Hyde Park, London 4:56 AM
Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.
It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.
They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
London
The next Week
"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."
(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

"He might be... for whatever he is."
"Looks like a Saproling to me..." Howl said without thinking twice about it, the lore coming from a certain game coming spontaneusly to his mind. In return he could hear the sound of a snort coming from where the Hornblade Dragon was crouched, looking at the surroundings with inquisitive eyes as he checked upon the other creatures that had suffered his same, somewhat shameful, fate of being summoned by what seemed to be a bunch of novices.
"Howl, that Creature is an Essence Elf, it comes from my same Civilization and I have never heard of such a thing as a Saproling..." The dragon snorted once more, while Howell didn't really liked the tune he used to address him it sounded a lot like 'I know you dont like this and I'm doing it on purpose'. "...the Fiery Bird is Kenina herself, I'm amazed that some novice had been able to summon her..." Yevaud took a pause listening at the human children talking between them.
"Just remember... not to touch it."
"And there go all my hopes of Dragon-Riding..."
"Looks like he isn't very fond of the light. He'll grow in due time, I think... Probably just spent too long in the dark."
"You'd be surprised... You think he started off that big?"
"A Hornblade hatchling is still bigger than a Graveworm one, even if yours seems smaller than the ones I have battled in my youth..." Yevaud pointed out, pride coming from his voice as he let out a chlorine flavoured snort. "...and to my knowledge, every Creature in the Darkness Civilization loathes the sunlight. You could try to raise this one feeding him corpses, but it would be detrimental for your mana to keep him permanently on your side." The Dragon felt to teach. "Speaking of which, are you going to keep feeding me more of your tainted one, Child? Or you're at your limit finally?"
"Can go for a little more..." Howell replied.
"A Human? You mean those terrible beings of old, who forced us to do fight to the death for their entertainment?"
"It's true?" Howell asked to Yevaud which solemny nodded in return. "Well, it explains from where the Duelist bit came..." The young man sighed out, unable to hide his disapproval. "So much for being Defenders of the World..."
"I wonder what that Aqua thing had against the worm."
"I don't know, your guess is as good as mine... I don't think Nibbles here can talk either, so that isn't going to help much. Still alot of things we don't know about these guys..."
"It's... I think I remember a little. Just like human nations go to war, you can see it beyond the veil too."
"Darkness and Water are allies though..." Yevaud intruded in the conversation once more, apparently happy to share lore and knowledge to the children. "...and enemies of Nature, so I'd be wary of them and the Tainted Child as well..." The Dragon warned Cyr, feeling to have the duty to protect Howl from harm but even not trusting his summoner much enough and wanting to warn others about him, just in case.
"Care to explain why you call me tainted?" Howl inquired with a resigned sigh. The Dragon just assumed a dignified expression, looking down at Howell with serious eyes.
"If you have failed at noticing it, you are even more disappointing than I thougth." The Dragon snorted once more. "I am amused you even managed to summon me..."

Edwin didn't volunteer himself to go early this time around when it came to summoning monsters. The tablets were all passed around, and he looked at his carefully. It actually made him a bit nervous. It was a Flame Vent Diver, and the picture depicted it as a sea dragon like creature with a spear. However, he wondered why it had an evil little grin on its face. Was that on purpose by whoever made this tablet? Or was this thing a little devil that would be too much trouble to summon.
Well, he was one of the last people left to summon, and he didn't want to be left out. So he watched as everyone else including the Master summoned theirs, and then proceeded with his own.
"Flame Vent Diver!"
It actually felt pretty exciting as the fabric of space and time was ripped open and a creature was pulled out of it. The Flame Vent Diver looked alarmed at first. It was thankfully small though, only about three feet tall. And it set its eyes on Edwin. He thought it looked kind of cute actually. Even with the evil smile.
"Oh, a human" it said. Edwin was taken aback, he wasn't expecting it to speak. "Well, how about we put it there?" it held out a scaly red hand and approached. Edwin was about to shake it by habit, but remembered the rule that the masters laid down. He stepped back so that the lizard was out of reach.
