Liverpool Ladies: Bonner Expects Tough Opening Game

Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner believes that the Reds will face a tough opening game against last season's FAWSL2 champions Sunderland Ladies and insists that Matt Beard's side must be fully prepared to face the Lady Black Cats.

Reds skipper Bonner said: “I believe this season will again prove to be the most competitive WSL season ever as the competition continues to improve year after year. It would be a fantastic achievement if we were to lift the trophy for a third successive season and we have total confidence in our ability as a team to do this, although we are under no illusions as to how difficult a task that will be.

“The first game of the season against Sunderland will no doubt be a really tough opening game for us. They are a team with some really exciting young players coming through the ranks with the likes of Beth Mead and Keira Ramshaw and they will definitely provide us with a tough test as we begin our title defence.”
