Hyde Park, London 4:56 AM
Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.
It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.
They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
London
The next Week
"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."
(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

Watching the fight that Kimiko had, and of course Edwin's match Kate glanced at their side. The number of people left was dwindling. There was herself, and the girl who seemed way to calm when they first met the masters. In addition to that there was Richard, and Kate's 'knight' as she jokingly called the guy who had nearly pummeled her in the park.
Looking at the people on the other side of the room she tried to imagine who she'd be put up against but she couldn't get a good enough feel for their personalities- or creatures- aside from what civilization they belonged to. Though based on the first two pairings Kate figured she wouldn't be put up against a light or water specialist, but that still left three possible civilization. Not to mention that there was still a chance she could be pitted against either of the civilizations that she ruled out.
"Great Match Kimiko" Kate said truly amazed that the small fire bird Kimiko managed to defeat a larger opponent like the rapids lurker. Especially due to fire usually being rather ineffective against water.
Edwin's match however looked one sided at first, the opponent hadn't even attacked however Kate noticed around the same time as Edwin as to why. The opponent was using poison, and Edwin was using a creature made of water. The Aqua Commando fell to the poison, that round was lost the moment the poison got inside the creature. Now Edwin had one creature left up his sleeve, the fire/water creature nicknamed Jiggs.
"You can do it, just pull a win like Kimiko!"

Edwin took a moment to calm himself. Everyone was watching, and he couldn't be the first failure of the day. Come on Jiggs, he thought, let's get through this.
"Flame Vent Diver!" he called, and opened the dimensional gate once again, guiding the half-Drakon through. He jumped out and landed, spear already in his hand. To Edwin's great relief, he didn't carry on with his usual clingy antics.
"Why so serious?" he asked, giving a smartarse sort of grin.
"Just the test to pass as an Acolyte, Jiggs" Edwin replied, watching his opponent Arty's expression. He was sort of excited but calm at the same time.
"Okey-dokey" said Jiggs, looking at the monster he was to be fighting. "Yeuch, who spewed that up?"
Arty responded by directing the ooze to attack. It lunged forward with such speed it surprised Jiggs, but he was faster, leaping out of the way. The ooze shot its fanged tendrils up at him, but Jiggs swished his spear and beat them back. However, the ooze merely spawned new tendrils as it had before.
"Jiggs, you need to hit it with water!" Edwin called. "Can you do that?"
"Keh, 'can I do that' he asks..." Jiggs snickered. Edwin wished he wouldn't be this cocky. The creature jumped high in the air again, then looked downwards, and spat a jet of boiling water down at the Ooze. It emitted a high pitched screech as steam rose from it. Edwin was surprised at how effective it was.
"Ya like that?!" Jiggs shouted. Arty wasn't pleased.
"Fire back!" he ordered. And the ooze lashed violently, sending a shower of milky purple sludge at Jiggs. He couldn't dodge it all. He was splashed on his red scaled arms as he raised them to protect himself. The toxic sludge might not have been able to enter Jiggs' body as easily as it had with Ulysses, but it made his oily hide bubble as it reacted adversely. Jiggs shouted in pain.
"Wash it off!" Edwin shouted. Jiggs did so, spitting water on his arm, removing the poisons, but it left a discoloured mark. Edwin hoped that would make him more careful from here on.
Arty didn't let up. The Marrow ooze shot poison at him again. Jiggs looked for an opening and found one, avoiding this shower of toxic goo, although that brought him within range of the monster. Snapping tendrils lunged at him, but he spat boiling water on his spear and swiped at the tendril. This time, the ooze screeched again, in pain.
Edwin was impressed, Jiggs seemed to be good at improvising. He made no cocky comments this time, following up with a second hot water blast. Steam rose from the ooze as it began to wilt.
"It's not over yet!" Arty shouted, and the ooze seemed to transform as it went all out, all of its fanged tendrils lashing out at Jiggs, poison flying everywhere. The half-Drakon was a red and blue blur as he danced around them, still returning fire with scalding water whenever he could. Edwin sweated as he focused his concentration. While Jiggs could evade most of them, Edwin kept an eye out for incoming attacks at his blind spots, guiding him out of the way just in time. Some poison was unavoidable, and he could feel Jiggs hurting as it reacted with his skin, but they were almost there. The ooze was slowing in its movements. Its central body was boiling.
Finally, the ooze had enough, the boiling water overwhelming it, and it was banished. Jiggs fell to one knee, panting, but raised his spear in triumph.
"Well now, that was interesting" Arty said. "I was unaware of my creature's weakness to hot water. I will rectify that next time".
Edwin wiped the sweat off his forehead, and approached his creature. Jiggs grinned up at him, holding up a hand.
"High five?" he asked.
"...not now, Jiggs, you're covered in poison" Edwin said. "Plus the masters are watching. Let's get you home"
"Eh, fine. 'Till next time" said Jiggs, winking and Edwin returned him to his dimension in a flash of red light. Edwin hoped him being returned to the sea would wash off the rest of the toxic substance. Edwin was glad that ordeal was over, that monster was horrific.
"Good duel, Arty" he called to his opponent. Arty looked back.
"Hm, yeah" he said back.