"No, stop" he said, firmly. "I'm sorry, I just can't touch you, it's a rule I have to follow"
The Flame Vent diver seemed to understand, issuing a small snicker and grinning broadly.
"Well fine, if they know best" he said in a cocky, childlike voice, but had a bit of a lizardlike hiss to it. Edwin took note never to take his eyes off that thing. He buttoned up the pockets on his cargo pants in case it decided to make off with his wallet or something. The little dragon looked a bit disappointed as he did so.
"Ahh, you were trying to snatch something weren't you?" Edwin said. "I'm onto you, so watch it"
"Pah. You'd better watch it yourself, human" the diver replied, grinning again. "I bet you have nothing of value anyway, nothing like gems on the ocean floor"
"Nope, just paper, plastic and cheap metal" Edwin said, hoping that would be enough to make him disinterested in stealing anything from him. Unfortunately it didn't work.
"What's plastic?"
"It's... uh..." how to explain this simply and without sounding interesting. "Just solid oil, I guess"
That seemed to work, the little dragon looked away, taking in the sight of the other summoned monsters in the room. Edwin hoped he wouldn't try anything with them, they looked tough.
"Well, do you have a name?" he asked. The flame vent diver looked shrewdly at him. "Well, just that 'Flame Vent Diver' is a bit of a mouthful and seems kind of formal"
"No" said the dragon. "What about you, human?"
"Well, yeah. It's Edwin"
"Hm. Well, name me if you wish, something 'less of a mouthful'"
Edwin couldn't think up a name on the spot. Naming something that could already talk was a bit of a big thing to ask so he thought of a compromise.
"How about I name you later, once I know a bit more about you?"
The diver shrugged. "Whatever rocks your goat, Edwin, or however you humans say"
"It's boat"
"Right. Whatever boats your goat"
Edwin was amused.

Eli studied the tablet he'd been given. His appeared to be made of bark with several vines wrapping around the outside. "Guessing this is nature?" he said to no one in particular. A quick glance told him he wasn't the only tree hugger here, as a few others had the bark tablet aswell.
He watched as the others began summoning their creatures, content for the moment to put the kata on his tablet into memory.
The first two were fairly small, somewhat expected of the very first summon they'd been given. It was the third one which really broke the mold, causing Eli to jump back as the massive dragon filled the room. Not only was he huge, he was appaarently perfectly capable of speech.
Yveud, as he'd been newly named, continued to banter on as even more creatures were summoned. A giant a kinda gross worm, a water man similar to the one from earlier which was quickly dispelled before it could cause any damage, and some sort of....crab...robot.....frog thing.
Well, he'd watched a few random people summon them just fine, no reason he couldn't right?
Adopting the beginning stance, Eli performed the kata he'd been memorizing the last few minutes, swinging out a fist.
"Dauntless Tusker!"
There was a spark behind him, but little else.
Cursing under his breath, he did it once more, this time creating a longer blink, but still only that.
He couldn't get why it wasn't working, he was sure he'd performed the kata perfectly, and he was channeling his mana the same as when he'd activated his gauntlet. Maybe, he just needed more.
Taking a deep breath, Eli focused as much power as he could into the kata, letting the power flow through him like a fierce river, the only thing holding back it's flow the steady pulse of his gauntlet.
"DAUNTLESS TUSKER!"
He was unable to stop the volume of his voice under the surge of power he was creating as he finished the kata, this time the portal behind him ripping open through sheer force as he felt the river burst. A creature sailed from the opening, landing and shaking it's head slightly as it it had been pulled through it. Eli was actually sweating, surprised such a small creature had taken so much force to bring forth. Had they all been this difficult to summon?
Eli turned his attention to his creature. It resembled a goat, although instead of a pair of horns it possesed a single one on the end of it's nose, and appeared to be wearing a red sash around it's front left leg.
