Hyde Park, London 4:56 AM
Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.
It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.
They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
London
The next Week
"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."
(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

"You are correct- there are more of us, but not nearly as many as there used to be. If you'd really like to try out our martial art - the life of Kaijudo - then I'll accept you!"
"Heh... Sounds like a job with high mortality rates. I wonder now... Was was their highest number before it began to dwindle" Richard raised the question in his mind, pondering as he watched the temporary back and forth between Mina and Master Dempsey. It was rather cute, but it also hid the real responsibility and danger of the work they were going to be doing. He'd seen them deal with 3 oversized scorpions so far... Just how many more creatures were out there, and how powerful would they be? Slowly, he reached down into his pocnet to withdraw the mirror, staring into it for a moment, before he smiled. "It might be worth the risk."
It would seem their fate in trying out their martial arts fell upon the acknowledgement from another man, Master Tong. The group would follow the pair of Masters to what seemed to be a rather poorly-treated van on the outside. Initial assumptions of it just being a disguise were dashed as the inside proved no better. At this, Richard could only smile as he peered inside. "Heheh... Party Van." he chuckled for no apparent reason or thought. His thoughts were his own, and no one would understand him beyond that.
Once enough space was cleared, he found himself seated alongside the others before they were driven off. Amidst the ride, he found himself still attempting to process what he saw in the park. It was perhaps a silly thing to come back to and think about, but when he considered how different his reaction was compared to everyone else... He almost felt strange. Then again, one of the other females didn't look anymore scared than he did, yet there was a desire in her to run when there wasn't one in him until the other girl took his hand. He folded his arms and hung his head, expecting to think about it for the rest of the ride... Until the van came to a stop at their destination. Climbing out of the van with the others, he looked up at the building and how... Inconspicuous it looked.
"'Martal Arts', huh...?" he asked offhand, tilting his head up to look at the sign a bit, reaching infront of his eyes to brush the hair out from one side so he could see better. They didn't get to dwell long on the outside appearance before they were led inside... Though the inside wasn't anymore impressive. If this was a place where people were trained to control and combat monsters, then it was certainly well-hidden.
... And well-hidden it was, as Master Dempsey spoke up and prompted the man to lead them to a backroom. Upon opening the door, everyone would be able to peer down into the dark abyss it led to. Letting the masters move first, the rest found themselves led down through the passageway until they came upon a rather majestic-looking cavern, where even his sense of surprise was piqued at his surroundings. Everything around them looked so lively and unusual, things he'd never seen before moving about freely as they helped light up their surroundings. Though he can't help but feel a sense of coldness from them, despite their radiant warmth. More importantly are the other people within the cavern, moving about quickly to get from one place to another. Several bumped past him accidentally, but only one would find their writing utensil missing later as he hummed. "One more to add to my collection, I suppose."
Their destination was before a great sphere showing numerous images upon it, and the same sense of feeling he got from the other 'moving lights' within the cavern. Near the sphere were two people, with one assumed to be the 'Master Tong' who would test them. It was the female, however, who stood up and spoke to them.
"Greetings, visitors. My name is Master Roscoe. Welcome to the London Temple."
Yet, before any of them had a chance to speak, perhaps the only physically-imposing one of their group moved forward to talk first.
"Elias...Elias Manning. Now if you're done with introductions I think we've already spent enough time beating around the bush. We're here to see whether or not we can learn this Kaijuda stuff right? So let's get started, how does it work?"
"It's 'Kaijudo'." Richard helpfully spoke up, though his gaze was pulled toward the library of stone tablets far off into the distance. What was their significance? Was this their idea of books? Why was he even looking at them in the first place? Maybe it was the colors...? He couldn't quite explain it. Shaking his head, he faced forward, smiling. "Richard Eifman, good to meet you... Don't mind the shocked expressions, some of us are still a little jittery from before... I think."

Labelled to avoid the confusion
Howell - "So you ARE in the business, aren't you? And you even made me sound like a dangerous molester or a con artist..."
At first she slanted her eyes, digging up another grass clump, then she sighed, letting it fall free. So I'm in the business now, that's rich.
Derrick - "Whatdya talkin' about, lass? Ye sound like ye know about what just happened."
