We're a single-thread RPG/Creative Writing/Arts/hang out and chat forum! We welcome anything you've got to show us, from arts, crafts, graphics, sprites, to fanfic, original stories, novels, short stories, to RPGs, or if you just want to hang out and chat with us, you're more then welcome. We offer a variety of boards across the forum, so you're sure to find a place to fit in somewhere.

The Flux was built by a former RPG-community, so expect lots of activity there. However, after we moved on from our last site we decided to expand.

We have a helpful, dedicated staff, ready and willing to answer questions, or offer help with whatever you need, whenever you need it.

Monsters and Things; Monster Hunters, and stuff~

Alright, so in order to organize what we have so far... We have been tossing this around in the cbox today, and now it's time to clear things up.

Also, please, please note if you're interested. Note your character race idea? Your weapon? Anything else you can think would be important.

Give me suggestions for a Guild Name, RP Name, anything you want to input. Feel free to speak up.

Firstly, our...

Setting
We're in a world that's largely fantasy based. Our level of technology will be somewhere around Steampunk, so we're looking at lots of steam-powered things, and lots of gears, and a bit of a rustic feel. Our outfits and clothing will be unique, but not too fancy. Our weapons are going to be steam-punkish, too(more details on weapons below). We will see some guns and such too. There's a big hunter-gatherer sort of thing going in the region we're in. We will see lots of farming, but lots of tools that make it easier. We'll see radio, but no television, or anything too greatly advanced. Overall, we're living rather olden style, but we're sort of in the middle of a revolution, so there will be new things being created.

Weapons
Our weapons are going to be steampunk level tech. We'll see swords, and some guns, and really anything. You can go for illogical, too. Our abilities lie with our weapons and their attachments. Attacahments come in two ways...

Technology - An example of this would be like... some sort of jet, strapped to a weapon to add to swinging ability. Or maybe some sort of shock-attachment that can... well, shock. Other things that will be around the level of tech.

Monster Parts - Monsters we kill will always yield something awesome for us to scavenge from them. A majority of our weapons will be composed by the bones/claws/teeth of monster's remains. The bigger monsters we'll kill, the most chance we'll have to improve our weapons. Probably about 75% of our weapon will be composed of monster left-overs.

We won't see any human-related magic. Any special 'skills' we'll have will be like igniting our blades on fire because we have the powerful FireBear Claws that can cause fire... Or an attachment that allows it to do that. But we won't be tossing any fireballs... but we will be capable of anime-level/FF fighting style. Jumps, flashy moves, stuff like that.

Guild
We all are a part of a Guild. If you wish to compare it to something, think Fairy Tail(because who doesn't love it?) This Guild(yet to be named; willing to hear suggestions) will be composed of all of us, and lots of secondary characters. We will take mercenary-style jobs to kill certain monsters, and maybe even battle some bad people too. We'll have lots of things to do. We'll be split into teams of around 3-4--but often, we can get together for bigger jobs, too.

We'll see some other guilds as well in the region.

We will all also have a guild brand somewhere on us.

Monsters/Races
We have humans, of course. We'll also have Demi-Humans, which will be half monster, half human. Considering this world has a wide variety of monsters(including male and female differences), the possibility for Monster/Human combos is endless. Tell me if you want to see another race in here--but the monster/human thing will pretty much cover anything from Birdy-types, to dragon-types, etc. They will be humanoid, but have characteristics of their monsters.

Let me make a note that Demi-Humans(rename forthcoming) will probably not be liked as much as humans--at least by humans. In our region, humans are the majority, but there are a lot Demi-Humans around too. They have just as many rights as humans, but again, humans scorn.

Maybe we'll see some Elves too? Thoughts?

Each race has a pro to them...

Humans are charismatic, convincing. Speech Pros.

Demi-Humans will typically be stronger, or faster than humans... but at the cost of charisma.

IF we do Elves(depending on what people say), they would be graceful, and intelligent, but also probably be arrogant pricks. You know dem elves.

Other Stuff
I'd like to keep this to around 5-8 people... These people will be free to make secondary characters. I'd like to keep the amount of people regulated.