"Woah....awesome." Eli stammered. He could feel a connection with the creature, like a rope, or maybe a leash would be a better term. It all seemed to be focused on his gauntlet.
"Before, those masters were able too control them, I wonder...."
Eli flicked his hand to the side, again letting his mana flow through the gauntlet. The creature jumped to follow his hand rather suddenly, as if prodded by an invisible force. It stomped it's foot as it glared back at him, apparently angry at the sudden control he'd enforced upon it. It blew a huff of smoke from it's nose, hissing strangely at him.
"Woah there buddy, my bad, here, I'll make it up to you." Eli knelt down, taking a bag of peanuts from his pocket and placing them on the ground as the small yet rowdy creature walked over and inspected them. With a purr it happily began to eat the snack food. It seemed it had accepted his peace offering.
"Heh, you're a cute little guy ya know?" He said, absently patting the creature's head.

One after the other, creature after creature was summoned. Despite herself, Kimiko was impressed by the range and apparent sentience of the various monsters that had materialised. Her own creature, Kenina, fluttered around the room briefly before perching on a bench to curiously watch the other humans perform their summons.
“Not to mention that Fire bird over there would stand no chance against one such as myself.” The water-man that the girl Kate had summoned said dismissively. Kimiko frowned, her hands curling up into fists. She didn't care how intimidating Aqua Strider looked – if he so much as looked at her cute phoenix-thing the wrong way...
“Why don't you come a lil closer and say that again?” Kenina snapped. Kimiko jumped at the sound of her voice – she'd not realised that her creature could speak as many of the others could. Kenina clacked her beak in disdain as Kate was forced to dismiss the Aqua Strider. “Idiot water-brain.”
The proud little fire-bird swooped over to perch herself by Kimiko, attempting to get a closer look at the girl's face. “Hmmm. A much smaller human than the last one who summoned me, but I suppose you'll do.”
“I'm Kimiko,” the girl offered, deciding that she liked Kenina well enough. After all, she didn't seem to be instantly picking fights with anyone else, or have too disruptive a personality.
“Kenina. Though I 'spose you already knew that, else the summons wouldn't have worked all that well. Soooo. Who are we duelling?”
“Uh... no one yet. I'm kind of... new to this.”
“Eh. A novice.” Kenina relaxed, folding her wings. “Fair enough.”

As the summons were completed, Master Roscoe nodded in turn. Everyone seemed to have successfully summoned their creatures on the first, aside from Eli. Roscoe made a mental note for him to have some special training after this session.
She watched dispassionately as the Aqua Strider attempted to attack the Rot Worm. She knew that both creatures were easy enough to contain, and if needs be she would summon her own creature to deal with them. As it was, the Creatures were speaking with their partners- not unheard of, but certainly not a universal trait. It was for this reason that these summons were chosen- those that could interact with their partners would help the process.
Especially him, Roscoe thought, eyeing Howell. The boy has a distinct aura signature, and with his accidental knowledge of fact out of fiction...he might indeed be able to truly tame this Hornblade.
When she saw Eli petting his partner, she did speak up.
"Stop that!" Her voice was short and clipped, like a schoolteacher about to rap his hands with a ruler.
"These Creatures are not Pets. They are intelligent, and as you can see they are capable of speech. However, this does not mean they are to be controlled lightly." She began to pace, lecturing as she did. "With this bond between you, you now have the ability to enhance your partner's fighting ability- two minds working together. In time, you will learn spells that will allow you to participate in a fight, or otherwise benefit your Creatures. There will be time for that later."
Ending her pace, she looked out over all the creatures and the assembled neophytes.
"With this, you are officially on your way to become true Acolytes. Congratulations, everyone. Normally, we have a ceremony for this - but we normally also spend several years reaching this point. We will train you for a month- at your advancement test, you will prove your ability as a Duelist to become a true Acolyte. Now come, let us get you fitted for proper gauntlets and uniforms. Please dismiss your creatures and follow me."
