Hyde Park, London 4:56 AM
Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.
It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.
They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
London
The next Week
"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."
(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

"Katherine Gage, you're gonna be late if you don't hurry up!" A female voice yelled as a teenage girl hopped towards the door while putting her shoes on.
"Sorry mom!" She said as she darted out the door. Glancing at her watch she noticed that the only chance she'd have to make it to school on time would be to cut through Hyde Park, well that or manage to get a ride from someone, obviously the latter was far more dangerous. A few minutes after leaving her house she found her self at the edge of the park,
it was a pretty good sized park, and her school was located just a block from the other side. However cutting across usually meant dealing with small birds, canine land mines from disrespectful owners, and well the occasional homeless person who reeked of alcohol. However it was her fastest way to school. On top of it being a short cut the trees and flowers were always a nice site, which she knew she couldn't enjoy today.
As she entered Hyde Park she had remembered her parents talking about the psycho who's been hanging out in the park killing animals, the homeless had taken to calling the psycho a monster. "Well it's not like i'm some puppy dog, and its the middle of the day so I should be safe." Kate said as she entered the park and started in the direction of her school on the other side. As she neared the center of the park a thick fog started to roll in.
"You've got to be kidding me" Kate said as the unexpected fog was thick enough to throw off her orientation and she wasn't sure which way the school was, she could barely see two feet in-front of her. So with the trees looking similar, she decided to listen to her gut, pick a direction and stick to it. "Well looks like i'll be late after all."

Howell walked through the park, unaware of his surrounding while reading a book he held in his left hand, using the right one to turn pages and occasionally adjust his glasses. As usual, his attire was composed entirely of black clothes, denim, boots, a crew shirt and a goth styled leather jacket together with the lots of silverware adorning his ear piercings gave to the young man an appearance that for sure didn't made people think he was a successful university student. Not that he cared at all about what other thought of him anyway. Living with parents like his and with hobbies like his ended up leading him to bother little to nothing about how complete strangers would judge him, sure it was going to be some trouble when time to find a job was going to come, but for now...
...for now what mattered was the book he was reading, or to be more precise re-reading, one of the works of Le Guin, something that unlike the books from where his name came from he ended up learning from a certain japanese animator works. He sighed, as so far the main character didn't seemed to look or act too much of a hero. Actually that Ged guy was being an asshole to a poor Dragon having butchered many of his eight children if not the totality of them, Howl had lost count. By this point all the hopes he had for the books to prove a little more interesting than his first read during childhood. Nonetheless Howl's inner bookworm allowed him to get involved with the read, his imagination leading him to visualize the assholish mage and the poor dragon in their adventures.
And totally ignore that he was getting stranded from the right path...
That wasn't an unusual event on its own, actually it was the reason behind his route of choice, Hyde Park was deprived of the cars that normally rode on the streets something that, everyone around him insisted upon, could easily prove fatal. What was unusual and the young man ultimately managed to realize was the thick fog all around, moreso the strange vibe it gave away. Annoyed, more than scared, Howl looked around trying to figure out in which area of the Park he had ended up this time. Figures were together with him but the atmospheric conditions prevented him to figure out the details of the others, not that he cared anyway.
"And this is the moment where the Fomoire comes out..."
He said nonchalantly displaying some fantasy geek humor.

