Hyde Park, London 4:56 AM
Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.
It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.
They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
London
The next Week
"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."
(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

*SNAP*
The sound of a twig crunching shattered the silence, startling Kimiko, and she instinctively froze, glancing at the ground. The path beneath her feet was clear; the boy must have been the source of the noise. A sudden movement in the side of her vision made her scramble backwards, and looking up she saw the boy rushing towards her.
She twisted away quickly, her heart beating fast. Did he mean her ill after all? But instead of shifting to attack her, the boy simply stared at the ground where she had stood. Alert in case he should try something, Kimiko watched him cautiously. This boy seemed quite strange, unlike any other she'd met before. Perhaps he had some kind of health condition impairing his social ability after all; the random rudeness of his actions, the way he spoke, the intent stares... something was a little off about this one.
The sounds of more twigs snapping caused Kimiko to inspect their surroundings, temporarily forgetting the boy's oddness. Either her senses were deceiving her, or... something was approaching them.
"I know I spooked you there, but it was for a good reason.” Even in the current situation, Kimiko had to swallow a hysterical laugh. Good reason? He had some explaining to do. “Tell me, if you knew we weren't alone out here, how fast do you think you could run?"
“Faster than you,” she said flatly, her guard raised up high against the boy.
"Before you ask me why, I don't think we're alone out here... Someone's coming this way."
The twigs were cracking more frequently and louder. As the boy turned to face the direction of the thing that was approaching, so too did Kimiko. She gasped as the outline of a shadow appeared in the mist, a shadow that was too big, had far too many arms, and glowing ruby orbs where its eyes ought to be.
The boy flung out his arms in a protective gesture, but Kimiko remained where she was, disbelieving. Whatever that thing was, could he really hope to drive it away? Her distrust had evaporated – against the terror of the unknown, another human being was a welcome companion. The large scorpion stepped fully into view, screeching and clacking horribly, and making up Kimiko's mind for her.
"... The heck? Huh... Is that our science departments' latest fair project? They're starting to outdo themselves, but I don't think here and now was the best time for a test run..."
“Speaking of running.” Kimiko grabbed his hand, and ran.

“Faster than you,”
"Heheh... It's probably a good thing then. Keep that thought in mind." Richard spoke easily, the annoyance in her tone going over his head, or maybe he chose to disregard it. After all, she had a right to be annoyed with him for doing that so suddenly.
He knew it well in his mind, his social skills were absolutely terrible. He wouldn't pick fights with others or get angry for anything, but doing the unpredictable and taking things from others that didn't belong to him didn't exactly fly well with anyone either. "Heh... You're a wreck, Richie. Is it really any wonder why you can't even make friends when your method for doing it pushes people away in the first place?" he questioned himself. It wasn't important at the current time, but he felt it meant the difference between this girl trusting him and regarding him no stranger than the thing infront of them.
To the boy, it seemed animatronic in design. Something even the science department could make with enough time and effort. The girl, however, saw something much more sinister. Fear continued to grip her while the boy was left clueless to what was really going on. Was something really so wrong with him that he felt little fear from this. "Wonder how it's being controlled..." he trailed off, preparing to take a step toward the 'puppet', before another hand siezed his own, prompting him to look down. "Huh?"
“Speaking of running.”
"W-wait...!" Richard yelped, turning himself quickly to be able to keep up with the girl rather than cause her to pull him off-balance and send them both tumbling. He spared one last glance back at the machine, or what he assumed was a machine, before shaking his head. "Did you think that was a monster or something? But those don't exist..." he breathed out, beginning to get himself into his usual running routine to keep pace with her. Still, he couldn't help but look at her oddly. Why pull him away to run? Wouldn't it have been easier to just tell him?
"I thought I was weird... Hrm... Oh! Maybe she's starting to see me as a friend? ... No, she's probably still spooked by the machine to think anything off it... If that thing was a monster, maybe she dragged me along to- Wait, that wouldn't even make any sense, just leave me there in the first place. Not much else to think except..." he trailed off, casting one last glance at the girl, before he smiled. "Just didn't want someone to die for her leaving them. Sounds about the most rational reason I can think of." he assured himself mentally, before keeping his eyes forward.
After all, they were still running blind through the fog. Nothing short of quick reflexes would keep them from crashing into anything. As they moved, however, they could still hear it: The dull screeches and clacking of claws against pavement. It was chasing them down now.