Howell watched silently both Kimiko and Edwin fights to go on, the fatigue from his two battles finally catching upon him once the adrenaline had been finally cleansed out of his body. Cyr slowly leaving the bench didn't went unnoticed, the young man knowing she was sorta uncomfortable around Beast Kin specimen from the training session they had shared as both summoners of creatures coming from Nature's Civilization. He felt it a little strange, but during all the training period he had choosen to not inquire upon that.
The girl anyway preferred other companies...
Turning back to the fight she noticed Kimiko and Kenina being able to defeat the Rapids Lurker whose name Howl wouldn't never be able to properly spell. It was an interesting move the one Kimiko pulled and the young man was pretty impressed by how Kenina turned out of the fight pretty undamaged. Yet, Kimiko seemed to not enjoy her victory too much, her serious expression apparently wouldn't leave her visage not even to celebrate a victory. It made him wonder, about how little dedicated to the fight he would look to a so diligent student. With a sigh he decided that it was something he shouldn't think too much about and returned his attention to the next fight.
The next one was to be Edwin and his cheerful partner against someone that seemed, or wanted to look like, something like a professional hitman, a jerk or a combination of the two. His Creature seemed to fit the theme, apparently even a poisonous one on top of it. For a moment Howell wondered about the wisdom in letting such a creature being used in a test. Sure, Jiggs seemed somewhat immune to the poison and having some advantages against the opponent, but the thought of the Flame Vent Diver dodging an attack and said attack hitting on the bystanders was somewhat scary. True, everyone in the Arena knew how to raise a barrier.
But people could become distracted too...
Anyway the outcome of the battle had been decided as well, with the team composed by Edwin and Jiggs turning out as the winners. It was clear now that their opponents were going easy on them. It made sense somehow, there was no point into having them fighting the more experienced duelist. Every one of the trainee wasn't going to stand a chance if things would've gotten serious, but fighting like this the Master were getting the chance to see how everyone had managed to bond with their creatures. Surprising to see they passed me, given how Yevaud acted... Again, the young man didn't voiced his words, just raising himself and moving toward the direction Cyr had taken some moments before.
"Another battle is done, you may be the next to be called..." He warned Cyr once he reached for when she was waiting. Is voice was polite and somewhat distant. Again, he bowed his head to excuse himself and returned to the others.