To the visual inspection she was receiving, Cyr simply curled her finger around a strand of teal dyed hair and looked as uninvolved as possible, widening the gap between her lower and upper lids purposefully to seem as woefully lost as possible. Then she cracked a smile, letting them narrow again.
Richard - "Hmm... I've never seen one myself... Or even remember one, so I can't say how sloppy they've been... Though if those creatures were the reason for the latest news reports, then maybe... How many of you are actually doing this?"
She looked toward Richard again, having been dubbed 'Princess' earlier in her own mind. He had a valid point that confirmed her comment. The news report meant something had gotten past them, -again-.
Richard - "It can't just be you two... If you're looking out for a whole world, there has to be more. We've seen these creatures, and considering we aren't freaking out as much as the average person... Those two have a point if you ask me. We all could have a shot at being able to join and bolster your forces... And if we don't make the cut, feel free to fry our minds."
Could be worse ways to spend an afternoon on the weekend right? Yeah... definately gonna have a hard time explaining this to anyone. Where were you? You were supposed to call after you got back home! I... I found myself admring the... er... the beauty of nature with some friends in the park. Yeah, it was exhilirating alright. Should bring some card games and a picnic next time? Sure... I'll totally do that...
She paused mid-thought, then her mind continued the tangent just a little longer.
But the jelly sandwiches might attract ants... yeah, we had ants before. REALLY REALLY BIG ants. Oh? Nah, don't think a can of Raid will solve this. She sneered a little, feeling something itch under her nose. Within moments her manicured hand came up to swat away a gnat.
The 'Raven, Prince of Darkness' spoke again, this time being a bit more suspicious and she could only guess that he wasn't as sold on the notion of the Duel Masters as guardians against the rift. But with only his current experience in memory, she couldn't blame him. Wow... well, I guess it does sound that way but they -did- save us so... Never really thought about it that deeply. She pondered, tugging at that lose strand of unnaturally colored hair.
Mina - "OK! Everyone, I've made my decision! You are correct- there are more of us, but not nearly as many as there used to be. If you'd really like to try out our martial art - the life of Kaijudo - then I'll accept you!"
Everyone went quiet then, paying full attention to Mina as she spoke. The woman who seemed a bit shy before was making it clear she was taking charge. She spoke with the other Master named Derrick who at first seemed incredulous, then nodded to go along with the idea. Apparently someone else would be used to deal with them instead. I guess with enough of us it's only natural. Gotta go meet the big boss right? Wonder if she's still there...
She followed along with everyone else, paying no particular attention to anyone in particular though she kept eyeing the two masters as they gave proper apologies for the condition of their transport. It was a large van that she could only describe like an old dressier, "Rode hard and put away wet." She spoke it softly, not realizing the words escaped her lips. A quick smile covered it up, but she didn't really mind if anyone heard her. It was indeed the...
Richard - "Heheh... Party Van."
"Think I see an unopened box of gummy bears in there..." She chuckled and piled in the back letting everyone else find a more comfortable seat elsewhere. It didn't really matter who sat beside her as she watched out the window, quiet until their destination arrived. Didn't think I'd be coming here again. Wonder if mom and dad still have that room in the back where they'd leave me to play. All while they went around saving the god damned world... Her features scrunched slightly, unable to avoid the emotional backlash of the memory she had thought completely unaffected her now.
Eh... Can't blame the building for anything can I? She unpiled with the rest and entered with her hands slipped into her front pockets, her walk mimicking that of an avian slightly hunched.
Richard - "'Martal Arts', huh...?"
The words barely registered to her as she and the others were lead through the faux interior. It was a front, though a nice one at that. Laurence... Master Martin, Master Dempsey... Names that didn't ring a bell but as she waited with her back on the wall, like the others, simply awaiting the inevitable reveal of the inner sanctum she heard something that did bring in a rush of recollection, like a fresh breeze in the pines.
Roscoe
She found herself scrubbing her palm against her elbow and stopped before it became raw. Someone she knew and had mixed feelings about, but none of them anger.
Laurence - "Sure thing. Right this way, please"
The scent tickled her senses, that mineral and damp cave scent of the underground temple. The dried and petrified clay, the walls carved for use by acolyte and master alike. It was an entire community down below the surface of London that no one would ever realize. But she had known for all her life. And it didn't surprise her, it didn't make her look on in wonder at all. It simply was...
