Attention, Members
Hey everyone at the Flux! We are going to be relocating our forum! Zetaboards has treated us well over the years, but we've decided that moving to another service is what is best for us now. As members, you are free to begin moving your RPs and whatever else you will want to. If you have questions or need help moving, please reach out to Red November, Shine, or Spire (you can usually find one of us down in the cbox)!

| Welcome to the Flux!
We're a single-thread RPG/Creative Writing/Arts/hang out and chat forum! We welcome anything you've got to show us, from arts, crafts, graphics, sprites, to fanfic, original stories, novels, short stories, to RPGs, or if you just want to hang out and chat with us, you're more then welcome. We offer a variety of boards across the forum, so you're sure to find a place to fit in somewhere.
More of the lurker type? I'm sure you'll find some good browsing material! But please don't be a stranger, head down to find the source of that incessant clicking: The C-box. You're sure to find someone to chat with there!
The Flux was built by a former RPG-community, so expect lots of activity there. However, after we moved on from our last site we decided to expand.
We have a helpful, dedicated staff, ready and willing to answer questions, or offer help with whatever you need, whenever you need it.
So don't be shy, come on in, introduce yourself, and become a part of our laid-back community. But don't forget to look over the rules. |

Ask if you're not clear on anything -- there are a plethora of friendly helpful people at the Help Desk, or myself, Spire or Shine, or down at the cbox. We'll help you out!
Please remember to follow Board Rules as well. Show respect to GMs and fellow players. Etc, etc.
1. GMs GMs, or 'Game Masters' are the ones who make, and run the RPGs you see here. They govern their own RP, and may run it how they see fit (as long as it's in keeping with board rules). They have the right to deny or approve anyone they decide to for their RPGs, though we do discourage biased decisions if possible, it's ultimately the GM's final call.
If a GM denies a player, that player may not harass or otherwise bug said GM to 'give them another chance' repeatedly. If this becomes an issue, GMs should seek out staff to put a stop to it.
Anyone can be a GM - yeah, that means you! So if you have an RP idea, feel free to create your own sign-up thread and get going right away! Alternatively, if you wish to discuss your idea with others or check for interest, etiher the c-box or the RP Ideas (or both!) is the place for you.
2. Literacy We don't expect absolute perfection. However, we'd like to see solid effort -- write the best you can, use browser spell checks, and glance over your grammar. It is completely understandable that errors will occur, but any chat speak, or any trolling will get you a stern talking to, or a strike for repeat offenders. A few notes...
- We like to see double spacing (Enter/return x2) after all paragraphs, regardless of length. This makes reading far easier.
- No one-liners. Give your posts some depth. We don't have a word limit, but if you want a general idea then 2-3 paragraphs is a good amount.
- Remember, every new speaker/focus shift from one character to another, should be started with a new paragraph. i.e...
- New speaker - new paragraph!
-
INCORRECT "Let's go to the lake," said Bob. Ray looked over with a frown, "Not today, Bob." --------- CORRECT "Let's go to the lake," said Bob.
Ray looked over with a frown, "Not today, Bob."
3. Character Creation Unless a GM specifically allows it, please avoid creating Mary Sues/Gary Stus. Give your character flaws, but also good points. Make them realistic and believable. If you need help creating characters, there's TONS of sites. Just google 'character creation', or some such. Ask for help from our members!
Characters thrive on development, and a majority of RPGs run on it too. If something affects a character, it's sure to cause change, or development. So develop!
4. No Power playing/God modding/Over powered characters Allow the GM to run the plot, don't take over and do whatever you want. As a general rule, we don't like to see over-powered attacks and what not being used. GMs can decide what to do in this aspect, but if it becomes a repeated problem for them, staff may get involved.
5. Bunnying Bunnying is the term used to describe 'controlling other characters that aren't your own'. Don't do this without permission from the player and/or the GM, as it belongs to the player, and is theirs. It's considered rude to do this without permissions.
GMs can do this when they see fit, but it is courteous to warn the player first.
6. Posting Players and GMs gotta post to keep the plot moving. The norm for 'skipping' players who haven't posted is 5-7 days, or longer, depending on the GM. It is their call to decide on wait time, and if they will remove them or not. Don't join RPs if you won't post. At the same time, GMs should be understanding, especially if players have IRL stuff to deal with. Try to keep it fair, and if anyone is unhappy, speak to staff!
7. Plot/Story Development Need help running an RP? Ask for it. Want some feedback on an idea you've got? Post it. We can't guarantee interest, but you will usually get some sort of (hopefully helpful) feedback.
8. Images A lot of the time, images are seen used for characters. It doesn't really matter what you use (though we tend to avoid the same/similar media, like using an image of Ash in a Pokemon RP...). Please don't port entire characters from other media, unless it's canon, of course. (Which yes, are definitely allowed.) Originality is good!
Please don't take credit for character images you didn't draw either (fanart or original).
Please upload all images onto photobucket/imageshack/or some other image-hosting site - don't direct link (display the picture on the forum/link to the image only), as it steals the other site's bandwidth. If you are found doing this (hotlinking/direct linking), you will be asked to change it.
Give credit where credit is due. Falsely claiming work as your own will result in a strike, possibly a ban.
If anyone has an issue with a displayed image on the site somewhere, feel free to PM the offender/staff, and the issue can be looked into. However, The Flux cannot be held accountable for images uploaded.
Also, chou has compiled a nice list of images for people to browse. Try to avoid use of any ORIGINAL images (non fan-art), if the artist specifically asks in the description.
List of Image Sites
Google, Photobucket, imageshack, and so on also have lots of imagery. 90% of it is falsely uploaded, but a lot of screenshots are here too.
9. Forum RPs vs Single-Thread RPs There are two types of RPs here at the Flux. We have single-thread, and we have forum.
Single thread RPs You have one IC thread, and one OOC thread. It's usually a small group, and it stays in just a single thread for the entire RP. They're simple and very easy to manage, and usually consist of only one storyline at a time.
Forum RPs These ones are like mini-fullboard RPs, or what most people are probably used to. They are created by a single GM, in lieu of an entire site. You are given one forum to do all you want with, as a GM. You can make multiple 'sub-sections', or just stick to a few threads. You can run it however you like--you will be given mod status in order to maintain your own RPs (only on your forum). As a participant, you just abide by whatever rules the GM sets up. You can find more information in this thread. This can be set up by contacting an admin.
10. Set Up and Placement Ensure that you are placing your RPs in the correct section. If you want one of the Forum RPs, refer here to make a request to have a forum created for you. If you want to stick to just a single thread, you make a sign up in the appropriate sub-forum, and the RP itself in the correct forum. You can choose from 'fandom' or 'original'.
Note that rules may be updated/changed at any time staff sees fit.
