Hyde Park, London 4:56 AM
Hyde Park, one of the largest Royal Parks of the great City of London, was shrouded in fog. This was not unusual- the city was well known for it's shrouded nature. What was unusual was that one particular patch of fog was -wrong-.
It was located deep in the park, and it was different. This patch of fog crackled with energy, seemingly alive. The grassy area around it seemed to thrum with life, and a causal observer, if they had been present, would have noticed the flowers starting to bloom around it.
They would have also noticed a large creature crawl forth from this fog bank after a time, it's multiple red eyes glistening in the dark. It skittered into the wooded area nearby, confused and disoriented. The bank of fog seemed to calm down as it left, dispersing into a more familiar mist.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
London
The next Week
"In the past few days, reports of mysterious attacks against animals in Hyde Park have continued to rise. Several of the city's destitute who spend time in the park have reported 'sightings' of large monsters, but these reports are being discounted by the head of the local police..."
(OOC: Such reports you would have heard on this day. Each of you is currently on your way to some destination important to you, be it work, school or play. As you make your way into the park, each of you will find yourselves in a secluded area of the park, and run into each other. There, the Red-Eye Scorpion will attack!)

"... Cyr, there are plenty of things to notice in this fight, and you saw that...?"
"Oh... there's plenty more to notice..." She continued to watch the fight transpire, having an inkling it might prove to be a better one than she had expected, considering the opponent Howell faced. His diminuative combatant was still giving off all the wrong vibes for someone fighting a tentacle monster.
"... I'm... Not sure what to think right now..."
Cyr smirked and looked away. No one had taken any of the food she brought. There would be excess to shove in her pantry that night. It seemed there wasn't really much of a need to keep the atmosphere calm in the first place. It left her slightly on edge. She was used to being an entertainer, someone who was a professional at mood setting, at getting a crowd going. Even if I hate doing it... it's a talent I'd say. I just hope that when it's my turn I can give a little bit of a show. Wouldn't do for my image to let down expectations. Just... no beast kin... please no beast kin... She rubbed her arm as if cold, though no one would notice as their eyes remained glued on the fight.
"I just hope whoever I get doesn't have some zealous crusade against Dark Civilization creatures. Feels like every monster you guys have been able to summon all hate on the Rot Worms, some to the point of wanting to destroy them, heh..."
That's... not true...
"Or ride them... Hilfee still has that saddle made using my thrift store place mats..." She added, raising her brows deviously. They were still adorable creatures she had recalled from childhood, and nothing was going to change the fact they would always be associated with the few good memories she kept of her mother, and now even more, sillier ones.
She smirked and slapped his back, pointing to the fight that had suddenly shifted to beast on summoner as the Skulking Cypress ended up tying not the Reflector Cannon, but Lucy in it's grasps. It was Cyr's turn to face palm, not for the skillful attack, or the strategy... but the appearance it gave. The tendrils worked around the girl, holding her in place. "You're right Rich... only I would notice that..." She nipped her tongue against the inside of her cheek, an amused expression covering her face.
It'll be like always. Surrounded by a crowd that knows nothing about you. Cheering because you've got showmanship. Surrounded but completely alone. My god... aren't you a bucket of sunshine today. She chuckled and thought of the rather hyper active snow pixie waiting to get it's hands on a proper fight. The punching bag at home was in tatters, having given up the ghost over a week ago.
Eventually it was time for the haughty dragon that often butted heads with Howell to take center stage. The arguement between the two was on account of Yevaud's pride but she could see the other duelist handling him better this time, and not backing down to the creatures attempts to assert itself. In the end that turned the tide and allowed Howell to take down Lucy's final creature, another serpent. It seemed fitting...
"It was a fun fight, we should do these more, child. Keep in touch with my partner..."
"Interesting playdates they'll have..."
"You too, keep an eye on the Tainted Child..."
She squirmed for a moment, not sure why the words had such a sudden and distressing feel to them. As if the dragon could somehow see through her as he looked in their direction. It was played off as an itch as she reached back with her thumb, using the nail to attach and scritch a part of her lower back.