As she moved down the corridors she saw the people smiling, going about their work, their chores. Some stopped to speak to each-other before parting in opposite directions. They had things to do of great importance. She remembered her father telling her that when she was little and would sit in her favorite corner, people watching the temple workers.
Richard - "One more to add to my collection, I suppose."
It tugged her lips into a humored smile. That the nonstop beehive of movement around her would suddenly halt sometime later in the day when one man reached to find his stylus gone. She could picture it clearly in her mind and looked toward the 'Collector'. No longer princess in her book. "A blue one... nice..." she spoke as she moved ahead of him, knowing no one else would have any idea what she was talking about.
While they all watched the world around them, she watched the group.
The stone library came and went through her field of vision. A place she would sit with her coloring pages while her mother researched whatever it was she was needing. But everything here felt disturbingly like home, yet not. It hadn't held her footsteps for at least six years. But she could still remember every little corner she played hide and seek in.
With her face taking a wistful cast she entered into the room, marked by where the caretakers watched their eyes on the world. Two people, one of who she immediately recognized as the sphere turned. And the other tugged something in her chest when she heard the warm yet steady voice of Master Roscoe. She was silenced, unable to speak even as that tightness affected her throat.
Roscoe - "Greetings, visitors, my name is Master Roscoe. Welcome to the London Temple."
Elias - "Elias...Elias Manning. Now if you're done with introductions I think we've already spent enough time beating around the bush. We're here to see whether or not we can learn this Kaijuda stuff right? So let's get started, how does it work?"
Still ruminating, it took a moment for Cyr to hear what came next. Something subtle that she probably misconstrued, but it wouldn't let go. He seemed rather confident correcting the other man.
Richard - "It's 'Kaijudo'. Richard Eifman, good to meet you... Don't mind the shocked expressions, some of us are still a little jittery from before... I think."
"Y-yeah..." She smiled faintly, finally looking up. "Um... Cyr Thea but... er... pseudonym. Guess for legal reasons maybe... it's really Thea Cyril." She managed to smile and speak it with some confidence at the end, though the fact she was introducing herself to someone she already knew seemed a bit deceptive.

"OK! Everyone, I've made my decision! You are correct- there are more of us, but not nearly as many as there used to be. If you'd really like to try out our martial art - the life of Kaijudo - then I'll accept you!"
"Martial art?" Howl expression was kinda disappointed, more than kinda. We could say totally disappointed. The name as well sounded sorta japanese-ish, mostly because he knew that Karate was actually Karate-do, the -do particle being not a note but used to address a way of life, a martial art developed after the banning of the more letal -jutsu ones. "Wait, is japanese? Nothing related to stuff like Al-Azif or Pnakotic Manuscripts or how was that other one called?" Images totally unrelated to books flashed in front of his mind, randomly. "Cthäat Aquadingen? But I'm not sure..." Nonetheless it didn't seemed that Miss Murray had the power to fully accept them and further approval was needed from someone else higher in the chain of command. "Sounds like the monk class in DnD..." He muttered his disapproval.
Disapproval that didn't really disappeared when they reached for their transport. "What's that, the Mystery&Co. van?" Giving the weird creatures he had seen, the talking dog wasn't really to appear out of place had it appeared. "In all honestly, this is worse than I could ever imagine..." It was another comment, made with a low and quiet tune, as he tried to move away some of the multiple forms of litter to get some accomodations. Truth to be told, he actually let the girl sit first, one would wonder if due to chivalry or a little disgust for the seats. As the Van started to move, he let out a deep sigh, almost as deep as how much his hopes where sinking down.
"Think I see an unopened box of gummy bears in there..."
"I'll pass..." He said while thinking at which sort of things had been around that unopened box of gummy bears. He had been a scout, Lord B.P. and all that stuff, never been picky about things but as usual, mankind had surpassed nature about how much dirty and unpleasant some enviroment could be make. Well, almost surpassed as there still were bovine and equine's stables to top the Van hygiene conditions, but to his eyes the gap was really little.
"Ah, Master Martin! How are you today?" he asked Mina as she entered, with a smile.
"Oh, Laurence! I have some...new students...to see...Masters Tong and Roscoe."
