The aftermath of the Repliforce War left many problems for those remaining to clean up. Some who weren't perhaps the most glamorous of heroes or immediately recognizable. Common, everyday men and women, human and machine.
The unfortunate sacrifice and misunderstanding that started it all was left unresolved in the end. Those who had been a part of the Repliforce were on probation, given tasks that were monitored by Hunter HQ. Even now their allegiances are considered suspect, creating a scapegoat race of reploids without any true freedoms.
The wreckage of the Sky Lagoon, New Perth, and later the reploid base of Europa Station were found in the deserts of the west along with countless resources that could still be plundered by both the Maverick Hunters and other organizations. Humans, reploids, cyborgs and androids all living in communities built up around these technological junkyards, all working together to take part in the joy of discovery, but perhaps missing the true tragedy of their advent...
[style=font-weight: bold; font-family: georgia; font-size: 2em; -webkit-text-stroke: 1px black; color: white; text-shadow: 3px 3px 0 #000, -1px -1px 0 #000, 1px -1px 0 #000, -1px 1px 0 #000, 1px 1px 0 #000;]Frontier Life[/style]
The ironically named center of 'Last Chance' was one of these. A Maverick Hunter outpost surrounded by a community of junk runners, inventors, artificers and those willing to take advantage of the wallets of those headed for the wrecks, as well as their prospects. Too small for much tourism, it still hosts a slew of small businesses, suitable for both organic and mechanical life. Little greenery exists here in the rocky canyons, and more often than not a dust storm sweeps by during long excursions.
The base itself is outfitted for training, one of it's primary functions as the derelict ruins offer the opportunity at search and rescue training as well as other survival skills. These are the first responders, the stealthy, and the die-hards. They are also often those who couldn't make it in general society. Hotheads, eccentrics, the highly unpopular and the slightly off-balance all make their voices known.
But the chain of command is strong, respect is earned and given. There is a surprisingly strong work ethic here at the edge of civilization. Even those left over from disbanded Repliforce units can find a home here. And those with little chances elsewhere. Perhaps it isn't the loyalty to any given faction, but the camaraderie between the inhabitants of Last Chance's sole Hunter presence.
[style=font-weight: bold; font-family: georgia; font-size: 2em; -webkit-text-stroke: 1px black; color: white; text-shadow: 3px 3px 0 #000, -1px -1px 0 #000, 1px -1px 0 #000, -1px 1px 0 #000, 1px 1px 0 #000;]Here comes the mystery...[/style]
However there is something below the wreckage of Europa's fractured left wing. Something that was there even before the fallout... Something that someone had taken time and effort to keep hidden there...
Only after the entrance to what appears to be an abandoned shelter is found do things start getting a little strange in Last Chance. Brewing antagonism between factions rises, strange maverick sightings, and a new commander at the base could signal the beginning of another dangerous turn in history.
Zero and X can't come play the hero. This is just a remote base in the middle of nowhere. In fact... it's doesn't even have a full write up in the database. But a familiar face is hiding beneath the wreckage. One that views Last Chance as a good start for their plans to work their to the top and bring down one last rival...
[style=font-weight: bold; font-family: georgia; font-size: 2em; -webkit-text-stroke: 1px black; color: white; text-shadow: 3px 3px 0 #000, -1px -1px 0 #000, 1px -1px 0 #000, -1px 1px 0 #000, 1px 1px 0 #000;]Playable Races[/style]
Humans - probably not your most sturdy, usually humans stay behind their walls and let the reploids take care of anything dangerous they don't feel like messing with, including other reploids. But some take their chances, and others work to help create better opportunities for both, refusing to view their technical progeny as second class creations like many have.
Humanoid - This universe's equivalent of a cyborg. It is simply a term to describe a human with mechanical parts in some form or another. Usually from traumatic injury, though sometimes a human can desire to augment their own body to this degree. Most are viewed with stigma, feared by humans for the lengths they've gone to bypass nature. Even reploids tend to avoid these types, leaving them as loners, only able to fully integrate with others of their kind.
Android - not quite on the same terms as a reploid, these life forms were created not based on the data for X, but a split in the field of robotics. Only one company has succeeded in creating these more realistic models that unless properly scanned can pass for a human quite easily. That is until met on the field of battle. They lack the durability of a reploid but have the increased perceptions and processing speed of their mechanical brethren.