Hyde Park, London
The form of Richard Eifman walked along, even seemed to shuffle and bob about at times in his pace. Was it early morning grogginess? Perhaps he was sick? No one could truly tell even as he brushed by others. No one really cared to check or bothered to discover what was wrong with him. Of course, was anything wrong with him when the actual culprit was simply the headphones he wore?
"They pay you almost no mind... Quite fun when you think about it." he smiled all too gleefully as he withdrew a hand from his pocket to look at himself in a handmirror. Maybe it was a fit of narcissicism, or maybe he was simply testing out the mirror he had managed to snag from a girls unsecure pocket when he bumped into her. No one was keen on saying sorry, after all, so why would he feel any keen to tell them he had just picked their pockets? "I expected nail polish stains and glitter on this... Surprised she kept it maintained." he hummed, looking the object over.
The boy was, for all intents and purposes, mostly normal. The only odd habit (if you could call it that) he possessed was an unnatural tendency to want to take things that didn't belong to him. Fortunately it was oly targetted at small or meaningless things, nothing with overly-large value. Money never even crossed his mind, though he wouldn't complain if he managed to make off with a dollar or two. Hell, that was a free snack at lunch time for him, assuming he didn't save for a rainy day. Finally looking away from the mirror, he cast a glance at the rest of his surroundings. The music in his ears continued to play until the hand in his opposite pocket clicked the pause button on the music player. The only sound he could hear all around him was the rustling of trees in slight winds. Flicking his head back slightly, the headphones slid off to hook around his neck, as he yawned. Was it just him, or was vision getting a little bit harder to maintain with the arrival of fog?
"Well now... Must've woken up more tired than I thought. Don't think this is the usual path I take to school." he mumbled, hanging his head for a moment, folding his arms to think. "Don't remember fog being so prevailent around here either... No rain..." he continued, casting a glance into the sky to check for dark clouds. There was only one thought left after those...
"... Pffthahahaha... Right, sightings of a 'monster'. Probably just drunks partying in the dead of night. Next thing you know, they're gonna come out and say they saw Bigfoot." he promptly dismissed the crazy thought, before fixing the headphones to his ears once more. However, he seemed to be a bit more... Cautious now. As a result, he opted not to click the 'Play' button and instead left it on to appear distracted. "Better hurry or i'll be late... Now which way do I go...?" the boy finished, trying to squint through the fog.

Cyr Thea presents the third novel in the escape from the Verdant Kingdom series! The flier was crumpled and tossed into a nearby trashcan. The book signing had been a success on part of her publisher, having lined up all of the fanatics that read her work. Teenagers, their bored mothers and the collegiate bunch that still had the appreciation for works of fantasy without shame. It was a rewrite of her life, the part that had made the editor she rescued one night think she was crazy. Telling him of her struggle in a world not their own, even grinning in amusement herself at how incredibly unbelievable it was. She wouldn't have believed herself.
But it somehow landed her a job when the man said that if she could write down her experience it would be a good story.
My life is a good story...
She picked up speed, the scarf whipping behind her as she stamped down her foot to make a quick point turn and kick off a nearby tree, using the momentum to help carry her up and over a dumpster once she had her bearings. Arms out, gripping the lip of the container she pushed her feet into the vertical wall and used her arms to yank herself up the rest of the way, not wanting to break her pace. It had been lidded, otherwise she wouldn't have bothered, not wanting to scuff up her clothing anymore than the sweat and dust would from the trail. A leap down later and she had hit the ground running again.
The park offered an excursion from the mass of chattering wallets back at the bookstore. Just dollars and checks as far as her publisher saw. Her story was exaggerated, rewritten. Characters had been added to make it more 'accessible' to the target audience.
At least someone finds it amusing. God the irony is not lost on me...
She passed by a man walking a trail precariously, a book in hand. He was donning all black. Either a funeral or a goth. Either way he had a book far too similar to the ones on display near her table to make her interested in drawing his attention. At least he was reading something more eloquent than her own derisive drivel. Something that didn't cater to the category of people that would gather together and discuss derivative works of their own.
Nothing wrong with being creative. Just don't do it based on the shit I write. There are much better options out there.
The path was leading toward the center of the park, slowly approached by the man with the book and...
Was he looking in a mirror at himself? She quirked a brow, making no move to get closer to the second path that lead toward the center, only taking note of someone else in her immediate surroundings.
Listening to music, and preening yourself?
She felt the urge to check her own pocket suddenly when she saw an odd smile on his face, finding her wallet and her own mirror tucked in place, along with a tube of mascara she carried. Everything was fine but she still couldn't dismiss the fact the man didn't exactly look like someone who would own a mirror.
That seem more likely for the one reading the book further back. Silver and black, groomed.
Guess it's one of those days... Least no one is looking at me. Means I can get back to the apartment, check on Veit. He's getting too big for his pot.
She slapped her hand to her forehead, then grimaced as it ground the jewelry she wore there into the skin.
Forgot to buy hamburger meat to feed him... Should head back while I still have a chance.
It was enough to break her pace, that wind on her feet that lead her ever onward, delighting in movement itself. She stopped, sighed and took out a phone from her other pocket, plotting to find the nearest grocer with little success. It wasn't a strong point for her. She'd spent nearly four years without the benefit of a phone, one of them while living in dubious circumstances while avoiding her parents.
"Alright... I'll try this the easy way. Locate grocery store." She spoke with pauses between the last three words, only to have a female voice reply with the last answer she wanted.
-I didn't catch that. Please repeat your query.-
"Find me food you simpleton" She brushed back her hair, resting her palm on her forehead as the device chirped it's reply.
-There is no restaurant with that name located within...-
She didn't bother to let it finish before she shook it violently, sparks in her eyes. This was why she felt tricked when purchasing a 'smart-phone.' She could always ask someone who lived in the area. One of those two walkers. Sighing she tried one more time, this time enunciated her words.
"Grocery store, Hyde park, find." She muttered.
The screen popped up with a message. Currently updating application... The look of defeat on her face rivaled that of her original capture so many years ago.

