UEFA Europa League Round of 32 - 26 Feb. 2015, 18:00 GMT (1pm US EST) at Ataturk Stadium
Quote:

Liverpool contest the second leg of their Europa League last 32 tie with Besiktas in Istanbul on Thursday. Mario Balotelli's late penalty in last week's first meeting means the Reds take a 1-0 advantage to Turkey. The game will be played at the Ataturk Stadium, the scene of Liverpool's 2005 Champions League final triumph over AC Milan.

Liverpool's team to face Besiktas has been announced and it's an attacking one.
Mignolet, Toure, Skrtel, Lovren; Ibe, Allen, Can, Moreno; Sterling, Sturridge; Balotelli.
Kick-off at 18:00 GMT, with live text commentary on the BBC Sport website. Liverpool lead 1-0 from the first leg.

GK: Mignolet
DF: Toure, Skrtel, Lovren
MF: Ibe, Allen, Can, Moreno, Sterling
F: Sturridge, Balotelli
...this should be interesting, assuming Liverpool continues w/a 3-man defensive backline...

Istanbul memories
Besiktas v Liverpool (18:00 GMT)

I am contractually obliged to recall that night in Istanbul 10 years ago.
Liverpool return this evening to the scene of their incredible Champions League triumph in 2005, when they came from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan. If tonight's game is 8% as exciting or memorable we'll do well.

Only good thing about that game was the 6 minutes we scored 3 goals and Andriy Shevchenko missing the final penalty the rest was horrible and nerve racking whistle1 bou1

Who are Liverpool's teenagers?
Posted Image
Quote:

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers named five teenagers in the squad tonight as he prepares to take on Besiktas in the midst of an injury crisis. Most of you will be familiar with Jordon Ibe - who is rapidly establishing himself as a first-team regular at Anfield - but what of the lesser-known names who have made the trip to Turkey?

-Jordan Williams: Welsh youngster Williams can operate in central midfield or central defence. The 19-year-old came through the Liverpool academy and made his first-team debut for the Reds in the League Cup win over Middlesbrough in September, scoring in the epic penalty shoot-out. He is a fluent Welsh speaker and he's on the bench tonight.
-Jerome Sinclair: 18-year-old Sinclair (pictured) plays as a striker. He was snapped up from the West Brom academy aged 14. He made his first-team debut aged 16 in a 2012 League Cup tie against West Brom, becoming Liverpool's youngest ever player (a record he still holds).

-Cameron Brannagan: 18-year-old midfielder Brannagan (pictured) can play just behind the striker or on either wing. He is one of the most highly-rated prospects in the club's academy - and has even been linked with a move to Barcelona. He's on the bench tonight.
-Ryan Fulton: Goalkeeper Fulton, 18, hails from Burnley but plays under-21 international football for Scotland. He rivals Danny Ward for the number 1 jersey in the club's under-21 side. Fulton travelled but is not in the final squad.

Ironically, today's Europa League schedule has 2 matches that started at 12pm....
-Anderlecht 1, Dinamo Moscow 0 (Anderlecht would advance on aggregate)
-Zenit St. Pete 1, PSV Eindhoven 0 (ZSP would advance on aggregate)
...and yes, I'll be keeping a few hairs open as these matches go on.... laugh1 laugh1

Besiktas v Liverpool (18:00 GMT)
Quote:

Besiktas coach Slaven Bilic, speaking to ITV4: "A 1-0 scoreline is a good result for Liverpool but it gives us hope and a chance. We will have to be as compact and disciplined as we were at Anfield, but with the ball we will have to be a little bit more creative. We have to use the big amount of space they give you sometimes because they attack with numbers.

"Demba Ba is not 100% fit but he wasn't in Liverpool. But if he wasn't fit, he wouldn't play tonight. He's fit, he's on fire and we need him big time to beat Liverpool tonight. We have great supporters. The stadium is not in the centre of town so it's not usually full, but the fans are going to be or 12th player."

It's a cracking atmosphere in Istanbul, plenty of flags flying and a whole world of noise. An early Liverpool goal could kill it down.