Reploid - They appear either male or female. They usually have a human face (and sometimes, hair), as well as bulging armor around the forelimbs and upper body. However, many are built to actually resemble robotic animals with humanoid traits. For our purposes, human type reploids are refereed to when using this name. As machines, Reploids do not age, although they still require rest and maintenance to remain functional. They are capable of many of the same mundane activities of a human's day to day life, though they aren't required. Energy supplementation is necessary for continued functioning however some more creative reploids have found ways to do this in perhaps a more indulgent way, via facsimile foods.
Mutos Reploid - These are based on animals and mythological creatures. They stand out for their completely mechanical appearance, and they usually possess skills and weapons not available to ordinary Reploids. The appearance and abilities of each Mutos Reploid are generally related to the tasks they are created for, allowing for an unlimited variety of Mutos Reploids. On a mental level, Mutos Reploids are as human-like as their regular counterparts; each Mutos Reploid has a unique personality and way of thinking, which can be affected by their personal experiences. Sometimes the more particular nuances and instinctual habits of their donor creature are incorporated into their personalities.
[style=font-weight: bold; font-family: georgia; font-size: 2em; -webkit-text-stroke: 1px black; color: white; text-shadow: 3px 3px 0 #000, -1px -1px 0 #000, 1px -1px 0 #000, -1px 1px 0 #000, 1px 1px 0 #000;]Additional Races[/style]
Pseudoroid - These rare prototype Reploids incorporate both Mutos and human characteristics, able to take on a transformation between the two if enough energy is harnessed prior. Due to how glitchy and cumbersome such reploids are, the funding for R&D toward these types is limited. Drawbacks include a weaker human form and a chance to be stuck in one form longer than desired, often taking an hour or two before able to change back.
Mechanoloid - Physically they carry no anthropomorphic characteristics, instead being housings for weapons or tools within their large machine bodies. They have a rather cool and shrewd intellect and seem only capable of rudimentary emotions that even they suppress in favor of acting with unrestricted logic.
DNA Souls - Not exactly a race per-say but the ghosts of passed reploids or the beginning AIs of freshly created machine life. They lack a clear definition at this time but have been able to be captured and identified. It is currently illegal to modify or steal the DNA soul of a living reploid, though that doesn't stop some. Currently some experimental types have been under development by the researchers at Last Chance's Hunter Base.
Currently two types exist in Styx, DNA-elves and DNA-metals.
DNA-elves are extremely primitive Cyber-elves in a sense. They can assist, act somewhat independently of their companion as well as gather data perform field analyses. They however require an allotment of energy crystals in order to function and are somewhat limited in combat. Currently Styx has one operational elf acting as a spotter for training missions. The Independent Research And Experimentation Elf is also known as Irae.
DNA-Metals are, like cyber-elves, primitive versions of bio-metals. Rather glitchy, they may or may not properly manifest an armor set and weapons for their chosen host. It depends on compatibility as well as how advanced the Metal is. (Ask if you're interested in having one).
[style=font-weight: bold; font-family: georgia; font-size: 2em; -webkit-text-stroke: 1px black; color: white; text-shadow: 3px 3px 0 #000, -1px -1px 0 #000, 1px -1px 0 #000, -1px 1px 0 #000, 1px 1px 0 #000;]Hunter Base, Styx[/style]
Though lacking the full complement necessary to run a truly efficient base, Styx manages well enough on it's own. It's well stocked, fortified as well as within a convenient distance of two salvage sites and the settlement of Last Chance itself. It seems the primary issue is the fact it's inhabitants, if unable to amuse themselves with their work are often bored to the point of tears. Styx Base Base NPCs

The settlement has most of what any ruin spelunker would need to be happy, as well as it's host of personalities to clash in the mix. Whether or not it's for preserving history or selling it wholesale, there's a niche for any frontier type here.

