Okay, so, I do enjoy doing the occasional review sometimes. I do feel quite compelled to do this one--and it'll probably involve a rant to boot. Woot!
Olympus Has Fallen - Movie that came out recently, it's an action movie... so, of course, it was filled with action. The action was cheesy at times--it was an unlimited budget. And then of course, Gerard Butler(mygod), was the main actor. I love him--everything about him. I will not deny loving this guy in every way, shape, and form.
And he did a good job in the movie, I suppose. I prefer him in love stories though... but he can do action too.
NOW.
The basic premise of this movie... It's your standard, President under attack, save his ass film. You all have seen plenty of those. It starts off pretty simple, and stays that way as we go. Over all, the movie was predictable... but I still was a... well, I wasn't surprised by anything that happened.
If I were to take this movie and trope it out? Man. My trope-ness failed me hard, here. That movie was... basically... one big Patriotic, media-amped, RACIST, predictable, gory movie. It made the entire government seriously look like the most incompetent group in existence.
The movie starts with the secret service BREAKING protocol, because the president said so. They brought the foreign nationals that came to discuss with them, into the safety bunker. One of these guys--... Before I go further.
These guys were from North Korea.
See where this is headed?
I'm saving that for the end though--the rant part. Anyway, North Korea is evil--the movie drilled that into our heads. Shit gets serious--looks bad. The Government can't even fight their OWN weapon--and the general was a fucking moron. Of course. In short... American military is fucking moronic--and Gerard Butler was way too competent for his own good.
But that's okay, because he's sexy, and watching him blow shit up, and punch guys in the face is pretty damn awesome.
Really, that movie was visually entertaining, at best. Gerard Butler basically had a death count unmatched--probably 50-100. Everyone else in the White house, on the defensive? I think all together, 100+ men dropped 5 people. At best. And they all died.
Over all, I give it a 3/10. Gerard Butler is the only thing that made me like it. Every time I saw the 'president', I kept thinking of Two-Face from Dark Knight... The movie had a few jumpy parts--it could be suspenseful, but I knew everything that would happen. I wasn't surprised by anything... just sometimes shocked by the extensive amount of gore in the film.
Okay... now onto the fun part.
THE RANT!
We are all very well aware of the 'threat' of North Korea, lately, am I right? They got nukes, Kim Jong Il is supposedly very crazy. All that shit that you see all over the internet. In truth, I'm not immediately concerned. I'm far more concerned for school shootings--and other, real events happening right now--rather than what they might do.
Though the endless provocation the media is dishing out is not helping.
Yes, American Media is fucking moronic. I won't ever deny that, ever. We all are well aware of this--especially if you're not from America--you notice it that much more. In short, we probably would be a far better, more loving nation if it wasn't for news. Honestly. I believe without Media coverage, this country would be a lot better off.
I've noticed a trend in movies lately. Well, it's been going on forever, honestly. And it's quite ridiculous. North Koreans are bad. That's what the media is trying to push into our faces. North Korea is planning to, somehow, destroy the US with nukes. In this movie? They were going to detonate nukes all across the US, in silos, without launching them.
Evil guy of the movie? Crazy North Korean terrorist, known as Kang, who wanted to blow us all up with Nukes. His mooks? Basically, take what American Media has 'taught' us about Al Qaeda. Suicide bombers, extremely organized, wearing black hoods, carrying machine guns, dressed in civilian attire. It's basically what we're told Al Qaeda is, only Asian.
:l
This also happened in a number of other movies--Red Dawn being one of them. Originally, Red Dawn had some other villains that invaded the US. Then, this remake, from last year, had the enemies... SURPRISE, North Koreans!
It's happening way too much with action movies lately. A few years back, we weren't media-targeting North Korea, but instead, we were after Iraq/Afghanistan because of Al Qaeda/Osama, all that shit. Of course, that still lives today, because our media is racist mother fuckers.
Look at 'Avatar : The Last Air Bender'. A large problem with that movie? Everyone was changed from Asian to White--EXCEPT the bad guys--they were changed to some middle eastern, ambiguous race.
Fucking really?
I know this dates back further too. Japan has been regarded as 'evil' in some media since goddamn World War II.
Media is a ridiculous thing. They censor ridiculous things--but allow this sort of propaganda to be made? It's so blatantly offensive, moronic, and down right annoying that... I don't even feel the desire to go to action movies, ever.
I'm pretty sure that I'm going to stick to comedy. At least I can laugh at sex-related jokes and general slap stick hilarity. I get something out of those movies. I laugh, I have a good time, I leave in a good mood. Dramas? Every girl can use a good bawl session at movies, once in a while. You can't deny that. Even boys deserve it. Cartoons/Disney stuff? All those CGI films? I like feeling young sometimes, watching those. They're cute.
I LOVE movies.
Except action. Action is really gut wrenching, lately, with the overt patriotism... I mean to ridiculous extents. It's always just SO TERRIBLE when we see someone destroying/throwing aside the flag in movies. It's considered so terrible.
But by all means, please enjoy the bodies hitting the floor--EVERYWHERE.
:l
And that is my rant.
Surely you all have noticed this lately? No one would shun you for starting a discussion. Do it!

Allow me Tails but this isn't definetely anything new in american media.
Without even taking in account Caps and the Nazi (That actually was the leit motif for the birth of the series.)
I can point out that Flash Gordon's big evil guy was the Emperor Ming the Merciless. (Evil Ruler of Mongo on top of that.)
Omega Red was Soviet.
Top Gun and Firefox features the US vs the Soviet Russia and countless examples of where your country media where used to make political propaganda, last of them the series 'Homeland' where apparently an US soldier gets converted to Islam and run for president so that he could be able to plan more powerful terrorist attacks.
And on a lighter tone McFarlane and Groening involve a lot of political references in their shows.
Let's face the truth, every nation does so. Italian production fictions? Lately all of them involve priests and nuns that are 'cool', funny and completely different than how the recently surfacing scandals make them appear. (Or boobs and bottom from a famous series of Xmas movies.)
Japanese people did the same, a lot of their earlier 70s anime involved characters heroically sacrificing themselves to attune for their crimes. (Or to save everyone else) Even Matsumoto, despite not giving much political influence to his works had a series about a reborn Yamato that carried Starfighters named Zero (Most famous japanese aircraft during WWII)
It's not thing are going worse than usual, I think it's just the movie that gave you a bad aftertaste.
