Hyde Park, London
4:56 AM

Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.

It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.

They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

London

The next Week

"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."

(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

"Ah, I do actually! ... Or at least I DID... Until this fog rolled in while I was in the middle of the park."

Kimiko kept the polite smile on her features while the boy addressed her, noting that he seemed a little unsure himself. He appeared to be a little absent and fidgety about something, and she supposed he himself was a little lost. Not that she blamed him, with all of this fog.

He was watching her. She shifted uncomfortably, not being a fan of the gaze of strangers. "With as bad as the fog is, we're probably better off trying to find a map board around here and using that to help us get around. There were some in the park, but I didn't think I'd need them. Never seen fog this bad..."

“I did consider it, but then I realised that those things are only helpful if you already know where you are.” She shrugged, following his lead, though she couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy, trekking through the fog this thick beside some stranger, particularly in a park which had been the centre of much media attention lately thanks to the ominous events that had occurred.

Then and again, she wasn’t a pigeon or small dog, and everyone knew that monsters weren’t real. “So... do you come here a lot?” she asked, her attempt at conversation being primarily to convince herself that she wasn’t afraid, and to distract her mind from inventing monsters that didn’t exist.

“I did consider it, but then I realised that those things are only helpful if you already know where you are.”

"You'd be surprised at how easy it is for one to lose their way when an unfamiliar change is forced on them." Richard replied with half-hearted amusement as he wandered the fog with seemingly near-aimless guidance. Meanwhile, several things went through his mind. How did he percieve the girl, and how did she percieve him? It was perhaps easier for her to pin him, especially given how she even sounded alot more intelligent than the types he'd taken from. Didn't complain like a rich girl who didn't have money to throw around, didn't act snooty toward a non-richfolk like him... What did he expect of her? Were his prior encounters so hilariously skewed than the norm was far greater than he realized.

"Christ, if she could hear me now, she'd be laughing her ass off. Probably feel offended too, and then there goes another friend possibility. Alright Rich, keep your focus. I know you want to take something to keep the fun going, but you can't even see five feet infront of you right now, let alone figure out what she's packing." came the ever-common words in his mind. He paused his pace, kneeling down to get a better look at the floor around him. At the least, this path was somewhat familiar...

“So... do you come here a lot?”

"... Huh?" his thoughts were interrupted as he lifted his head to glance back toward the girl, before noyying. "Oh, yeah. It's usually a shortcut for me to get to class, or just a general hang-out point for me. I never thought to completely memorize every path incase something like this happened though." he frowned, before shaking his head. "Good news though, we're just near the middle of the park, and I know there was a map around there." he sprung up, stretching as he moved on.

"Wait, she was trying to make small talk at you, right? Isn't it normal to continue trying to talk until you find a subject you two can discuss? Even though you're not much of a talker... Think, maybe she's going to school too? She asked about Oxford Street... What did they have around there? he began to think as they attempted to continue their trek.

"Er... So what brings you through the park today? Classes, or something else?" he asked. Perhaps that question would be weird to her, especially if he told her he was on his way to class too. He didn't really have a schoolbag on him or anything... More due to his shortsightedness and leaving it in a locker before he went home the day before... Thanks to those news reports, he was probably coming off weirder than he should have.

"Good grief..."

The aside, though quiet perked Cyr's attention, getting her to look up in the direction of the voice.

"...get a Nokia if you can't use one.

"Excuse me?" She looked a bit confused, not sure what he meant by his wording until she took it's context into account. The device plainly in her hand having thwarted her wishes and desires. She couldn't see the other man anymore, the one that had been looking at himself in the mirror despite having the appearance of a humanoid sheepdog for how kept his hair was.

"I'm afraid you wont find many in he surroundings."

She rolled her eyes, muttering some unknown curse before smiling in a way that seemed to please the masses. He may have appeared to be just another fanboy but he was taking time to genuinely assist her in her issue, without looking at all surprised at who she was. She still felt the need to put on the mask and appear the ever charming author she was. She nodded along as he kept speaking, picking apart the information she needed while feeling that ache in her legs that meant she had stopped running but her will to move wasn't through with her yet.

"Kensington is popular for more..."

As he paused she looked away, hearing more footsteps, letting the smile fade into an expression of caution. Her guard heightened along with the sight of the strange mist. It was easy to put that smile back on and appear perfectly nonchalant.

"Let's say, fancier, shops than simply grocery stores."

"So... crap that yuppies buy. I gotcha yeah?" She tossed back her head, parting the wavy bangs like a veil that fell back into place almost exactly where they had been.

"Also I've read only bad things on these voice reacting apps. Fancy gimmick but nothing that can be compared to the good old keystroking."