"We've got some newbies to Kaijudo. Let us into the dojo, if'n ye please."
"Why they use Master and last names if they will use the first ones freely right after..." Howl said with his usual low and almost whispered tune. By now he was starting to understand why they wiped memories, it wasn't to protect mankind's sanity, it was to protect any form of self confidence they had. Sure, they had saved him and of that he was genuinely grateful, but at the same time... ...it looked like a sort of shabby joke to him, reality proving definetely worse than his expectations as they were led to a backdoor.
From there things changed, a little for the better as the cave enviroment looked more fitting to him. Tablets rather than books were still disappointing, being the man a big supporter of the latter as shown by the Earthsea volume he was still holding to his chest, looking at the multiple screens sphere and the woman near it. Then, another figure spoke.
"Greetings, visitors, My name is Master Roscoe. Welcome to the London Temple."
"Elias...Elias Manning. Now if you're done with introductions I think we've already spent enough time beating around the bush. We're here to see whether or not we can learn this Kaijuda stuff right? So let's get started, how does it work?"
"It's 'Kaijudo'. Richard Eifman, good to meet you... Don't mind the shocked expressions, some of us are still a little jittery from before... I think."
"Um... Cyr Thea but... er... pseudonym. Guess for legal reasons maybe... it's really Thea Cyril."
"Yeah, let's give out our names to the ones that wanted to wipe our minds..." Howl muttered before looking silently for a split second to the old chinese man before turning his eyes on the woman in green once more. "Thanks for the welcome..."
It was the only thing he could say right now, still a little suspicious and depressed about the letdown.

Despite herself, Kimiko was impressed by what she had seen. The spheres of light that floated in the air, seemingly unsupported by anything visible, and the giant sphere at the centre of the room. The people rushing around, each sporting a bizarre glove (that she was certain couldn’t just be for fashion purposes). And most unforgettably, the effortless manner in which the man and woman had dispatched the menacing scorpion creatures before. Naturally, she yearned for that kind of power and elegance. To be able to dominate such potent forces so easily... well, it was a cool idea, to say the least.
Plus, getting her memory wiped would kind of suck.
She cast her glance over the others who had been led into the complex along with her. They seemed to be a ragtag mix, ranging from the overenthusiastic young male who had demanded an answer to his question to the talkative young lady who was either Cyr Thea or Thea Cyril (Kimiko wasn’t really keeping track). She felt a slight sense of familiarity with the boy who she now knew to be name Richard, but other than that, they were as alien to her as these strangers who possessed powers that before now, had only existed in fiction.
“Kimiko Ikeda,” Kimiko said curtly by way of introduction, as introductions were made. Though she remained a little cynical of this place and the people within it, they had, she supposed, saved their lives, and for that she owed them her name, at least. She was a little less keen than the others to jump in and help with the monster-fighting-Kaijudo-thing, but she had to admit, she was intrigued.

In turn, the newcomers stepped forward to speak. The first – named Elias – had a rough look about him, as if he were used to getting into fights.
"Elias...Elias Manning. Now if you're done with introductions I think we've already spent enough time beating around the bush. We're here to see whether or not we can learn this Kaijuda stuff right? So let's get started, how does it work?"
The next to step forward was a longhaired boy, who was more even-tempered than Elias. However, Master Tong's gaze lingered on him- as if he sensed an uneasiness in him.
"It's 'Kaijudo'. Richard Eifman, good to meet you... Don't mind the shocked expressions, some of us are still a little jittery from before... I think."
Next to speak was a young woman, who seemed oddly familiar to Master Roscoe.
"Y-yeah...Um... Cyr Thea but... er... pseudonym. Guess for legal reasons maybe... it's really Thea Cyril."
Thea Cyril. The words opened a pit in Master Roscoe's stomach, and she realized where she seemed so familiar. She glanced at Master Tong, who gave her an almost imperceptible nod. He, too, remembered.
My, how you've grown, Master Roscoe thought, before the next person spoke. He seemed to be analyzing everything around him, a trait that Master Roscoe had sieen in a few Acolytes in her day.
"Thanks for the welcome..."
The last girl to speak was a young lady who seemed to be rather quiet by nature.
“Kimiko Ikeda,”
“Well met, everyone,” Master Tong spoke after a few moments, his voice surprisingly high in tone and youth for one his apparent age. Standing up, he stretched his limbs as if he were about to exercise.