Master Roscoe approached the podium, and in her familiar manner announced,
"Congratulations, Mr. Huntington. You pass," As she returned to her seat, Master Roscoe cast an eye at Master Mina. Master Mina was grinning, proud of her student Arthur.
"Arty did very well, too!" she exclaimed.
"Yes. But we knew he would- he's an accomplished Duelist already," Derrick responded, smiling despite the grumpy tone of his voice. "Gotta admit that combination of fire and water took 'im by surprise. Took me by surprise too- I don't see that everyday."
As the masters continued their conversation, Lawrence approached Katherine.
"Ms. Gage, it is your turn."
He led her out onto the field, while June brought out a young woman. The girl stood a foot taller than Katherine, had a freckled face and brown hair to match similar eyes. Her hair was kept in a ponytail, and she seemed to have a runner's build. She bowed to Katherine, and as she rose, introduced herself.
"I'm Brittany. Do your best!"
Then, Brittany adopted her summoning stance, and proceeded to move. As she did, her gauntlet flared with not one, but two colors- red and green mana swirled around her as she settled into her stance.
"Smolderhorn!," She cried out, and from a portal featuring a strange blend of Fire and Nature came the black and red creature. Steam rose from it's back, it's skin still glowing hot. It's glowing orange eyes fixed on Katherine.

"Great Match Kimiko.”
The girl acknowledged Kate's compliment with a nod, unwilling to offer much more of a response. It wasn't because she disliked Kate per se, but rather she still felt a little uncomfortable around these people who she barely knew, despite the fact that it seemed like forever since they'd been drawn together by Kaijudo.
Kimiko was impressed by the combined skill of Edwin and Jiggs as the former guided the latter to victory, making use of his dual-civilisation nature to pinpoint and strike at the enemy's weaknesses. As a Flame Vent Diver, Jiggs was half-Drakon, a family of Fire Civilsation creatures well known for their agility in battle. Kimiko toyed with her nails, idly wondering if perhaps next time she was to summon a new creature, she could ask for a Drakon. She was itching to try out more Fire creatures, and hopefully after having demonstrated her ability with Kenina, her wish might be granted.
Kate was up next, her opponent calling forth a huge, intimidating creature that seemed to be all flames and horns. Kimiko leaned forwards in her seat, eager to see how this battle would unfold. So far their trials had tested their weaknesses, and had been quite something to watch. The girl was keen to learn as much as she could while she had this opportunity to observe battles involving the more experienced and skilful adepts.
She drummed her fingers on her lap, waiting to see which creature Kate would bring out first.

With the next monster to be sent out being Edwin's Flame-Vent Diver, Richard remembered it was his first monster. It almost felt like an ace in the hole deal, saving the best for last. "Hm, maybe I should do the same... I've gotten to know Nibbles alot more than I have Boomer, even though I enjoy the company of both. Boomer is fiercer and can put a hurting on his enemies, which can possibly secure a win... Yeah, maybe i'll go with that." he thought to himself, feeling he'd finally decided on his combat strategy. Looking up, the battle would begin anew now...
Could Edwin succeed?
Quick to the offensive, Jiggs was the first to make a move at Edwin's command, assaulting the Marrow Ooze with a boiling jet of water. In retaliation, however, Jiggs had been stricken with a burst of poisonous slude from a bombardment of projectiles. Unlike his first monster, however, the poison could not spread as easily due to his more solid nature, allowing him to wash or otherwise scald the remaining bits off. Indeed a creative strategy, but the toxins still lingered in some regard... The never fought fair, and in kind, Jiggs did not let up against the Zombie creature, repeatedly pelting its body with boiling jets of water until the heated liquid seemed to dissolve and finally banish the creature. "Hm, noted... Avoid scalding water..." he mused quietly, grinning ever so slightly. Jiggs was small and nimble, which means he could move fast and attack just as quickly.
He was glad, that it was an ally and not an enemy, for he had no real strategy to oppose it. Nor was there a need to, it seemed. With Edwin's victory, Richard raised his fist and shook it forward, as if cheering for his victory, before Katherine was announced as the next to fight.
The owner of the creature who had wanted to destroy his without a second thought, due to its light influence. He frowned ever so slightly, wondering when it would make its appearance, but realized it wasn't worth dwelling on. At the time, she had no real control over her monster, and he was fortunate she paid enough attention to the spell of Banishment to remove the creature before it caused any harm. However, had enough time passed to temper its hatred? He did not know.
For now, her foe called out a Smolderhorn, which looked like a suitably imposing and powerful creature. Definitely not one he wanted to face in direct combat. A mix of Fire and Nature civilizations... An interesting combo, to say the least. "Now what will she do...?" he asked, turning his hair-hidden gaze to Kate.

