NBC Sports: Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton - Eagles Draw Against 10-Man Toffees Side

Posted Image
Quote:

Joel Robles and the Everton defense held firm despite playing a man down for 38 minutes, as the Toffees took a point from Selhurst Park in a 0-0 draw between the two FA Cup semifinalists. Palace remains in 16th place, now with 38 points, while Everton pulls into 12th with 40.

A Ross Barkley giveaway saw Palace with a lightning quick response, but Dwight Gayle sliding attempt off a Wilfried Zaha through ball went wide of the goal.

Everton had a great chance off a side-to-side cross from Leighton Baines that Seamus Coleman failed to put on target.

While the Toffees had most of the possession and danger for about 15-20 minutes, it was Gayle who’s dangerous chance missed the frame again. Still 0-0.

The second half saw both sides looking lively, and Ross Barkley crushed a longer shot off the crossbar four minutes into the frame.

But the game changed in the 52nd minute with McCarthy’s second yellow card. His obstruction of Yannick Bolasie left little choice for anything but a second yellow, and Everton faced 40 minutes down a man.

--83 - McCarthy's red is Everton's 83rd in the Premier League, two more than any other side has. Mist. (OptaJoe, 13 April 2016)

Yet the Toffees threatened more than the Eagles, at least right away. Palace had decent chances from Mile Jedinak and Yannick Bolasie, but Joel Robles kept the sheet clean.

Jason Puncheon and Emmanuel Adebayor were threats for Palace, but the Eagles simply haven’t scored enough under manager Alan Pardew.

BBC Sport: Relegation Fight Going Down To The Wire

After Newcastle's win over Swansea followed Sunderland's victory at Norwich on Saturday, it is tighter than ever in the Premier League relegation battle.

Sunderland are one point behind Norwich in 17th with a game in hand and Black Cats manager Sam Allardyce says his side "cannot afford to fail any more" with five matches to play.

Newcastle are two points further back after responding to boss Rafael Benitez's demands for "passion on the pitch" with a 3-0 victory.

Both are chasing a Canaries side who can no longer be concerned about the style and must focus purely on results, according to manager Alex Neil.

After another tense tussle at the Premier League's trapdoor, this is how the men in charge saw their side's predicament.

Sunderland are like cockroaches, they look like certainties to go down every season but will miraculously survive every season. Don't bet on them going down.

BBC Sport: Leicester's Vardy Faces Additional FA Charge

Posted Image
Quote:

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy faces an extended ban during the Premier League title run-in after being charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

Vardy, 29, remonstrated with referee Jon Moss after he was shown a red card in Sunday's 2-2 draw with West Ham. The FA has also charged Leicester with failing to control their players after West Ham won an 83rd-minute penalty.

Vardy and Leicester have until 18:00 BST on Thursday to respond.

Vardy, the Premier League's joint leading scorer with 22 goals this season, was shown a second yellow card early in the second half for diving.

He appeared to confront Moss - who was criticised for his performance by Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer - before leaving the field.

The England international receives an automatic one-match ban for his dismissal, but that looks likely to be increased following the FA charge.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa was given an additional one-match ban and was fined £20,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct last month.

The 27-year-old was punished for his reaction to his sending-off against Everton in an FA Cup tie on 12 March.

Arsenal defender Gabriel was also banned for one match, and given a £10,000 fine, after admitting the same charge in September.

Premier League leaders Leicester need eight points from their final four matches to guarantee the title. The Foxes' final four matches are against Swansea (home), Manchester United (away), Everton (home) and Chelsea (away).

BBC Sport: Spurs Tear Apart Stoke City 4-0, Tighten Gap To Leicester City
Quote:

Tottenham produced an outstanding display to thrash Stoke and move five points behind leaders Leicester with four games of the season remaining.

Harry Kane's sublime curling finish, his 23rd Premier League goal of the season, set them on their way before Christian Eriksen hit the crossbar.

Dele Alli doubled the lead before he hit a post when it was easier to score.

Kane rolled in the third before Alli's right-foot volley made it 4-0 to wrap up Spurs' ninth away win of the season.

