So yeah, if my babbling on about it in the cbox is anything to go by, I've been taken up by the Game of Thrones series.
So far I've finished the first book and am up to date with the TV series. I just love how immersive the story is, and how most the characters seem to be fairly balanced with their virtues and flaws. I'm a bit indifferent to their eagerness to remove their clothes to satisfy 13-year old creative consultant Friedburg, but there you have it.
Does anyone else follow the TV series or read the books?

Totally thought I'd posted in this but maybe not XD I'm a big fan of the series too, have read all of the books released so far and up to date with the TV as well. I absolutely love the books, they are so well written and I'm really impressed by the attention to detail and just the... vastness of the world that Martin's created. So much of the fantasy I read creates a world and only focuses on a tiny portion of it, so his ability to have so many interweaving plotlines, which are based throughout the two continents, to make a story that's so very rich and immersive is incredible.
The characters are also fantastic (House Targaryen FTW) though I realised the other day that actually most of the male ones annoy me in one way or another XD But I find many of the women in ASOIAF really fascinating to read about.
I'm not as keen on the TV series, since they chop bits up/change things from the books so they don't make quite as much sense and also the whole nekkid thing, but I also find it quite impressive. They manage to do quite a lot with the limited resource that they have, and mostly it looks the way I pictured it to be (which I suppose is a good thing for a TV series?) I really really like the music though!
I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Season 4! Just saw a trailer for the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih3WsEKmID0

I guess the readers\watcher of that saga who usually hangs around the c-box is just the three of us.
Still I'm up to book 3 and haven't touched the series yet. Frankly though I'm seriously tempted to score myself the books in the original language as I fear italian editors may have ended up altering it a little too much, given I have lately ended up reading comments about how Martin focused too much on sex scenes, but in the end didn't found anything really 'disturbing' in my reads.
I can name a couple of moments that were a little TMI to me, but eh... Saw worse in my life.
With Shiney there on saying that House Targaryen is the best and about the female cast and how some of them are the true eminences grise behinds the scene. The saga gives also a nice social view on things, rather than focusing just on battles and politics. But sadly female cast has also my most hated character in the whole series so far. And no, isn't Cersei.
Out of curiousity: I'm the only one that thinks the Night Watch is the dumbest thing existing in Westeros barred maybe Cersei love for Jeoffrey?

Ah, cool. Yeah, I'm all caught up with the books now, and I have to say my favourite characters are probably Davos, Theon and Arya.
I can't wait for so much in the next book, it sucks waiting. So much bloody cliffhangers in the last book it's not at all fun waiting to see what happens in the Stannis vs. Ramsay battle in the North, then the battle of Meereen, then the aftermath of Varys' little stunt in King's Landing, and what's the next move of the Stark kids (including Jon, if he even makes a next move) to name just a few.
Oh and it'd be nice if Daenerys actually reaches Westeros, yeah. She should have definitely learned lessons after ruling Meereen.
As for the show, yeah, I can see how it's changed some things for the worse compared to the books. Stannis for instance, he comes across as a strange jerk in the show. However, I feel much more sympathetic to the Lannister twins in the show than I do in the books, although book Cersei is hilarious sometimes in her sheer nastiness.
Also, yeah, the sex scenes. Ye gods. Some of them are just so stupid they're funny. Samwell gets one in book 4. But for most of the time, they're not as gratuitous as they are in the show, but thankfully they ease up on that after season 1.
UPDATE:
Ooh! Here it is! Season 4 promo~!

Dunno about Daenerys reaching Westeros...
After all it would show a better inner growth if she had to stay back on Meeren and rule it. It would make the difference between the obsession of her brother and a true Queen who had found out some subjects to rule over and improve their conditions. Wont mind her visiting the continent back on a formal occasion, but again, ruling over Meeren only to gather the army to conquer back was the same thing Viserys wanted to do.
And for the differencies Series\Books the little I've heard about is kinda making the Hobbit movies sound closer to their book than the GoT series to its own. It also gave us some insight spoilers. Like:
Stuff In the books Rob's wife didn't died in the Red Wedddings, having them die that way in the series means either that the series is going to seriously deviate from the books or that Martin had already stated she's going to do nothing relevant in the next books.
By the way, Arya Stark is my favorite character so far, followed by the Onion Knight and some sympahty for Tyrion Lannister. Jaime got sorta redeemed in the books but still has to work more to have me saying I like him. Jhon Snow started nicely, but in the end turned pretty meh in my eyes. But I guess it's the whole Night Watch deal that despite sharing name with Vymes' gang doesn't share the sheer badassery.

Red Wedding Ah yeah. I think the writers of the show or Martin himself stated that Jeyne Westerling (Robb's book wife) was kind of meant to fade into the background, so they had his show wife killed just to stop people guessing that she was carrying Robb's heir and would be a part of the story again.
And as for Dany, in book 5 she learns a lot of lessons over the issues of ruling Meereen, and does a few mistakes here and there, such as which advisor to listen to, which part of Meereenese society must be favoured if she can't appease both, that sort of thing. The overall result of her rule is something that she must pay attention of if she wants to be taken seriously as Queen of Westeros in the long term.
Other than that, my theory for the next book is that Dany, Tyrion and Arya arrive one way or another in the Vale, just since Martin wants the characters to converge with each other and Sansa is pretty much the most isolated PoV character at the moment. It'd certainly ruffle Littlefinger's feathers for sure if all 3 arrive.