"Another battle is done, you may be the next to be called..."
"Thank you for the warning..." She added, her head hanging a bit with it's painted smile. She didn't exactly sound herself but no one could truly tell with her. She prized her acting skills, letting her lips curl to a smug grin, even if she felt anything but overabundant confidence. "But I think I'll just wait here..." She spoke softly, even after Howell had returned to his seat. It wasn't in time for him to hear her, and she didn't feel like raising her voice again. She simply turned to watch Edwin get congratulated on a match won. There were cheers, and someone raised a fist.
But she felt a bit at odds. It was as if all the camaraderie from their training, the wonder of the experience had faded away into a moment of expectation and strict control. She felt the edge, it tickled in her blood and sent a shiver down her spine. I wonder who will be next... I wonder if some of us won't pass this test... I wonder if I can really control Hilfee, or if Viete will actually listen to me this time. I wonder if anyone will be watching... I hope I go last. People are bored by then so no one will care to see what I do out there.
The relationships between everyone and their beasts, the friendly banter, the cocky attitudes, the more serious-natured ones. She could feel herself sorely out of place somehow with a houseplant that didn't seem to listen to her ever, and a house-guest that only seemed interested in hunting down the former, as well as binging on popcorn and action flicks. She sighed and adjusted her gauntlet, it's appearance a bit unusual, though highly appropriate for her sense of fashion.
The sight of a Smolderhorn was oddly familiar. She could remember seeing them before. Previous duelists. It was a hard beast to handle and to control. But this Brittany seemed to know what she was doing. The others' commentary reached her sensitive ears and she could hear the speculations, the awe. The questions about what Kate would do.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, then turned back to the proving grounds to watch the inevitable melee of creatures and masters. Smolderhorn... through the looking glass?
"Funny seeing them here after having seen them in their natural habitats..." she muttered to herself quietly. "Funny indeed..."

Edwin was struggling to believe it was all over. He had passed as an Acolyte, and that was amazing.
He returned to the audience area and took a seat, adrenaline slowly being removed from his system. It was replaced with a feeling of purpose, that he had finally succeeded in something, guiding his monsters, Jiggs and Ulysses to victory. He wanted to summon them again right away to thank them, but the fight with that monster had done a number on them and they'd probably be in no position to chat right now.
So, he eased his troubles by watching the next acolyte, Katherine, attempt her test. After actually fighting a skilled person at Kaijudo, Edwin knew that it wasn't an easy task. The Smolderhorn the adept Brittany summoned looked impressive. And, Edwin noted, a dual civilization monster. After seeing the interested reaction from the audience from him summoning Jiggs, another dual elemental, Edwin was eager to see how this monster fared in Fire and Nature.

