'Martinez Out'
Sunderland v Everton (19:45 BST)
--Surely the end is nigh for Roberto Martinez.

Everton are a shambles of late. That may sound harsh but one win in nine league games, with talents like Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku, Leighton Baines and others is surely not good enough.

Have no doubt, the 'Martinez Out' campaign at Goodison is getting louder, but there are still some fans who want to give the Spaniard the benefit of the doubt. For now.

Ahead of visiting the Stadium of Light, Martinez said: "There is a lot riding on the game for us after the performance we had (at Leicester). We need to react and we need to perform in the highest possible level."
Maybe more then 100 supporters protesting at the end might do the trick? A few thousand should be staying behind if its so bad.

Well, if Sudnerland beat them today, Everton might just gop ahead and put Martinez on a bus and be done with it.

...speaking of Everton....
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport chief football writer: This result must surely be the end for Roberto Martinez as Everton manager.

This was the third successive Premier League away performance that has bordered on embarrassment after the losses at Liverpool and Leicester City.

Such is the strength of discontent about the Martinez regime that it might actually be humane to withdraw the Catalan from the firing line before a potentially toxic final game at home to Norwich City this weekend.

Newcastle United statement
Newcastle are relegated
--Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley has put out a statement in which he thanks fans and staff at the club for their contribution this season.

"Tonight we are devastated at our relegation from the Premier League, as I know every single person connected to this football club will be," he writes.

"I want to thank all of the fans for the support you have shown for the club you love throughout the season, in spite of this massive disappointment and under-achievement.

"We know that supporters want to know what the future holds and will want to hear more from us as soon as possible. The process of scrutinising what went wrong and planning for what is to come has already begun. Right now, of course, Rafa and the team must prepare for the final game of the season but after that, please rest assured we will communicate more fully with supporters."

Manager reaction
Norwich 4-2 Watford
--Norwich boss Alex Neil: "It is severe disappointment. In recent matches we have known it was going to be a difficult match. We had it in our hands five matches ago but we came up short.

"The story for us is that as a club, we have dropped short for a variety of reasons. We have made vital errors in games at crucial times and the recruitment has not been as good to strengthen the squad.

"The support was humbling for. We have not given them too much to shout about and that makes it harder for me to accept for letting them down.

"I am here to do a job, the club will be bigger than me and I am not fearing for my job."

He could always follow in the footsteps of that other great football genius, David Moyes, and go down the East Lanc Road to Old Trafford some place in Manchester.... laugh1

BBC Sport: Guidolin To Stay On As Swansea Boss

Quote:

Swansea City have confirmed Francesco Guidolin will remain as head coach after agreeing a two-year contract.

Guidolin, 60, was appointed in January on a six-month contract after Alan Curtis' temporary spell in charge, with the club in the relegation zone.

The Italian has led them to 11th place - 12 points clear of the bottom three, and they could finish in the top half.

"Francesco fully deserves the chance to continue his good work into the new campaign," chairman Huw Jenkins said.

"He was prepared to come into the club at such a difficult time and put himself in a pressure situation with the club fighting for survival.

"It's going to be another challenge for everyone, but we are looking forward to seeing how far he can take this squad of players over a full season.

"There has obviously been a lot of speculation over recent weeks about a possible change of manager, but the board has been impressed with the way he has quietly gone about the job of improving performances and results since January."

The Italian members of Guidolin's backroom staff, Gabriele Ambrosetti and Diego Bortoluzzi, have also been offered new contracts.

SB Nation - Royal Blue Mersey: Roberto Martinez Sacked

--CONFIRMED: The club have now confirmed that Martinez has left Everton.

Everton Football Club regrets to announce that Roberto Martinez has left his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect. (Everton FC, 12 May 2016)

Everton Football Club regrets to announce that Roberto Martinez has left his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.

The Chairman and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their thanks for the dedication and commitment Roberto has shown during his three seasons with the Club. Roberto has been a great ambassador for the Club, conducting himself, at all times, with the utmost integrity and dignity. He secured the Club its highest ever Premier League points total, a place in the last 16 of the Europa League and appearances in both domestic cup semi-finals. He has also played a key role in the development of several young players, managing their progression to the Everton First Team and International honours.

After three seasons in charge, Roberto Martinez has been relieved of his duties as manager of Everton FC effective immediately.

The club have yet to officially announce the decision but Sky Sports News HQ say Martinez has now left the club. Speculation had mounted about the Spaniard's future at Goodison Park over the past few months. There was also the matter of sorting out the repercussions of terminating a contract that had three years left on a reported £4m-a-year deal.

Rumors came to head at the end of April as an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Liverpool was followed by a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup Semifinal. Coupled with a semi-final loss in the League Cup and a second consecutive lower mid-table finish, it was enough to cost Martinez his job.

The club had hoped to wait until the end of the season to make a decision regarding Martinez's future, but further limp defeats to Leicester and Sunderland, as well as the threat of further fan protests, have forced their hand.

With the club having failed to make the top half for two consecutive years with what is widely regarded as a squad with plenty of potential, many felt it was time for a change and the new owner Farhad Moshiri thankfully agreed. Despite having a marginal better win percentage than David Moyes, the past two years under Martinez have been problematic for the club and the squad has not capitalized on the significant investment made in players like Romelu Lukaku and James McCarthy.

Ultimately Roberto Martinez's tenure provided a glimpse of two different futures for Everton. One is a continued upward trajectory that started under David Moyes. Competition for a Champions League place through vibrant attacking soccer. With young players like Lukaku and Ross Barkley it seemed like Everton could do anything. The future was what became his downfall. Brilliant attacking soccer that could not withstand a defense that leaked worse than a cardboard bathtub. Players playing without any confidence or understanding of what to do, and eventually they played without confidence in their manager.

For Everton the future is in the air. The club will have an excellent crop of candidates to pick from with Ajax coach Frank de Boer under consideration along with other names like Rafa Benitez, Manuel Pellegrini, and even David Moyes if rumors are to be believed.

I thought the same thing, Random, but Everton play at home Sunday and I suspect the last thing Kenwright & Company wanted was another "Martinez Out" protest, so better to cut the cord now and be done with it than go through another protest again.
