Thought this was another worthy topic to stir up some worthy discussion; post your favorite and least favorite kinds of video games, and can explain why.

A recent favorite of mine has become fighting games, even if I'm pretty mediocre or just plain bad at them. I like playing a variety of games, however, ranging from shooters to platformers to RPGs to rhythm games. I'm also a big fan of what I guess would be called "sandbox games", like L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption.

If I had to pick a least favorite, it'd probably be RTSes. I don't like keeping track of so many units at one time and games like Civilzation or whatever bore me. Sports games are an obvious choice for "least favorite" as I have no interest in playing them, so I don't hate them so much as I am utterly indifferent to them.

RPGs are my babies, especially ones I can create my own characters in. Linear being my top choice. I love a good story, with plenty of cut-scenes. I also enjoy fighting games, which have similar features. I dunno, I'm a big stickler on having your own characters. And guitar hero is kinda fun too...

I also enjoy games like Harvest Moon, where you manage things... I guess.

'Sandbox' RPGs are sorta up there. Fun, but not my favorite, but for sure not my least.

Sports games can go die in a fire. And I agree with ya, Gasty, on RTS. They're just so much to keep track of... Though, I do have a bit of fun with city-building games, like the Sims', and their many series.

RPGs for the win. Adventure games and some platformers rock as well. Japanese games tend to be my favourites...

I don't like sandbox games... people say their upsides are the fact that "ZOMG YOU CAN DO ANYTHING". I don't want to do 'anything' I want to do 'something'.

My favorite would probably be action games. I guess hack and slash would be the appropriate title. God of War, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Phantasy Star, Vindictus, Dark Souls. I love em.

Add another to the RPG fan list. Over the shoulder shooter types are a close second. Fighting games I absolutely suck at, but I love 'em despite that little fact, and button mash my way to victory. Puzzle games are hit and miss depending on how they work, so they can be at either end of the spectrum.

Never been too big on sandboxes. GTA and all that just felt boring after 5 minutes of ramming a sedan into a footlocker. RTS I never got into, they seem to mathmatical for me to see any fun to be had in them. FPS's are another low one on the list, just not my thing for whatever reason. Standard point and click MMOs really tend to grind my gears with their skill spam and gathering quests and lack of anything resembling fun.

But my absolute most hated game type has to be those shitty app games like farmville or angry birds. Those things aren't games, they're LIES!

I'd like to say that I don't have a favourite genre, and that I just like a the games that I like, but my pile of FPS' and my pile of "other games" being the same height as each other says this isn't the case.

So yeah, I guess I like FPS the best. Of other genres, next probably comes sports games, contrastingly to the rest of you. They are certainly the second most numerous in my collection. The third being probably third person adventure games ala. Tomb Raider.

I actually don't much like RPGs, though I love Skyrim and Pokemon, these are really the only exceptions. MMO's and Dungeon crawlers are probably my least favourite, they bore me endlessly. I'm pretty much indifferent to everything else.

So yeah, I'm basically the opposite of everyone else on here, but I'm not really a hardcore gamer.

Bit late to the reply... Anyway i'm with Lix and a bit with tailer on this one, I love many games, probably hack n slash's the most.

However more than anything i enjoy a story driven game. The reasoning for this is simple. I am incredibly easily distracted, which can be a pain because i also get bored of games quickly. However What is awesome is when a game with an incredible plot can suck me in, i literally feel like part of the game, its epic!

Sadly less and less games these days do this for me, one which is fairly new-ish. Namely Alan wake, this game received a lot of mixed reviews, personally it took me two days to finish, to be honest i didn't actually notice it was 3am at one point, hell i didn't even know it was dark outside , but the point is that for me, is a great game.

There are quite a few examples i could give, DMC 1-4, but one which i absolutely must share is what i consider one of the ultimate hidden gems of gaming, well... It isn't exactly a game xD It is 5, the legacy of kain seriously i will rate this series as one of the best written series of games ever made.

From the first blood omen to defiance they are all fantastic, seriously, great story telling, heck my name came from one of the two main characters Raziel. On a side note, his voice actor is amazing, i think i may have a man crush on him. But anyway they're fantastic, excellent characters, plot and length (something missing nowadays) and even though they are on multiple consoles, they are all on window's, if you ever see any of them for a decent price, do yourself a favour, buy it.

I also like FPS's like half life or time splitters or many others and RTS like starcraft or warcraft and RPG's like Diablo, or my recent discovery torchlight (again i recommend this one to dungeon crawler lovers/anyone that liked diablo)

However there is one kind of "game" which disgusts me, sports games, in particular EA's ever successful FIFA series, which around her as soon as the next release is out's value drops to about a 1/50 of its original value, seriously, these things are £40 when they come out, a year later 50p, its disgusting to me. And anyone that tries to defend a game like FIFA will get a massive earful from me.

Wow... sorry that turned into a bit of a rant :P