Master Roscoe came up, then Laurence. It was Kimiko's turn to take the stand, and her opponent appeared to be a reject from not the movie, but the pirates of the carribean ride. He was only missing an animatronic parrot on his shoulder. Maybe he left it at home, along with his sense of fashion, self-worth and... there are too many things there.
He brought out what looked like a giant moray eel, angler hybrid. It was impressive and like Kimiko the thoughts of awesome, and I want one flitted through her mind, as well as how anything as small and docile looking as her Snow Pixie could ever tackle something of such enormous size. She had expected something fiery and profound from Kimiko, not having seen her second beast, as the girl didn't train with her during appointed hours. She could only be curious as she leaned forward over her crossed legs, toes still gripping her soda between them.
“Deepwood Druid!”
The sight was enough to still her, cause the normally proud, untouchable woman to stop breathing until the lack of oxygen reminded her. Her mind tried to process the images poorly and she grit her teeth to drown them out. It was another cruel irony she had been found to carry an affinity for the nature civilization, but fate had spared her having to summon one of the beast-kin herself. She put on her best smile, making a triumphant gesture toward her fellow acoltye as she guided the slow, but steady druid amid the Lurkers attacks. It seemed to be a stalemate until Santiago gestured the fate of his opponent's summon, crushing it in serpentine coils.
She felt a guilty pang of relief as the beast-kin faded from the arena. She only hoped Kenina had better luck. Knowing the little bird's hatred for all things water civilization, it was probably in Santiago's best interest to get a life insurance policy on his Lurker.

"Congratulations, Mr. Gilford. You pass. Now, Adept Lucy,"
"Uh... Thanks..." Howell mind was somewhat sleepy now as the tension of the battle had passed he was now suddenly feeling the whole weight of that mana-draining fight he went through. The young Adept, or at least he guessed he was now one, felt that one more second of fight and the outcome would have been really different. Probably it wasn't a bad idea to train a little more with the water jar, given how taxing was to keep the Hornblade Dragon summoned during actual combats rather than just talking to him.
"You and Master Dempsey - you know which one - are going to have some extra special training with me after this event."
Guessed it was a bad idea... The young man thought before letting out a deep sigh. Assistant Librarian she said, Howell wondered if even that place was going to be filled with stone tablets and how badly Lucy had taken his attack directly toward her. Really bad, supposed given how the girl had decided to proceed. He felt it would've been appropriate for him to bring her something to apologize for the rude attack. Some cookies maybe? Everyone loved cookies...
"Ms. Ikeda, you are up."
"Sorry about the Dragon, he likes to have the last word..." Howell said with a tired voice to Kimiko and the others as he reached for the bench thingie, looking at the girl moving to take his place in the arena and face her opponent which in turn seemed to be someone pretty piratesque in both manners and appearance. Sure, he looked more of a crewman and not a captain and the Adept Robes weren't really fitting the theme but still...
...was awesome...
Howell deeply admired the man, feeling inspired by the sense of freedom and pride that the seaman communicated with his whole being. To sail on a galleon and face hostile weather and circumstances. To plunder vessels led by unfair captains, to hunt for treasures and riches and to see exotic and untainted islands. Despite him being a forest person, it seemed still a life worth of being lived and the young man couldn't help to wonder about how many wonderful adventures Santiago had lived so far...
...it also explained why no girl with a sane mind even considered the option to go on a date with Howell...
"Rapids Lurker Wwhhshrll!,"
"Now how much rum you need to gulp down before saying that name properly?" Howell mused to himself, before sitting on the other extremity of the bench compared to where the more lively people were. The young man watched silently at the battle going on between the Deepwood Druid and the Rapid Lurker, amused that Kimiko had picked a creature of the Nature Civilization as her second choice. With the Masters he had studied about Beast Kin, but to be honest he had never thought too much of them. His attention being taken by the Earthstrike Dragons and the Tree Kins giving the latter's similarities to Fangorn, one of his most favorite characters from Tolkien Lore. He was about to consider the battle done as well before Santiago managed to pull out an ace from his sleeve and apparently reverse the flow of the battle.
