...its' rare for me to agree with United boss Jose Mourinho, but given the events in Leicester this week.....
(BBC Sport) Jose Slams Foxes --Speaking of a backlash, here is the Mirror's take on what Jose Mourinho had to say about Ranieri's sacking. Jose, of course, has personal experience of being sacked the season after winning the title.

Daily Telegraph: Mignolet - "Leicester Let Title Go To Their Head"

- Quote:
-
Simon Mignolet was beaten by arguably the most iconic goal of Jamie Vardy’s career on his last visit to Leicester. Twelve months on, Liverpool’s goalkeeper is wondering where it all went wrong for the fallen champions.
Mignolet returns to the King Power Stadium on Monday night to find opponents in disarray, fighting relegation and without a manager following the decision to sack Claudio Ranieri on Thursday.
Nine months after the 5,000-1 outsiders were crowned champions for the first time in their 132-year history, Leicester are in danger of falling into the Championship.
The Belgium international, a thoughtful, intelligent character, cannot help but wonder if last season’s success went to Leicester’s heads. “Every season is different, and you know the competition in the Premier League is so hard from top to bottom,” Mignolet said. “After they won the title, I guess when they went into the new season, they were thinking: ‘How is this season going to go?’
“It was difficult to say, because they’ve got more games to play, they’ve got the Champions League. Maybe their focus is more on that because they’ve never been in that situation before.
“Their mood is still confident, but there’s always this fine margin between being confident and being overconfident, or putting your mind on something else other than what you actually should do.”
While Leicester had the momentum with them last season, this time it has been against them. It is a problem Mignolet recognises, having seen Liverpool struggle for league form in the two seasons after almost winning the title in 2014.
He said: “If you then start losing games, you wonder: ‘What’s happening here? Last year, everything went for us, and now nothing’s going for us.’ It’s some sort of mental aspect that comes into the game as well, where you start thinking: ‘Oh no, not again. This is happening again.’ And then you’re getting a snowball effect.” -Read more: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/02/25/liverpools-simon-mignolet-says-struggling-leicester-may-

NBC Sports: Kane, Dele React To Spurs Thrashing Of Stoke
- Quote:
-
Tottenham Hotspur stars Harry Kane and Dele Alli believe the side’s 4-0 win over Stoke City on Sunday is a good start in making amends for a lackluster Europa League exit.
That’s especially true for Dele, who was sent off in Thursday’s 2-2 draw against Gent. “I felt horrible after the game and at halftime I apologized to the boys,” Dele said. “I went to see the guy right after the game to see if he was alright.”
Dele then scored Spurs’ fourth goal on Sunday, though he was a bit surprised to see hat trick hero Harry Kane slide the ball his way.
“We had a laugh at halftime,” Dele said. “I thought he was going to go for four.”
As for Kane, he was the clear cut star of the show in netting a hat trick before the break to help Spurs create a good feeling at White Hart Lane.
“It was important,” Kane said. “We wanted to come out and get back to winning ways. Thursday was very disappointing for us.”
As for the hat trick?
“Just trying to get my shots off,” he said. “Bit of luck with the third one but if you don’t shoot you don’t score.”
A bit of North London’s Wayne Gretzky in that quote.

BBC Sport: Caretaker In Line For Permanent Leicester Spot

- Quote:
-
Caretaker boss Craig Shakespeare is firmly in contention for the Leicester manager's job on a longer-term basis following Claudio Ranieri's sacking.
Shakespeare was Ranieri's assistant and is popular with the club's players.
And the 53-year-old could be given the job until at least the end of the season, depending how the Foxes fare in Monday's league game against Liverpool.
Leicester won the Premier League last season but go into the match in the relegation zone.
No timescale has yet been set for the appointment, but if Shakespeare remains in charge for Saturday's home match against Hull City - a vital game for both clubs - a return of four points out of six and improved performances would count in his favour.
Shakespeare represents continuity, having been at the side of previous managers Nigel Pearson and Ranieri.
And, with just 13 games left this season, other candidates with higher profiles may not feel they have enough time left to arrest the slide.
Shakespeare gets on well with the players and is a highly regarded coach.
Former England coach Sam Allardyce thought enough of him to bring him into his coaching set-up with the national team, despite never having worked with him.
The Leicester hierarchy felt Shakespeare handled himself well in a difficult situation when he met the media after Ranieri's departure, showing just the right amount of steely ambition when asked if he would like the job full-time while dealing diplomatically with some tough questions.
He was also smart enough to avoid publicly shaming the players - knowing he has to work with them for at least a few more days. -Read more: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39104891

NBC Sports: Hull City Loses Big Forward For Critical Stretch

- Quote:
-
Dieumerci Mbokani was a force in Hull City’s 1-1 draw with Burnley this weekend, but the Tigers will have to continue their relegation scrap without him.
Mbokani, 31, picked up a hamstring injury that will sideline the striker for six weeks, a stretch which includes critical six-pointers against Leicester City, Swansea City, and Middlesbrough.
The giant Congolese center forward has not scored in 10 Premier League matches this season, but has featured often for new manager Marco Silva.
Hull has Oumar Niasse, Abel Hernandez, and Adama Diomande as potential center forwards in Mbokani’s stead.