*~*~*~*
Time passes. A month goes by as you are trained in the arts of Dueling. You learn to summon another creature, low-leveled and easy to duel with. You also attend classes at night, learning the basics of the 5 Creature Realms, and the history of the Order. Each of you have some difficulties balancing your old life with your new one, but manage to do so.
Finally, the day of your advancement test has come. You are all waiting in an antechamber to the Arena in the Dojo, for the other Acolytes to enter the stands and watch. Sitting in attendance are Masters Mina and Roscoe, the others busy taking care of business. A familiar face ducks into your chamber.
"You have about five minutes, everyone," Laurence speaks, wearing his copper and red robes. You have since learned that he is a Fire Specialist, which a title for an Adept with a focus on a particular Civilization - in Laurence's case, Fire.
(OOC: Ok, you've had a Training Montage and you now know how to duel with your Creature. You also have gained another low level (no more than 2000 power by card rules) Creature, and you may use either in this duel. Note that higher-power Creatures are still hard for you to control at this stage. You will be given an opponent by me in the next big post.
On an unrelated, but particular note- Elix, because Eli had trouble with summoning; Kay, because Howell had trouble with activating his Gauntlet- each of you have been given an additional bit of training you can add to your character's history/fluff. Basically, you've been directed to place your non-gauntlet hand into a particular jar of water while you Duel. This water is special in that it drains mana at an accelerated rate, and acts like a weighted bodysuit does during exercise. With it, you have had a boost in your stamina.
If anyone else would like to have used this as well, feel free to include it in your posts, but include how/why you learned of it and used it.)

Over the past month, Kimiko had struggled to balance her college studies with her night-time Kaijudo classes, with assignments and coursework often leaving her rather tired by the time she made her way to the Kaijudo Temple. Thankfully, the impact to the rest of her life was minimal. On the days when her mother wasn't too busy or tired to notice, she easily accepted Kimiko's 'martial arts' not-quite-lie as yet another sporting hobby that her daughter had taken up. The few friends she had were well used to her characteristically infrequent social interactions outside of college.
She threw herself into her new studies, expending all of her energy into learning about the 5 Civilisations and the creatures who resided within them. On the occasions they were allowed to summon their creatures, Kimiko found duelling with Kenina to be tricky at first, but she quickly acquired the hang of controlling the Fire Bird, although the spirited creature often had her own ideas about the best way to fight, even going so far to fight against Kimiko's instruction from time to time. Over the course of the month, they began to understand each other better, and soon they were co-operating well as a duelist and her creature ought to.
Kimiko interacted little with the other new acolytes-to-be, preferring to keep her own company as usual, and exchanging little more than the occasional polite formality. Kenina, however, had no qualms about chatting with the others, and even told Yevaud off whenever she witnessed his persecution of his duelist.
The Duel Masters had even given her another tablet to summon a second creature, this time a Nature Civilisation one. Though he was bigger and stronger than Kenina, Kimiko found that battling with Deepwood Druid wasn't nearly as... natural as duelling with Kenina, although it did have the advantage of not being intensely afraid of water.
Finally, it was time for the test – the successful completion of which would grant her the status of a true Acolyte. After a month of training, Kimiko knew that she was ready.
"You have about five minutes, everyone." Kimiko nodded in acknowledgement, before returning to her silent pondering of the trial that awaited her. She wondered who the Masters had planned to be her opponent...

The last month for Howell had been the horrible child of hard work and hell. With his failures at the Gauntlet Trial going anything but unnoticed he had been adviced over some extra workout, in the specific case the use of what he called the Leechter a weird cross between the words Leeching and Water, a Jar filled with some sort of liquid that seemed to drain his Mana faster than even such a being like Shir would.
And that was the hell bit about his training...