“You all seem to be promising acolytes, although you'll need to put in a lot of hard work and effort if you are to study the sacred art of Kaijudo. Before we begin- Master Dempsey, please bring a set of training gauntlets to the Initiate's Circle.”
In unison, both Derrick and Dierdre responded with a “Yes, Sir!”
“Clearly, he meant me!” Derrick hissed to his sister, who proceeded to push past him.
“Bloody hell he did, you take a turn starin' at old Argus for 6 hours without a chance to move, and then tell me who gets to grab the bloody gauntlets!” She retorted, followed by her brother. The sounds of their arguing continued down the hall for some time.
With a sigh, Master Tong resumed his explanation.
“As I was saying- Kaijudo is an ancient art, practiced since before the dawn of recorded history as you know it. As such, you can't expect to learn the ins and outs of it in a few weeks time. This will take dedication, determination and hard work.” As he spoke, his face grew increasingly serious. Then, it softened.
“However, the very basics will be those that you should grasp easily enough. With that, you can begin to make a truly important impact on this world- you can help keep it in balance!”
Master Roscoe took over at this point, leading the group into the library.
“What Master Tong says is true- this is a world in balance. A balance that most people are unaware of. You see, our world...is not as it seems.” She grabs a tablet from one of the shelves. It appears to be made of some kind of bark, and on it are a series of drawings of a stick figure in certain poses.
“This world of ours is protected from another world – the Creature Realms. Home of every monster imaginable. Dragons, griffons, hydras- if it's a mythological creature, chances are the myths are in fact sightings of creatures that cross the Veil.” She pauses now, grabbing another few tablets. Some appear to be made of some kind of golden metal, or stone, or even some kind of purplish mass.
“The Veil is a mystic barrier, that shields our world from theirs. However, it is not a perfect shield- it's strength waxes and wanes in different locations at different times, and when the Veil weakens sufficiently,” she pauses once more, grabbing one last tablet. “A tear may develop. Not unlike a tear in a piece of fabric. At that point, a Creature may enter this world. You saw that today- the mist, the Scorpions- classic signs of a Veil Breach.”
Leading you out of the library, Master Tong once more takes over the explanations while Master Roscoe passes out tablets to each of you.
“That is where we come in. The Order of Kaijudo Duelists has existed for as long as the Veil has, and have been sworn to maintain it- repair it when it weakens – and repel any Creature invaders. To do this, we are able to call forth specific creatures through controlled maneuvers, channeling our Mana – our spiritual energy – through these.”
He holds up his left hand- a black leather glove covering most of it. At this point, you have all arrived at the Initiates Circle. Walking in a distance, Master Tong turns to face you.
“These are gauntlets. When you channel your unique mana signature, the gauntlet will react. Like so.”
Demonstrating, Master Tong performs a simple kata, resulting in his gauntlet flashing red. When the light dims, you can see that it is predominantly red with orange highlights, and a golden gem set into the back of the hand. At this point, both Masters Dempsey arrived, bearing gauntlets for all. They hand them out, apparently done quarreling for the moment.
“Follow along, please. I will teach you the Kata to activate your gauntlet,” Master Roscoe tells you. “Afterwards, we will introduce you to some Creatures we have here, and teach you to control them.”
(OOC: Ok, super big post fun time yay! Respond as you will, then perform the kata and describe your gauntlet. Feel free to describe how it feels to channel mana- should be both empowering, and have some quality associated with your Civilization. Also, the tablets you got will be for your first creatures- feel free to have them be your partners. If not, feel free to pick a low level creature to summon.)

Mina, as master Dempsey had called her had decided to give the group a chance. Of course this meant sparing them from the cyber viruses, at least for the time being. Kate did her best to remain quiet, and not get to excited the idea of a parallel world did seem a lot more rational than some claims she had heard before.
After a ride in Mina's messy van the group found themselves in front of a rather boring looking martial arts dojo, the outside of which was not in the greatest of shape. The inside of the dojo was a different story it was obviously well kept and organized. The masters greeted the receptionist who after a very short conversation led everyone to some door in the back. A door that led downward.