- Code:
-
[b]Name:[/b] (Not all reploids have a surname, this is normal. Mutos -always- have two-part names) [b]Age:[/b] (Not required as reploids vary greatly depending on when they were created) [b]Gender:[/b] (despite being mechanical, gender does help individualize reploids) [b]Race:[/b] (Everything under playable races, unless I'm asked otherwise) [b]Appearance:[/b] (Remeber, armor isn't permanently attached, though it is very personal and should be unique) [b]Personality:[/b] (How you are at the start, mostly. Keep in mind this isn't static, and may very well be changed by the game.) [b]Miscellaneous:[/b] (if your character has any possessions you may list them here.) [b]Weapon(s):[/b] (What does your character normally fight with? Energy Melee weapons are somewhat OP in this universe, as in they can stand up to ranged but aren't necessarily more powerful) [b]Fighting style:[/b] (Disciplined militant? Street brawler? Martial arts or even more of a magic user?) [b]Occupation:[/b] (Most will be new recruits, though you can have held a role prior to arriving (transferred from another base) or already be in place (please discuss first).)
[b]Strengths and Weaknesses:[/b] (Can be anything from cooks well to can't read a straight line without help. Just because Reploids are made sturdier than humans, it doesn't mean they don't all have inherent flaws. Combat strengths and weaknesses would also go here)
Optional: [b]DNA-Metal:[/b] (Metals are usually designated by two letters. ie., Nightmare Nidhoggr would be DNA-Metal NN.) [b]Personality:[/b] (Maternal? Egotistical? Do they plan carefully or simply want to rush? As Metals grow, like elves do, they gain maturity. They are very childlike at the beginning of their development.) [b]Equipped Form:[/b] (How does it manifest? Armor and weapons are both inherent parts of a Metal's power, though it may grow in time.)

A little late, but if there is room I'd love to join. Below is the sign up sheet for my character. Thank you.
Chrome Buckler Name: Chrome Buckler Age: Old Gender: Male Race: Reploid Appearance: His armor is similar to Colonel's armor. Black uniform armor in the style of a long coat. Gauntlets reinforced with an extra layer of metal that come up to the elbow. Thick boots with rugged soles for traction. A Chrome belt cinched across his waist, dulled over the years, with the only vibrant color coming from the large blue inverted-triangular crystal set in the middle acting as a buckle. His shoulder armor is comprised of two parts, the circular armor which is black in color and the inverted triangular plates that are rounded out to cover a portion of the shoulder armor, coming down a few inches to protect the arms. This too is a dull chrome color. A mantle is draped across his back, under his armor, and around his shoulders sweeping down to his feet. The exterior is black in color while the interior is a snow white. His helmet is of a similar style, sweeping back into three angular points behind the head. Reminiscent of a hawk, with its sharp lines and striking figure. A portion of the helmet juts out over his eyes and nose, almost like the bill of a hat, and this too sweeps down into a point. A blue crystal is set on the front of the helmet over the forehead and compliments it well. The Bionic plates that make up his ears are Chrome in color just like that fittings that run down his jaw coming together at the chin like a strap rounding it out. These chrome fittings can expand over the face coming together to become a mask that covers the mouth and nose if the need arises. This gives Chrome an imposing look as well as protecting him from the environment. Chrome stands at 6 feet even. It is believed that his hair is medium length, probably longer, but since no one has ever seen Chrome without his helmet no one is sure. He has striking blue eyes, vibrant and strong. A chiseled face, with a hard glare and an imposing scowl. Hawk like nose and supple lips. His voice has a natural calming quality about it. Deep, sincere, and controlled. His laughter is light and airy with the ability to light up a room. From afar, Chrome looks to be well put together but upon closer inspection one finds that the chrome has dulled, the armor is full of dings and dents, and some edges are actually chipped. It's these imperfections that tell the tale of Chrome's lack of material wealth, and speak kindly to his dedication as he keeps the rest of the armor well maintained. Personality: Warm, kind, Easy going, considerate, generous, advising, and open minded, these are but a few words to describe Chrome. He is an older reploid with years of life experience under his belt but rather than sit around his home or shop, Chrome is often found out and about lending a helping hand to his fellow neighbors. He loves talking to people, often times discussing with them the small pleasures of life and love, going so far as to spend hours talking if he isn't stopped. He is not loud or boisterous, but he commands a presence greater than even the best orators through his simple actions and kind words. A warmth can be felt when around Chrome, one of safety and security and it's this warmth that draws people to him in this uncertain time. He is a natural born leader once serving as one to many reploids, but finds the tasks to be stressful and derives no joy from it. It is for this reason that he often differs to another, choosing instead to enjoy his freedom. Many make the mistake and allow themselves to be lulled by Chrome's simple demeanor not realizing that beneath it all lies a soldier that once served the Repliforce Army. Miscellaneous: - HALO: A multi-tool system built into Chrome's left arm and used by engineers and mechanics that served Repliforce. Traveling with bulky packs and large cases while fighting a war was deemed inconvenient, therefore the Halo was commissioned to incorporate all the tools needed into one package. The tool itself uses "Hard-Light" technology to create constructs in the form of tools. An entire toolbox could essentially be replaced by one Halo giving the engineer the full range of tools right at his finger tips. The Halo also incorporates a fabrication module that can fabricate small 3D items from any alloy. The need to carry around a box of screws and nails, or call up another department to fabricate a special clamp or bulb are things of the past. It incorporates a virtual interface which is transmitted directly to the user's brain and that displays a hologram over the left arm that envelops the both arm and hand. By using his left hand to navigate the virtual environment, commands can be placed and items created. Since it is a virtual environment no one can see the hologram and when Chrome is inputting commands it looks as though he is moving his hand through the air like a mad man.