The Dragon had took any chance he could to point out his mana was tainted and not a pure Nature Civilization aligned one. Something that had been irritating at first, slightly annoying once he figured that despite the complaining the Dragon was still around to help, depressing once it turned out like having an old grandfather ranting about how life was better in the old times. Indeed Kenina had offered her support and while Kimiko seemed to react like all average girls would react toward a geek like him, utter silence and polite replies, the quarrels between the Dragon and the little Pheonix weren't as silent. On that had to be added that with Yevaud not wanting to deal with humans, Howell even went to ask to the Masters for some training in the traditional martial art stuff. And while the other Masters pointed out it was mostly a ceremonial thing nowadays, Master Mina at least agreed that it would have helped with his building stamina program.
Indeed, Howell had emerged stronger by the trial. His stamina and Mana enhancement were only the tip of the iceberg. The patience, self control and ability to shut off everything out of his mind needed to be able to ignore all the chaos made by the two creatures was the biggest gain he got from the trade. It was a new Howell the one that emerged from this training period, or at least that was he wanted to believe, in reality he had grown only a little more able to not fall for cheap provocations...
...and obviously his grades at the university had fell down the sink...
"You have about five minutes, everyone,"
"Oh joy..." Howell sighed, his eyes closing for a moment as he mentally revised the movement for the Kata to summon either Yevaud and his new ally. One of which the Dragon wasn't especially fond due to sharing the same taint as the duelist himself. While the other accolytes had been given robes and formal clothes, Howell had always preferred to train in civilian clothes, saying that he really hadn't time to jump in the Tardis for a change of uniform if anything happened and he was needed to intervene. Because after all, that's the reason why I'm doing this right? To protect the world from rampaging Creatures...
It was something the other Masters somewhat disapproved, a little like the idea of going flying kicks toward the other Summoners in the training duels. And for the specific occasion, due to it being really formal, he had to wear a cape and a sash around his waist over the comfortable black denims\boots\crew shirt setup he had favored for his Kaijudo training. Nonetheless he believed he had found a friend wherever people crafted such garments as the clothes had been both tailored in black fabric, emerald and purple runes respectively from Nature and Darkness Civilizations embroided on them. With a sigh he checked his claw-like gauntlet, another proof of his mana attunement toward the darkside of wilderness. And to think I liked Jedi the most... The young summoner said taking a deep breath.
"Yevaud is going to feel soo trolled once he'll see me like this..."

Time went by and Kate found her self going to the dojo every day. Since learning to summon she had summoned Aqua Strider on a few occasions and came to find out that he was divided a bit. He was a dual civilization creature belonging to two civilizations. Normally light creatures get along well with water and nature creatures while having issues with darkness and fire. Water creatures on the other hand typically get along with light and darkness due to common traits.
Kate had learned to summon a second creature, Steam Star Grapplog, a creature that while far less flashy when compared to Aqua Strider, it is much easier to control and best of all doesn't talk back. Though she still preferred to summon Aqua Strider, he finds it easier to control Steam Star Grapplog when others are around- especially if there are fire and or darkness creatures around.
Of course Kate had to try and juggle stuff, school, homework, chores and kaijudo practice. She had a rough time at first- and thought she was gonna get grounded as her grades had started to slip. However after a conversation with Master Roscoe she was able to work out a schedule that allowed her more time for school.
------
Kate was starting to second guess herself she hadn't practiced much due to focusing more on her studies than anything else. "I hope I don't mess up." She slipped her gauntlet on and made her motions to activate it. The same flash of light as the first time engulfed it as it took on its activated appearance.
"You have about five minutes, everyone." Lawrence said as the time for the advancement test neared.
"So five minutes, I guess I should probably try to decide which creature i should use." Kate aid going over what he felt to be the advantage and disadvantages for both of her creatures as she deactivated her gauntlet.

It was an odd sort of arrangement, working together in training while gradually earning the trust of their non-verbal creatures. Rich seemed more intrigued than surprised by his new found status as a duelist, and when he was surprised it was pleasantly so. She found it somewhat infectious. Kimiko would speak to her sometimes, though it was sparse. Howell was embedded in learning to balance the natures of his two creatures. Kate was a regular and though Cyr was impressed by her ethic, she still had yet to approach the girl much outside of studies and working with their new found beastly companions. She had chanced to see everyone training, and had taken hints and advice as well as given, though she sometimes gave off a rather lax impression.