"Honestly, I'd rather have a map. Can't go wrong with real honest to gods paper. Y'know, doesn't have to update and screw your day over by runnin' outta battery." Her accent slipped more toward something entirely lacking in elegance. More akin to the way an uneducated vagrant would talk when roughing up a tourist for free money.

"Don't want to take too much of your time, s'not exactly my thing hangin' around in parks talkin' t strangers. No offense." It wasn't perhaps the most polite thing to say but the appearance of the fog left her losing some of her composure. It didn't feel warm or cold. It felt... like it was hiding something.

Why the heck do I feel like that? It's just the weather right? Blue skies... This isn't weather, this isn't some guy out there givin' a magic show with a box of dried ice. Unless this guy here was planning something on me?

She slanted a brow, squinting one eye as a man with a clipboard showed up, the previously unseen Edwin joining their group. Accomplice? No... I'm getting paranoid here. Though it ain' like I haven't been attacked before by a crazed fanboy. Just that they usually don't look so calm.

She smiled and waved quietly, hoping the other would introduce himself as she felt her adrenaline start to dump. "Lemme guess, you two don't know each-other?" She asked bluntly, wanting to get rid of one nagging thought.

"Not today compadre!" He said, leaping after the person and tackling them to the ground, his fist raised to strike. "I've got you now killer, say your prayers!"

Kate was only trying to get her bearings when she heard a male voice shout at her, and promptly knock her to the ground, fist ready to slam into her face. Luckily the assailant stopped, and oddly enough turned a bright shade of red. Within seconds of realizing what he done he was up on his feet and was repeatedly apologizing.

"I didn't mean to tackle you, I uh.... thought you might have been that serial killer from the news. I'm really really sorry about all this."

He had extended his hand to her and she gratefully took it and got to her feet. "Its fine, well unless you are secretly the serial killer." She chuckled a bit, if he was the animal killing psychopath, he was much nicer then she would of expected.

Kate considered asking the stranger if he knew the best way to get out of the park. However the fact that he attacked her because of the fog, chances are the answer would be no. "Umm, I guess we should probably try to find our way out of this fog." she said figuring sticking with someone would probably lessen the chances of another such incident.

"So... crap that yuppies buy. I gotcha yeah?"

"Not quite, mostly expensive places like restaurants, jewelries, everything people with money can afford to enjoy." He shrugged his shoulders, if she was as rich as she looked it wouldn't be a problem if not that... "If you look for genuine groceries, like raw meat, vegetables and stuff like that, I fear that it will be hard to locate them." He stopped for a second, pondering. "If they still exist at all in Kensington, that's it." After all, maybe once these shops existed. In a time when Malls weren't as popular.

"Honestly, I'd rather have a map. Can't go wrong with real honest to gods paper. Y'know, doesn't have to update and screw your day over by runnin' outta battery."

"Oh, there's the occasional tourist ripping shop here and there." Howl said with a shrug. "I'm pretty sure they sell your maps as well, but I doubt anyone bothers anymore about keeping them updated with anything more than historycal places and government buildings. And maybe, I'd say maybe, long term attractions." Even the city was ever-shifting in the modern days and age, the passage to digital was a truly needed one if people wanted to keep score to where was everything. "Good luck to find one so detailed and accurate that includes shops. You know, with the Euro-Crisis activities get closed on a daily basis." Another pause, this time he took it to reflect. "Well, we get better than countries like Italy or Greece, but still affects us."

"Don't want to take too much of your time, s'not exactly my thing hangin' around in parks talkin' t strangers. No offense."

The young man actually took offense. And no little of it, considered he had been genuinely trying to help her. "Then I'd leave you at your quest." He said with a cold voice and hardened features on his visage. He didn't wished her either good luck on her search or a good day, his voice switching formal.

"Lemme guess, you two don't know each-other?"

Howl considered if to reply or not. He decided for the latter, bowing politely his head to the newcomer and then turning his back on the woman, starting to walk away toward the mist. The stranger had soured his mood enough for him to not even bother about warning the newcomer he was going to deal with an arrogant and unpleasant fellow.

As so, roughly a half-dozen lives woke themselves up on a dreary London morning. This motley crew found themselves drawn- perhaps by chance, perhaps by fate. Likely by both - to Hyde park. They began to congregate in three locations - two pairs, and a trio. Each group was shrouded by an ever-thickening fog. Cold, mechanical eyes observed these groups dispassionately.

The Stalker Sphere's attentions were each drawn to a far more interesting target after a moment- that of a large Creature moving towards the humans. Their vision was shared by a distant companion. Shortly thereafter, three figures began moving quickly through the fog.