Eli sighed when the girl took his hand, she seemed a little shaken up but otherwise fine, and hopefully she wasn't mad at him.
"Its fine, well unless you are secretly the serial killer."
"No no no!" He waved his hands defensively. "Only thing I've been killing is time."
"Umm, I guess we should probably try to find our way out of this fog."
"Yeah.." He said, looking around. "Well, the park isn't too big, if we just go straight we should find the edge soon enough."
Eli took a step forward before he heard a hiss, instinctively jumping back since he knew how dangerous snakes could be, he found nothing at his feet. Instead his eyes rose, following the sound to see a single glowing red eye peering at him through the mist.
The creature approached, moving from the shade into full view. It's body resembled that of a scorpion, although clearly far, far larger.
"W-w-w-w-what the FUCK is that thing!" He yelled, scrambling backward and throwing his fists up on instinct. reason took over shorttly after, letting him know that trying to punch the giant scorpion hellspawn was probably not the brightest of ideas.
"Tch, fuck this!" He turned to flee, getting two steps before he skidded to a stop. He couldn't just leave the girl there, that thing would probably kill her, or eat her, or both. Dammit, why did he have to be so courteous!
"Hold on tight!" He said, grabbing the girl and lifting her up as he took off at top speed. He didn't plan on being some freakish nightmare beasts breakfast today.

Kate had heard the cracking of branches and simply assumed it to be more people lost in the fog, however that's when it came into view. It being some massive scorpion with glowing red eyes. Something told her it was not an indigenous species. "W-w-w-w-what the FUCK is that thing!"
The guy was clearly startled of course so was Kate, the creature before them would of caused anyone to freak out. Though Kate was freaking out for two reasons. Reason one, the scorpion might just be whatever was killing the animals, and now it had set its eyes on her. Reason two, the scorpion was clearly unnatural- well she had never heard of any scorpion species that were human sized or larger.
"Hold on tight!"
"Wait a second. What do you think..." Kate didn't really have a chance to finish as she was grabbed by the guy and lifted off her feet before he started to make a run for it. She was a little surprised by his actions most people would of probably just shouted RUN! and then taken off. You just have to be faster than the person behind you after all.
"You know, nobody is gonna believe us about the giant scorpion right? Well except for the homeless people, and probably everyone in the loony bin." Kate said as she glanced back at the creature that was still following them.

She could hear voices. The scorpions were all coming together from the way the thrashing and snapping came through the park. Surrounded? No... not quite. You gotta keep going, but you've got people with you too. Ugh...
"Mr. Howell, you gotta get your ass in gear! I don't think these things will stop for anything. And distractions only piss them off more!" She grinned, looking a bit crazed as she slowed her pace and let Edwin pass in front of her. Watching someone die in a messy pair of mandibles would not do well with her current memories of the other world. She didn't reeeeeally need to add more lovely examples of nature versus 'food'.
"Hey you." She spoke to Edwin, smiling faintly. Try to keep a brave face and maybe he'll think there's hope! Yeah... good going there. "We're all gonna be just fine." she pushed forth her best selling grin.
We're all gonna die..!
Soon enough, despite the fog she could hear more voices. Two women, two men? The first to bump into them, a young Japanese girl and a rather shaggy haired man. Princess? She shook her head, trying to drop the first word that had come to mind when she saw the man looking into the mirror, seemingly admiring himself. Well he and his girlfriend were alive, but also in the same dire situation as everyone else.
She just kept running, looking back for Howell and Edwin, making sure the girl and the man kept pace with them as well. But something came from the corner of her eye and she couldn't help but squint, then wrinkle her nose at the modern display of caveman etiquette. There was a man running at full tilt with a woman slung over his shoulder.
"Wait a second. What do you think..."
Well... Most of the time when they throw you over their shoulders and drag you off, little actual thinking is involved...
"You know, nobody is gonna believe us about the giant scorpion right? Well except for the homeless people, and probably everyone in the loony bin."
"Nah, homeless people are definitely going to call you crazy! But hey... at least we have enough people to form a club... or some sort of team sport in our therapy group." She shouted toward Eli as Kate dangled over his shoulder.

