Liverpool F.C. vs. Crystal Palace F.C.
Premier League, 10 May 2015 - 17:30 GMT (12:30pm US EDT) at Anfield

Steven Gerrard will bid farewell to Anfield in Liverpool's final home game of the season against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

On what's sure to be an emotional occasion, the captain will wave goodbye to supporters ahead of his summer transfer to LA Galaxy.

Earlier this season, Liverpool lost 3-1 in the Barclays Premier League meeting with Palace at Selhurst Park, though they did prevail 2-1 in an FA Cup tie at the same venue in February. In last season's corresponding fixture, the Reds ran out 3-1 victors.

Liverpool FC: Gerrard Reflects On His 17 Years As A Red

--Steven Gerrard held a farewell press conference at Melwood on Thursday ahead of his final Anfield match this weekend. Here's what the skipper had to say as he reflected on 17 glorious years with the Reds.

Steven, how are you feeling about saying goodbye to Anfield?
I'm good, I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to the match and I want to win the game desperately. I want to finish on a high at Anfield in front of our supporters, but there's no getting away from it - come the end of the game, when I get the chance to say goodbye, it will be an emotional time.

You've spoken about your regret at not winning the title during your time here, so how do you look back upon those 17 years?
I look back at it with pride. I am really proud of what I've achieved here. All the trophies I've won here and all the great memories I have. Not winning the Premier League will be a dint in that, but there's nothing I can do about that now. It's a regret I'll go away with, but I have got to look at the bigger picture. Growing up as a boy, dreaming of playing for Liverpool just that one time, to sitting here now with 708 appearances, I've achieved an awful lot more than I thought I would have at the beginning.

In terms of this club progressing further, what state do you feel you're leaving the club in now? What's needed to ensure last season and challenging for the title isn't a one-off?
Every season, this squad and this club tries to add good quality players to it to challenge for the next season and what trophies we can try and win. I think this season we've fallen a bit short, but I still feel there's a fantastic core of players here with huge potential. I am hoping the owners will back Brendan again and bring in that bit of quality that can help us go one step further next year. We've come very close in a couple of cup competitions this year and we've also got close to the top-four positions and that's with losing arguably the best player in the world last year in Luis Suarez and also not having our striker not available for much of the season in Daniel Sturridge. To come so close without those two available, I think we've done okay, but I think next year we can go one better.

In some ways I suppose it'd be nice to finish your Liverpool career at Anfield, but knowing you you're probably thinking about playing in that final game of the season as well. Is that the way it's going to pan out?
You'll have to ask Brendan what his next two team selections are going to be, but I want to play every minute possible, of course I do. He will know that and I think all you people know that. That's what I intend to do. I want to put in a good performance personally at the weekend, try to get a win and say goodbye to everyone at Anfield and all the supporters worldwide. But I still feel I want to be involved against Stoke.

It's been a week dominated by yourself - a lot of interviews, a lot of build-up to the match at the weekend. I don't think this room has ever been as full as it is, either. How does it make you feel all this attention and focus?
I am not really one for attention or focus and I feel a bit sorry for my teammates this week. Obviously, a lot of attention is on me and I am sure it will be at the weekend. When the whistle goes it'll all be about the team and the team trying to get three points. All I can do is apologise if I have taken any attention away from the players. It's never been my intention to grab any glory or attention all the long. I am aware it's all about the team at this club and from day one I have always tried to pull in the right direction for the team. Unfortunately, this weekend it is only normal after 17 years that the attention falls on me. I apologise for that.

Liverpool FC: Media Say Farewell To Steven Gerrard

Author: James Carroll @James_Carroll84
--Members of the media made a special presentation to Steven Gerrard at the conclusion of his farewell press conference at Melwood on Thursday to thank him for his contributions to the industry over the last 17 years.

The Liverpool Echo's sports editor John Thompson delivered a speech to the captain on behalf of the press in recognition of the generosity of his time in dealing with local, national and international media.

Thompson thanked Gerrard for never shying away from an interview and his honesty, admitting: "Two minutes with Steven Gerrard is worth far more for sports writers, broadcasters and editors than 15 minutes with so many other lads around the land who play the game."

The 34-year-old was then presented with a special red velvet cake and a selection of cupcakes featuring photos of iconic moments throughout his career, which were created by Little Laura's Bakery and organised by the club the recognise the importance of the occasion.