Strange floating lights, a library full of various tablets, the sounds of something striking metal, and of course the occasional wave and or smile from what Kate could only assume were other students. At the end of their walk was a large room with a massive sphere covered in monitors, along side the sphere were three people wearing white, red and green respectivley.
"Greetings, visitors," The woman in green spoke. "My name is Master Roscoe. Welcome to the London Temple."
"Um... hi." Kate said after the others started speaking up introducing themselves. The one who had mistaken her as the psychopath had introduced himself as Elias. The others followed suit as Richard, Cyr, Kimiko, and of course one of the group decided not to give his name.
"Well since everyone else is introducing themselves I guess I should as well, my name is Kate." She didn't feel like giving her name, it probably wouldn't matter if they got their mind wiped but she still didn't know them enough to give her full name.
The oldest of the masters instructed Master Dempsey- well apparently one of them, to get some training gauntlets. Obviously gauntlets must be something of importance but all she could picture in her mind was an old metal glove from a suit of armor. He then went on to say that the secret art was old- apparently older than he was, and that it would take hard work and dedication to learn.
The lady in green- Master Roscoe, continued from there. She explained about stuff like balance, and the veil, which made Kate chuckle a bit. The idea of something like a thin fabric separating our world from a world full of monsters. It just seemed like a joke. Master Roscoe passed out tablets of various materials to each of them as the old man, Master Tong, started talking once more.
Master Tong told them about how they channel something called Mana, through gloves that they called Gauntlets, in order to fix holes in the veil and summon creatures to deal with others. The Masters Dempsey handed out a set of basic looking gloves to the group. "Follow along, please"
Kate did her best to mirror the motions as she couldn't help but feel relaxed as her gauntlet flashed. The gauntlet changed from a boring black and gray glove into a dark teal glove with blue finger tips, as well some yellow plating adorned with cyan trim and a blue ring on the back of the hand. "This is pretty cool." she said not sure what else to say, knowing the glove changed in a matter of seconds it certainly seemed unreal.

“Well met, everyone. You all seem to be promising acolytes, although you'll need to put in a lot of hard work and effort if you are to study the sacred art of Kaijudo. Before we begin- Master Dempsey, please bring a set of training gauntlets to the Initiate's Circle.”
"For a man who looks so old, he sure sounds like he's still got alot of youth and fire in him." Richard found himself nothing, perhaps more idly amused than anything. He expected most old people to be slow, or forgetful, or even crotchety. This guy sounded like he'd be the source of life and entertainment in a retirement home, and could probably even put a few kids to shame. Of course, that was just going by his voice... But considering this man was one of the Masters, then it meant he still had some physical qualities about him. "Hopefully I can be like him when I grow up."
He found himself amused by the banter that went on between the two Masters whose last name appeared to be 'Dempsey'... True siblings, perhaps? They certainly talked similarly enough to pass for it. In a moment, however, his attention was back on Master Tong.
“As I was saying- Kaijudo is an ancient art, practiced since before the dawn of recorded history as you know it. As such, you can't expect to learn the ins and outs of it in a few weeks time. This will take dedication, determination and hard work. However, the very basics will be those that you should grasp easily enough. With that, you can begin to make a truly important impact on this world- you can help keep it in balance!”
He seemed almost like a gym teacher to the boy. A strong, determined man who knew what he was doing and almost felt like he was putting emphasis behind what he said. He was stern, and yet kind at the same time. It was odd how he felt just a little bit inspired by the man. He wasn't terribly sure if the others felt the same way, but he knew that this would perhaps turn out to be something he liked to do. It would certainly be a change of pace from the rest of his life, that much was certain. For now, they begun to move, with Master Roscoe taking over explanations now.
“What Master Tong says is true- this is a world in balance. A balance that most people are unaware of. You see, our world...is not as it seems.”
"I think after today, no one can walk away and say it is." he mused in the recesses of his mind, grinning ever so slightly as his hair washed over his eyes, obscuring them once more. The curse of unruly hair... Or one who didn't make an intense effort to maintain it.
“This world of ours is protected from another world – the Creature Realms. Home of every monster imaginable. Dragons, griffons, hydras- if it's a mythological creature, chances are the myths are in fact sightings of creatures that cross the Veil. The Veil is a mystic barrier, that shields our world from theirs. However, it is not a perfect shield- it's strength waxes and wanes in different locations at different times, and when the Veil weakens sufficiently... A tear may develop. Not unlike a tear in a piece of fabric. At that point, a Creature may enter this world. You saw that today- the mist, the Scorpions- classic signs of a Veil Breach.”