"Now things are getting bad..." The young man silently whispered as he looked at Kimiko, knowing that her only other summon was the cute and friendly little Phoenix that many times had took his defence against Yevaud's harsh words.

Kate watched Howell's fight with little interest, so what if he was first up Kate was more interested in trying to figure out who on the sidelines was gonna be her opponent. No two duelists were alike that's what she figured out from the first fight Howell and his opponent were rather different. The second match was Kimiko vs someone who was using a water civilization creature.
"Hmm so she's got to fight against a water civilization, I guess i should pay attention to this one." Kate said thinking about how the two creatures she's summoned so far have been water, it made sense to observe how a water creature operated.
Kimiko had started off with a beast kin known as Deepwood Druid, Kate glanced at the wannabe pirate Santiago and laughed thinking he looked like a pushover. However that pushover defeated Druid, and Kimiko was forced to call on Kenina. "Hmm Fire vs water, should be interesting those two don't seem to get along very well." Kate said as she observed the fight.
Glancing down at her gauntlet she practiced a few motions trying to make sure she remembered the motions for when her turn came up. Would she start off with Aqua Strider, or perhaps Steam Star Grapplog. Strider was tricky to deal with however she felt he packed more power than the starfish creature.
"So umm... I wonder who's up after Kimiko."

Kimiko ran a hand through her hair, her fingertips gently tracing the outline of her neat french braid as she mentally prepped herself to summon Kenina. Duelling with the Deepwood Druid had depleted her mana stores, but she could feel that she had enough left to put up a good fight with Kenina. The magical power surged through her form as she swiftly performed the kata with which she was by now very accustomed to, having used it in multiple situations over the previous month in training.
“Kenina the Igniter!”
The sight of the flame-symbol blooming into life above the arena gave Kimiko a sense of peace, of understanding and comprehension. This was a civilisation with which she could feel she had a real affinity, even though Kenina was the only Fire creature she'd summoned so far. She couldn't wait until the Duel Masters saw fit to entrust her with others... although that would only come once she had passed this test.
Kenina's song, a distinctive trilling that warmed the arena with its melody rang out, heralding the small firebird's arrival as she swooped in through the portal. The effect of her graceful entrance was somewhat spoiled by her look of disbelief as she noticed the huge eel-like monster hovering before her, its menacing gaze locked on her in the kind of predatory manner that seemed to imply that it was definitely feeling roast firebird for lunch.
“...you're joking. I have to fight that?” Kimiko could tell that Kenina's reluctance, and perhaps even fear, was due to her natural weakness to water. After all, she'd seen for herself the little bird's flames being snuffed like a pathetic candle by the torrential watery attacks of Water creatures. “Dude... we are so screwed.” She gazed around the arena, seeing the audience of their match and even giving a cheery wave at Howell upon catching sight of his familiar features.
“C'mon, we can do this.” Kimiko swept her hand forwards, instructing Kenina to rush forward at her opponent.
“You're gonna fight me with that?” Santiago had dropped the pirate accent now, along with the stern expression that had accompanied his swashbuckling disguise, mirth etched upon his face. Kimiko didn't even bother to reply, deciding that she didn't like him, good humour and all. She'd make him pay for underestimating Kenina, as well, and wipe that silly smirk off his face while she was at it.
Santiago merely shrugged at his opponent's reluctance to speak, and directed Wwhhshrll to the side, intending to dodge whatever it was that Kimiko sent flying his way, but the girl had learned her lesson. Rather than launching an attack, Kenina took advantage of her superior speed and smaller size to nimbly zip around the much larger monster, moving so quickly that she was merely a yellow blur. Kimiko smiled to herself. Wwhhshrll might have outsped her Druid, but next to Kenina's agility, its movements seemed slow and cumbersome.
That had a price, though – now she would have to be carefully defensive, since one stream of water hitting Kenina would instantly send the bird back to the Creature Realm. But as Santiago had taught her, superior power would mean nothing if no hits could be landed.