He was an asset to train with, though his knowledge of every subject known to nerd-dom impressed yet at the same time worried her. Strange and out of mainstream interests had kept her from making many friends and it may have been similar for the quote piping, dice carrying oddball. Yevaud adding his own commentary during sessions didn't help either, though it did give Cyr a chance to perhaps give the dragon something else to complain about, other than his royal need to downplay his own summoner.
She knew he was proud, but to her he was just another self-entitled reptile, like the ones she worked with and saw delivering their works to her editor's desk. The cash crop as they were called.
Outside of the visits from Howell, only Rich seemed intrigued enough by the oddly dressed eccentric and would bring Nibbles by to see her and Veit. It still reminded her awfully of her mother to see the smaller creature of darkness. She couldn't help but visualize it buried in a vegetable garden patch, it's little legs wiggling before it popped it's head back out from the loamy soil. Such an unorthodox use for a creature, but it was a small rooftop patch where no one was the wiser as to what was going on.
Her parent's temporary lodgings at the building the temple was part of finally saw some use after being abandoned so long. They had buried themselves in their work, inside and outside of the veil, and after a long dispute that she still felt guilty for, moved on.
That still left her alone much of the time, except when she had the odd company of someone who might even be considered on par with herself for unusual habits. With family time of his own and her schedule with book signings and appearances, she took him under her wing, even taking him to one of the fancy parties she hated so much so it wouldn't completely rot her mind with boredom. She made sure to wear nothing different than her everyday best, and the bikini-top and vest ensemble left a few staring at her as they passed by, a few bumping into the person in front of them. Women scoffed, she simply shrugged, finding walls to prop against with a knowing grin.
The game she played, one not legal or particularly nice was something she passed on to Richard. Taking out wallets of passers-by, finding the photos within and exchanging them with ones from another wallet. The confused and nervous faces that graced the mob of socialites was priceless as they began showing off pictures of their children, only to find in it's place was a shot depicting a beloved family cat.
She'd brought Howell along on their adventures, trying to coax him into a little more of the fun that came when one ran for their life from the security guards. Especially when they thought you were somehow uninvited despite the card due to how you were dressed.
More than once she considered the horrible influence she was, but at the same time there was pride in behaving badly. Rules weren't there to slow her down. The value of freedom was impressed upon anyone who spent time getting to know her, though few managed to slip past the walls she'd fashioned over the years. Nevertheless it was clear something had filtered through, leaving her to sometimes look lost, then found again.
Otherwise she buried herself into her training as much as any of the others would, all while holding that amused irony at how the world had thrown her back into the grasp of the Duelist's Kingdom.
An additional creature in her repertoire came in the form of a Savage Snow Pixie named Hilfee.
A stark contrast to Veit, Hilfee was completely verbal, inquisitive and fascinated by the humans around it. Though a strain on her mana-flow, Cyr was willing to humor the creature a bit in order to gain her trust, though allowing it to stay up one night with a bowl of popcorn and a selection of action movies was probably not her best bet. She had fallen asleep, only to have Rich come and wake her up with a concerned smile on his face, then point out the rabbit garbed fae still in front of the T.V., commenting that someday enjoy dueling the creature known as 'Arnie'.
Hilfee in the meanwhile had contented itself with it's training, and chances to try and ride Yevaud. The dragon was clearly a quadruped and by it's standards, a mount. Despite the fact the dragon -clearly- made it know that he was in now way a sort of toy, Hilfee insisted his back was large enough to carry a passenger and made a point of proving to him that they would earn his trust, or at least respect.
Cyr had trouble dissuading the Snow Pixie from it's current goal in life, instead rubbing her palm against her forehead.