Melwood's press room was packed out for Gerrard's media briefing, with journalists from all around the world in attendance.

Liverpool Ladies: Williams Pays Tribute To Departing Reds Skipper

Quote:

Liverpool Ladies midfielder Fara Williams has called on all Reds to give Steven Gerrard the Anfield send-off he deserves tomorrow against Crystal Palace.

England’s most capped player with 139 appearances for the women’s team, Williams has always cited the Liverpool captain as a big influence on her own career.

Speaking to the official matchday programme, Williams said: “I don’t think you will ever see his like again.

“A lot of players chase money but he has shown what this football club and this city means to him by demonstrating incredible loyalty.

“He has been a great professional and a great role model and will leave people with so many memories, not just Liverpool fans but football fans. Great tackles, great passes, great goals.”

Fara feels he has been as much of an inspiration to team-mates as supporters.

“He has single-handedly made the team perform in games and win matches that you probably doubted them winning. Over a 17-year period his performances are over and above what anyone could ask for.

"You can see how he lifts the team whenhe’s on the pitch, the other players look up to him and have probably relied on him a bit too.

“Some people talk about him never winning the league but he’s done everything else. He dragged the team back into the Champions League final in 2005 with that header and then won the penalty.

"Then there was that incredible strike against Olympiacos to get them through the group stage that season. It was inspirational.

“I am a Chelsea fan but was lucky enough to be at the 2006 FA Cup final against West Ham and again his goal was unbelievable.

“He deserves all the plaudits he gets today and I hope the fans sing his name throughout thewhole game because it’s nothing more than he deserves.”

SB Nation - The Liverpool Offside: Rodgers Salutes Gerrard - "I'll Miss Him"

Posted Image
Quote:

By CStars
@chuckdozie

--Liverpool are coming to the end of Brendan Rodgers' third season at the club, and Steven Gerrard has been an important figure during that time. From afar, it appears that Rodgers has enjoyed managing Gerrard and finding a way for the captain to continue thriving as he got older. Last season, Rodgers spoke of prolonging Gerrard's career as the club's version of storied regista Andrea Pirlo but is preparing to say goodbye like the rest of us.

"I'll miss him," Rodgers admitted, who will almost certainly be Steven Gerrard's last Liverpool manager. "If you look from when I came in here, he played 42 games for me in the first season, 39 last year and he's played 38 this season. That record alone shows the value and importance I place on him as a footballer. I'll miss him as a man because we have a strong relationship. We both want the club to succeed. Over the course of time he has shown he's one of the few genuinely world class players around.

"To have worked with someone of that level every single day since I've been here and got to know the man, I'd always admired him from the outside as a footballer, but knowing him as the person I do, he will be a miss because our relationship is strong, we communicate well and he's someone I have a big admiration and respect for. Not having him here, will leave a huge hole. He's irreplaceable in terms of what he is but you have to keep moving forward as a club and as a team."

Rodgers has spoken at length on the qualities he admires in a player he has worked closely with over the past three years. It should be remembered that this is the longest time Rodgers has been at a club in his short managerial career, and it wouldn't be hasty to suggest that he has formed one of his closest relationships with Liverpool's captain. There's only one Joe Allen of course, but this could explain why Rodgers found it so difficult to manage Gerrard's minutes. As Rodgers said, Gerrard has played an awful lot under the Antrim man and has been considered first-choice for the overwhelming majority of Rodgers' tenure. This is a player, according to Rodgers, whose influence transcends the club.

"I've asked my staff to describe Steven in one word and the word I would use is 'Liverpool'," Rodgers said after successfully conducting staff surveys. "Not just Liverpool as a football club but Liverpool as a city. This is a guy who is very much about looking after his people. He loves his city. He's had a number of opportunities to move from here to prestigious clubs but Liverpool is his home. This is his place, these are the people he loves, he grew up around the corner and went on to play for the club he supported.

"What he's given to this city, politicians haven't given to this city. The local hospitals, the charities, all the work he does, it's unheard of really. If I was describing Steven I'd say 'Liverpool'. He's a wonderful symbol for the people here. And an incredible icon of the club."

--"All about one man at Anfield today and the final paragraph of Liverpool's captain Steven Gerrard's farewell programme notes says it all: "Obviously only 45,000 people can be inside the ground today but I know there are millions around the world and it's been an absolute privilege to play for every one of them. You'll Never Walk Alone."
