”So, what can I do for an esteemed member of the Crossroad colonial government?”
“As you may know, there has been unusual military activity near our colony.”
“Martians?”
“Maybe. They are too organized to be pirates. Personnel, weapons, mobile suits, and warships.”
“Have they identified themselves?
“No. They are not flying any colors. That bothers me. Our colony is ill equipped to deal with an army of this size. That’s why I’m asking for your help. I beg of you: Drive these invaders away from our colony.”
“We’re not a deterrent. If the UFSS catches onto this, we could be facing the greatest international crisis of the century. You’re going to have to pressure your government for a diplomatic solution.”
“He knows. I know he knows. He chose to do nothing about it. I don’t understand why. Maybe he’s working with them.”
“I have heard rumors about you. You’re not like the others. You don’t take peace for granted.”
“That’s right, but only after every other option is exhausted.”
“Peace is no longer an option. Whoever they are, they are planning something, and they’re doing it just outside your jurisdiction. You can either stand aside while your enemies seek the advantage or stop them now before they act.”
Plot Cosmic Era 190. It has been nearly 120 years since the end of the Space Wars. Humanity was given its new lease on civilization. Blue Cosmos, a nebulous organization at the center of political and socioeconomic control, were usurped from their throne by Leonard Le’Chevalier and destroyed by the Fourth Army. Within this sudden vacuum of influence, hundreds of segmented borders and political ideologies were created.
Earth, uprooted from exterior influence, became the home of the United Federation of Sovereign States, an organization meant to succeed the defunct Earth Alliance. At the center of this governing body were a group of monarchs and aristocrats dedicated to the firmament of a united mankind. For decades, they enjoyed an economic boom created by an entire generation eager to rebuild.
Mars became the home of the Ares Syndicate, a loose alliance of expansive mining and weapons conglomerates who sought to expand their wealth and their sphere of influence. After the destruction of their predecessors, they established a group in exile far beyond the borders of their old enemies.
Similar to the American West of the last era, the Provinciae colonies are home to the lawless, the ambitious, the desperate, the opportunistic and the unwanted. It is here that the roots of human conflict continue to flourish. Every day life is a struggle, and the rule of law is seldom found. Here, there are no pretenses about human progress. When the pirates are not reaping, the nobles who rule the Provinciae colonies continue to scheme, extort, and subjugate their entire populations.
The Crossroad Incident became the flashpoint. Rumors began to circulate about Martian presence on the remote Crossroad Colony; a critical buffer between the Moon and Mars. A special group, the Deep Space Reconnaissance Force, led by Commander Marcellus Zhang, was mobilized to investigate.
Within two months, it was determined that there was an armed insurrection, led by the Martians against the colonial government, was transpiring. Marcellus ordered a strike on the colony. A free for all between DSRF, the Crossroad Militia, and a group of pirates and mercenaries quickly became a struggle for survival. When the dust settled, Marcellus was gone and the entire colony was leveled.
With no deterrent mechanism, the existing powers could only watch helplessly as diplomacy halted. Once again, we tread upon dark waters while reminding ourselves that nothing, not even the peace that our ancestors fought for, would last forever. On the old stage of human history, new actors emerge.
Our story begins one year later on the distant Provinciae colony of Sicilia-the last beacon of civilization within the outer colonies. Here, beyond the control of the greater powers, there exists the inevitability of human struggle; A memento to all human civilization past, present, and future. Within the primordial soup of chaos, another conflict is born. Individuals and ideals, both new and old, are drawn to it.
Glossary Ares Syndicate: As the only authority on Mars, the Ares Syndicate holds a monopoly on the lucrative mining trade on the planet. Despite their small population, they have used their amassed wealth to build a miniature empire on the red planet-using their funds to invest in high end mobile suit research and development. At the center of their core ideology is an actuating belief of supremacy over Earth, much to the dismay of the latter.
Colloid Technology: A field of the application to synthetic particles which can produce powerful electric fields. They serve as the basis for powering, propelling, protecting, and augmenting next generation mobile suits. I-Fields, Mirage Colloid, Beam Smartguns, Beam Shields, and Colloid Engines are all products of this technology, and are seldom found in older mobile suit designs.
