SB Nation - The Liverpool Offside: Allen Confirms New Liverpool Deal In The Works

--With new deals for Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling likely delayed until after the season is over, there's been an air of uncertainty when it comes to Liverpool's ability to finalize contract extensions for their most important squad members. The anxiety isn't entirely justified, of course, as this season alone they've already managed to tie down Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge, and in the recent past have been able to complete deals both in and out of the regular season.

And while it isn't exactly clear when the aforementioned negotiations will wrap up, there appears to be hope that talks regarding Joe Allen's future will be more straightforward. The 24-year-old announced as much on Saturdayafter a week of speculation that discussions had begun: "We're at the early stages at the moment but the signs are good. From my point of view I'm looking to commit my future here and hopefully I can be here for years to come. For me it's just a case of playing regularly and putting in consistent performances. I've always been confident that I'll able to be successful here."

As was discussed yesterday, one of the main points of contention regarding a new deal is whether or not the Welsh midfielder is able to keep himself fit enough to play consistently. When he is available and getting a regular run of appearances, he's been able to put in those consistent performances, but when he's in and out, much like anyone else, he's struggled to have the type of influence he's managed over the past month. Hopefully a new contract gives way to a healthier future, and one that sees him continue to develop as part of a talented young Liverpool squad.
