Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner has spoken of her excitement for the upcoming Women's Super League season and is confident that the Reds can have another successful campaign in 2015.

Having returned to training last week, Reds skipper Bonner cannot wait for the season to begin commenting; “It’s great to be back. Everyone has come back refreshed and raring to go as we look to defend our WSL title. Everyone has returned in good shape and it will now be about increasing our fitness levels as well as getting some much needed game time out on the pitch.

Twenty three year old Bonner also spoke about agreeing a new contract extension with Matt Beard’s side adding; “It’s brilliant to have agreed a new deal to stay with the Club. I am really excited for the new season and we have the UEFA Women’s Champions League to look forward to.

“Last season against Linkoping was a massive learning curve as they were a top quality side. This season hopefully we are seeded and can progress further in the competition.”

Bonner also spoke of the importance of keeping the majority of last season’s WSL title winning team together adding; “It is crucial that we have kept the core of our team last season and it is up to these players to help the new players to settle in at Liverpool. Keeping the likes of Nici (Nicole Rolser) and Tash (Natasha Dowie) was really important. I’m sure the WSL will be the most competitive season ever and we need to make sure we are fully prepared for when it begins in March.”