The result lifted Mauricio Pochettino's side to 68 points from 34 matches, with Leicester on 73 from the same number of games.

BBC Sport: Newcastle United, Manchester City Share The Points 1-1
Quote:

Newcastle recovered from Sergio Aguero's controversial goal to earn a valuable draw with Manchester City.

Aguero was offside when he headed in Aleksandar Kolarov's free-kick. Vurnon Anita equalised with a low curling shot before Magpies keeper Karl Darlow excellently saved Jesus Navas and Kevin de Bruyne strikes.

City keeper Joe Hart saved from Georginio Wijnaldum late on to ensure Newcastle remain in the bottom three, just behind Sunderland and Norwich.

The England keeper's block denied the home side a winner which would have lifted them out of the relegation places.

Newcastle are now one point and a place behind Sunderland and two adrift of the Canaries, who lie just outside the drop zone.

NBC Sports: Flores On Watford Future - "I Need To Feel Happy"

Posted Image
Quote:

On the surface, it sounds crazy: Why trade a manager who led a first-year Premier League club to relatively quick safety in England’s top flight and a FA Cup semifinal?

But Watford is not any club when it comes to their views on managers, having parted ways with Slavisa Jokanovic after the Serbian manager led them to promotion. Oh, and when hired Jokanovic was the Hornets fourth coach in five weeks.

So current manager Quique Sanchez Flores isn’t safe despite the Hornets’ 12th place status. That probably has a lot to do with Watford’s four points since the start of March, a tough schedule run that included Leicester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham.

So, could he be gone this summer? Flores has a break clause after this season, and Watford may not have a choice even if they want to keep the Spaniard around.

From Sky Sports: Asked if he wanted to stay, Flores said: “This is not the question for me now.

“I know the kind of people I want to work with. That’s the only thing I can say. In the last four or five years I work from my feelings. I work around people I feel completely protected with.

“These are my feelings. When we finish the season I will check what the conditions are but I need to feel happy.”

Who needs who the most? Flores’ season has been impressive even with the late struggles, but Watford’s managerial merry-go-round happened before the club advanced into the Premier League and they’ve survived despite making a change in the summer. Still, we’d do our best to keep Flores at Vicarage Road.

NBC Sports: Tottenham's Alli Suspended, Season Over
Quote:

Dele Alli has kicked his last ball in his debut Premier League season. Alli, 20, has been handed a three-game ban by the English Football Association after he was charged with violent conduct following a punch on West Bromwich Albion’s Claudio Yacob (watch the video, above) during Spurs’ 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Monday.

Due to the incident in question not being spotted by referee Mike Jones or the rest of his officiating crew at the time, plus Jones didn’t include any mention of it in his match report, the FA have used video footage to retrospectively charge and ban Alli.

In a statement released by the FA on Thursday, they revealed that Alli contested the penalty of a three-game ban but that was rejected and he will not play again this season in the PL.

Dele Alli will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he committed an act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

The player accepted The FA’s charge but contested that the automatic penalty of a three-match suspension would be ‘clearly excessive’.

This claim, however, was rejected following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today [Thursday 28 April 2016].

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in a 26th minute incident with West Bromwich Albion’s Claudio Yacob during their game on Monday [25 April 2016].

The mercurial talent has scored 10 goals in his debut PL season and has risen to prominence with Spurs second in the table and seven points behind leaders Leicester City heading into the final three games of the season.

It is a big blow for Mauricio Pochettino‘s team that Alli will be missing for their final games as they look to keep their faint title hopes alive by winning all of their games and hoping Leicester slip up. His link up with Harry Kane this season has been telepathic and the duo have gone on to star for England together and Alli is almost certain of a starting spot at the 2016 European Championships in France this summer.

That said, it is hoped the former MK Dons star learns from this latest act of indiscretion. In the past he has been scolded by Pochettino about his behavior during a Europa League tie against Fiorentina earlier this season. He seems to play on the edge and with his rise to dominance this season, opposition midfielders such as Yacob have targeted him. On various occasions Alli has nearly seen the red midst descend.

It is good for Alli to have that feisty streak in him but it must be controlled. He is only young and, hopefully, he will learn from this ban.