The Corpse Brigade: A nickname given to a rumored special forces unit within the Ares Syndicate, which acts as their arm in international enforcement. Headed by the enigmatic masked man Dision, they are feared for their supposed ruthlessness. The existence of this organization and its involvement at Crossroad remains central to the dispute between the UFSS and the AS.
Crossroad Incident: An event referring to the destruction of the Crossroad Colony- located on the fragile no-man’s-land between Luna and Mars. It ended with the sudden destruction of Crossroad one year ago. There is no single narrative for explaining what happened, in the wave of accusations, but both the UFSS and the AS accuse each other of foul play.
Earth Sphere: Collectively, a location that refers to the Earth, the Moon, and the inner colonies.
The First Space War: A generalized term used to describe the chaotic period towards the end of the 1st Century. A war between Naturals and Coordinators broke out over the Bloody Valentine Massacre; The destruction of an entire colony through deployment of nuclear weapons. It continued to escalate until The Tyrant Leonard L’Chevalier used GENESIS, a gamma ray burst super weapon, to destroy the Earth Alliance government in North America. Due to the use of electromagnetic pulse, virtually all historical records prior to the conflict were destroyed.
Flux Catapults: After the use of GENESIS catapults was banned at the end of the of the Second Space War, Flux Catapults quickly went into development as a possible solution to interstellar commerce. It works by inserting a charged sail of a warship into a heavy Colloid particle field, and then using Lorentz Force to quickly accelerate/decelerate the vessel when passing through it.
The Fourth Army: A legacy paramilitary organization originally founded by The Champion Rheanne Wallace. Although they exist outside of any national jurisdiction, they sometimes act as a medium for the United Federation of Sovereign States and the various pirate organizations. They are self described mercenaries, but they have a definite lean towards counter-terrorism operations well outside the jurisdiction of the UFSS. For this reason, they remain in good standing with many of the colonies. They are led by the enigmatic figure: Morpheus.
Gundam: A word that has lost meaning over time. Originally, it was used to describe specialized mobile suits, of various shapes and sizes, that fought in the previous Space Wars. These high performance machines became pivotal in the ongoing conflict between Natural and Coordinators. The Gundams later became synonymous with discord and rebellion, and were shunned upon during the post war disarmament.
Mobile Armor: A non-humanoid mobile weapon that preceded the mobile suit. Originally used as a space superiority fighter for the Earth Alliance, it continued to evolve with the influx of mobile suit technology into large, fearsome weapons capable of massive scales of destruction. Today, they are primarily used by the ANTOSS for deep space reconnaissance.
Mobile Suit: A humanoid weapon pioneered at the beginning of the First Space War. Originally used to maintain a military advantage for the smaller ZAFT army, it became the staple of every military force since. They are versatile; Designed to carry a variety of weapons and operate in various environments. They can engage opponents at any range, and are especially effective in zero gravity environments. Virtually every nation, colony, paramilitary, and criminal organization have mobile suits, making them exceedingly common. However, due to the age and diversity of mobile suit designs, their capabilities and performance can greatly vary. With the advent of Colloid Technology, the latest models are, internally, completely different from their ancestors.
The Second Space War: A conflict that emerged in almost immediate succession to the First Space War as a result of an ongoing political crisis on Earth. With the Earth Alliance government destabilized, the South American revolutionary movement, Southern Cross, went into open rebellion with demands for independence. The Earth Alliance mobilized its armies with orders to put down the rebellion. ZAFT, seeing a return of its previous nemesis, backed the rebellion and soared into another open war, which ended with the death of The Champion Rheanne Wallace.
United Federation of Sovereign States: A loose alliance of the nations of Earth and the remaining colonies of the Earth Sphere. A byproduct of the Treaty of Kaguya, it became the organizational medium to maintaining diplomacy between all nations as a damper to any future conflict. At the center of the UFSS are influential aristocracies that predate the Cosmic Era.
Anti-Terrorism Order of the Sovereign States: ANTOSS, for short. This organization is the successor to the DSRF, which was disbanded shortly after the Crossroad Colony Incident.