"Alright... I'll try this the easy way. Locate grocery store."
A voice, loud enough to distract Howl from his readings as the young man raised his head looking at the source of the sudden silence breaker. A woman, of this he seemed to be almost certain, though in modern day's London you could never tell. Too many colors on her clothes though there was a certain style behind them, like Eldar's Harlequins, one of the few escapades the fantasy geek allowed himself in the sci-fi realm, mostly because Eldar themselves had that tolkienesque vibe. He chuckled, thinking to the woman as a Great Harlequin and to himself as a Death Jester or a Solitaire, despite he still possessed a soul, or at least people never hinted at his soullessness.
"Find me food you simpleton"
She actually had even the posture of the ancient spacefaring elves, talking down on whoever was on the other side of the phone. The young man sighed, giving her another glance, wondering how the one who was receiving the call could stand to such a treatment. He hoped it was their personal way of joking, because Howl was totally unable to stand for such things only to keep a job. The woman was a rich one, maybe a stylist working for some of the noble families in Kensington giving the attire, the young man would've been amused if she was one of the british royalty but they had a strict etiquette to follow on dressin codes.
"Grocery store, Hyde park, find."
"Good grief..."
It stuck as a sudden realization, the woman was talking to the phone one of these new voice activation ones. "...get a Nokia if you can't use one." His thoughts were as natural as quick to come to his mind, luckily his lips didn't voiced them. Now he was debated between helping a complete stranger or just ignore her. Yet she was searching for groceries of all things, something upperclass people usually let underlings do on their behalf. Even more, grocery stores in Kensington were a somewhat rare sight compared to more pompous activities. Oh well, he could simply lend an helping hand every now and then.
"I'm afraid you wont find many in he surroundings." He said approaching the now apparently distressed woman. "Kensington is popular for more..." He stopped. "Let's say, fancier, shops than simply grocery stores." He shrugged, looking at the phone. "Also I've read only bad things on these voice reacting apps. Fancy gimmick but nothing that can be compared to the good old keystroking."
He had, after all, bad memories with broken touchpads after a LARP's session...