“Just don't get hit!” Kimiko called. No hits, and if we can land a few of our own, we'll be fine.
“No shit!” Kenina squawked in reply, darting around the big monster's head. Having managed to manoeuvre herself into a position so that she was in the beast's blind spot, she opened her beak, spitting several small fireballs at the delicate fins on Wwhhshrll's head. Just as swiftly as she had approached, Kenina retreated, not even sparing a moment to see the effect of her attack as Wwhhshrll hissed in pain and annoyance, Kenina's attack having singed its fins.
“Get it before she gets away!” Santiago commanded, and Wwhhshrill obeyed, spitting a stream of water at Kenina, who swiftly dodge the attack by flying underneath it and allowing it to pass harmlessly overhead. Several more fireballs were launched at the creature's body, but they seemed to have less of an effect as they were blocked by the eel's scaly hide. Again Wwhhshrll attempted to counter attack, but Kenina was too fast.
The pair traded shots, both fighting defensively and focusing on trying to avoid being hit rather than doing large amounts of damage. But Kimiko knew that it wouldn't last... after all, Kenina was expending way more energy than Wwhhshrll, and at this rate she could simply be tired out by her opponent. On the other hand, the fiery attacks didn't seem to be doing enough damage to end the battle. And end it she would have to, and fast, else she'd be worn down. But any attempt to land a more damaging hit would take far too much time and would be easily avoided...
Kimiko glanced up at the two combatants, her chocolate brown eyes steeling in their determination. Her plan was risky, but then again... what else would be expected of a true Frie Civiliation Master?
Kenina gulped as her flight was halted by the command of her duelist, leaving her seemingly wide open for one of Wwhhshrll's attacks. “Um... I hope you have some kind of plan,” the phoenix said frantically as Wwhhshrll closed in, its menacing golden gaze locked on her. The triumph in its eyes, the triumph of a hunter who had caught its prey, was mirrored in Santiago's as he swept his fist down, signalling one final attack which would end it once and for all. Wwhhshrll's maw gaped wide, watery energy gathering within.
Kimiko's own arm reached out, opening her fist. A flurry of fireballs burst forth as Kenina met the watery onslaught with her own, matching the torrent of water with her flames. There was a hissing sound as the two met, creating a burst of steam which rapidly enveloped the pair of combatants as the powerful attacks collided. Thick steam completely clouded the arena, making it difficult for anyone to see what was happening. Santiago's eyes flew open in surprise, but Kimiko took full advantage of the precious few seconds she had, and trusted in Kenina.
A bright, bird-shaped object became visible to all as Kenina's form glowed orange, the creature summoning the remainder of her energy in her strongest attack, gathering flames to surround and engulf her body. But for Wwhhshrll, the revelation was too late, as it had not enough time to escape the strike. Kenina slammed into its head squarely between the eyes, and sailed on through as the Rapids Lurker's body was transported back to the watery depths from whence it had come.
“Yeah!” Kimiko's fist clenched in victory in a rare display of emotion, as Kenina victoriously swooped around the arena. “Nice one!”
“Nice one, yourself,” Kenina returned, perching herself on the ground. “Guess you passed your test so I can go home now? I kinda was in the middle of a good nap...” Kimiko smiled.
“Til we meet again, then,” she said, opening her palm out before her. Kenina simply smiled and nodded as her body was converted to red light, then disappeared entirely.

Edwin had been watching the battles silently, in awe. The adepts fought splendidly and nearly flawlessly. Boy would this be a challenge. However, he was reassured by the fact that he'd be allowed to use both of his creatures. He had been thinking perhaps he should summon Jiggs first to wear out the opponent then Ulysses to finish them off, their vastly different battle tactics hopefully would be enough to throw them off and win.
In the first duel, seeing Howell struggle against the Reflector Cannon at first made him think it just might be an impossible task. However, Howell and his creature managed to fight to a draw. Then it seemed that they would proceed to a tiebreaker duel. And Howell summoned his original dragon. They seemed to have a long discussion to start with. Edwin couldn't hear everything Howell said, but it seemed to work and the dragon seemed to be less irritable afterward and listened to him. And the second fight went much better. That dragon was powerful.
