Stinking Salmon holes

Just had a mate down from Perth for a few days salmon fishing, after losing 3 fish at sandpatch the first arvo, went for a look at salmon holes wednesday morning, pretty busy, but lots of people into fish, with a trail of salmon visible along the shoreline. We got a spot up the end, and over the next 3 hours, hooked over 50 fish, landed 26, and kept 2, all on lures. Was the fishing session of a lifetime, really good fish 5-7 kilos, my mate is in absoulte awe at what can happen when they are on. (as am I!) Most people released their fish which was good to see, a few kept their 4 and chose to do a couple of trips to the car to lug it all out, you would have to be keen. Had crumbed nuggets from one fish, and smoked the other, in the sweet soy marinade which i read about on the old site. Came up a treat.
What was really dissappointing, is the amount of heads and frames down there, the whole bay absoultely stunk, with heads scattered both on the sand and up in the bushes, plus big piles of filleted frames, all rotting away, and that was on top of the normal bait bags and cans of bourbon.
I know that there is a thing about putting heads and guts in the water whilst fishing can put the salmon off, though we chucked out 2 fish heads in and within minutes they were vacuumed up by big rays, and we kept catching fish.
Hate to think what the place will look like after these holidays. We need a big blow and 6m swell to flush the whole place out.
Went for a quick look this morning before he headed back to the smoke, over 30 people elbow to elbow with another 10 or so on the rocks, the odd fish coming in but nothing like the frantic action early in the week.

Mate ive had a few trips over the past 2 weeks, I have seen fish every time at sandpatch, but there are really only 3 beaches down there so easy packed out, may have to get there early in monring. Also no good if swell over 3m, which it looks to be for the next few days.
Salmon holes also almost a cert, but again need to be up with the chooks to get a spot. Had a wander down Nanarup, only encountered 1 salmon that followed a lure, reckon soaking baits in one of the many nice holes there would produce, without the crowds. Saw a nice school at Muttonbird last week, but nothing since. Been odd fish coming into Shelleys too, just have to play the waiting game.
Whatever, just get up early and you should be in with a shot. Ive been berleying up when its quiet with chopped up mulies, usually have fish right on the shore within 15-20 mins so worth the effort if there is nothing around.
Try using a herring fillet or livie if the herring plague your baits, they're not too hard to catch at the mo and last longer than mulies if the herring are pests.
good luck!