- Tin Cup: Chrome has been on the move for a long time now, and the one thing he learned is that he could not live without a cup. The cup serves many purposes, it can hold his drink. It can be used to collect money if Chrome goes out to beg. He has used it as an instrument, albeit very badly. He has used it to share food, and as a means to join others in festivities. He has learned that in this world an empty cup is better than any weapon.
Weapon(s): - Chromoly System - A unique system that came about through attempts at replicating X's Variable Weapon System using the theory that a reploid's energy signature was key to mimicking their abilities. The end result was a system that did not mimic the abilities of other reploids but a system that could absorb, manipulate and discharge energy. The conduits for the system are actually the hands of Chrome meaning he uses his hands to absorb, manipulate and discharge energy. Most often, he fires off blasts of energy from his palms or infuses his fists with energy to fight.
- Laser-Edged Dagger - A dagger in the shape of large bowie knife. Chrome in color with a black handle. Made up of Solid metal with a laser blade along the cutting edge. He keeps the dagger strapped horizontally across the small of his back for easy access. It's primary function is to cut through metal, and to serve as a ranged weapon.
- Mercury Mantle - A 2-tone cape that is installed into Chrome's Armor. This cape serves as Chrome's Dash booster allowing him bursts of speed when activated. A faint blue glow signals the release of the energy as Chrome is propelled forward. The cape is made from a unique polymer that is both mailable and resilient. In short, it cannot be cut, pierced or ripped by conventional methods.
Element: Dark Fighting style: Chrome is regarded as a master of Martial Arts, and arguably one of the most powerful fighters within the Old Repliforce Army. He draws upon knowledge of almost all martial arts and is well versed in their respective techniques to overwhelm and overcome his opponents. He can easily discern an opponents fighting style by look alone, and pick apart that style to destroy his opponent's body and confidence. Many know him as a Reploid who practiced his art not through hate or anger but through peace seeking to achieve balance and serenity. Chrome was once known as the Unbreakable Shield for his ability to weather any attack but that was a legacy he left behind. No longer possessing the same endurance that helped him survive the war, Chrome was forced to reinvent his fighting style with an emphasis on Power, Speed and agility. He went from a defensive style to one of offense, choosing instead to overwhelm rather than outlast. This has become very effective, although not as effective as his older style, and it awards him the ability to put on display the full range of techniques and abilities to destroy his opponent before he body gives out due to punishment. Occupation: Former Captain within the Repliforce Army. Currently the local engineer and mechanic. Strengths and Weaknesses: Chrome is not the same Reploid he was during the Repliforce War. No longer having the backing of the Repliforce Army, he was forced to outfit himself with parts and armor that were easier to maintain. His endurance suffered because of the change, and he was no longer able to fight as he did before. The long, drawn out battles where he could bide his time waiting for the right moment where a thing of the past, his body cannot handle such a beating. He gave up endurance for the stamina to be able to excute the moves he needed to win. He loves to talk, and will not hesitate to walk up to complete strangers and engage in a spirited conversation. This has led him to become sidetracked and spend the day talking. He is easily distracted, and can be seen as lazy as he enjoys talking, eating and sleeping. The comforts. Engineering is a skillset he has picked up and mastered after the war, and is very good at it. His passion is helping people and uses those skills on an almost daily basis. This can be troublesome, as he focuses on helping others and that can be used against him. The Chromoly System is a unique system that makes him more a very real threat to those that rely on beam weaponry. Most would think that by overcharging the system then it can be disabled but few realize that Chrome can easily release any extra excess energy through a number of different ways. No, the real drawback to this system lies in the conduits. His hands. He only has two and he needs those two hands to absorb energy, so if one were to simply overwhelm him and prevent him from using his hands then the system could be voided. More over, if one were to take him by surprise than the system could be voided. Named Attacks:Offense:-
- Lithium Edge: Once Chrome initiates the Lithium Edge, a field of energy envelops his fists strengthening his blows. Every time he strikes his opponents a portion of the opponents energy is siphoned off into Chrome leaving the opponent tired and weak. More blows, more energy and quicker the opponent is drained.