NBC Sports: Hodgson Speaks With Leicester, Is Interested In Manager Position

- Quote:
-
Roy Hodgson could make his 20th full-time coaching stop a relegation fight.
The former England, Liverpool, Inter Milan, and Switzerland boss is interested in the vacant Leicester City gig, according to Sky Sports. He resigned from the England gig after EURO 2016.
Craig Shakespeare scored a win in his first match as caretaker boss, and many speculate that he could be in line for the gig.
It’s all speculation, though. Here’s Sky Sports: Only four people – Leicester’s chairman Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, vice chairman Khun Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, chief executive Susan Wheeler and director of football Jon Rudkin – are involved in discussions about the future manager, although none of those are divulging any information about the process.
The Daily Mail says that Hodgson has spoken with Leicester. He has survival experience with Fulham, and the Foxes could do far worse than the veteran.

NBC Sports: Mings Denies Stamping Zlatan; Rooney & Mourinho Unhappy
- Quote:
-
In Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings went at it all game long and things boiled over. Big time.
After some early tussles Mings appeared to stamp on Ibrahimovic’s head as he was on the floor and moments later when a corner came in the Swedish striker swung his elbow at Mings in what looked like an act of retribution. “No, not at all, I would never do that. That’s not in my game,” Mings said. “Hard and fair is how I like to tackle but off the ball stuff like that isn’t part of my game.”
Wayne Rooney, who was right next the initial incident, thinks otherwise.
“I was right there. It’s wrong in football, it’s wrong,” Rooney said. “To try and stamp on a players head it is wrong and there is no place for it. I’m sure there will be punishment after the game. I’ve been on the end of studs to the head and it is not nice. I’m sure the right punishment will be given.”
United’s manager Jose Mourinho didn’t want to get too involved in the post-match talk about the incidents (perhaps because he knows Zlatan could well be handed a retrospective ban) but he did have his say on Mings and at half time of the game he was shown having a stern word with the Bournemouth defender as the teams emerged from the tunnel.
“If you ask me if I’m happy if Tyrone Mings gets four or five matches ban, I really don’t care,” Mourinho said. “He knows what he did, he knows better than anyone what he did. He knows better than the referee the intention or the emotion of the moment.”
Mings was asked about going head-to-head with Ibrahimovic and seemed to enjoyed the battle.
“He is who he is, he is a good player, a physical player. I knew what sort of battle I was going to be in for coming here, playing against him. That’s what we had all day, it was a battle. There was maybe an elbow when the ball came in after. I didn’t see it. I felt it. What happened after that with Surman getting sent off, I didn’t see.”
Did Mings feel like Zlatan was coming after him after the stamp incident?
“I had that feeling for the rest of the game, for the whole game,” Mings laughed. “He is a physical guy and it was a good test. It was a good battle all day.”

NBC Sports: Craig Shakespeare A Serious Candidate For Leicester Job

- Quote:
-
According to multiple reports across England, Leicester City interim manager Craig Shakespeare will learn if he has done enough to earn the permanent job at the King Power Stadium.
Shakespeare took over on a temporary basis after the controversial departure of Claudio Ranieri, and since then, Leicester City has won both matches he took charge of, with a pair of 3-1 wins over Liverpool and fellow relegation candidates Hull City in the span of six days.
Now, according to the Daily Mail (and others in England), Shakespeare will meet with the Leicester City board to make his pitch to them for the permanent job. The Foxes had lost five matches in a row at the time of Ranieri’s departure, and they had not won consecutive league matches at any point this season before Shakespeare’s short tenure... “I was told the remit was the Liverpool game and then Hull,” Shakespeare said. “I have been told now – and I am quite comfortable with it – that we will have a talk towards the end of the week. The challenge we asked of the players was to put back-to-back wins together. We showed great character and resilience today to bounce back from going one down.”
“The owners will make the decision that is best for the club. Until I talk to them, I don’t know what their thoughts are.”
The other serious candidate mentioned most recently is former Fulham, Liverpool, and England boss Roy Hodgson, who also took over at Blackburn in 1997 just two years after they surprisingly won the Premier League title before falling off soon after.
“I’m there to listen to what their wishes are at the moment and I’m very comfortable with how things have gone and what they’ve told me so far,” Shakespeare said after Leicester’s last win, a victory over Hull. “There hasn’t been a lot of dialogue, but I don’t expect there to be because I’m trying to prepare the team for the next match.” -Read more: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/craig-shakespeare-told-leicester-week-9970698