This was a huge contribution by a lot of the members, so the idea came from a lot of us. This means you'll be guiding your character through the world in your own way. We'll have a loose plot to fill, but character development and specific character plots will be important too. Chat with me if you want a centric plot, we'll work it. We'll sort of be carrying this out in an episodic format, and everyone will have plenty of features for their characters.

We'll start with 1 character, but I'll make space for secondaries later.

Okay, so I think the first bit of input I'd give is try and keep the steam punk tech to a minimum? It adds a bit of flavour to the setting, but ultimately I think we're aiming for fantasy to be slightly higher in the influence, maybe have the cities as steampunk esk? But the wilds should be more fantasy or something.

Second, I think it would be good if the groups idea was altered slightly, this was oringally going to be a small idea if I'm not mistaken, and multiple groups of 3-4 gets a little hectic, and on that note, maybe try and keep the extra characters to a minimum. I know lots of characters can be fun and can give you lots of plot oppurtunity, but first it does get a little crazy for some people to keep up with multiple characters per person and also, it might be nice to devolep them on an individual level, then we have much more fleshed out characters fleshed out in the RP :D

As for my final comment, I'll prolly be going Bat-girl with a scythe type weapon =3

I don't really want to see elves in this. I think with the humans, monster and middle ground peeps, we have enough in that department. Also, I think the humans being charismatic, convincing and speech orientated and demi-humans being less so but stronger and faster is kinda eh. I think we should have just as many capabilities for both.

EDIT: OH and for my char, I think I want to go slug girl with some kind of ancient sniper rifle type thing.

EDITEDIT: And also, I'd like to recommend something involving the word "genome" for the title.

EDIT III: Also, could we be located in some small wildy kinda town? I think that'd be really cool.

idea time!

For the monsters, I'd give them a name aside from just 'monsters', so I decided, let's go with a little irish mythology to help out.

The monsters can be called Fomorians and for the demi-humans maybe the Tuatha perhaps? It's a nice touch and brings alot of other possibilities for naming cities and stuff.

Also, I put for the name "Clans" for what we call our teams within the guild, has a nice ring to it.

Elves I gotta say no, just don't really fit neatly with all the neat races we have already.

Tech-wise, I like a kinda no automatic fire steampunk if that makes any sense? Like, guns would be more crossbows or cannons, and there'd be gears and bombs and gunpowder, kinda legend of zelda-ish. Also steam, lots and lots of steam. Focus it mainly on the weapons, and maybe with tools or other gadgets. (hookshots, bomb traps, desert glider boats, crap like that).

As for charisma, can't say this is DnD, so I figure just have humans be smarter with their steam tech, and demi-humans more brawler-ish with tougher hides and what-not, with exceptions on both sides of course.

Also, totally wanna see something like jhen mohran make an appearence in this, maybe have the environment be arid and deserty? Or perhaps seaside and coastal if that works. I just wanna tackle something in a ship once or so.

As for characters, not much so far. My only current ideas are an old badass guy who's got Master Roshi syndrome or a scrawny kid with an oversized rocket sword he can barely use to compensate for his shortness.

I agree completely with the Lix on the tech stuff. I'm also inclined to agree with the humans 'better at tech', demi-humans better at brawl-ness, but with exceptions. It's not a straight up separation, but a slight classification. Differences are balanced, and good to kind of make each other stand out. Without those little changes, what would be the point of different races, other than looks?

Demi-humans will have some monstery qualities, in general. Like say there's a FireBear, the demi-human who is half that bear will have sharper claws that may be able to heat up, due to his half-race, thing. Not making them toweringly stronger than humans, but more of a difference. It'll depend on the race.

I agree with the Formorians for the monsters to be called. It works well.

We'll drop elves too.

As for the environment, it'll vary. Our region is pretty big, so we'll see lots of different areas. Arid, forested, coastal, really anything. And yeah, we'll have airships--or some kind of vehicle--that'll get us around, since we'll be doing a lot of traveling.

And Raz, most of the tech stays in-city, primarily. Smaller villages will have little to no Steampunk, but bigger cities might have more advancements, like elevators, or giant machines powered by steam... But the location of our Guild will be moderate; Out in the wilderness will be very fantasy... and villages(especially smaller), won't have much for tech.

Our Guild will be in a pretty simplistic place. Not a majorly big town, the guild will be the biggest part of it.
