...on the Firmino penalty....

Danny Mills, Ex-Man City and England defender on 5 live Sport: A blatant penalty. Perhaps Gomes just judged it wrong, after being quite slow to come off his line. And that was a superbly taken penalty.

Matthew Upson, Former Brighton defender at Vicarage Road for 5 live Sport: Britos got it horribly wrong at the back for Watford - he wasn't looking across his own line and played Firmino on. And it was great, unselfish centre-forward play from Firminho, who was through on his own in a good position but expertly chipped it across for Salah to finish.

....and Moreno w/a shot on goal; a top-corner shot that just misses the mark....
...and Matip heads a corner shot that caroms off the crossbar... *groans*

--145 minutes into the Premier League and there's already 12 goals. This is why we love English football. #bbcfootball (John Louis, 12 August 2017)

--#bbcfootball Who needs Coutinho?! If we can beat Watford without him then maybe we do stand a chance against the smaller teams! (Johnny Magrinho, 12 August 2017)

Matthew Upson, Former Brighton defender at Vicarage Road for 5 live Sport: It's looking very tough for Watford - they seem to have gone to pieces since falling behind, while Liverpool look rampant and likely to score more.

Derek Payne, Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio: Thrilling encounter so far and it has been heading Liverpool's way since half-time.

GREAT SAVE!
Watford 2-3 Liverpool
--Youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given the responsibility at set-pieces. He plays in a brilliant corner to the front post, which Dejan Lovren heads towards goal, but Heurelho Gomes flings himself to his right to push the ball away.

What an eventful game this has been and there are definitely more goals in it.

Watford 2-3 Liverpool
--England bowler Steven Finn, sat in the second row next to the dugout, shouts "come on ref" as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refuses to give the ball back to the opposition. You don't see ungentlemanly conduct like that in cricket, do you?

Matthew Upson, Former Brighton defender at Vicarage Road for 5 live Sport: Honestly, whenever the ball is wide or it's a corner I'm expecting the attacking side to make contact. No defender seems capable of taking the responsibility of picking a man, getting to him, using your body properly and dealing with the threat.

I used to do team drills all the time under a manager like Tony Pulis at Stoke. We were drilled in how to prevent an attacker taking control of a high ball.

A defence's priority is to be in control whereas today there's been so much static play, which means defenders stand no chance of winning duels.

CLOSE!
Watford 2-3 Liverpool
--Mohamed Salah has scored one, but missed a couple of sitters. This time the speedy winger is played in on goal by Sadio Mane.

The Egyptian bears down on goal, but plonks his right-footed shot into the side netting. Poor.

Derek Payne, Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio: A groan has just gone round Vicarage Road because Watford have another man down and it is Younes Kaboul. Watford have already used their three substitutes.

We thought last season was blighted with injuries, but we don't want to have to play the last ten minutes with 10 men. Nothing can be done in terms of reinforcements because their hands have been played.
