Liverpool start the match on the attack. They are looking to get down the flanks but AFC Wimbledon, playing with two solid banks of four, are looking organised. They could have a lot of defending on their hands this evening.

...as I'm watching the match on Fox Sports 1, I'm of two minds in regards to Steven Gerrard's impending departure from Liverpool...on the one hand, I, for one, will be shedding a few tears when the day arrives and he no longer wears the iconic red. On the other hand, nothing, I suspect, would please me and the other millions and millions of Liverpool fans 'round the world than to see Liverpool's skipper hoist one more trophy before that day arrives...

Another Liverpool attack breaks down as Steven Gerrard fails to get his pass away on the edge of the penalty area. Plenty of possession for the Premier League side in the opening seven minutes but no chances of note - yet. At the other end Sean Rigg has the best opportunity so far but drags his shot wide of goal after breaking clear on the right channel.

Match of the Day's Danny Murphy
Quote:

"It was a great chance for Sean Rigg. He just went too wide and dragged it. He tries to drill it into the bottom far corner. That will give AFC Wimbledon some confidence. The worry for Liverpool is it was a simple straight ball."

A diving header from Liverpool's captain has given the Reds a 1-0 lead and given Gerrard his 181st goal as a Liverpool player....

...from the BBC's Twitter feed:
-Matthew Marrs: Wimbledon vs Liverpool. Barrett vs Lambert. Former Bristol Rovers teammates, different paths, same destination.
-Jake Hardiman: Akinfenwa to head a last minute winner for 2-1 to Wimbledon, you heard it here first!

Match of the Day's Danny Murphy
Quote:

"What did we expect? It was like watching a young Steven Gerrard in the pocket playing the ball out wide and then getting in for a brave header. It was a real quality goal. He's done a lot of talking off the pitch this week - but talking on the pitch is what he does best. This will help settle Liverpool's nerves."

BBC Radio 5 live's Martin Keown
Quote:

"Steven Gerrard is still a wonderful player, there's no doubt about that.
"I don't know whether the MLS move is about a lifestyle change for him. He can't go anywhere without being asked to sign something. He plays with a great deal of emotion and heart and he loves Liverpool. I don't think it's in him to play at a high level for anyone else."

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at AFC Wimbledon
Quote:

"Plenty of noise and optimism from Wimbledon's fans in the early stages but right on cue - certainly as far as Liverpool are concerned - Steven Gerrard calms the nerves with that header.
"Every goal, every contribution, from Gerrard will now be an illustration of what Liverpool will miss when he leaves Anfield at the end of the season."

...no kidding, Mr. MuNulty... sad1
