West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
--A-ha. Here's another shot on target...and it goes Liverpool's way. Adam Lallana has popped up on the left flank, showing more creativity than a surrealist artist to tee up James Milner. The Reds skipper's shot deflects off his own player - Divock Origi - and is easily gathered by Adrian.

West Ham 0-0 Liverpool
--Oooof! Philippe Coutinho is always the man who looks like producing a moment of magic for Liverpool and he almost does it again.

The Brazilian runs square along an imaginary horizontal line about 25 yards from the Hammers goal, then eeks out the inch of space he needs to shoot. It dips, it swerves, Adrian flaps, but the ball whistles over the home crossbar.

Finally, the Studge Swan is back! ghy

Brilliant set-up play on the Liverpool half, then straight to Sturridge, who breaks clear, gets around Adrian....and plants it square into the net; Liverpool 1, West Ham 0! ghy

Mark Schwarzer, Ex-Middlesbrough keeper on Radio 5 live: Coutinho and Sturridge have timed that beautifully. To pick him out and see him and play that ball is so, so good.

But it is a poor goal to concede from West Ham's point of view. It puts Liverpool in a great position. West Ham will either sit back and be fine with 1-0 or they need to step up and take it to Liverpool.

West Ham 0-1 Liverpool
--The Hammers not looking like they can grab a leveller before the break. They have not managed a shot at the Reds goal in the past 20 minutes. In fact they have only had one effort on target, that shot from Edimilson Fernandes earlier.

*watches the replay* How we're still ahead 1-0 I'll never know; that shot of West Ham's caromed off the pipes twice, then skittered into Mignolet's hands.....

...and there's the halftime whistle! A brilliant goal from Daniel Sturridge and Liverpool lead at the Olympic; your halftime score: Liverpool 1, West Ham United 0.

Mark Schwarzer, Ex-Middlesbrough keeper on Radio 5 live: Sturridge showed a number of early warning signs that he would be a danger in that first half but West Ham just haven't shut him down well enough.