Next up it was Kimiko's turn. Unfortunately her first creature was defeated, but Edwin saw that she had worn down the opponent. Now it was up to the second creature to finish it off. It was Kenina, a fire bird. Edwin wondered how this would go since fire and water battles clashed spectacularly, either one way or the other. Edwin filled with excitement at the fierce battle that followed. Kimiko turned out to be very impressive, guiding her bird so it didn't get hit, and finally landed a critical blow that ended the battle.
That was some show, Edwin thought.

As Wwhhshrll returned to the depths, a silence fell on the arena. This silence lasted all of a few moments, before laughter cut through it. Santiago was clutching his sides, tears welling up in his eyes. And he was laughing whole-heartedly.
"HAHAHA! Hoo, lass, you should've seen the look on your face! Such determination! Hahaha I felt like I was about to be scolded like a schoolboy again!" Wiping the tear from his eyes, he visibly centered himself, before bowing deeply to Kimiko.
"Very well done, Ms. Kimiko."
With his bow, Master Roscoe stood again, and made her way to the podium. She announced,
"Congratulations, Ms. Ikeda. You have passed." Then, she turned and walked back to sit down. As she did, she muttered to Derrick.
"Master Dempsey, you have trained Santiago well...but really? He's still doing the 'pirate' thing?"
He shrugged. It was Mina who spoke up.
"But he's sooo funny! You should see him when the little ones take the intro class upstairs- he's like a big clown to them!"
To say that Master Roscoe rolled her eyes would be an understatement. Meanwhile, back in the seating area, Lawrence had tapped on Edwin's shoulder.
"Pardon me, Mr. Huntington. You are next."
Lawrence then led Edwin up, crossing adjacent to Kimiko on the way. June had led a figure, with a dark black and bronze glove. Lifting the hood over his head, he reveals himself to be a roughly 12 year old boy. His features are neat and trimmed, and he seems fairly mundane for that.
He does not offer his name, only waits for the Specialists to leave the arena. The air of professionalism about him makes him appear to be snobby.
"Marrow Ooze." He announces, his voice forceful but not forced.
The creature slithered out from the portal, and immediately slunk to the Duelist's side. He nods to Edwin, waiting for the fight to begin.
(OOC: Okay, next fight! Spire, your opponent has a name (you can make it up if you like). His main trait is that he is results oriented, not worried about how he appears to others. Pragmatic, jerk, and anywhere in between.)

Edwin was startled as he was tapped on the shoulder. He was next? Well, he wasn't expecting it that quickly, but he felt ready after watching 2 other battles, and it had to be done. He followed Lawrence into the arena, giving a nod and a smile at Kimiko as they passed, then prepared himself at his end.
His opponent entered the arena. Edwin saw that it was a boy, probably barely a teenager. Yet his neat attire and confident stance made him nervous, he was definitely someone to take seriously. A child prodigy? Edwin thought. He knew better than to go easy on this kid.
"Hey" Edwin said politely. "Well, I'm Edwin..." there was no reply. The kid promptly summoned his monster after the specialists had left. It was a Marrow Ooze. Edwin looked away as it came out of the portal, it looked like it was vomiting. Then he thought of who to summon to fight against it.
It was a liquid monster, so maybe Ulysses was the right choice? He could picture Jiggs doing something stupid like getting his spear stuck in the gunk monster and be pulled into it himself, so another liquid monster should have a better chance.
"Aqua Commando!" Edwin shouted, and raised his gauntlet to summon the water creature. Liquid poured out of the portal that appeared, and gradually grew until it resembled a humanoid figure made of water, his ruby-like eyes glowing.
"Ah, Edwin, just the person I wanted to see" Ulysses said, his telepathic voice echoing. "Whilst I was meandering the deep, I came across a conundrum..."
"Ulysses, sorry, but we're about to have a serious battle here" Edwin said, thinking now was not the time to talk about this.
