Oh Flame, if we go for traditional WtA how in depth are we going with the character creation?

Skills and Dots level, just Clan level or we're also taking into account the Moon Phases and the birth type?

By the way, if we go for another RP, I'm still up for an eventual more traditional campaign on a different platform like discord/skype/one of those website that allow dice rolls.

*Edit*

If we play other races other than regular humans in MH, can I play an Elf-like? It's not fair Dwarves got in and Elves didn't...

Kay:

With WtA, it may be halfway. Since auspice (or other Feras' versions) was important to their interactions, those would definitely be included, along with breed (what they were born as). Including the parenthetical explanations for anyone else reading.

However, I think dots may be a bit too in-depth for a more RP forum-based thing, so I may just have people list the things their characters are good at in a more traditional way. Perhaps talents with three for whichever type of skillset they designate as primary, two for secondary, and one for tertiary.

Adapting any tabletop for a forum RP is always a bit of a fickle process as you try to decide what mechanics to include to control power levels and what to cut away for being unnecessary crunch.

To be honest about the idea of a traditional campaign, I wish I had more time to do that. But part of the reason I've been working on forum adaptions instead is the fact my current job has too unpredictable a schedule. It makes it impossible to set away a chunk of time on a regular basis for a traditional tabletop game. :<

As for other races, I'd likely include Wyverians and Lynians along with humans, but not sure if I'd allow Troverians. The reason would be that the only ones we see are in Harth and very few actually seem interested in dispersing. To be honest, the Wyverians seem to be the elf-like race of Monster Hunter, at least in my opinion.

Here soon I'll post a few more ideas I'm thinking of for these possibilities, mostly things I've been working out over the course of this thread.

Monster Hunter-

- Humans, Wyverians, and Lynians (felynes, melynxes, and possibly Shakalaka and Uruki).
- Not just hunters. Retired hunters, researchers, craftsmen, soldiers, and ect are all options.
- Minor monster taming may be a possibility, though not to the degree of MHStories.
- Set in a secluded corner of the Monster Hunter world. The Hunter’s Guild has limited to no influence there, and there are no well traveled routes.
- Group will be forced to move, either being refugees, a nomadic group, or even a caravaning circus. This allows more world interaction and possible future plot points.
-Gear will be starting and simple, new gear requiring materials from monsters or the environment.
- May include custom monsters, though the array of possibilities is still huge.

Pathfinder-

- Underwater Campaign, starting in an isolated area, homebuilt setting with similarities with Cerulean Seas, Midgard, and other published settings.
- Adapted for a forum with lessened mechanics and more RP.
- Combat will not be roll-based, though this may be changed if people are worried about imbalance or unfair fighting.
- Races will be limited to a selection at the beginning due to the starting area and story.
- Races will offer flavor perks and quirks that help differentiate them in mannerisms and style.
- Races will include some from the official Pathfinder supplements, some from the third-party published Cerulean Seas setting, and likely at least one homebrew race.
- Classes will be included and effect how characters fight and likely interact with the world. Archetypes and variations will be included.
- Classes will offer abilities, including for combat, and progress with levels.
- Levels will increase at a gradual level, often at points after certain plot points.
- Humans, at least of the traditional variety, will not exist in this campaign.

Werewolf the Apocalypse-

- As of now, still in early stages. Interest is rather low, so may be non-viable. May set it aside for another day.

Yeah, I know that Auspice and Breed were important, though at the same time that could even be a sort of turn off for some people. Not sure though if you were meaning the RP to be Wolves only or allow other Feras too.

About Monster Hunter, exactly what's your idea of Hunter?

To me the Hunter is a professional, signed up with the Hunters' Guild, who generally takes requests either from the Guild or a Village. But, by logic, shouldn't be the only kind of people able to fight off a monster.

Sure being a registered Hunter gives you some advantages, like your own houses, Felynes accepting to become your Palicos, the Cat-cart rescue while on a mission. But at the same time, there's nothing really that prevents anyone from grabbing a Longsword and swing it around, the Caravaner is a scholar and an archeologists and still sports the build and look of Joseph Joestar.

