...take this with a grain of salt, but if the Reds' were to go for it, Simon Mignolet could have some good competition facing him for the #1 position as Liverpool's keeper down the road....quoting:
NBC ProSoccerTalk: Joe Hart’s Manchester City future in limbo, Liverpool may target the goalkeeper
Quote:

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart had an noteworthy performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and hold his own in City’s Premier League draw vs. Chelsea today. And this summer, the possibility of signing a contract extension may have lingered in the mind of the 27-year-old netminder, considered one of the best shot stoppers in the world.

City has yet to approach the English international about his current deal, which currently has two years remaining, and Hart has watched other stars of the squad, namely David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, come to agreements.

He was far from overreaction when questioned about his situation.

Hart told the Mail Online, “Anything about a new contract is news to me. I’ve heard nothing. I’ve got a year, nearly two years, left on my deal. That is all I am aware of.”

While the Sky Blues haven’t displayed Hart’s importance to the club through fiscal means, speculation from the Metro has detailed that Liverpool could be a likely landing spot for the goalie. With Victor Valdes sought out to supplement the position behind Simon Mignolet, there is possibility that Hart, if signed next summer, will vie for the No.1 slot.

Even though a side’s more well-regarded players usually restructure their contracts around the two-year mark, Hart still has a substantial amount of time left until he actually becomes a free agent. Really, his contentment in Manchester will depend on keeping focus if club management doesn’t involve itself in talks by the end of the year.

Looks like a tactic from Harts agent to get attention from his club. But i would have him over our current number one any day.

You and me both...there's a few more keepers that could fit the ball:
-Petr Cech w/Chelsea
-Tim Howard w/Everton
-W. Szczesny w/Arsenal
..and that's just w/in the Premiership; if I count keepers from MLS, for instance, into the mix:
-E. Kronberg, Sporting KC
-N. Rimando, Real Salt Lake
-B. Hamid, D.C. United

...one thing's for certain, though, Macca: when the January transfer window opens, Liverpool has got to look for a keeper, either to back up Mignolet or to replace him.