The library now... It was here that Richard lost track of keeping himself in check as his eyes wandered. So many tablets were here, many of different colors and varieties. What did it mean? Was it a way to organize them? Did it mean something that all of the tablets looked like they were created from different materials? He kind-of wanted to reach out and take one... But too many were watching, and this was too important to mess up before he even proved himself. Biting down inside his mouth softly, he jolted his mind temporarily and forced himself to return to the current subject at hand. Explanations about the Veil, and how it could weaken in certain places at certain times... As well as telltale signs of a Veil Breach. No matter how anyone sliced it, this was still important information for later on.
In time, they had arrived at a rather large, circular field now within the cavern, before tablets were being handed out to them. As this was done, it was now Master Tong who spoke to them while Master Roscoe handed out the tablets.
That gauntlet... He'd seen similar, albeit different, designs on the hands of the other Masters back in the park. Were the gauntlets unique according to their user? Or were there other deciding factors? How would his own look...?
“These are gauntlets. When you channel your unique mana signature, the gauntlet will react. Like so.”
He watched Master Tong execute the movements, with fluid precision he had to note, before his gauntlet changed. The light that flashed... it appeared to be red, and once it cleared, his gauntlet was much the same, along with other colors for highlighting detail. Now more than ever, he found himself curious. Would his be similar? Wait, what if it turned out to be a color he didn't like? ... Were there any colors he didn't like? He was fairly sure he wouldn't be that picky... In time, the Masters that had left to fetch the gauntlets had arrived now, handing out the gauntlets to them.. Slipping the cloth on, Richard looked it over in the meantime, before he looked to master Tong once more.
“Follow along, please. I will teach you the Kata to activate your gauntlet, Afterwards, we will introduce you to some Creatures we have here, and teach you to control them.”
The first to perform the movements was the girl who had given her name simply as Kate. He noted the caution in her, unwilling to give her last name, but still volunteering more information than the other man. Still, this would not have an impact on the tests. As she performened the kata and succeeded, Richard noticed the design of her gauntlet, and how different it looked from Master Tongs'. Focusing upon his hand, he took a deep breath and attempted to mimick the movements first presented to them by the Master. However, he had messed up one of the movements, keeping it from activating, and causing him to frown.
"Wait, no..." He closed his eyes now, taking another breath, as he recollected the movements Master Tong and the girl Kate had made, before attempting it. This time, he could feel the energy flow into his hand, his eyes opening in time to see the glove give off a sort, purple flash. Though the glove was still black and gray, it was a lighter shade of both, and this time featured a purple crystal set upon it. "Hehe... It felt comforting. A little cold, but comforting... What is this though?" he asked, looking upon the crystal, and noting the skull-like design in the center of it. "That doesn't look good..."

Edwin was delighted that the others backed him up, and even moreso when these Duel masters agreed to take them in. He hoped he would be able to make the cut, since it wasn't like he was doing much else. He followed the masters to the Dojo, where they were led down a secret cavern. Edwin was impressed, he didn't think these actually existed. Although he became less impressed as it went deeper and started to wonder where it ended.
Eventually it did, and it was a world Edwin didn't think possible. Fantastic, amazing things were everywhere, and they would have blown his mind if he hadn't had just been threatened by giant scorpions and observed them being vanquished.
They were greeted my Master Roscoe. Edwin had just said enough to be polite, such as his name and an acknowledgement to the people so far. He listened as they were told what these things were - monsters beyond the veil, many of which corresponded with creatures of mythology. Now this Edwin was most interested in. Dragons, sea serpents, krakens, so the tales of them were true after all?
Then they were led into another chamber, where the Master said there they would get their gauntlets, which presumably was the key to Kaijudo. Edwin decided he would watch a couple of others first before performing the task needed to activate his. He slipped on the training glove and waited. First up was a girl named Kate, who performed the Kata correctly on the first go. Impressive.