That season 4 trailer is wicked awesome. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with the material now :3
I don't understand all of the Jon Snow hype, but I don't mind the Night's Watch so much though. Apparently I have like the strangest taste in characters ever! My favourite character is... Catelyn (sorry q=) and also I find Cersei really fun to read about, even if she's crazy.
Something that I find a bit strange - Arya and Bran both seem to have been shipped off to places where they should be spending years in training or whatever, but things in Westeros happen pretty quickly, and I assume the Stark children have to be brought back in at some stage, so they should be coming back soon? I'm interested to see how this all plays out...
I think it would be nice for Daenerys to reach Westeros soon, just so we can actually see her interact with more of the other main characters XD

Just finished watching the first episode of season 4, and it made me really happy.
Spoilers ahoy I was not disappointed by Oberyn at all, him and Ellaria look like they'll be excellent this series.
And so many returning characters made me delighted. Bronn snarking about how many Dornishmen it takes to fuck a goat, Olenna nonchalantly throwing a gold necklace over the balcony, Margaery wondering if Joffrey would end up choosing her necklace and she'd wear one made of severed sparrow heads (complete with eyeroll), Jon Snow snarking at Janos Slynt, and I'm glad the Stark girls got some good things happen to them for a change (Sansa's was sweet and Arya's was awesome).
Oh yes, and I'm glad that the show addresses what Jaime and Brienne are going to do about Sansa. It pretty much has them looking at her, Brienne tells Jaime he must keep his word and he doesn't seem to know what to do other than snark.
Dany's scenes were a bit awkward and seem to show that her winning streak looks a bit shaky, her dragons getting wily and she's showing a weakness for Daario, but still okay.
As for Tyrion, well, he was okay. Not much of a chance to snark this time around what with his main interactions being with a pissed off Oberyn, Sansa and Shae. But there should be plenty of that later.
Oh yes, and the opening credits changed yet again. It goes King's Landing - Dragonstone (hopefully they'll be in next ep) - The Dreadfort (interesting) - Winterfell - The Wall - Meereen.

Whee, finally got around to watching the first two episodes of the season, and I love what I'm seeing so far!
S4E01 and E02 spoilers I agree with Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand looking great, Oberyn in particular looks like he was absolutely perfectly cast. Really looking forward to seeing more of these two, although wtf at the cheeky flirtatious glance between Loras and Oberyn during the purple wedding.
Speaking of, I was a bit sceptical at first glance since I thought the royal wedding would be well... quite a lot more grand than it was (in particular, I feel like it made a huge difference being outside rather than in the throne room, and I guess there was a bigger build up to it in the books as well). But seeing everyone's reactions to everything was awesome! Lena Headey as Cersei in particular impressed me with her transitions from snark/absolutely failing at diplomacy, to barely concealed amusement at Tyrion's humiliation, to panic and subsequent rage at Joffrey's death. Natalie Dormer is also wonderful in portraying Margaery.
As for the poisoning itself, I thought it seemed a bit weird with it being a necklace rather than a hairnet, but I guess it worked. Did Olenna actually remove a stone? I looked for it but didn't spot it... also I feel like she was far enough away from the cup that even with the distraction of the pigeons someone would have seen her, y'know, putting dodgy thing into Joffrey's cup.
On the rest of the episodes - loved the slightly stiff/forced conversation at Stannis' dinner table, although Selyse is soooo creepy. Not as creepy as Ramsay, though (the first scene where he was hunting the girl was horrible)...
Not sure about the new bloke playing Daario, I think the old actor looked more right, although I do like Michael Huisman, just possibly not in that role. Other than that, the acting so far has been brilliant, and I can't wait to see what comes next ^^

Whew, just finished watching Laws of Gods and Men.
Tyrion's trial was amazing. Brilliant acting from everyone involved, especially Dinklage.
Storm of Swords Spoilers For a while I was thinking that his character was too pleasant to be able to carry out the stuff he does at the end of the book, offing Shae as well as Tywin, but seeing that rage he had at that final humiliation, now I'm thinking Shae's going to go as planned.
Also, Hizdar zo Loraq is introduced, and he's actually much better than I thought he'd be going from the books. I pictured him being a snobby noble with a chip on his shoulder, but here I felt really sympathetic to what happened to him.
And Daenerys having the wind blown out of her sails and lowering the Dragon Queen Swag a bit was pretty good acting too.
Not many weak spots in this episode at all.
Show OC Stannis and Davos at the Iron Bank of Braavos was excellent too. I'm hoping that finally we'll see a change in Stannis after Davos's speech, since over one and a half seasons of him brooding at Dragonstone was getting a bit old. Hopefully he'll be the blunt, sarcastic but honest man I've come to like when he reaches the Wall.
Also, Yara Greyjoy finally reaches the Dreadfort. It was a bit rushed, but you really see how much Reek has been damaged here.
Ooh! Also, also, I've read around the internet that the show seems to be dropping more and more hints about this "Eurio" theory, that Daario is actually Euron Greyjoy.
A Feast for Crows In the last episode, Daario apparently captured 93 ships in Meereen. And in A Feast for Crows, Victarion said that Euron set sail for Essos with 93 ships of the Iron Fleet.
In the next episode preview, it looks like Daario will be leaving Meereen, asking Daenerys to do "What he does best". Possibly the show might reveal if the theory that he is Euron is true or not, seeing as in the books, one group of people saw Daario, the other group of people saw Euron, but the TV audience only sees the one person or two.