Edwin was in a bit of an unhappy mood today. It had been about a year since his last successful invention and the funding from the proceeds of that was starting to dry up. Even with toys, their popularity didn't last forever. And while his idea of making a levitating space alien was thought of as quite the fun thing, everything had to move on eventually, and it'd be expected of him to come up with something equally as interesting.
The trouble was, nothing he came up with was good enough. Edwin had been trying to move on from toys to inventing somewhat useful equipment, but everything he came up with was either already patented, obsolete or impractical. However, he was getting close to a breakthrough. A year of failures wasn't a complete disaster, he was learning from his mistakes and found that he was homing in on making something big.
And so today Edwin was making his way through Hyde Park for inspiration. He'd often come here, sometimes with a clipboard in hand to survey people on what they thought would be useful. Not today though, he wasn't feeling upbeat enough for that. And with reports of people going missing, he didn't really want to give people an excuse to think the creep behind that was him. While a man going around surveying people might not be suspicious on normal days, some gullible idiot could think that was their modus operandi and he'd be in trouble. He'd already had a close call some months ago with some stupid woman asking why he was looking at children and it took all of his wits to avoid a lynch mob from occurring, geez, not everyone watching kids play was a predator.
What was something useful that he could make for people? Edwin had thought of that question so many times that it was really annoying by this stage, but it just made him more determined for an answer. He sat on a bench, looking around at what people were doing, trying to picture how they could be improved. A lot were walking their dogs. He could invent something for dog owners? Probably not, he had never had a pet so he couldn't really think of anything. Many people were jogging, complete with branded colourful spandex outfits. Could he possibly make something for people like that? Maybe. Thoughts circled in his head. A suit with a pedometer and heart monitor attached? Possibly.
While not particularly enthusiastic about it, he wrote that idea down and then got back up, walking briskly to get into the mindset of someone exercising. They'd be looking at the view, focusing on their breathing, feeling kind of thrilled.
Eventually Edwin started to get unsettled at how quiet it was getting. He couldn't hear the cars and vehicles in the distance, nor the sound of people playing, even the animals were subdued.
He heard a few voices though, so he wasn't alone, but he slowed down and moved more cautiously forward. There was a fog gathering too, now this was weird. He would have been frightened had he not heard people talking, not saying anything particularly threatening, and the idea to turn around and go back didn't form just yet.

Eli had been restless all morning, he didn't know what it was that was eating at him or why he was so antsy. Maybe it was that random guy yesterday who had bumped into him without abologising, or that punch in the alley that had hurled an a insult at him on his way home this morning. He didn't know or care, but it was starting to drive him up a wall. He needed to work off some steam at the gym, but after his coach had given him a stern warning to get his act together he couldn't just waltz back in. He found himself staring into space for what seemed like days only to find minutes had passed, constantly tapping his finger on his desk, adjusting his posture, turning his lamp off then on again. Getting up, walking nowhere, checking the fridge even though he could name the contents from memory by now, then retreating back to his desk.
"Dammit!" he suddenly yelled to no one, slamming his fist on the desk and breaking the harsh, impermeable silence. He rose from the chair, grabbing his gym bag and walking toward the door. He had to get some fresh air, get some excersize, do something.
"Elias? Are you alright?" Came the concerned voice of his aunt, the owner of his current place of residence.
"Fine." Came the flat reply. "I'm going out for a while."
He grabbed a small jacket, then slipped out the door and started walking a little too briskly down the sidewalk. He didn't have a destination in mind, he just needed some air, some kind of action.
When he came to a bend in the road, he stopped, looking across to Hyde Park. It was a place he didn't often visit, but it had gotten a fair amount of attention lately as a few people had reportedly gone missing, as well as a few tales of monsters from the homeless inhabitants of the park. His guess was a wild animal or something had decided to make the park it's temporary home, but a few people on the news had mentioned a possible serial killer which had gotten loose in a neighboring town a few weeks back.
A smile emerged on the man's face, maybe he'd take a walk and see if this rumor held any fruit. After a quick left and right glance, Eli sprinted across the road and into the park, straying off the central path almost immediatly.
It turned out to be a bad idea, the light fog this morning was thick as mollases in these trees, he could barely tell which direction he'd entered from.
"Tch, I wanted to find a killer not end up a victim." He muttered.
There was a twig snapping, and the man was instantly in guard, he could hear footsteps now, he glanced around and saw a person, or at least their silouette. All his instincts kicked in. It was the killer, waiting in this fog for someone to wander off into the woods. Well too bad for him, he'd picked the wrong person to try and murder.
"Not today compadre!" He said, leaping after the person and tackling them to the ground, his fist raised to strike. "I've got you now killer, say your prayers!"
Eli stopped near instantly, his face turning beat red. The 'killer' he'd apprehended was a little redheaded girl, and he was seconds away from caving her face in.
He leaped off her in record time. "Oh god I'm so so sorry." He didn't make eye contact, keeping his head low and furiously repeating apology after apology.
Meanwhile "stupid stupid stupid!" kept replaying in his head.
He held out a hand to help the girl up. It was one of the few things his parents had managed to instill in the boy was a good sense of courtesy.
"I didn't mean to tackle you, I uh.... thought you might have been that serial killer from the news. I'm really really sorry about all this."

