We're a single-thread RPG/Creative Writing/Arts/hang out and chat forum! We welcome anything you've got to show us, from arts, crafts, graphics, sprites, to fanfic, original stories, novels, short stories, to RPGs, or if you just want to hang out and chat with us, you're more then welcome. We offer a variety of boards across the forum, so you're sure to find a place to fit in somewhere.

The Flux was built by a former RPG-community, so expect lots of activity there. However, after we moved on from our last site we decided to expand.

We have a helpful, dedicated staff, ready and willing to answer questions, or offer help with whatever you need, whenever you need it.

Alright, finally pulling this out to check who's interested and their questions about characters' creation before the actual sign-up.

Details about the World


Details about the Mecha and their Pilots

I think that's everything, I'd appreciate if you can drop some lines here or via PM if interested so to let me get an idea about how many and what kind of people I'll be handling. I'm warning you in advance that the plot's development going to be completely in the player's hands, so you're going to pick your poison with your own hands.

I don't know if I should add anything else, in case just ask here, via c-box or via PM.

I for one am very interested. Giant Robo love and all.

A couple of questions though.

You described the 2 cockpit systems as neuro and control. Neuro link being a mental link to the machine and control being a physical one. It stands to reason, that the neuro link would be inherently faster: Thought > Machine > Act as opposed to the control method of Thought > Body > Machine > Act.

My question is this: Would the inherent differences be touched upon in the game? Would it be a user imposed limitation or something you would set for us. Example, Neuro linkers are faster in reaction but require far more concentration to achieve results. Also carry the risk of rapid fatigue for the mind is being stressed. Whereas a controller can allow his body to subconsciously work through the movements to achieve results but is slower to respond than a neuro linker.

Would the difference in cockpits be due to that family's or that person's standing in society? Such as the higher members would use neuro links and the lower members would use controls, or vice versa. Or is it just dependent on the suit and when it was found?

Since the ability to pilot one of the machines is a genetic inheritance, it can be assumed that a previous generation of our character's family once piloted or had the ability to pilot the machine. Would this be a correct assumption?

Furthermore, would the machine then belong to the family, like an heirloom. Like grandpa's old hunting rifle or my ancestor's sword, and so forth. Or is it city/state property where the best inheritor is picked to be the pilot of the machine.

Speaking of machines, are the units light and nimble like nightmare frames from Geass? Big hulking machines of war like in Big 0 or power ranger? A combination of both like gundams. Or is it simply up to us to create that.

and that's what I'll leave it at for now. I'll ask more questions later. Maybe some will be answered with the ones above.

There will be multiple differencies between Controllers and Linkers, as you said Linkers allow for way faster reactions plot-wise is because linkers are assault units while controllers are intended to be long range artillery ones. While the mental fatigue is prevented with a limited selection of carried weapons, Linkers will be required to stick with them more than controllers. Ultimately a Linker will have the edge over a controller in a melee fight, but cards will turn on the table in case of a long range fight.

A Controller is more fit to who wants to play a 'Real' that relies on multiple weaponry both built in or attached and for players that wants to explore the details of their units. A Linker is intended for who wants to play the mecha more like a 'giant armor'. For the most I trust in you people but there will be different development branches for the two types of characters.

Correct. Pilot genes carries with the offspring with a 70% case if only one parents was, 100% if both. Some families encourage inbreeding. There is no genetic affinity between a Linker or Controller cockpit, it's a personal pick.

Depends by the place. Some city\states will allow families to keep them, others will keep them as 'everyone's property'. Remember tho that maintenaince and repairs can be performed only by the members of a specific caste and they exert the ultimate control.

The base forms back in the days were slender humanoid forms that came in a range of sizes and shapes. Extra armor or equipements could be added. Now the customizations made over the time made every unit unique, so yeah, up to you.

Five so far, and I'm allowing multiple characters for person as long you feel reasonably able to handle them.

Other people has expressed interest, I'm already taking them in account as well but prefer a confirmation on any form, anyway with this number of partecipants we can already start the Sign-up\Info topic.

Also I'm adding a little pool at the begin of the thread (If I manage to get how to do so...) feel free to express your opinion.

Considering I clicked 'Non-Vote' so I could see the results, I kinda derped myself out of being able to vote.

That being said, i'm all for magic staying and being a primary focus most of all. Kinda just reminds me more of Masoukishin that way. If not a main focus, I don't mind if it isn't featured as prominently, though i'd prefer either outcome to being dropped entirely.

I say stay and be a primary focus. Like Xi stated, reminds me Masou kishin. It'd be nice if the magic could be tied to the tech being used, an some esoteric applications like conjuring and manipulating and fighting. Kinda like how they use magic in the Strait Jacket OAVs.