She... or he... Cyr wasn't entirely sure what gender her beast was, or if it was truly a beast at all. Hilfee looked like a scrawny child beneath ragged pants and a mantle made from rabbit fur and paws. And Hilfee seemed confused by the question, instead asking back, 'Why don't you know, yeah?' She never told anyone else about her summoning in her parent's rooms, though it was probably obvious to Master Roscoe by now...
The sight of Master Roscoe and Mina was a comfort Cyr accepted easily. Either woman had made her feel more at ease in this new chapter of her life than the other masters she had seen. A weak, childish part of her heart wished that Roscoe could have been her own mother, though it quickly dismissed the thought. She stood, seeing everyone that had been familiar before, the ones she had associated with the most and often together. Howell and Richard.
She absently fingered her glove, gazing into the space before them as Laurence approached, fully decked out in the garb befitting his station, and alignment. She thought the robes covered up a bit too much and hoped she wouldn't have to wear them. Thoughts of vanity were recognized and she shook her head, uttering a silent prayer to the universe.
"You have about five minutes, everyone,"
"Five minutes to what..?" she muttered, her brows drawn.

Before anyone knew it, a month had passed since they had begun their training... And the month had been rough, to say the least. Trying to balance two different lives wasn't as easy as he would have preferred it being. The class life was as tough as it usually was, with the occasional issue from unsavory people and his difficulty with a few courses. However, this was a normal life to him, and the only way it would change would be with him directing more time to it.
His other, admittedly more interesting life, however, was what left him particularly drained as his days went on. Training, mastering stances and katas, studying up on lore and the backgrounds of many creatures... It tended to get nerve-wracking, to say the least. Fortunately, he had a core of capable people to teach him the ropes, and effective colleagues that could assist him in his endeavors. Thus far, he knew a few people decently, with Cyr being the most well-known for him, even helping him practice on hours when the dojo itself was closed. Crashing at her place for training was a unique feeling, for sure, but it helped pay off in the long run.
On the other hand, she didn't help his habits any, often times dragging him and even Howell out to enjoy miscellanous nights of mischief, dances here and there, general partying... Social events and things Richard would normally never attend, but she managed to show him the wild life and loosen up a bit, not worry about the rest of life ahead of him. She even indulged in a few of his bad habits, often times taking wallets and such from people and mixing them up. Though he still worked on a small scale, he still had to respect the woman's dedication, drive, and even bravery. It made him want to attempt it as well... But he didn't feel like being charged for theft yet.
As far as his training had gone alongside the others, eventually he came to work well enough with Nibbles, the little Grave Worm Hatchling the boy managed to find adorable yet powerful. Eventually, he had gained the power of another monster, an unusual breed of a creature. It was a Rot Worm much like Nibbles was, but also part Dune Gecko, a creature of the fire civilization. The creature in question, a Lava-Tube Crawler, was equally as adorable to the boy as Nibbles was. Perhaps jokingly, he nicknamed him Boomer for his occasional explosive belches. He may not have had the most elegant or even cutest creatures around, but they were still his own, and he trusted them well.
However, they certainly weren't winning any favors with other monsters. Their lack of intelligence, and at times their opposing civilizations, made them the target of scorn from other creatures. Were it not for the fact that their understanding of emotions was almost nonexistent, they might have actually felt insulted and even a little hurt by the treatment. Fortunately, Richie still gave them reassuring hugs and even belly rubs when the masters weren't looking, assuring them they were some of the best creatures around.
"You have about five minutes, everyone,"
Richard said nothing for now, remaining neutral as he attempted to go over his battle plan in his head. Nibbles was definitely the stronger of his creatures, but he needed to show equal love and appreciation to all of them. Therefore, he was most likely to lead with Boomer, having acquired him not too long ago. Thanks to being part dark, he seemed to have a good affinity for him, but he was surprised to feel that the fire aspect felt... Just as comfortable? He couldn't quite explain it. However, from the time he'd gotten to know Boomer, he was an intense fighter, fearless, refused to back down. If anything, he had tenacity on his side, but depending on who his foe was... He had to think about how to approach this.
