Pretty sure if it was a Liverpool player who did that, the ban would be much longer and carry over to the next season. But then he is England's golden boy and plays for a London-based club so...

The Everton player who ended Origi's season should be banned longer imo. It was intended to injure an opposing player and he celebrated after that. But then we know season-ending tackles are less serious than a bite. Yeah, FA judgement at its best.

Forget the fact, the absolute fact, that the Premier League winners' enclosure is a closed shop with entry only for the very few and the very privileged.

Forget that your team will never, ever win the league.

BBC Sport: Alan Pardew - Sunderland Manager's Comments Were "Prehistoric"
Quote:

Alan Pardew has defended Crystal Palace from accusations by Sam Allardyce that the Eagles had been "on the pop" in the lead-up to the match against Newcastle.

The Sunderland boss said before Saturday's fixture that Palace would not be "mentally ready" for the game because they had been celebrating last week's FA Cup semi-final win.

"They're prehistoric comments," he said after the 1-0 loss to the Magpies. "Three or four of my players don't drink. Perhaps he meant Coca-Cola."

Newcastle's win coupled with Sunderland's 1-1 draw at Stoke and Norwich's 1-0 loss at Arsenal meant the Magpies moved out of the relegation zone - one point above the Black Cats and two clear of the Canaries.

Former Newcastle manager Pardew did not speak to the written press after the match, choosing instead to make his comments to radio journalists, and giving television interviews.

Palace assistant Keith Millen also responded to Allardyce's comments. "We made it a really tough game for Newcastle, who are fighting for their lives," he said. "Sam can say what he likes about us, but we know we are very professional in what we do."

It is not the first time Allardyce has been described as belonging to another era. In January 2014, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said his counterpart's West Ham side played "19th Century football".

NBC Sports: Pochettino Happy To Stay At Spurs, Ready To Compete In Transfer Market

Posted Image
Quote:

Mauricio Pochettino isn’t going anywhere (for one more season, at least) and will remain Tottenham Hotspur manager upon verbally agreeing a two-year contract extension, the 44-year-old Argentine announced earlier this week.

[ FOLLOW: All of PST’s PL coverage ]

According to Pochettino, the extension, which will keep him at White Hart Lane (and the club’s new stadium, set to open at the start of the 2018-19 season), is to serve as a proclamation of intent by the north London club. No longer (for a season, at least) will Spurs be forced to sell their best players, because UEFA Champions League football is coming back to the Lane next season.

Furthermore, Pochettino believes his successes and reputation as a world-class developer of young talent will see the club compete in the upper echelons of the transfer market this summer, if he can find an area to improve — quotes from Ham & High:

“I think it is important for the players and the potential players that will come that they don’t hear rumors about whether Pochettino will be here or not.

“We are ready to compete in the market and to try to add the players that can help us in the future — not that we need much because we have a good squad already.

“Of course we are responsible to show we believe in the club, and then we show we want to keep all the big, important players. They are important to our future.”

Asked what assurances he sought from Levy before agreeing his new contract, Pochettino said: “I don’t need assurances, I didn’t ask for anything.

“In the moment that the president wanted to extend my contract he showed his ambition. The players are very happy here. I want to be involved in the future of the club.

“I had a big respect for this club when Tottenham offered me the job, when I came from Southampton, and I feel the responsibility to stay here and try to help the club in this period – a very important period. To arrive to the new stadium with a very good team but to be competitive is a very good challenge in the next few seasons.

The attraction of Champions League football, coupled with Pochettino’s magnificent development of Spurs’ young English contingent — Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker, to name a few — will have plenty of current and future stars lining up to sign for Spurs this summer. Now that the club have their main man locked up, they’ll now begin to have their choice in the transfer market.

Leicester have won the league. Let's see if they have what it takes to be playing the elites of Europe and cope with midweek fixtures. Plus, their current players are punching above their weights and some like Kante, Mahrez and Vardy are bound to attract interest from other clubs. Going to be an interesting next season for them.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens; for all the success Leicester have had this year, the true test will be next year when everyone will want a piece of the Foxes' collective scalp in 2016-2017; if they can hold onto the core of the starting XI and build around them, I honestly don't see how they can't continue on.

OTOH, with great success comes great opportunity as they now will face mid-week Champions League matches, which means (going back to the previous point above) they're going to have to look for players w/European experience and bring them in, maybe as squad players, maybe as occasional starters, etc., but the true test for them is whether they can balance European nights with English weekends...

BBC Sport: Leicester City Crowned Premier League Champions
Quote:

Leicester City have won the Premier League title in one of the greatest sporting stories of all time. Tottenham's 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Monday confirmed a stunning achievement for Claudio Ranieri's side.

