Welcome to Talk The Reds. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Basically we're like most other Liverpool Forums, we have some general banter and some discussion about Liverpool FC, which is after all the reason we all came to this forum in the first place.

....came across this over on the Liverpool sub-reddit....

Push back against NBC Sports?
--It's absolutely infuriating that NBC corresponds with the S*n for their 'back pages' segment which is worthless in the first place. Its a shame because other than that, their coverage of the premier league is really good in my opinion.

I'm just curious if there was any push back, protest, petition to oppose this organized by Liverpool fans. Would love if there was a way to voice opposition to their partnership other than useless comments on Facebook videos. (Reddit user Dwalin8)
....and I'm somewhat conflicted. On the one hand, like most Liverpool fans on the sub-reddit, whenever Neil Ashton (the NBCSN analyst who writes for The ---) comes on, I almost instantly change the channel for the entire period he's on....OTOH, if you were to ask me who the top football analysts in England are, he's on my short list (which also includes Paul Joyce, James Pearce, Tony Barrett and Gary Lineker)...hence the conflict.

My question - from this side of the pond to the other - is this: should Liverpool ask NBC Sports to not have Neil Ashton as their "back pages" analyst and if they continue to do so, should the club do anything about it?

Thats a tough one. Seems from the Reddit replies that maybe if enough fans get together and do something then maybe something will happen.

The problem with that is, unfortunately, most American soccer fans just do not give a whit about who does the commentary for Premier League matcheson NBC Sports Network, the philosophy basically being that of "if Ashton's competent, what the hell does it matter who he works for?"

Before you could think of getting Ashton dropped, you'd have to change that particular philosophy amongst the average American soccer fan....and the odds of that happening is close to the odds of Donald Trump releasing his tax records: slim and none, and slim just left the building. sad1
