....this time, its' Wales' resident Premier League club - Swansea City - that seems to be in the investors' eyes now:
Quote:

Further rumors of American investment in the Premier League have arrived in the form of an ex-Major League Baseball club owner and a certain club in Wales.

John Moores is a 70-year-old businessman who most notably owned the San Diego Padres from 1994-2012. He’s being linked with Swansea City, though club chairman Huw Jenkins said while the club is entertaining investors, any specific names would be “pure speculation.”

A BBC report quotes Jenkins as saying, “There is a level of confidentiality that has to remain until there is a bit more to give,” but investment would be a welcome respite for a club that has succeeded through the shared money of the league more than offshore billions and massive global branding.

Swansea City Supporters Society Ltd owns 20 percent of the club as it stands now, while four others including Jenkins own between 10 and 22.5 percent of the club.

Five Premier League clubs currently have American ownership of backing (Manchester United, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Arsenal and Liverpool), while three Championship clubs (Derby County, Fulham, Millwall) and one League One club (Coventry City) also have US ties.

Its becoming the norm now for US investors to be interested in English clubs, the money clubs make via Sky, BT and so on is huge. Being relegated is lucrative itself with many millions pumped into the club via parachute payments £60m spread over four years.

For any prospective investors to do well in the Premier League, they've got to do three things:
1-respect the history & traditions of the club
2-gain the trust of the supporters (and keep the trust once gained)
3-spend what is needed but not to excess

Do those three things and most times, things go well.

now it looks like the Southampton hype from the media was a bit misleading now that they've had to play some of the big sides in the league

For the second year in a row, it would appear so...the difference btwn. last year & this year, though, is that, IIRC, the media had Southampton struggling to avoid relegation this year, which they're at no risk of atm. That said, I don't think they'll stay up in the European spots for much longer.

Some good scores today coming in, Ideal for Liverpool biggrin
Today's scores....
-Spurs & United draw 0-0 at White Hart Lane
-Saints & the Blues level at 1-1 down on the South Coast
-0-0 draw at Villa Park between the Villans & the Black Cats
-Burnley claw a point out of City at the Etihad, 2-2
-the Gunners take the 3 pts away from the Hammers 3-2
-QPR & Palace level out 0-0 at Loftus Road
-Leicester win over Hull 1-0 in a relegation 6-pointer
-Stoke win 2-0 over the Baggies at the Brittania
-the Toon Army celebrate as Newcastle defeat Everton 3-2 up on Tyneside

...now, how does this effect tomorrow's Liverpool-Swansea match?
-A Liverpool win or draw would see them jump back over Newcastle into 9th
-A Swansea win would see them jump over Spurs into 7th on goal difference

BBC Sport: Premier League TV rights - Sky and BT pay £5.1bn for live games
Quote:

Sky and BT Sport will pay the Premier League £5.136bn to share live TV rights for three seasons from 2016-17. Sky have been granted five of the seven match packages on offer, including the first Friday evening games and both Sunday packages. Under the contract, which represents a 70% increase on Sky and BT's current deal, 168 games will be shown live, at an average cost of £10.2m.

Premier League boss Richard Scudamore refused to give details of payments. He also said he had given no thought to the overseas rights for the same period, which have not been sold. "Burnley are bigger economically than Ajax, which says a lot about how our league is made up," said chief executive Scudamore. "Clubs will have to address ticket prices to make sure the stadia remain full. Maybe there will be increased hard work for the clubs."
