Six minutes remaining. Liverpool players cannot wait for the whistle to go. This has been a truly awful performance.

You can't make it up. Peter Crouch has only been on the pitch a few moments and the former Liverpool man adds salt to his old club's wounds as he adds a sixth goal with a perfectly placed header.

This is no way for Steven Gerrard to bow out. His team-mates should be hanging their heads in disgrace.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, BBC Final Score"
Quote:

There are defining results, if you are going lose games and lose them in this matter - then no matter how far behind someone you are, things could change. If you look at it, Brendan Rodgers has not been able to convince Gerrard to stay, Sterling is obviously not happy and it has been nowhere near as good as last year.

There will be a major board meeting after this match, maybe a new manager will be able to convince Sterling to state.

...and there is the final whistle of the season, and a truly horrid performance by Liverpool sees them end the year on a low note. Your final score from the Britannia Stadium: Stoke City 6, Liverpool 1.

Not sure if the players want Rodgers sacked or if things have just become so bad with this Sterling negativity going on and also the media just looking at Gerrard and giving him all the attention being his last season.

FWIW, I think its' the second part there; I think the whole Sterling Affair has so toxified the locker room that I'll be shocked if he's still around come next season...I also wouldn't be shocked if Liverpool were to hold Sterling to his contract and virtually sat him for 2 years as an object lesson of sorts. Granted, it'd mean letting him go in 2 years on a free, but still...

'We were very, very poor'
Stoke 6-1 Liverpool
--Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "We made too many mistakes defensively and individually. We were beaten too easily and were not competitive enough. We were very, very poor in that first half. It was always going to be a big job in the summer and today's result would certainly ratify that.

"We understand the job ahead and we will be much better than today going forward. We have got to be much better than we have been for the last six or eight weeks. We will work tirelessly to look to put on a better show next season."

Came across this over on the Premier League's live feed:
Quote:

GOAL Stoke 6-1 Liverpool (CROUCH, 86 mins)
A landmark goal at The Britannia - Peter Crouch has just scored Stoke’s sixth of the game, and his 47th headed goal in the Barclays Premier League. That means he’s scored more headed goals in the top flight than anyone else. And against his former club too.

...granted, it royally sucked that he scored, but still, 47 headed goals as a Premier League player?

Goodbye Steven Gerrard
Stoke 6-1 Liverpool

"I am sure Steven wasn't anticipating the manner of that being his last performance, but credit to him he was trying to drive his team on and it was great he got that reception from our supporters when he scored," said Stoke boss Mark Hughes.

"It is only right and proper we recognise the impact he has had in English football and at his club as well. To a man everyone applauded that goal. I wish him well, he has been a credit to his country and his club as well."

...farewell, Talisman....farewell. cry1 cry1

Liverpool finished off their season in sixth place after an embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, with a final goal from Steven Gerrard proving little more than a consolation, the inquest begins here.