Leicester started the campaign as 5,000-1 outsiders for the title after almost being relegated last season. But they have lost just three league games in what has been described as a "fairytale" and the "most unlikely triumph in the history of team sport".

Closest challengers Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and last year's champions Chelsea, have all failed to match the Foxes' consistency across the season.

Former Leicester, Everton and England striker Gary Lineker described his hometown team's achievement as "the biggest sporting shock of my lifetime".

The Match of the Day presenter had suggested the Leicester players were on the "edge of sporting immortality" last month.

He told BBC Sport: "I can't think of anything that surpasses it in sporting history. It is difficult to put over in words. I got emotional. It was hard to breathe. I was a season ticket holder from the age of seven. This is actually impossible."

BBC Sport: Fellaini & Huth Given Three-Match Bans For Pitch Fracas

Posted Image
Quote:

Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini and Leicester's Robert Huth have been banned for three games for their clash in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Huth pulled the Belgium midfielder's hair, who in turn elbowed the German.

Fellaini, 28, misses United's remaining three league games of the season but is available for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley on 21 May.

Huth, 29, will miss the Premier League champions' final two games and their first league fixture of next season.

The Germany defender will be available to play in the season-opening Community Shield match.

Both players accepted the charge, but Huth argued a three-game ban would be "clearly excessive". The FA's independent regulatory commission disagreed.

The incident was not seen by match officials but was caught on video, with a panel of three former elite referees deciding on the punishment.

Defending the Belgium international, United manager Louis van Gaal said: "It's not in the books that someone has to grab by the hair and then pull it behind - only in sex masochism."

At his news conference on Thursday, he added: "When the FA give Huth a suspension of three matches, then they admit it was a penalty.

"For us it is very disappointing that the referee was not seeing the fact. I think and still believe that Fellaini makes a reaction like a human being but he has to control himself better, that is true. When you grab somebody in his hair, always this situation shall exist."

But Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri said in his news conference on Thursday: "The reaction was worse than the provocation".

Ranieri and his players will be presented with the Premier League trophy on Saturday at their home game with Everton (17:30 BST), with Huth and midfielder Danny Drinkwater both suspended.

NBC Sports: West Ham Close Out Boleyn Ground With Win Over Manchester United

Posted Image
[/i]
Quote:

The Boleyn Ground got a fitting send-off in a highly-entertaining affair that hurt Manchester United’s Top Four hopes in a big way.

Diafra Sakho, Winston Reid and Michail Antonio scored in a thrilling 3-2 win for West Ham that moves the Irons to within a point of fifth-place United. Anthony Martial scored a pair of goals, the second one a gorgeous one.

It’s zero surprise that the Boleyn Ground was full of bubbles and noise as the final match kicked off, and the buzz about the ground was palpable. And the Hammers gave their supporters an added boost 10-minutes when Sakho sent his shot off of Daley Blind and spinning past a diving David De Gea. 1-0 to the hosts.

Andy Carroll had a 1v1 with De Gea, the big Englishman dribbling alone for 30 or more yards before hitting his low shot right into the goalkeeper’s legs. Michail Antonio headed a ball home moments later off a deflected cross, but the linesman pointed to the corner as its flight went out of play post-deflection.

Despite West Ham dominated the first half, it wasted major chances to build on its lead and saw the score line go 1-1 when Marcus Rashford played a no-look pass to a streaking Juan Mata and the Spaniard passed across the six for Martial to pass home.

That wasn’t a turning point for United, no, not at all. West Ham pushed forward with fervor, and Dimitri Payet lorded over a prime free kick in the 71st minute, 22 yards from goal. He sent it over the frame.

Then, chaos (in a good way). Antonio took his chance well from inside the 18 before Martial scored a stunner from an improbable angle.

That’s when that longtime Hammer, New Zealand defender Winston Reid, redirected a ball in traffic that beat De Gea to give us our final score.

--In West Ham’s 2,398th and final home game at Upton Park, the Hammers end a 14-game league winless streak against Man United. #WHUFC #COYI (Paul Carr, ESPN - 10 May 2016)

'Martinez Out'
Sunderland v Everton (19:45 BST)
--Surely the end is nigh for Roberto Martinez.

Everton are a shambles of late. That may sound harsh but one win in nine league games, with talents like Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku, Leighton Baines and others is surely not good enough.

Have no doubt, the 'Martinez Out' campaign at Goodison is getting louder, but there are still some fans who want to give the Spaniard the benefit of the doubt. For now.

Ahead of visiting the Stadium of Light, Martinez said: "There is a lot riding on the game for us after the performance we had (at Leicester). We need to react and we need to perform in the highest possible level."
