A bomb scare at Old Trafford that game has now been called off.
Been following events there, Teebag......now the big question I suspect is going to be, "Whose device was it and why there?"

BBC Sport: Manchester United Finish 5th With 3-1 Win Over Bournemouth

Marcus Rashford impressed as Manchester United clinched a Europa League group spot by beating Bournemouth in their rearranged Premier League match. The teams met at a sparsely populated Old Trafford after Sunday's game was called off following a bomb scare.

Wayne Rooney tucked the home side ahead after Rashford's dummy, then the young striker drilled in from 12 yards. Ashley Young converted Rooney's pass, before Chris Smalling diverted in Max Gradel's shot as United finished fifth.

The final-game victory took the hosts above Southampton, who go into the Europa League qualifying stage next season.

Now the Red Devils turn their attentions to Saturday's FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley. Louis van Gaal, who still faces an uncertain future, is aiming to lead United to their first major trophy since the Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

NBC Sports: Watford Bring Walter Mazzarri As New Manager

Posted Image
Quote:

When Quique Sanchez Flores was let go out of the blue one week ago, there was plenty of surprise throughout the Premier League. The Spaniard had stabilized a tumultuous position and led the Hornets to a very respectable 13th in their first season following promotion.

Now we know why the move was made.

Saturday, the club announced the appointment of former Inter and Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri, signing him to a three-year deal. It will be the Italian’s first foray outside of his home country in both his playing and managerial careers.

“Walter has been the target of a number of approaches for his services, so we’re delighted to secure him as Head Coach here at Watford,” said Watford CEO Scott Duxbury in the club’s official release. “We’re thoroughly looking forward to working with such a highly-regarded coach, with the progress and development of the club always remaining the highest priority.”

Mazzarri won the Coppa Italia with Napoli in 2012, which he followed up by leading them to the Champions League with a second-place finish in Serie A the next year. That led to his appointment at Inter, where the sinking Italian giants hoped he could be their savior, but he was sacked November 2014, unable to recover the club and leaving them ninth in the table. He has since been out of management.

Watford has had plenty of Italian ties since Giampaolo Pozzo and his son Gino took over the club in 2012. They were the cause of new loan rules across the English leagues after securing a whopping nine players on loan from Serie A club Udinese in the 2013-14 season, which the family also owns, along with Spanish club Granada.

BBC Sport: Jose Mourinho, Manchester United Agree To Terms
Quote:

Jose Mourinho is expected to be officially confirmed as Manchester United's new manager on Friday.

The former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss replaces Louis van Gaal, who was sacked on Monday, two days after United won the FA Cup. Discussions, which started on Tuesday and were delayed by negotiations over Mourinho's image rights, finally finished on Thursday.

The 53-year-old Portuguese is expected to sign a three-year contract.

Mourinho's appointment has been backed by some former United players, including Peter Schmeichel, Rio Ferdinand and Steve Bruce.

"I have heard many say the 'Mourinho way' is not the Manchester United style of playing football," Ferdinand wrote on his Facebook page. "However, the Chelsea team that Jose put together first time round when he entered the Premier League played with wingers and hurt teams with quick attacking play.

"This is a sign he knows how to get a team playing in a way Manchester United fans can look forward to seeing." He added: "One thing I can tell Manchester United fans is that they have got themselves a true winner in all aspects. His CV shows success."

NBC Sports: Koeman To Leave Southampton For Merseyside

Posted Image
Quote:

Two years ago, Ronald Koeman was a surprising — maybe even head-scratching? — hire by Southampton after Mauricio Pochettino left for Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s hard to think of that tenure, now coming to an end with his expected move to Everton, as anything but an unquestioned success.

Sky Sports reports that Everton and Saints have reached a compensation agreement in the neighborhood of $8 million that will allow Koeman to flee Southampton for Merseyside, along with brother Erwin Koeman and assistant Jan Kluitenberg.

Sources say Southampton is waiting on confirmation of the deal, but have been working through a list of potential replacements.

Koeman, 53, won 48 percent of his matches at Southampton boss, guiding the side to a 7th place finish in his first season and a sixth place campaign this season. That last finish is Southampton’s highest top-flight finish since 1984-85, when they finished fifth.

Liverpool Echo: Skrtel Set To Depart For Fenerbache

Posted Image
Quote:

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel looks set to seal a £5.5million move to Fenerbahce. The Reds are ready to accept a bid of 7million Euros tabled by the Turkish outfit and give the long-serving centre-back permission to discuss personal terms.

Skrtel, who captained Slovakia to a 2-1 victory over Russia in Euro 2016 on Wednesday, is surplus to requirements after eight years of loyal service at Anfield.

The 31-year-old centre-back dropped down the pecking order following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp last season and is keen to take on a new challenge in order to secure regular first-team football.

With new signing Joel Matip arriving from Schalke and the threat of a long ban having been lifted from the shoulders of Mamadou Sakho, Skrtel’s opportunities would have been heavily limited next term.

Skrtel’s agent revealed on Tuesday that the player was considering offers from Fenerbahce and Wolfsburg, as well as a potentially lucrative move to China.

However, Fenerbahce, who were also keen on signing Skrtel last summer, are the clear front-runners with an agreement now in place between the two clubs. Liverpool did business with the Turks last summer when they allowed Lazar Markovic to join them on a season-long loan. The deal is set to be completed after Skrtel’s duties at Euro 2016 are complete.

Skrtel made 320 appearances for the Reds following his £6.5million move from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008. However, he struggled with both fitness and form last season. He made just four starts following the turn of the year and was an unused substitute in May’s Europa League final.

NBC Sports: Saints Agree To Deal With Spurs Over Wanyama

Posted Image
Quote:

BBC Radio Solent reports that Southampton has agreed to sell Victor Wanyama to Tottenham Hotspur for approximately $16 million.

The move would reunite Wanyama with his old manager Mauricio Pochettino, who brought the Kenyan midfielder to St. Mary’s from Celtic in 2013.

Wanyama turns 25 later this month, but already had 47 caps for his national team and made 92 appearance for Saints.

The move helps depth at White Hart Lane, where Pochettino is preparing to lead Spurs back into the UEFA Champions League. Wanyama provides an alternative to Eric Dier or Mousa Dembele.

Jamie Vardy has agreed a new deal with Premier League champions Leicester. I think its a good move by him, Im sure he was offered some really tasty deals but he hasn't let it all get to him. I think Leicester can carry on were they left and be a threat again come the new season.

Agreed; classy move by the Varde. I mean, he could've taken the money and ran, but he didn't and that is a good thing.

It would appear so...at the very least, it'll give the Saints extra depth this season.

NBC Sports: Southampton Sign Norwich's Nathan Redmond

Posted Image
Quote:

Southampton may not have a manager, but the Premier League side has a new player in English U-23 star Nathan Redmond.

Redmond, 22, made 122 starts for Norwich City — 75 in the Premier League — after arriving from Birmingham City in 2013.

The attacker was a bright spot during Norwich’s relegation-doomed 2015-16 season, and will be a big loss for Alex Neil at Carrow Road.

Reports say the fee was just under $14 million.

From SaintsFC.co.uk: Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome Nathan to Southampton Football Club. Despite being just 22, Nathan has gained plenty of experience in the Premier League with Norwich City, showing his quality at the top level on a consistent basis.”

Slick pickup for Saints, who will certainly need depth when they join the Europa League at the group stage this season. Like Charlie Austin, the price seems somehow cheaper when Saints buy an English player.