Thanks to the scarcity of lectures in her degree, Kimiko Ikeda had today off entirely. She knew that most other people were using the day off to study or socialise, but in the mood for neither, Kimiko had decided to, uncharacteristically enough, go shopping. Having been sweet talked into signing up for a formal event, Kimiko had grudgingly forced herself to go out to London today with the intention of buying a dress. The thought of spending the entire day inside various stores terrified her, but what had to be done had to be done. At least it meant that she could take a stroll through the inner city of London, a place she loved and dreamed of living in after graduation.
She reached Hyde Park, and entered, enjoying the scenery as she strolled through, the earphones nested firmly in her ears indicating that she was in no mood to interact with any other living creature on the way. So engrossed was she in the Les Miserables soundtrack that she failed to consciously notice the dense fog that had settled over Hyde Park until she was deep within it.
Kimiko frowned. Even for London weather, fog this thick was unusual. She supposed if she believed those ridiculous reports of attacks against animals occurring in Hyde Park, she might have been frightened, but for now she was merely irritated. The fog obscured so much of her vision that she was forced to relax her walking pace in order to make sure that she didn't walk into anything – or anyone.
In this fog, it was difficult to tell if she was going in the right direction, and Hyde Park was so huge that it would be easy to get lost. Kimiko sighed, mentally raising the task of getting a phone with better GPS up another notch on her to-do list. She had no wish to travel for ages in completely the wrong direction, and she'd only been in the Park once or twice before. There was nothing else for it – with no visitor maps around that she could see... she would have to ask someone.
Thankfully, it seemed that people weren't too scarce in this area of Hyde Park. She spotted one boy, looking roughly the same age as herself, headphones fixed around his ears. She paused the music, unhooking one of her own earphones as she approached him.
“Excuse me?” she asked, politely. “Do you know which way it is to Oxford Street?”

"Is it really hard to admit that i'm just lost? Perhaps... But only to myself. Then again, you rarely talk to anyone else, so would they guess you were lost or even ask? Haha, this is why you don't know anyone, Rich... Well, that and the bad habits." he mused mentally, head tilted back as he moved about slightly. Trying to get a feel for his location? Or was he just as lost in his own mind as he was out here?
"Not getting me anywhere. Might be one for mental conversation, but not if it keeps me stuck here for longer than I need. C'mon, Rich, you're prone to having fits of boundless energy. Let's put it to work and see where we go from there..." he mused with a small grin, crouching for a moment as if it would help him get his bearings anymore than normal. With the encroaching fog, it would eventually become too thick to see too far infront. A sign that he would need to pace how far he went before he stopped to feel around. However, the suddenness of a voice calling out to him jolted him, perhaps more than it should have for one with headphones on.
"Good going blowing your own cover there, Richie." he sighed mentally as he slid the headphones off, the other person likely easy to guess there was either no music coming from them, or the device had not been activated yet.
“Excuse me? Do you know which way it is to Oxford Street?”
"A girl? Are you really that cursed?" he shut his eyes in damnation for a moment, before he turned and smiled to the unknown girl. "Ah, I do actually! ... Or at least I DID... Until this fog rolled in while I was in the middle of the park." he scratched his head, looking left and right. Well, he didn't outright tell her he was lost, but perhaps she could easily pin that from how unsure he seemed. For now his eyes opened to get a better, albeit hazy, look at the girl. Wait... This wasn't the girl he'd taken the mirror from, was it!?
... No, come to think of it, he never did get a look at the one he took the item from, and given how she didn't sound like she was frantically searching... Maybe she wasn't the owner after all. Relaxing a bit more, he folded his arms. "With as bad as the fog is, we're probably better off trying to find a map board around here and using that to help us get around. There were some in the park, but I didn't think i'd need them. Never seen fog this bad..." he muttered, trailing off as he eyed it curiously.
"Aren't you afraid of it? What if there's a chance those stories about attacks against animals were true after all? What if whoever was out there decided to target humans next? You should be frightened, maybe even to the point of losing your relaxed composure... Is there any reason that you're not?" came his thoughts once more, directed to himself, as he slowly began to trek forward while beckoning with his other hand for the girl to follow. There would be no progress made just standing around talking, and the sooner they located a map, the better.
