....well, at least we know who'll succeed "the Head" at Old Trafford, right?

(NBC ProSoccerTalk) Louis van Gaal was only appointed manager of Manchester United this summer, but he is already naming Ryan Giggs to be his successor.

Giggs acted as manager for the final four matches of United’s season last year after David Moyes was sacked, and was kept on as an assistant to Van Gaal.

Earlier in the week, Van Gaal commented on how quickly Giggs was learning as a coach, and even said the former-Manchester United star reads the game similar to one Jose Mourinho.

Today the Dutchman come out and told MUTV that he believes Giggs will take over as the next manager at Manchester United.

I expect that he [Giggs] will be the next manager after I am gone. Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well.”

If anyone has the resume to lead Manchester United, it’s Ryan Giggs. The 41-year-old Welshman made over 900 appearances for United over his 24-year career at Old Trafford, the most in club history. He is the most decorated player in English history, winning 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles and four FA Cup trophies, among numerous other titles and awards.

Earlier in the season it looked like there may have been some animosity between Giggs and Van Gaal, but those rumors went away as the team turned around its’ play. Van Gaal has a proven track record of winning at some of the biggest clubs in the world, so no matter their relationship, Giggs could not find many better to develop under.

(BBC Sport) Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he is being judged by different rules to other Premier League bosses.

The Portuguese boss tried to contain his frustration at the performance of referee Mike Jones during Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Hull at Old Trafford.

Mourinho highlighted Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's exchange with fourth official Neil Swarbrick during their 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday.

"You know clearly I am different. The rules for me are different," he said.

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho, who earlier had walked out of a BBC TV interview, added: "Yesterday a fourth official told a manager: 'I enjoy very much your passion.' Today, I am told to sit down or I am going to be sent to the stand."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is currently serving a four-match touchline ban after being found guilty of verbally abusing fourth official Anthony Taylor, remaining in the technical area after his dismissal and then making physical contact with Taylor during Arsenal's home win against Burnley last month.

Mourinho has served two touchline bans this season, for speaking about Taylor prior to his side's trip to Liverpool in October and also kicking a water bottle during a home draw with West Ham in November. Both actions are against FA rules.

In addition, Mourinho was given a stadium ban in November 2015 when he was Chelsea boss after he was found guilty of going to referee Jon Moss' dressing room during a stormy London derby at West Ham.

And the United manager's long-time assistant Rui Faria served a six-game stadium ban when he had to be dragged away from referee Mike Dean during a Chelsea game against Sunderland in April 2014.

Mourinho said: "I watch my team from the hotel. I was forbidden to go to the stadium. My assistant had six matches stadium ban. I didn't touch anyone."

The Portuguese manager added of Hull: "I don't criticise my opponent. They are fighting for their lives. Every point for them is gold. They have to fight with everything they have. They tried to see what they were allowed to do."

Mourinho told reporters at the post-match press conference: "Tell the truth. It is as simple as that. You will be doing a public service, I think. If I speak I am punished. I don't want to be punished."

(NBC Sports) Manchester United cruised past St. Etienne 3-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a hat-trick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, bringing a sizeable lead into the second leg in France.

However, manager Jose Mourinho wasn’t pleased with the performance. Not at all.

“The first half we played so bad,” Mourinho said. “We managed to finish the first half winning 1-0 and we didn’t deserve [it].”

It’s a harsh assessment from Mourinho, but the boss is right. The Red Devils were forced to defend frantically on multiple occasions, with defender Eric Bailly providing a number of important blocks despite seeing himself beaten by visiting attackers. Nolan Roux missed a fabulous chance for the French side late, adding to United’s frustrations for letting him free.

One Manchester United player who had a fabulous match was Paul Pogba, who played well despite a poor finishing on the attacking end. Even so, Mourinho was caught screaming at Pogba for a back-pass towards the end of the first half instead of pushing play forward like the manager wanted.

Mourinho was even frustrated with the calm demeanor before the match, wishing his players would focus better.

On the other end, Ibrahimovic’s hat-trick wasn’t the prettiest he’s ever scored, getting goals on a deflected free-kick, a tap-in after great work by Marcus Rashford, and a soft penalty in the dying minutes.

Mourinho said after the match that he will start a strong side against Blackburn in the FA Cup on Sunday.

....hey: if you were playing for Manchester United, wouldn't you have commitment problems too?

BBC Sport) Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has questioned Luke Shaw's commitment to the Old Trafford club.

The 21-year-old defender has only played 15 times for the Reds this season and has not figured since last month's 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

And Mourinho claims he compares unfavourably to fellow defenders Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind.

"I cannot compare the way he trains and commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind," he said.

Mourinho was asked by reporters whether he expected more from an England international.

"Joe Hart is an English international and is playing on loan in Italy," he responded.

Shaw signed for the club in June 2014 for £27m but he broke his leg in two places during a Champions League game in September 2015 which kept him out of the game for almost a year.

In November, he was criticised by Mourinho for missing the Premier League win over Swansea after he said he was not able to play.

He was not part of the squad for Saturday's 0-0 draw against West Brom, despite United's lengthy injury list with Juan Mata (groin surgery) the latest addition joining defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones and midfielder Paul Pogba.

Mourinho, who was criticised by Match of the Day 2 pundit Chris Sutton for his side's lack of attacking threat, is unsure whether the Frenchman will return for Tuesday's Premier League visit of Everton.

"Pogba I cannot say he is ready for Tuesday because I don't know," he said. "I think Mata, Jones and Smalling for a long time, but I don't think Pogba is such a long-term injury as the others."
