![]() (BBC Sport) Mind the gap Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST) --Team news for today's early game is expected in about 90 minutes. Philippe Coutinho remains a Liverpool player - for now - but he will not be in action at Watford due to a back injury. The Reds will also be without Daniel Sturridge (muscle) and Adam Lallana (thigh). Will Watford throw £18.5m club record signing Andre Gray in at the deep end? We'll have all the breaking team news from around 11:30 BST. |

![]() (BBC Sport) Blue skies Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST) --Blues skies, lush green playing surface...Watford is a glorious setting for our first match of the day. Will Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp be smiling at the end of the game? It'll certainly be interesting to hear what Klopp has to say about Philippe Coutinho's transfer request which the Brazilian submitted on the eve of the season. |

![]() (BBC Radio 5 Live) I'm not sure this is going to go down well with Liverpool fans but the Reds should let Philippe Coutinho move to Barcelona, says ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas. The midfielder submitted a transfer request after Liverpool said he was not for sale and rejected a 100 million euros (£90m) bid from Barcelona. Jenas believes Coutinho, 25, sees it as his only chance to play for Barcelona. "In my opinion, Liverpool should say 'thank you very much for your service, we'll keep this professional, on you go'," Jenas told BBC Radio 5 live. -Read more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40909543 |

![]() (BBC Sport) Calm before the storm Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST) --This is Watford's third straight season in the Premier League - an achievement itself. They ended last season with Walter Mazzarri at the helm but six straight defeats prompted his departure and Marco Silva finds himself in charge. New signings include midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea and Will Hughes from Derby. Will Brazilian forward Richarlison establish himself as a cult hero with Hornets fans? |

![]() (BBC Sport) Mignolet gets the nod Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST) --One name that will definitely appear on Liverpool's team-sheet at Vicarage Road is goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said the Belgian had got the nod ahead of Loris Karius and Danny Ward. "He did not have one bad day, which is cool, and after the season he had last year he is very confident. He has improved and is still improving in parts of his game," added Klopp. "Loris had a few little issues but was really strong in the games he played. Wardy had a bad pre-season because of back problems." |

Steve Bower, Match of the Day commentator: Liverpool will set off with anticipation but also further expectation, following only a second top-four finish in eight seasons. A large proportion of those expectations could hinge on whether Philippe Coutinho is still at the club at the start of September. There is little debate about Jurgen Klopp's team going forward - they have scored 133 Premier League goals since his arrival - but defensive questions still remain. The first boost for Watford is they start the season all conversing in the same language, and Marco Silva has increased their goal threat with the arrivals of Andre Gray and Brazillian Richarlison. It will be intriguing to see how another new manager sets about improvement. One of the hardest tests is first up - trying to curb Liverpool's attacking instincts." |

John Motson, Match of the Day commentator: It is not good for anyone when there is a stand-off between a player and his club. We have had it in several cases this summer. Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has dug his heels in and wants a move to Liverpool. That was temporarily knocked on the head when the Saints accused Liverpool of an illegal approach. The Dutchman is a fine central defender. Southampton are put in a position every summer where a player decides he wants to go somewhere else, they never seem to suffer though. With the flow of young players coming through, they will compensate if he does not stay. The new manager Mauricio Pellegrino is holding firm, but I think he will go. |

![]() (BBC Sport) Hornets buzzing Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST) --If there are problems are Liverpool, then it is quite the opposite at Watford. Under new boss Marco Silva, the Hornets have splashed out on bringing in former-Reds target Will Hughes (£8m), Brazilian Richarlison (£11m) and Andre Gray for a club-record £18.5m. And they have also completed the deal for former England Under-21 international Nathaniel Chalobah for a mere £5m. A snip in today's market and the bargain of the summer so far. "I wanted to come out and play," Chalobah said on leaving Chelsea. "Watford was my first loan and things went well. I was looking forward to coming back." |

Danny Mills, Ex-Man City and England defender on 5 live Sport: I don't think Philippe Coutinho will stay at Anfield. He started with a statement calling for an amicable move, but four days later he submitted a transfer request. It's his dream move and I don't blame him in the slightest. Liverpool have no right to make a fuss, especially with their pre-season behaviour involving Southampton. Ultimately, Coutinho will simply remain unhappy and Liverpool simply need to bite the bullet. The club has a £100m asset there, a player who may want to force a move. |