"Oh? Very well. I shall ponder it while we fight" said Ulysses, the watery man assuming a careful stance. Edwin grimaced. No, he shouldn't. "Do not worry, it is relevant. My conundrum is what happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?"
Edwin kind of wished he had summoned Jiggs now, at least the fight would have started by now and he wouldn't be confused.
"I think it's impossible" Edwin said, vaguely remembering a discussion about that riddle sometime before in his life and that was the conclusion he had come to. "Please, focus"
"Hm. Yes, alright, that makes sense, it's ludicrous to ponder something that's impossible..."
He was cut off when the Marrow Ooze suddenly attacked, charging at the Aquan. Edwin had seen it coming, and guided Ulysses out of the way just in time.
"Guess we've started then" Edwin remarked. His kid opponent was looking impatient. "We've got to find a weakness, Ulysses..."
"You won't find one" the kid he was fighting replied. "And I already know yours"
Edwin had a bad feeling grow in his gut, but he wasn't going to be psyched out by this. He knew it could be a bluff. He guided Ulysses around the ooze creature, the Aqua Commando examining it for a possible weak spot. However, like him, it seemed to also be made of liquid, so it didn't appear to show any obvious signs to attack.
"Alright, now!" said Edwin, deciding now was the right time for Ulysses to attack. He rushed toward the ooze, his watery fingers extended into threatening looking claws. He lunged and attacked the Marrow Ooze's midsection, making a strange splash/glooping sound as water hit slime. To his surprise, he didn't make an effort to dodge at all. Edwin guessed that he was preparing to counter attack.
"Back!" he shouted. He had to stop doing that, whenever he was startled he had a tendency to shout out commands rather than simply guide the Aquan. He could communicate telepathically after all. But something was strange, the ooze didn't counterattack after all.
"Well?" Edwin called out to the kid. "What about my creature's weakness?"
"It's done" the kid said, shrugging. Edwin was confused again, then he saw what had happened. Ulysses' previously clear arm was now a cloudy light purple. And he felt that his creature was not feeling so well now. Then Edwin knew what it was.
"Poison?!" he exclaimed.
"Yes. My creature is composed of dissolved bone marrow and toxic slime" said the kid. "Your creature is made of pure water, and each time he touches the ooze, it will stay in his body"
Edwin was wondering whether the kid was being condescending or polite in telling him what was going on. Probably both, going by that tone. But he had to think quickly, Ulysses had to somehow wear the foe out without bodily contact, otherwise he'd get poisoned so badly he'd be banished.
The time for planning was cut short when the kid took the advantage. The ooze charged at Ulysses. Edwin then realized another hazard. Ulysses himself could be absorbed by this thing if he was hit hard enough, then he'd be banished for certain. He guided Ulysses upwards. He gracefully flew overhead. The kid directed his ooze to extend its snapping jaws up toward him.
Edwin directed Ulysses to attack with ranged hits. And the Aqua Commando did so, swiping his hands through the air and sent narrow waves of high pressure water down at the ooze. He roared and flinched as the water hit. Both Ulysses and Edwin were starting to get the picture now, the Marrow Ooze didn't really like being hit by pure water. And the slimy tendril that Ulysses had hit the most seemed to look more transparent.
Don't let up, Edwin thought. Ulysses got the telepathic message this time. He kept on the water attacks until his long fingers became short. And the ooze's tendril he was aiming at became so diluted that it could no longer move. It fell and splattered on the ground.
"Inconsequential" the kid said, simply. And another tendril with a snapping mouth at the end sprouted from the ooze. That wasn't good. Edwin looked up at Ulysses. While he could gradually regenerate himself by absorbing water vapour from the atmosphere, expending that much water to attack had concentrated the poison within him, and he was even more sickly.
"Now, finish him!" the kid shouted, and the Marrow Ooze flailed its tendrils. Edwin tried to guide Ulysses out of the way, but he moved too slowly and the tendrils were too many. One passed straight through his leg, filling it with dissolved toxic sludge. Edwin had to think quickly, that was too much poison for him to handle.
"Eject it!" Edwin called.
"What?" Ulysses asked, confused.
"Get rid of your whole leg! Can you do that?"