The only thing that makes me wonder, are the Hunter Arts, those maybe are something the Guild teaches only to their members. But we've played so many years without them...

I think all of these are great, but if I had to choose I'd go with the WtA setting.

No idea what Werewolf the Apocalypse is - but if I could make a cool vampire or werewolf, I'd be down for that.

I'm not familiar with the other things mentioned here, but I'd be willing to learn. I always love trying new RPs!

Kay:

I don't see it as a turn-off to include Auspice and Breed, personally. It was firmly built into the lore and effected how they often acted and were treated or seen. After all... A Metis Theurge (born from werewolves and changed during a crescent moon) would act and be received MUCH differently than a Lupus Ahroun (born from wolves and first changed during a full moon). It added a nice starting variety to characters, I felt. Similar with the other Fera's versions of Breed and Auspice.

As for my idea of a Hunter... I think there are likely more than just guild hunters. Invariably there have to be some who simply don't have access to the Guild and yet still have to defend their villages or selves. Or may even do it for necessary supplies. We see it already with things like the Monster Rider village that obviously has monster materials used in its construction, yet is said to have no contact with the guild.

That being said, you have a point. Perhaps it's better to differentiate hunters by whatever institution they may be part of. Guild Hunters, Wycademy Hunters, Village Hunters, ect.

Seeing as you learn Hunter Arts only in Bherna at the Wycademy's doorstep, perhaps it's safe to say they're the ones who have taught them. They may also have a hand in the use of more than just 'Guild Style'.

Trun:

Yay! Any questions or things you'd be interested in in particular? ^_^

Red:

Werewolf the Apocalypse was just that. It was an early tabletop RPG first published in the early 90's, and continuing in various forms till now. It was accompanied by Vampire the Masquerade, Mage the Ascension, and similar titles all technically set in the same world alongside eachother. That being said, most of the different supernatural creatures were at eachothers' throats rather than even willing to look at eachother, so that's a thing.

The premise for the basic Werewolf game was that the world was in horrific imbalance. Three primal forces often known as the Triat had more or less gone insane. The Wyld, Weaver, and Wyrm. The Wyld was primal chaos, the Weaver was the one who turned that madness into patterned order, and the Wyrm was the necessary destruction needed to avoid stagnation. At the often believed center were other spirits, such as Gaia, or basically Earth, Luna, and various other celestial bodies. But things had spun out of control after the Triat developed sentience and began struggling against eachother for dominance. This being said, this is the Werewolves' doctrine. The other Changing breeds often have stories that are anywhere from very similar to completely out there.

As it stand, the Werewolves and other Werecreatures are fighting a losing war mostly against the thoroughly insane Wyrm, as well in several cases eachother.

As for Pathfinder and Monster Hunter...

Pathfinder is a tabletop very similar to Dungeons and Dragons in style, and I'd more be making a homemade setting from its material and adapting it to a forum setup.

Monster Hunter is a very popular game, often on the 3DS, that involves what you'd suspect from the title. There are large, dangerous creatures known collectively as 'Monsters' but are more akin to... I suppose very powerful animals. The creature design is top notch, as is the armor and weapon designs. I'd highly suggest taking a look at it.

Oh shit, really? I LOVED Vampire the Masquerade. That's actually what I briefly thought of. I have never played the tabletop game, but I did play a video game of it--Bloodlines I think. It was fascinating. I don't know what it was about that game, but woo<3. I would be in love with the idea of a VtM RP, especially if it involved werewolves. I love a good story involving those awesome creatures. Even if it is overdone, it's wonderful. Especially in a modern-day setting.

Thank you for explaining those, I'll do a little more research.

I think I may start working on a Werewolf the Apocalypse pitch. Work's been stressing me out, and that would have a nice framework I could work off of.

Count me in for the WtA, just are you planning to go for wolves only or other Feras will be allowed too? (So I can go through the lore to refresh my knowledges...)