Kate smiled at her opponnent and introduced her self in return "I'm Kate" she said as she glanced at the Smolderhorn. She wanted to kick things off with Aqua Strider, but it was probably best to test the abilities of Smoldrhorn first why exhaust her self with the moody dual civilization creature.
"Aqua Strider!" She said reflectively, A portal appeared bearing both light and water insignia as Kate's first creature emerged.
"I see, I take it you summoned me to defeat that creature?" Aqua Strider questioned.
"Yes." Kate said hesitantly as Aqua strider shot forward head first towards the large creature that her opponent had summoned.
"That creature is no match for my Smolderhorn." Brittany said as the large creature charged towards Aqua strider with a simple gesture from the duelist.
Kate raised her hands to shield herself, as she did so Aqua Strider skidded to a hault and brought up his shield. Kate still had trouble taking advantage of Strider's physical traits but she was slowly learning and just hoped that the shield would hold. The Smolderhorn slammed headfirst into the shield and started to push Aqua Strider back.
"That shield won't hold forever and once it breaks your creature is done for. You should of chosen something bigger." Brittany said with an air of confidence to her voice as if she had already won.
"Hot headed fire duelist, I should of expected as much." Kate said as if she was expecting things to turn out like they had. The truth was she was surprised that Strider's shield held up, though she was still trying to figure out how she'd turn the match around Smolderhorn was large, and clearly powerful.
Kate quickly thrust her gauntlet hand forward and Aqua Strider's golden tendrils shot from behind him to the horns of the attacking creature. With a quick hand motion Aqua Strider pulled himself up onto Smolderhorn's back. "It doesn't matter if the shield breaks now. There is no way your Smolderhorn can hit my creature from this angle."
"What now Miss Katherine? How do you wish for me to proceed?" Aqua Strider was far less rash than the first time she summoned him, maybe its because she was letting him combat a fire creature. Or maybe its because he was unsure how to deal with an opponent who was much larger than himself.
"Shake him off Smolderhorn!" Brittany shouted as she made several gestures causing the creature to buck furiously trying to dismount the unwanted rider. The beast thrashed about, the gold tendrils wrapped firmly around the horns. It looked as if they were watching some crazy creature version of a Rodeo. However there wasn't any 8 second timer.
"Don't let go!" Kate called out, however it was to late, Aqua Strider's grip had slackened and he was tossed into the air. he was a sitting- well falling- duck now. Kate coudln't spot anything to have him grab onto, and the Smolderhorn was still moving erratically to prevent a mid air recovery. Frantically looking around for something to use to help Aqua Strider recover, by time she noticed a nearby pillar, Smolderhorn's head slammed into the gut of Aqua Strider tossing him through the air.
"Get up!" Kate called out to the now lifeless looking creature.
"Finish it off!" Brittany called as she motioned for the Smolderhorn to charge.

"Thank you for the warning..."
Howell had already started to move when she spoke, for a split second the young man considered the idea to turn and tell something back to her. But in the end he decided to not doing so. When he reached back for his own spot on the bench, Kate trial had already started and it wasn't going really well for her. Yet what surprised him the most, was that no one of the people with him was going to spend a word to cheer upon the girl. Everyone on his own? He guessed while keeping his eyes on what was happening during the battle.
They had told him about partnering with the Creature he summoned, that Creatures were sentient and with their own personality. And yet, the small group of them was there, looking at one of themselves fighting, without even spending a word to cheer her up. He smiled, and despite the act could've seen as an irriverence, let out a small chuckle. "All alone..." It was a whisper, too low in tune to distract Kate from her fight, but maybe the others could've heard him.
Yeah, they were all alone.
It was fun, but he felt more sense of camraderie coming from the social outcast at his favorite gaming store than amongst people that claimed to wage a secret war to keep the world safe from otherworldly creatures. It was almost silly, hilarious, to think they all had been in the same boat some time ago, risking their lives and memories, and now it was like this... Another chuckle escaped his control as he was reminded that the greatest support in dealing with his Dragon came from a tiny, blazing, bird.
Then he just acted out of instincts...
"You can do it Miss Kate..."
It wasn't really the most cheerful performance ever, not even too loud. His voice had the right tune for it to be heard by the duelist in the Arena. It was calm, collected, mostly stating a fact rather than trying to encourage. And at the same time it carried a feral tune that surprised Howell as well. A dark and wild vibe that made him wonder if handling the Mana was affecting his personality other than his skills. But it was a quick, passing, thought as his main concern was now about wishing the best of luck to Kate. Without even knowing why, he wanted for them all to pass this trial. He hoped, though, that his actions were going to ignite something either in Kate or the others.
Because otherwise, he was going to feel utterly disheartened to do anything more.