"I suggest you start running before he comprehends what you just did. There -is- a slim chance of rescue. If not, was interesting running with you!"
"Bobbies do not carry guns with them..." Howl said as he started to run away from the scorpion, still holding the book with the old pastel-like cover in his arms, something he felt important enough to not be dropped so easily. Her words about rescue marked her for a foreign, probably an american giving how people in that country expected their military to carry the biggest guns. He felt a little bad for carrying the bad news, but maybe the woman was referring to the military stationed to guard Kensigton Palace that was actually close by. To be fair the young man didn't remembered well if there were actually military on guard duty, but he knew that some members of the Royal Family used to spend time there. It was indeed a -slight- chance.
"Mr. Howell, you gotta get your ass in gear! I don't think these things will stop for anything. And distractions only piss them off more!"
She called him MISTER? While she even looked older than him? That woman was a weird one, first bluntly telling him she wasn't interested in talking with strangers and then using too many formalities. Something deep inside the young man told him that there was some karmic resonance between her overly complicated cellphone and her behaviour. Nonetheless she was right about the things seeming about not planning to stop for anything and yet...
"Still I wanted to fight back somewhat before running for my life..." He muttered trying to save his breath for the run. To his roleplayer mind though something started to define. The Scorpions seemed to lack or not wanting to use any form of ranged attacks like poison needles or poison streams. It meant that as long they could keep the distance the scorpions could do little to nothing to them. True it was most likely that the humans would exhaust their stamina before the giant beasts but still things started to look a little brighter. Then new rumors started to be audible near them.
And he saw it...
"Wait a second. What do you think..."
"You know, nobody is gonna believe us about the giant scorpion right? Well except for the homeless people, and probably everyone in the loony bin."
Was that guy pulling a Conan? Howl was pretty surprised to see that happening, even without taking into account the current day and age morality standards, the man had to be pretty strong to carry the woman like that. Even if there was a certain age difference, to run with such a speed and such a load on his shoulders was no minor feat. He was going to reply to the woman about how the man seemed to be planning about claiming her unwilling virtue but then the male spoke about giant scorpions.
And things took a turn for the worse.
"Nah, homeless people are definitely going to call you crazy! But hey... at least we have enough people to form a club... or some sort of team sport in our therapy group."
"I'm not a genius at math, but I fear we have enough scorpions to make an intersecting out of the lines made by their advance paths." It was a nerdy thing to say and he prolly worded it badly, but again Math had always been his arch-enemy. "Get that as 'there's two of them!'.." He felt to point out. "And I dont know many sports that allows mixed teams, but feel free to hit me if you guys want to revive the experience in a role playing game..."

Each of the groups found themselves hounded by the monsters, driven further and further into the park. They had even begun to group up- moving towards the sounds of each other's flight. Soon, they would find themselves surrounded. Three of the Red-Eye Scorpions surrounded them, hissing and menacing. They hadn't begun advancing yet, and seemed to be communicating amongst themselves. Clacking mandibles, peculiar twitches of the head and neck, and even rhythmic blinks of the eyes seemed to take part in the conversation.
The conversation only lasted for a minute at most. At that point, one of the creatures advanced - this one was slightly bigger than the others, and had been going after the trio of humans from the outset. It's jaws began to slaver as it saw it's meal becoming a near certainty - until a young man's voice cut through the sound.
"Oi! Get down, will ya? Hydrus, get 'em!"
The distinctly irish voice's command was followed by a gout of water splashing into one of the smaller creatures, followed by something truly bizzare. A man made of...water flew out of the fog, luminescent lights on his skin pulsing with an even keel. It raked it's anchor-like blades across the face of the Scorpion, before dashing to the next. In short order, the three were wholly engaged with the creature.
That was when two figures ran into the clearing from the fog. The first was a young man with a shock of red hair - and by his cursing was the irishman from before. The other one was a young woman, with tattoos, piercings and a shock of pink hair. Her eyes were set on the scorpions. She stopped running once she got all three in her sights, and adopted a strange stance.
"Red-Eye Scorpions, Begone!" She shouted, performing a strange set of maneuvers. As she finalized the action, her shadow shot out from under her, branching into three lines. Each line joined up with the shadows of the scorpions, before violently erupting from underneath them. The tendrils of inky darkness wrapped around the struggling creatures, dragging them into an unseen pit beneath. In a few moments, the creatures were gone - and the fog began to disperse.
"Ah, we had some locals," The girl says, her australian accent becoming clear. "Anyone hurt?"
"Oh, bloody hell. I'll get the Cyber Viruses." The man grunted upon seeing the group. The strange knight figure flew to his side, and proceeded to float there, mid-air.

