Carroll's ravenous appetite...
--Earlier today former Liverpool turned West Ham striker Andy Carroll uploaded an Instagram video of him flipping pancakes. A short while later and he's cooking again, this time a barbecue. He is on a post-season diet already it seems.

"There is no way young Zouma can carry on. He is lightning fast and Rickie Lambert just ran away from him, so he definitely can't carry on. His youth is telling him to carry on but there's no point taking a chance now, you can do some serious damage."

....approaching 40 minutes, Chelsea lead 1-0 in what seems to be a somewhat lackluster game thus far...

Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge have eight goals between them in the league. John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill share 10. That's a stat which has not escaped former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamman on Twitter.

...meanwhile, down in the League One (third-tier) Playoffs, a bit of disturbing news; from the BBC match feed....

'I was punched, kicked and spat on'
--Some news reaching us from the aftermath of the lunchtime League One play-off game between Preston and Chesterfield, which Preston won 3-0 and 4-0 on aggregate.

Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt has said he was "punched, kicked and spat on several times" by rival fans who entered the pitch after the match. Evatt, who used to play for Blackpool, Preston's Lancashire rivals, said: "To be attacked on a football pitch and fear for your safety is an absolute disgrace."

Chesterfield said Evatt had given a statement to police "following an alleged assault as he left the pitch, surrounded by fans".

...and there's the halftime whistle! A captain's duel thus far as goals from John Terry and Steven Gerrard leave things honors even thus far...your halftime score from Stamford Bridge: Chelsea 1, Liverpool 1.

...from the Gerrard header....
Quote:

Former Scotland international Pat Nevin
BBC Radio 5 live at Stamford Bridge
--"You almost can't write the script. You think of the two gaols, good old fashioned headers. I wonder if it was Mikel who was supposed to be marking Gerrard, the technique is perfect. Heads it down and into the corner. When they get the free-kick there is a lot of work to be done and the block on Thibaut Courtois is the reason that goal is scored."
