lol

She's American and would like to promote in America. I'd say most Americans in Korea would want that. Doesn't mean it's their life's ambition.

Maybe, I didn't say all of them I think hat Stephanie might go solo after SNSD and I don't know why I don't see Taeyeon doing the same ...
da

maybe $m should try stepho as solo singer
maybe can break us market. of course with good concept :D

Meh, you might be right, but Di$ney stars do still produce music primarily, and the programs they're on are primarily directed towards music, and they do tend to have some semblance of musical talent outside of their voices and production, like playing instruments.

My point was that SNSD don't exist for the music or musical talent, and that's secondary to them simply existing in the public eye, much like non-musical celebrities do with their reality TV shows (Western variety shows, pretty much).

DA That's admirable and all, but if she hopes to make it in the US as a singer, then her ambitions greatly outstrip her likely chance of success. IMO of course

There is a difference between wanting to work in America and thinking you could run shit there. I feel like people overhype what she's said about the States. She's not good around saying things like I could totally be huge there. She's just stated that she would like to try things in the US. I don see what's so over ambitious about that.

they don't exist solely for music. they exist for entertaining imo eg. singing, dancing, acting, being your virtual gf

music is their platform for self promotion and fame, they need at least the slightest bit of talent to draw in fans otherwise they have no excuse to promote themselves.

I honestly think that tiffany at the moment if she had to choose between going the international road or her personal life quitting and living in the us she will choose the later.
I don't think she wants the same thing anymore.

I dunno arti...to me (sa as before btw with the long ass reply), yep snsd are idols like you said and aren't exclusive to the music industry but don't they promote themselves primarily through music anyway?

No, they don't, and I never said that they did, but music is still their primary method of marketing, even if they do dabble in the other things as well.

True. LOL at earlier Kardashi4ns ref tho. Music is just the vehicle to gaining more fans and staying relevant because each new comeback features them showing people "a new side of them".

I just wish they would debut in the USA if they are going to or just say nope we are concentrating in Asia like we've always done then all the dramatic half glass drowning, everyone acting like all knowing messiahs of the US market would end cause really who the fuck knows? No one could've predicted P$Y so why even act like they can predict anything else? Life is unpredictable and big stars have tried and "failed" in the US market and you know what? Big deal, they just go back to their mainstay markets.

It wasn't a direct comparison, more of a "this is how seriously they take musical production" thing than anything. :P

Yeah, same. It's not the be all and end all if they fail the market, so who cares?

LBR, all they really need to succeed is a hit song. Doesn't matter if there's 9 members, doesn't matter if they're asian, all they need is a damn good song and they can make it anywhere.
Correct, a hit song is a hit song anywhere. K-pop has enough English in it for Korean music.
Catchy in your head is all they need. We know they look fantastic; well bettera than PSY.

I know, there are many parallels between them but of course everyone reacts to the comparison because they are viewed as trashy tarts. :P Knee-jerk reactions.

Exactly, it's like really? I don't get the need to spend pages "analyzing" the prophesized failure of SNSD in any market (US included) but that's what some like doing. They remind me of those crazy tin hat conspiracy theories wearing signs of THE END IS NEAR. If it wasn't so damn laugh worthy I would think there's a SNSD doomsday shit stirrer trying hard to beat fans into a froth.