As the groups clustered closer together, the inevitable result of being surrounded by so many monsters that seemed to espouse certain doom, Cyr found herself facing something too familiar for her own liking. That feeling of being helpless gnawed at her gut. This was why she tended to avoid the temple despite the fact she was still welcome there. It was an awkward issue, she was an awkward case. As long as she didn't try to give away real secrets and locations, her 'fiction' was tolerable. In fact, it even helped shed doubt on the existence of such a world.
But that world had chewed her up and spat her out. She could barely tolerate the times she needed to use her parents old rooms for safety. The temple would always be a home away from home, but she hadn't been done running away yet. I think now would be a good time if any...
"Oi! Get down, will ya? Hydrus, get 'em!"
A sigh of relief, and exasperation came as she dropped to her knees, her hair fluttering down softly, along with her scarf. Is it bad if I was enjoying the run? Eh.. that's crazy talk. She saw the two figures, whether they were familiar or not, she couldn't tell. But the voices seemed to resonate somehow, things heard in the background as a small girl hid behind her father's legs. Things she didn't need to know anything about. All she was required to do was be happy, play, do her schoolwork... and NEVER wander off on her own.
She shook her head, dismissing her childhood.
"Red-Eye Scorpions, Begone!"
This had been an aspect of her parent's job. Nothing quite this marvelous but sending back weaker creatures of Nature. She'd seen it done once but it wasn't anything they wanted to expose her to again. So I ended up sheltered and probably a bit nuts from that. Good thing I got straightened out!' She smirked at the irony.
"Ah, we had some locals. Anyone hurt?"
"My pride tingles a bit..." she groused amusedly. "And I think I may have a run in my scarf." Act competely natural Cyr. None of this is that new to you. You think...
"Oh, bloody hell. I'll get the Cyber Viruses."
"Those give group discounts now?" she smirked, saying it quietly enough it would be doubtful anyone heard her. And if their memories were going to be erased, why not have a little bit of fun anyways. Finally sitting back on the grass, one leg hooked over the other as she folded her arms behind her head.

