Sky Sports: Vardy Set To Sign New Deal With Leicester City

Posted Image
Quote:

Jamie Vardy is close to agreeing a new three-and-a-half year contract with Leicester City which could see him double his existing wages, Sky sources understand.

Vardy, who has scored 16 goals in 27 appearances for the Foxes this season, is currently on a £40,000-per-week deal which runs until the summer of 2018.

His form had led to transfer interest from several clubs but manager Claudio Ranieri was consistently firm in his view that the England international would not be sold and, with the January window now closed, Leicester have moved quickly to improve Vardy's contract.

With maximum bonuses from appearances, goals, England caps and any potential European qualification, it is believed the Sheffield-born striker could earn as much as £80,000-per-week with the new deal.

There has been no official comment from Leicester, but it is understood both parties hope the deal can be finalised and signed by the end of the week.

In November, Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's record by scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games, and the striker featured in England's final two Euro 2016 qualification matches against Estonia and Lithuania in October.

NBC Sports: Manchester United To Name Stand For Football Legend Charlton

Posted Image
Quote:

Manchester United is doing some special for “the most iconic figure in English football history”. The South Stand at Old Trafford will be unveiled as the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand at the April 2 match against Everton.

Charlton, 78, is revered for his on-field heroics between Manchester United and England. He finished his career for Preston North End and Waterford United. He made more than 600 appearances for United, and has 106 England caps.

From ManUtd.com: “This is a great honour and I am very proud – for myself and my family – that the club has chosen to name the South Stand after me. Manchester United has been such an important part of my life and I have so many wonderful memories of this Theatre of Dreams. As a player, I remember the goals and the marvellous players I played with. As a director, I have seen some outstanding matches and players. It is a special place indeed.

“I would like to thank everyone connected with Manchester United. So many people work so hard to keep us at the top; their effort should never be forgotten. But most of all, I would like to thank Norma, my wonderful wife, and my family for the support and encouragement they have always provided. This is for them.”

The deserved honor is fittingly the oldest stand at Old Trafford. Congrats to Charlton on a crowning achievement in his Red Devils career.

NBC Sports: Report - Antonio Conte To Become New Chelsea Manager

Posted Image
Quote:

Antonio Conte will be the next manager of Chelsea, according to a Gazzetta dello Sport report.

Currently the manager of the Italian national team, the 46-year-old is expected to take charge of the Premier League giant at the conclusion of this summer’s European Championship. The agreement between the two sides is said to only need Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s final approval before being finalized and formally announced.

Before taking the Italian job, Conte spent three seasons in charge of Serie A side Juventus where he would lead the La Vecchia Signora (the Old Lady) back to domestic and European prominence, including three-straight Serie A titles from 2012-2014 (Juve have since gone on to win another in 2015 and currently lead the race for the 2016 title).

Should Conte be named the new Chelsea boss, he will have beaten fellow reported candidates Diego Simeone and Massimiliano Allegri to the job.

As is the case with any new manager at a club the size (and riches) of Chelsea, there will be a fair bit of turnover in the summer transfer window, with Conte eager to build his own Chelsea. The first name sure to be on that list? Juve superstar Paul Pogba.

BBC Sport: FA Investigating Coin-Throwing Incidences

Posted Image
Quote:

The Football Association is investigating alleged coin-throwing incidents at Stoke and QPR on Saturday. An object was allegedly thrown at Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland during his side's 2-1 victory over Aston Villa.

QPR players were apparently targeted as they celebrated a goal in front of away fans in their 2-0 win over Birmingham in the Championship.

The FA is already looking into an incident in which West Brom's Chris Brunt was struck by a coin at Reading.

Police have made an arrest after the midfielder was hit on the face by the coin, thrown from a section housing West Brom fans, after he went to give his shirt to a supporter at the end of the Baggies' 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round defeat.

QPR have begun their own investigation into the incident on Saturday, while Birmingham have promised stern action against anyone found responsible.

A QPR statement said: "A coin from the School End stand, in which the visiting supporters were situated, was thrown towards the Rangers players as the Rs celebrated their second goal in our Sky Bet Championship fixture at Loftus Road.

"The club will continue to review video footage and liaise with the Metropolitan and West Midlands police."

A Birmingham spokesman said: "If anybody is found to have thrown a coin, we will take the strongest possible action. As a club, we utterly condemn that sort of behaviour.

"We will be liaising with the relevant bodies, including West Midlands Police, to investigate such allegations."