Ulysses understood what Edwin was thinking. If the poison in his leg spread up into his body, he'd be finished. He aimed his watery leg at the Marrow Ooze and detached it from his body, the watery limb losing its shape as it fell, then struck the ooze hard in its middle. So much water didn't do it very good.
While it was flailing in pain, Ulysses regenerated another leg. However, by doing so he was now about half the size he was at the start of battle. Time was running out.
"Strike him!" the kid shouted, and the ooze sent four tendrils up at Ulysses, all from different directions.
"Ulysses! No!"
Edwin knew it was over. He wanted to look away, but his muscles didn't seem to want to work. Ulysses was struck through the torso, poison filling him. He disappeared, banished back to his dimension.
"Hm, nice improvising there" the kid said, aloofly. "Oh, and sorry for not saying my name earlier. It's Arty"
"Okay, cool. Is that short for Arthur?"
"No, Artemis. And I like the name you gave your creature"
"...thanks" said Edwin. Now it was Jiggs's turn. Ulysses' sacrifice wasn't for nothing, he had a better idea of what to do now.

"HAHAHA! Hoo, lass, you should've seen the look on your face! Such determination! Hahaha I felt like I was about to be scolded like a schoolboy again!"
Kimiko scowled, feeling her victory blemished by his mirth. She detested being ridiculed, and Santiago's good-natured laughter sounded as though it was directed towards her, provoking her quiet ire. But she chose to say nothing, seething in silence as she inclined her back in the traditional gesture, first towards Santiago, and then at the Masters.
"Congratulations, Ms. Ikeda. You have passed."
The recognition of her triumph chased away the sour taste in her mouth left by Santiago's merriment, and even brought a small smile to her face as she was being led away from the arena. Passing by Edwin on his way to his own trial, Kimiko nodded by way of wishing him luck, and continued on back to the stands where the others were waiting. The taciturn girl resumed her place among them as Edwin's opponent stepped up to the plate, summoning a rather gross-looking Darkness creature to duel.
Their battle seemed far more tactical that Kimiko's own had been, with the Darkness creature employing its poisonous abilities to great effect against Edwin's Aqua Commando. Despite Edwin's quick thinking in ordering his creature to eject its own leg, Ulysses was eventually defeated in combat, although Kimiko could see that his final strike had worn down the Marrow Ooze.

Kimoko's battle had come and gone, Richard working his way through half a bag of snacks as he watched with interest. The name of the monster she had to fight was near-impossible for him to pronounce, but it looked fearsome enough that you could call it something similar and still get the same effect of 'One screw-up and you're done for'. Her first monster, Deepwood Druid, looked imposing enough but seemed to find itself quickly outmatched by the more evasive, cunning water civilization creature. Danced around, thrown into walls, and eventually choked into submission, the creature was eventually banished, causing Rich to sigh.
"How are you supposed to beat something like that...? It got rid of that Nature Monster so easily... Her last one is a Fire Civilization, but what can it do against something from the Water Civilization?" he asked himself mentally. Would his creatures need to endure a similar fate? It was perhaps a childish quality, growing attached to creates with a questionably low intelligence, that came from a world where anything more powerful than them wouldn't think twice about pulverizing a human.
With no other choice, Kimiko had called upon Kenina now to continue the battle in Deepwood Druid's stead. As expected, her opponent proceeded to question her choice of monster, but it couldn't be helped. The only saving grace was that the rules of battle here didn't seem to apply like they did in other media... Namely, both elements were viciously opposed to one another. With that track of thinking, Kimiko had the key to defeating Wwhhshril... As long as she didn't let Kenina take a severe blow from the monstrous creature. He folded his arms throughout the ordeal, casting a quick glance to the side at Cyr and co. "It could go either way... Can't tell who's going to win anymore." he muttered, reaching up to scratch his head. To him, the match really could have gone either way.