BBC Sport: Kane Brace Leads Spurs To Win Over Everton

- Quote:
-
Harry Kane scored twice and produced another masterclass in centre-forward play as second-placed Tottenham defeated Everton to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points. The 23-year-old is now the leading scorer in the Premier League with 19 goals, and has found the net 14 times in 12 league and cup games in 2017.
He gave Tottenham the lead in the 20th minute when he unleashed a venomous strike from 20 yards that beat Joel Robles at his near post.
The England forward's second came after the break. Belgian Mousa Dembele caught French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin dawdling on the ball, allowing Dele Alli to poke a pass through to his team-mate. The Spurs striker then applied a sidefoot finish past the Spanish keeper.
Kane's opposite number Romelu Lukaku had struggled for service up until the 81st minute when he scored with the Toffees' second effort on target. Kevin Mirallas played a pass to the Belgian, who was given a clear sight on goal after Jan Vertonghen slipped. Lukaku kept his composure to slot in.
A frantic finish saw both tiring defences exposed. First, Alli ghosted past his markers to poke in Harry Winks' free-kick and make it 3-1. And with seconds remaining, Everton substitute Enner Valencia beat the offside trap to tap in Ross Barkley's set-piece from the right.
Spurs survived the remaining moments to secure their 16th league win of the season. The Toffees remain in seventh. -Read more: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39093822
BBC Sport: Manchester City Retake 3rd With 2-0 Away Win Over Sunderland

- Quote:
-
Sergio Aguero scored his fifth goal in his last three games to help Manchester City back into third place in the Premier League and keep Sunderland rooted to the bottom of the table.
The Black Cats had defended doggedly before a swift City counter attack ended with Aguero prodding in Raheem Sterling's low cross from close range.
The visitors then clicked into gear as David Silva fed the explosive Leroy Sane for the Germany winger to double their lead after the break.
Jermain Defoe did find the net in a rare Sunderland attack late on, but his header was ruled out for offside.
The result could have been more comfortable for City, but Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford saved well from Aguero.
For all City's possession, it was the hosts who threatened first, Defoe hitting the post with a bouncing effort from outside the box that had Willy Caballero beaten.
Fabio Borini headed wide from the rebound, and any hopes David Moyes' side had of taking three points seemed to evaporate with that miss. -Read more: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39093809

BBC Sport: Chelsea Tighten Grip On Premiership With 2-1 Win Over West Ham

- Quote:
-
Diego Costa and Eden Hazard scored as Chelsea beat West Ham to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 10 points.
It was the Blues' 21st victory of the league season and another big step towards winning the title in Antonio Conte's first season as manager.
The Italian was once again spot on with his tactics - nullifying the predictable aerial threat of the Hammers' 6ft 4in frontman Andy Carroll early in the match.
And then in the 25th minute his attackers cruelly exposed the hosts' defence with a devastating counter-attack.
N'Golo Kante read a pass from Robert Snodgrass deep inside the Chelsea half on the left and played the ball to Hazard. The Belgium winger drove forward, played a one-two with Pedro and then shifted the ball past keeper Darren Randolph before slotting home.
The Blues doubled their lead after the break when Hazard's corner from the left was turned in with his thigh by Costa - the Spain striker's 17th league goal of the season.
The Hammers came close after Costa's strike when Sofiane Feghouli's low drive was brilliantly saved by Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso then appeared to block Manuel Lanzini's half-volley with his arm moments later - but referee Andre Marriner deemed it to be accidental.
West Ham finally pierced the last line of defence in stoppage time. Carroll robbed Cesc Fabregas and fed Andre Ayew, who squared for Lanzini to fire in. -Read more: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39099634

BBC Sport: Man United Striker Given 3-Game Match Ban For Violent Conduct

- Quote:
-
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has accepted a three-match ban for violent conduct for elbowing Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United striker will miss Monday's FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea and Premier League games against Middlesbrough and West Brom.
Mings was also charged with violent conduct by the Football Association.
But Bournemouth have said they will appeal against the defender's charge.
Ibrahimovic, who is United's leading scorer this season with 26 goals, is eligible to play in the Europa League tie against Rostov in Russia on Thursday. He is due to return in the Premier League against Everton on 4 April.
Mings, 23, landed on the United forward's head with his studs before Ibrahimovic, 35, caught his rival in the face with his elbow at a corner.
The players were given until 18:00 GMT on Tuesday to respond to the charge.
Deliberate elbowing and stamping are both red card offences. However, the FA suggested Mings could face an increased ban for his offence.
An FA statement said: "The FA has submitted a claim that the standard punishment that would otherwise apply for the misconduct committed by the Bournemouth defender is 'clearly insufficient'."
"Off-the-ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite referees.
"Each referee panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence. For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous."

BBC Sport: Manchester City Frustrated By Resilient Stoke, Match Ends 0-0

- Quote:
-
Manchester City's title hopes suffered a potentially-decisive blow after they were held by a resolute Stoke side and missed the chance to cut Chelsea's lead at the top of the table.
A win for City would have moved them above Tottenham and into second place but they could not find the attacking spark required to break down a well-drilled Potters side.
City boss Pep Guardiola had said before kick-off that his team could not afford any more slip-ups in their pursuit of the leaders, who remain 10 points clear of the chasing pack with 11 games left.
Guardiola's side were sluggish before the break and, although they improved when David Silva came off the bench in the second half, he could not make the difference.
Silva had City's best effort when he drilled a low shot a fraction wide after a one-two with Fernandinho but, despite a flurry of late chances, Stoke keeper Lee Grant's only save came from a first-half free-kick by Aleksandar Kolarov. -Read more: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39136972
