Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge has undergone successful surgery on a nagging hip injury.

The 25-year-old striker took to his personal social media accounts today to announce that he had an operation performed on his hip.

Sturridge had recently flown to Boston to visit Red Sox team doctors to see if surgery was necessary, but there was no announcement from the player or the club that a decision was reached. The Liverpool Echo is reporting that the surgery was performed in New York.

Just want to let the world know I've had a successful operation on my hip today and I want to thank God for allowing that to be possible. Onwards and upwards from here. Thanks for the support. Daniel x - (Daniel Sturridge, 5 May 2015)

Sturridge also posted on his Twitter account saying “Thank you Jesus. Hip operation was successful. Road to recovery starts today!!”

In a season filled with injuries, Sturridge has missed time with calf, thigh, and hip problems. He has only made 12 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season, six of those coming off the bench. After scoring 21 league goals last season and only five this year, Liverpool needs Sturridge to recover, stay healthy, and regain his form.