If there was one thing he knew about Kimiko in the short time they were in this sect of sorts, it was that persistence was one of her strongest points, joined side-by-side with determination. This man stood in her way of greatness, and now he would be taken down for it. Shots were fired and missed blows were traded as the creatures battled with the ferocity of a world at stake. To Richard, it was a pretty inspiring battle, showing that two monsters of such wildly opposed civilizations and sizes were battling as fiercely as they were. It gave him hope for his own battles, especially once Kenina had eventually won. Part of him wondered... Was it just as exciting actually battling on the frontlines as it was just watching? "Heh... That was awesome." he remarked, looking forward to the next battle now, which just so happened to be Edwin's. This time he was up against a kid who had called out for a Marrow Ooze, while his ally summoned forth an Aqua Commando.
"Water versus Darkness... Interesting, but..." he trailed off, looking at the darkness creature. A Zombie Race creature, being undead and looking quite foul meant it most likely had an unorthodoxed way of fighting. The Aqua Commando had the potential to be the same, but Darkness never fought fairly. One of the things he'd learned since joining was that Darkness creatures had the potential to thick two and three steps ahead of a foe to subjugate them... And those that usually didn't have much intelligence were tenacious enough to use whatever advantages they had to crush a foe. As the battle began, the Aqua Commando was quick to go on the offensive against the Marrow Ooze, who seemed oddly content to take the incoming strike. Given his form, Rich could only lower his head and sigh.
He truly had not seen the following possibility of infecting a water creature in such a way. It really was unorthodoxed, but it taught him there to use any and all advantages a monster offered, even if they didn't seem immediately apparent. Watching the poison spread throughout the Aqua Commando's leg before it was jettisoned, it gave him an idea of how he could fight future Water Civilization creatures, potentially even others. "Well... It's in their nature, right? What's to say we can't use that nature to our advantage?" he thought, reaching for more snacks, as phase two of the battle would begin soon.
"It's amazing how much I can learn just watching some of these fights... Heh, I wonder if i'm getting psyched now..." he trailed off, a broad smile evident on his face despite hidden eyes.

Howell came back and sat across from them, his amusement at the creature Kimiko was slated to fight noted. She found herself mouthing it silently, and skewing her lips as it sat oddly on her tongue. But the fact it was one of those dreaded beast-kin the girl summoned still left her feeling an unease that permeated her to the bones. She felt cold and as she rubbed her flanks anxiously she made sure to appear just that. Cold...
Why are you getting worked up over that? It's on the field, it's not even looking at you. It isn't the same as those other ones were. And it's Kimiko... She may not exactly be a friend but she's not an enemy. She narrowed her gaze thoughtfully toward her bag of treats, still not taken by the others. She would conveniently leave it there and never pick it up again. It wasn't as if she normally drank such things. She sighed and heard Kate discussing the nature of the fights thus far.
So use something that directly opposes your own civilization. Make it harder to overcome. Makes sense... Even her attempts to distract were thwarted when she saw the druid felled and felt a guilty relief over it's demise. It was bringing her mind to far darker places than she wanted to be.
While Kenina was loosed she carefully picked herself up and looked toward her fellow acolytes. They were all focused on the ending of Ikeda's fight. Have I been out of it that long? I need some air... just need to get out of here for a while... She debated on letting the others know she had left them a few things but went against it. She simply pushed off the bench and turned around, walking away, back behind the dug-out and into one of the hallways of the temple. There was a small crowd gathered watching, speculating on the new acolytes but they too paid more heed to what they heard inside.
From all she could overhear Edwin was next. She smiled faintly for no particular reason and tucked her arms behind her head, looking every bit the calm, casual individual everyone expected her to be as she found the crowd impossible to bypass. She simply lingered for a moment, then turned around to see Ulysses suffer a grievous injury, only to lose the limb and shrink down with his remaining volume. She paused at the entryway for the audience section and leaned in to the door-frame, delicately curling her fingers in the fray of her scarf.
If they think they're going to pit me against the biggest opposition I could face, they have another thing coming... She smirked at the irony her own worst enemy would be from her current affinity. The Nature Duelist who abhorred nature.
"Eh... they'll probably set me against a pyromaniac otaku or something..." She groused half-halfheartedly by the arch with a smirk.