- Brass Shot: By gathering energy into his hands and directing it into his index finger, Chrome is able to fire off condensed blasts of beam energy. Chrome likes to curl his fingers into the shape of gun when firing off the Brass Shot, but it is not necessary. The longer the charge is held, the stronger the shot.
- Copper Flash: A condensed burst of energy released from Chrome's hands. It is a defensive ability that was once used as a shield. The energy is released in the path of a beam or an attack and it would be deflected or stopped long enough to give Chrome the chance to escape. Since changing his fighting style, the Copper Burst has become a close range attack that he can implement in two ways: Holding onto his opponent as he releases the energy or by releasing the energy as Chrome's fist makes contact with the enemy. The second is significantly harder to use, but it is far more destructive.
- Alloy Strash: By infusing his dagger with energy, Chrome is able to produce a slash so powerful and so fast that a shockwave is released empowering the strike tripling its strength. At a distance the shockwave can stun opponents for a few seconds, and when used at close range it is by far one of Chrome's strongest techniques.
Support:- Bronze Gate: Chrome's primary support ability. He is able to transfer energy into another machine/reploid/etc through physical contact. He uses this ability to recharge depleted power cells and restore stamina to the weary. Chrome has also developed a "docking" protocol where his body can serve as a dedicated power source allowing a partner or ally to draw from his energy reserves without limit to pull off some very big and powerful moves.
- Cobalt Wing: By using the energy gathered by the Chromoly System, Chrome is able to create a construct of energy and attach it to his allies increasing their overall speed and agility. The construct is a triangle that gets attached to the back of his allies right below the neck. Blue in color, the construct remains attached until it loses power. At the lowest level, the construct can last for 10 seconds. The Cobalt wing get its name from the faint blue trail of light produced with each movement. When Chrome uses this ability on himself, he does not gain a triangle but rather his mantle takes on the faint blue color indicating that it has been saturated with power and is now able to maintain the burst of speed over a period of time.
- Nickel Tower: Chrome creates a Triangle of energy that he then attaches to his allies to increase their defensive abilities. A barrier envelops the user which absorbs some of the damage dampening the blow. The Triangle is green in color and sits on the left shoulder. Much the same as Cobalt Wing, the triangle remains attached as long as their energy. At the lowest level the construct can last for 10 seconds, with it's length and strength increasing with more power. When Chrome uses this ability on himself his shoulder armor begins to glow green with the power. The armor acts as a generator that produces a barrier to protect Chrome from damage.
- Iridium Hawk: The overall offensive capabilities are increased when Chrome attaches the white triangle onto the right shoulder. The same rules apply to this ability that applied to Nickel Tower and Cobalt Wing. The construct remains active for as long as there is energy to power it. At its lowest level the construct can last for 10 seconds with the length and strength of the ability increasing with more power. When Chrome uses this ability on himself his gauntlets are infused with power. His overall offensive capabilities are increased, and when he strikes the outline of a hawk's head is produced by the trails of light.
