Ian Wright, Former Arsenal & England striker on Radio 5 live: I think Sam Allardyce's appointment at Everton is something that had to happen. I'm not sure what happened in the first round of talks for him to say 'I'm out', but they’ve had to go back to Sam because they need to get out of trouble and that's exactly what he does.

Phil McNulty, BBC Sport chief football writer at Goodison Park: Everton manager-elect Sam Allardyce received a muted reception from a small group of fans as he got out of a car at Goodison Park ahead of his confirmation as Ronald Koeman's successor. Fair to say Allardyce's appointment has sparked a mixed reaction here tonight. He will have to win over doubters but he is no stranger to that in his career.
