....well, at least we know who'll succeed "the Head" at Old Trafford, right?

(NBC ProSoccerTalk) Louis van Gaal was only appointed manager of Manchester United this summer, but he is already naming Ryan Giggs to be his successor.

Giggs acted as manager for the final four matches of United’s season last year after David Moyes was sacked, and was kept on as an assistant to Van Gaal.

Earlier in the week, Van Gaal commented on how quickly Giggs was learning as a coach, and even said the former-Manchester United star reads the game similar to one Jose Mourinho.

Today the Dutchman come out and told MUTV that he believes Giggs will take over as the next manager at Manchester United.

I expect that he [Giggs] will be the next manager after I am gone. Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well.”

If anyone has the resume to lead Manchester United, it’s Ryan Giggs. The 41-year-old Welshman made over 900 appearances for United over his 24-year career at Old Trafford, the most in club history. He is the most decorated player in English history, winning 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles and four FA Cup trophies, among numerous other titles and awards.

Earlier in the season it looked like there may have been some animosity between Giggs and Van Gaal, but those rumors went away as the team turned around its’ play. Van Gaal has a proven track record of winning at some of the biggest clubs in the world, so no matter their relationship, Giggs could not find many better to develop under.

Juventus midfielder Pogba left United in 2012 after failing to break into the first-team under Ferguson.

The 21-year-old has gone on to become a French international in Turin and is widely recognised as one of the most promising midfielders in Europe.

And Pogba has hit out at United and Ferguson, accusing them of showing him "disrespect" by making him train alone during a contract dispute before joining Juventus on a free transfer.

"They left me out because they said I wanted to leave," Pogba said. "That is disrespect.

"Maybe they didn't think they were making a mistake."

When Pogba left United, then-manager Ferguson said he was "quite happy" to offload the player who the Scot accused of not "showing us any respect at all."

But the former Le Havre youngster insists he was forced to protect himself at United.

"Manchester United is a big club but you have to think about yourself," Pogba added.

"You have to play. The coach told me there would be space to play, but I wasn't playing.

"I was training alone for one week. They told me to go in the gym. I said 'I am not an athlete, I am a footballer.'"

Since his move to Italy, Pogba has won the Serie A title and two Italian Super Cups.

He has been linked with a move away from Juventus though, with United's rivals City thought to be leading the chase for his signature.

This is from 2 years ago. Now, he's eating out of their palms. I think we know why.

....oh, great: we're only into MatchDay 2 and the Manchester United Ass-Kissing Brigade is already out in force.... swe1

(1) Mark Lawrenson, Former Republic of Ireland defender on Football Focus: Anyone who watched Paul Pogba play for Juventus last year will have seen he was sensational.

Forget what happened with France at the Euros, because he was in a slightly different role.

Manchester United need big stars like him. They've made a really good start, albeit against two teams I think will be in the bottom half of the league. Through the spine of the team, Manchester United look really strong.

(2) Martin Keown, Former England defender on Football Focus: Under Louis van Gaal, the football was boring to watch. Now it is the Manchester United of old and it is almost overnight.

What has impressed me most is the goals Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored with his head, he is very powerful and a machine when winning trophies and scoring goals. It has raised the bar at the club and it is good for the youngsters too.

People would look at Patrick Vieira in the tunnel and say, 'how big is he?' United also have Marouane Fellaini and he is pulling the strings for them now.