*~*~*~*

Three Red-Eye Scorpions had made their way to the material world, and one was converging on each group of humans.

The first to reveal itself was to a pair that had recently clashed- the noise of the male nearly pummeling the red-haired girl had drawn it's attention. The creature jumped down from a tree it had been in, and threatened the two.

The second to do so approached the nonchalant girl and the boy who had stolen a mirror. Or perhaps he had merely borrowed it- the Scorpion cared not. Their insistence on standing in plain sight - to it's special eyes - was enough to warrant a meal. It approached from the mist, scurrying towards them with urgency.

The third and final Red-Eye leapt towards a trio. The trio seemed to be having a difficult time communicating - no doubt a side-effect of the fog - and had quickly grown defensive. Their defensive attitudes mattered not to the Scorpion, who hissed at them to make it's presence known.

(OOC: Ok, you all have to put aside your differences and run! The scorpions are coming after you, and will try to gobble you up if they catch you. One way or the other, you will be corralled in one central location in the midst of some trees. Then, the Masters will make their grand entrance!)

How long had they been lost? How long had the girl been following him? Did she still trust him by this point, or did she begin to believe he was getting her more lost than she wanted to be? These thoughts and more crossed into Richards' mind as he stumbled through the fog. It felt almost like a game by this point, to the point where he half-expected to come across a dead body strung upside down on a telephone pole or something. "But that would be silly." he mentally reassured himself.

Perhaps it was a good thing that they traveled on a more solid path, for after some time had passed, the snapping of a twig immediately caused him to stop and look down. There was nothing underfoot of him... Turning to look towards the girl, he bounded toward her quickly, whether it spooked her or not, to look around her feet. As far as he could see, there were no twigs either... Leaves still rustled around them, but that was possibly more due to slight winds blowing in the area. The only thing that could tell them they weren't along was-

*Snap* *snap* *SNAP*

-the repeated snapping of twigs... Now Richard stood up, looking around. "I know I spooked you there, but it was for a good reason. Tell me, if you knew we weren't alone out here, how fast do you think you could run?" he asked, trying not to sound worried or panicking. Though he came off calm, he was still on alert. "Before you ask me why, I don't think we're alone out here... Someone's coming this way." he added, finally settling his gaze on the direction the snapping was loudest... And still growing in volume. Either someone as blindly running through the forest and would chance upon them, or someone KNEW where they were at, and it would be time to run.

In time, a figure began to appear from the thick fog as Rich tried swinging his arm back to get her to move. The most bizarre thing about it was that... It didn't LOOK human as it moved through the fog. And those sounds... Clacking sounds and odd screeches... It was some sort-of creature? Within a few more moments, it finally made itself apparent, with Rich still moving back from it. "... The heck? Huh... Is that our science departments' latest fair project? They're starting to outdo themselves, but I don't think here and now was the best time for a test run..." he sighed, seeming to relax for a moment.

After all, there was no such thing as monsters, right?

Howl was just starting to move away as something caught in attention, at first anger not really helping him to realize the red dots at unusual height kinda resembling eyes looking at him through the fog were, well, red dots at unusual height kinda resembling eyes looking at him through the fog. And how such a thing didn't really belonged to the realm of common things to be seen in Hyde Park. He was distracted and was only when stepping a little closer to the aforementioned red dots that he noticed they were actually eyes and attached to the discutibly majestic and definetely not reassuring frame of what seemed to be a giant scorpion, keywords being giant and scorpion.

Howl didn't panicked, for unnatural that the sight looked to him he managed to keep his sanity rather than going down in a shivering poddle of ranting man like he had read in many of the Lovecraft novels about how such horrors where able to destroy a man's sanity through the simple showing of their hideous and against all common sense appearance. Had it been thanks to his readings or the miracles brought upon his generation by computer graphics and special effects, but the sight didn't looked too alien for him. A stray thought about a certain episode of a series where fairy tales girl kicked monster's asses crossed his mind, too fast and too randomic to steal a chuckle from him but still.

That DID NOT meant though that our dearest wasn't scared to death.

It was a giant scorpion in front of him, and his knowledge about such a creature came only from Literature and Roleplays. And sadly he was well aware that he was not a mage or a warrior or any of the classes and jobs he liked to play. Despite the badass character his name had inspired his parents when he had been given birth Howell wasn't even a book hero. If he had to put his feelings into light terms, it was the utter realization he was your average Level-0 Commoner or random guy that had to die in a book for the sake of creating the right mood in the reader's mind. He instinctively took a few quick steps back to get his distance as he looked back to the pair he was about to left behind. For unpolite as the woman had been, death by Giant Scorpion wasn't really the best way for karma to retaliate.

"FLY, YOU FOOLS!"