"Oi! Get down, will ya? Hydrus, get 'em!"
There was something that LARPing with his own group had teached Howl and it was that when someone said get down it meant that some not properly place set of the scenery was falling apart either thanks to strong winds or really bad craftmanship. It was out of instincts that he crouched and cursed Eric, their self proclaimed Master Carpenteer, about his desires to make too much elaborate sceneries like the damned real sized flame breathing Dragon for that big event where they almost got all hospitalized. It wasn't a balloon filled with gasoline that flew toward the scorpion but quite the opposite a man made of water, something that messed a little with his mind as the fantasy nerd believed Undines and the sort of water spirits to be usually female looking ones. "Oh well, maybe they always existed and were like women in politics for us..." He couldn't help to wonder about male water elementals before another voice kicked in.
"Red-Eye Scorpions, Begone!"
That was more familiar to him. Well, the movements a little too more elaborate compared to 'Raise your Holy Symbol and cast Turn [whatever since Wizard is being pretty generous with Clerics, Spheres and Domains]', maybe it was a Wizard thing that required Somatic Components, but at the same time he kinda foresee what was going to happen. As weird as it could seem it seemed that rules could be extrapolated from his gaming experience to relate to these events. As weird as it could seem it was a great barrier against the shock of such completely unnatural events, something that protected his mind from crazyness of Lovecraft-ish inspiration.
"Ah, we had some locals. Anyone hurt?"
"My pride tingles a bit... And I think I may have a run in my scarf."
"Same here and I feel a little weirded about the male Undine, expected them to be all female and fanservice-y since classic era." He voiced out, unable to send the thought away from his mind. "Oh and by the way, I'm welsh here only to study, not a local." There was some pride in that, pride about how people from England, as a country, needed to purchase guides to read Welsh signpost on the roads, a pride coming from many generations of struggles against different ethnic groups. Smaller than the pride Irish people displayed at time though.
"Oh, bloody hell. I'll get the Cyber Viruses."
"Aren't Viruses a BAD thing?" He said, frowning a little at these words, Virus being for him something that either sent you in bed or your PC in a bad mode. Cyber made it sound mostly like something related to the latter case, but he had no PC. "Wait, are we in the Matrix and it has gone even worse than in the Movie?" After all there was that small monster that Neo had been forced to take in through his navel. He turned to look around, noticing Cyr being pretty relaxed about everything now.
"Well, at least she looks at ease..." The welsh man said shrugging his shoulders.

How long were they going to keep running? How long did they need to keep running? These questions and more remained present in Richard's mind as he kept an eye on their surroundings. The scorpion thing had spooked the girl to no end, and now she was fleeing with him. "I really won't complain about it, even if I can't see the reason for danger at the moment... They're fake, aren't they?" he questioned mentally, looking back at the scorpion chasing them. It was then he took notice of others in the park, also fleeing through the fog.
In time, they found themselves corraled into one little group, and Rich could see them now: Two more scorpions akin to the one they'd seen, and it was then he spoke. "... Maybe not? Huh..."
Three simple words were enough to reveal his lack of terror, but his inability to do anything was undeniable. Along with him and the girl who had saved him, were three more males and two more females, all of whose names he didn't bother to get as they were herded to their end. "Hm... Is this how it ends? his thoughts continued once more, raising a hand behind his head to scratch in concern. Well, even if he did leave today, it wasn't like anyone would believe him about this. Then again, considering even he didn't feel the same threat from them as everyone else did, would he even care to tell anyone?
"Oi! Get down, will ya? Hydrus, get 'em!"
A new voice now, one not belonging to the group, rang out through the fog for he and the group to duck. It didn't take long for the majority of them to get down, though Richard made sure to only get down enough so as to see what was going to happen. Soon, a strange-looking man or something had appeared and began to attack the creatures chasing them... It almost looked like something out of a cartoon. However, before anyone knew it, a new voice had piped up now.
"Red-Eye Scorpions, Begone!"
Hard to make out in the fog, shadows traversed the ground until they touched the shadows of what he now knew as the names of the creatures, before they expanded and seemed to swallow the creatures whole, never to be seen again. It was then he reached up to the hair infront of his eyes, brushing one half aside to as to see better. "Oh... I guess they were real after all."
Truly, he was not an observant man.
"Ah, we had some locals. Anyone hurt?"
Richard looked down at his form, patting his shoulders and sides for the time being. No damage, no rips... "No, i'm fine for now, seems like. Thanks for the conce-" he started to speak, until another man cut him off. Clearly this one didn't care about how fine they were, just something else.
"Oh, bloody hell. I'll get the Cyber Viruses."
... Well, that was odd. Why did that term seem so familiar to him? And what was that feeling building up in him now as his hair fell back over his eyes? He shuddered slightly and took a step back, away from the others. "Think Richard, what is a Cyber Virus? Why are you reacting this way? Why would these people get them in the first place? There have to be plenty of reasons they would want to use something with that name... If they wanted you dead, they would have let those things have their meal."
"... So why do you feel afraid now?" his thoughts tried to question him, the boy stopping his motor functions so as to not step back any farther. Surely, he had no reason to fear them... He didn't even know what they WERE, right? But something about the name struck a long-since hidden chord in him... It gave him nothing but bad vibes.
