Note: This story sets up the Events depicted in STAR TREK: SERENITY. Also the tale takes in 2158 placing it before the events of the 2-Part Pocket Book STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE Novel: THE ROMULAN WAR. Captain's Log: April 16th 2158. Enterprise is in orbit of Earth in preparation for the newest NX-Class ship to roll out of Space Dock. Starfleet has outfitted it with Andorian and Vulcan technology to better help with the Romulan incursions affecting the various members of the United Federation of Planets, as well as everything else that other NX-Class star ships have. Starfleet have also added a new star drive section - after it was deemed too dangerous to have the original layout and keep it together unless you have Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III as your Chief Engineer looking after your Warp 5 Engine. We are now waiting for the crew to board their ship and set out, though not everyone onboard is happy with the launch ceremony... "Why are we here Captain?" asked the very British Chief Tactical Officer, Lt. Malcolm Reed, the only Starfleet CTO that wants to look for trouble. "We are supposed to be keeping an eye on the recently established Romulan Neutral Zone to make sure they are not causing more trouble than they should!" It was a good question; the crew did not need to be there but Capt. Jonathan Archer received a message from Starfleet Command to return to Earth to witness the launch of the newest NX-Class ship - as a way of giving the crew some R&R in these testing times. "It's Courtesy, Malcolm.” Archer Replied, with his Optimistic Look, as well as the sense of adventure that has always been the crews driving force. “The amount of officers who thought the same with the Enterprise's Launch still went to it anyway because it was a celebratory moment – a ship built for exploration. Now the Serenity NX-07 is built for both exploration and defence. We can afford to take some time off.” “This is an amazing opportunity, Mr Reed,” Dr. Phlox piped in “A New crew on the same borders of discovery where you were Seven Years ago, when you undertook the mission to return Klaang to the Klingon Empire.” he got to the side of the bridge where Malcolm was sitting, who was now sat, arms folded in an effort to express his boredom at sitting on the bridge of the NX-01 doing nothing. “I just don’t like it is all.” Malcolm replied. “Well, you don’t like much of anything do ya?” came the southern brogue of Commander Tucker, the Texan Engineer of the Enterprise. “But I do agree Captain, we haven’t figured out all the Enterprises strengths against all the Romulan technology those pointy-eared sons of a bitches throw at as!” he looked at T’Pol who looked at him with her eyebrow raised. “Sorry. I did not mean you guys!” The Ship’s comm bleeted to show it was ready to accept a message from Space Dock. “Sir.” Ensign Hoshi Sato announced, announcing the message she was getting on her communications earpiece. “We’re getting a communique on the launch video-message!” “Put It Through!” replied Archer, getting into the captain’s chair once again, enjoying the image of seeing another ship leave Space Dock 7-Years to the day that Enterprise went on her first mission. “Let’s see how they introduce the new ship – hopefully they won’t leave it to a pop group to put music to various video images of Enterprise and Columbia in action… that was just terrible!” The Video plays, showing the construction of Serenity and a few test flights and weapons and tactics displays. Then it was followed by an image that would be the NX-07’s Patch: the ship warping to its next destination, the circular background giving the ships name and registry number, with a caption underneath stating ‘Here’s to the Next Generation’. Then it switched to the image of the ship in space – ready for her crew to come on board and start their adventures. “Well that was interesting.” Ensign Mayweather remarked. “Can’t wait to see Enterprise’s decommissioning ceremony” “Captain!” T’Pol announced, looking at some unusual readings on her science console screen. “I am detecting an unusual energy reading.” “Is it Romulan?” asked Archer. “No. But I would like to take more time to work…” before she could finish, there was a flash of light on the main view screen, and took out most of the ship sensors. Archer headed towards T’Pol’s work station “What just Happened?” He asked. “I do not know, Captain. There was nothing showing just before the light appeared… sensors are back online.” The main view screen also came back on but where Serenity had been docked in space dock, it was now empty, save for the shuttle holding her would be crew for inclusion on their maiden voyage. “T’Pol, find out what happened to Serenity!” Archer ordered and left the Bridge. Captain's Log: Supplemental. It has been 3 Hours since Serenity’s disappearance and the crew of our sister ship are as anxious to find out what happened as we are to find out any information we can. It is turning into one of our biggest problems trying to keep the peace between the UFP, who are wondering if our newest ship was taken by the Romulan’s somehow. The door opened to Archers Ready Room and T’Pol stepped through with a computer-pad read-out of the recent scans of Space-Dock. “Find Anything?” Archer asked with Hopeful optimism. “Unfortunately, whatever has happened to the Serenity is a new phenomenon, there is no record from any other species in the alliances many archives from other worlds… this is something we can’t find any reason for it’s occurance – there is not even any background radiation and it rules out Romulan technology” “So, What It Just Vanished?” Archer asked. “Precisely, Captain.” T’Pol replied. “Hmm. Fantastic” Archer said. “7-Years into the NX Program, and we have our very own Mary Celeste mystery…” “Except we did find Temporal Radiation.” “Daniels?” “Unknown!” “OK.” Archer Finally said “but thanks to someone messing around with Time, we have just lost our best hope against the Romulans.” Archer turned and looked at the window and directly at the Space Dock that housed the NX-07, pondering where and when it is now… The Adventure Continues on Avalon Station in STAR TREK: SERENITY’s first Mission: “THE DISSONANT INTERVAL” Featuring the U.S.S.