To be fairly honest, it did brought questionable luck to Gandalf. True he switched from being the Gray to the White, yet involved a death experience and a long battle alone against the Barlog. To be even more honest, Howl lacked the dignified appearance and the regal posture of he Istari doing so, and he knew pretty well he lacked his inner fire too. Yet as time slowed and he started running away from the dangerous being, holding his book close to the chest, he REALLY wished he had it.

It was silly, had been him risking to die horribly he would've been smiling now. The worlds his parents raised him with, worlds of monsters, heroes and fairy creatures had come to visit the one where he lived every day of his life. In his childhood stories heroes stood to fight them, as a child he admired them, wished to be one, and now reality had him running away from the horrible beast, holding one of such parts of his upbringing close to his chest, able only to warn the others but not wanting to concede anything to the beast, neither the lives of the strangers or the book about Ged. Sadness almost managed to overcome fear as he crossed Cyr and Edwin, storming through them and hoping they would heed his advice.

"I'm scared, scared, scared..." He couldn't deny his conditions to himself, he wasn't such an hypocrite. "...and yet I hate being so scared." The young man didn't even knew why he did it, he didn't even realized as he held the book with only one hand to kinda crouch, getting a pebble and spinning to toss it at the beast in the most clumsly and grace lacking movement he could perform. He almost fell and realized in horror what stupid thing he had done, the consequences of the scorpion angering toward him or getting hurt had he fallen bad. And yet he had heroes in his heart, holding some of them right in his hands. He was not going to disgrace them...

"Fuck you, arthropod freak!" His mind couldn't help about that. "I'm not just running away from you!" He felt a little better, having sated some pride he was unknow being around before running like a madman.

The mist had already tipped her off something shady was going down. And the two, no three men in the park she had seen in a normally scarce part. But when the eyes showed up, and the sound like metal grating on metal.

Scorpion... wait, what the...?

It was something she had seen before she swore. Something that belonged to the world that she kept trying to convince herself was all just a delusion of her active imagination. But it would never erase over a year of memories. It had all followed her again. Was it here to take her back? Drag her back to that place...

"Pardon me but I think it's time we ran like hell.," Her lips curled to an awkward grin, her foot turning, pivoting to about face away from the monster. The others would have to trust her, or whatever instincts of survival they had to carry them to freedom. If they split up someone would die, it was obvious. But she just knew it would follow her. Something in it's eyes, ascribing malevolence that didn't perhaps even fit in such a creature's mind. But she still felt the fear, and the bile in the back of her throat as she dashed ahead, only looking back to hear-

"FLY, YOU FOOLS!"

She turned around to see the man from before. the one that had confused her when he walked away. It had at least proven he wasn't related to the misinformation she'd heard about the park. Part of her sighed on the inside, remembering that just because they were males, didn't mean they weren't just as sensitive as women were to being curt. She didn't have any ill wishes or judgement about anyone anymore. It was clear what the culprit was. But now... what exactly was he doing?

A rock? She watched Howell throw something at the creature. It probably wouldn't deter it from it's current path of carnage, though it might draw it's attention away. Might though...

"I suggest you start running before he comprehends what you just did. There -is- a slim chance of rescue." She smiled nervously as she jogged in place a moment, then motioned ahead, picking up her pace. She yelled back, "If not, was interesting running with you!"

Please don't let the last thing I see be my own mangled carcass... that's just squicky...

Edwin blinked as a face appeared from the direction of the voices he had been hearing. And she looked pretty normal so he didn't think much of it. She asked him if he knew the other person. Edwin looked, and saw yet another face.

"No, not really" he said, when he was sure he had not met this other person before. "Sorry, were you expecting someone else?" he asked, rather confused now. Was it to do with this sudden fog? If it was, and this fog turned out to be something beyond the natural, well, he was curious enough to want to know what was up.

The other two then both looked at something. Edwin glanced and dropped his clipboard. He was very sure that a large shadow with glowing red eyes was bad news. It was approaching, and had a silhouette of a giant scorpion. The only thing that went through his mind right now was "Nope".

"Fly You Fools!" was spoken by the other man. Edwin turned and ran. He heard the clatter of rocks on a hard carapace behind him, one of them was brave enough to do that. He certainly wasn't though, this was the last thing that he was expecting. So this is what the stories about people going missing in Hyde Park was all about? It wasn't some serial killer but a very real, very dangerous giant monster. Edwin tried to focus everything he could on running from the scorpion, not wanting to know exactly how fast it could run, but between steps, he had a good feeling that if he got out of this alive, he'd make sure this chance wouldn't be wasted. Underneath the layer of primal panic was the blossoming of inspiration he had been waiting for all this time.