Next up, Richard. He made a mistake the first time, Edwin saw how, remembering to avoid that mistake. He also noticed the looks of concentration on their faces to start with, which turned to relaxation as they succeeded, so acting all tensed up wouldn't do. As Richard left the circle, Edwin moved forward immediately, feeling too curious to wait much longer. He broke down the movements the previous three had made in his mind.
"Okay" he murmured, "So, first this way..." he performed the first part" "then over here" he quickly changed stance as observed, "careful now" he just managed to keep balance in the tricky part of the Kata. By now he was definitely feeling something warm on his hand, something real was happening "aand, there!" he finished the Kata and looked quickly to his gauntlet. To his delight, it had transformed. It was now more elegant and streamlined than the bulky training glove, coloured red and blue with white on the fingers. He eagerly awaited the next person to do their ritual.

As they were briefed by the Masters, Kimiko felt as though she was in a daze – it sounded exactly as if they had just stepped into the pages of some fantasy novel, and she wasn't yet convinced that what was happening was in fact real, though she listened attentively. Then the explanations ended, and the first task began.
“These are gauntlets. When you channel your unique mana signature, the gauntlet will react. Like so.”
Master Tong proceeded to perform a series of movements, which Kimiko watched carefully, causing his gauntlet to bloom with colour. She couldn't help but inhale a sharp intake of breath at the sight. Though she'd witnessed far more impressive feats of magic this day, she still wasn't used to things not obeying the laws of physics in front of her.
One by one, the others began to mimic the kata, their own gauntlets transforming upon success. As Edwin stepped back from the circle, looking at his gauntlet, Kimiko advanced to take his place. She paused, steeling herself up and resolving to get it right on the first try. Then, without saying a word, she copied the actions she had seen, though her movements felt a little awkward and ungraceful in contrast to Master Tong's fluidity.
Thankfully, her gauntlet responded, and Kimiko ducked out of the circle, her eyes fixated on its new appearance. The base of the gauntlet was now deep blood red in colour, adorned with a yellow pattern that seemed reminiscent of fire. To complete the flame motif, the yellow streaks licked around a leaping orange flame symbol.
Subtle, she thought to herself dryly, though she was pleased. Fire was cool.

Eli listened as Master Tong explained how all of this "Kaijudo" worked. It was an order dedicated to maintaining something known as the veil, which seperated the creatures they'd seen today from their world.
"This is straight out of a movie." He said to himself, disbelief at the whole situation still lingering even as he looked it in the face. He almost expected to wake up at any minute and discovered he'd slept in or something.
Master Tong then showed them a short kata, causing the glove on his hand to transform. Eli had seen similar ones on the masters before, aswell as most everyone he'd seen walking about the cavern.
As he was handed a glove himself, slipping it on his right hand, Eli watched as some of the more eager ones gave it a shot. Most of them succeeded on their first try.
After a girl, who'd introduced herself as Kimiko, managed to transform her own gauntlet, Eli decided he'd waited long enough. He stepped forward, clenching his hand into a fist. He'd already seen the kata five times, more than enough to memorize it.
"I just need to channel my 'mana' huh." He smiled, if this mana was anything like the ki that existed in almost every martial art, then he'd been doing that for years.
He performed the kata, after having watched the others like a hawk he knew it well enough to not miss a beat, then he felt his hand heat up as the glove flashed, changing shape instantly. "There." He said, raising his fist to show off the new gauntlet.
Of course, it wasn't identical to the others, none of them were it seemed. Each gauntlet, while they all started off the same, had assumed a different appearence after it transformed, unique to each person. Eli wondered if it would be the same even if he switched gauntlets with someone else. He assumed so, perhaps this was the shape of his inner ki.
"So...this is my gauntlet." He turned his hand over, the originally grey glove had become a deep forest green. On top of the palm and on the end of each fingers was a metallic golden armor, peculiarly shaped around his hand, and surprisingly comfortable. Finally, in the center was a bright blue gem, which appeared almost as if it was staring at him.
"Alright!" He yelled rather abruptly. A little too excited by what he'd just done. "What next? Do we control one of those monsters from before?"
His blood was boiling. This was something incredible, and it was just now sinking in. He'd done something only a handful of people in the entire world were aware of, it was exhiliration unlike anything he'd felt before.
Best of all, he wasn't bored. He felt alive, for maybe the first time in months.