Sicilia: Sicilia is the newest and the largest of the Provinciae colonies, with a population of over 6 million. It remains as the economic and political nexus for the frontier. The demagogue Mayor of Sicilia, Edward Graves, intends to use his home colony as a staging ground for nation building.
Sicliian Legion: The largest military influence in the Asteroid Belt. Although their main objective is the protection of their colony, they have become increasingly active in aiding the defense of other colonies, running interdiction operations on pirates, and enforcing the informal borders of the frontier. Since they are not bound by any armistice treaties, they hold an estimated size a total of 12 mobile suit divisions, a navy, and support personnel. Their current commander is Marcus Severus.
Combat The combat system is entirely conceptual. It is designed to allow players to visualize when they are at an advantage or disadvantage in battle. Four factors help determine pilot outcomes in battle: The overall performance of the mobile suit (acceleration, maneuverability), the type of pilot, the weapons/equipment he or she is using to attack/defend, and the “stunt” bonus made for extraordinary posts/maneuvers. There are several pilot types available.
Hunter/Seeker: Experts at long range weapons and optics. Their ability to hit distant targets is unparalleled. They gain a bonus at firing marksman weapons and enemy detection, but are vulnerable to close combat tactics.
Rider/Runner: Someone who specializes in interception and interdiction of distant targets. They are masters of speed and evasion. They hold a bonus when holding defensive maneuvers, even against multiple opponents. However, their ability to engage and retaliate are limited.
Gunner/Destroyer: Nobody can deliver more firepower than these demolition experts. They can effectively wield multiple heavy weapons, and fire on multiple targets with them. They take a penalty to accuracy when doing so.
Ghost/Specter: Special operations, electronic warfare, and ambushes. They specialize in using mobile suits with stealth capabilities, such as Mirage Colloid, and hold an enormous advantage when launching a surprise attack. They are vulnerable when cornered or engaged by skirmishers.
Duelist/Soldier: A flexible type of pilot that specializes defeating their opponents in one on one combat by any means necessary. They hold an advantage when engaging an opponent in a duel, but are vulnerable defensively and offensively when engaged by multiple targets.
Sword/Gladiator: Close combat specialists. When it comes to using melee weapons, regardless of their size or type, they are unmatched. They hold an advantage when fighting enemies at close range, but are vulnerable in long range engagements.
This is intended as a short sequel to two original RPs I hosted several years ago: Gundam SEED Sim and Gundam SEED Sim Destiny. Since both firmly placed themselves away from the original plot of the series, retreading the plot of the series or Gundam in general is not necessary.
As a futuristic spinoff to Gundam SEED, this is a game about political conspiracy, giant mechanical weapons of death, and gratuitous space battles. As always, the spunky orphans, invincible pilots, and pilots cooler than “Freddy Jackson drinking a milkshake in a blizzard” may face unpleasantries such a decapitation.
Depending on the player count, there are a few factions to join: The Ares Syndicate and Death Corps, the Sicilia Colony and the Sicilian Legion, and the United Federation of Sovereign States and ANTOSS, and the Fourth Army. You are allowed to make multiple characters. Since I’m encouraging a little bit of flexibility for everyone, I’ll allow you to craft your own mobile suit profile if you’re willing to go through the effort and are interested in doing some combat. Keep in mind the following:
Sicilian Legion: Not so advanced. Lots of older mobile suits. Some newer ones, but only built/modified in house by local arms companies.
ANTOSS: Pretty advanced- especially in mobile armor technology. They focus on robust performance over finesse of their machines.
Ares Syndicate: Really, really advanced. Their machines are considered exotic and are forerunners in Colloid Technology.
Fourth Army: Pretty advanced. Competitive with ANTOSS, but focusing on quality over quantity of their builds.
The second option is me assigning you to a mobile suits I’ll be building. These will be balanced in advanced and ready to go. Keep in mind that combat is not mandatory. I'm willing to cater to all types for this RP. This universe is pretty big, but the story itself will be contained to Sicilia the entire time. Not sure what to do? I’m always here to help.
