[16:15 - Inside Styx Base]

Posted Image

It was dark out by the time it came, the distress call having been blinking on the receiver in the guardhouse for at least ten minutes while it's denizens played poker in abject boredom. Commander Wolff sighed as he walked in, seeing his crew regard him with salutes, though he was sure some of them viewed him with about as much interest as a stack of yard tools at the hardware store, it didn't matter. The lupine Reploid went to check the call and discovered what had been missed. Normally responsible and prompt he grunted and left without saying a word, making his displeasure known.

It was ten minutes later the base's contingent had been gathered together by none other than the chief medical officer and self appointed 'inventionist' Gene Replete. There was no sign of Wolff as she gave their new assignment in a giddy tone. She was excited which was usually a bad sign for those involved as it almost always meant that without the strict guidance of Wolff, it was guinea pig time for the new recruits, and a chance to gather combat data.

"We've received a call from Eichel Engineering and it appears they're in dire straights. They need assistance now... or twenty minutes ago technically. I think perhaps whoever turned down the sound for the comm should not try this in the future!" She spoke loudly while holding up her tablet, a wide smile on her face. It was exciting despite the nature of the situation. It wasn't often they had an actual opportunity for real combat and she'd been itching to try out the recorders she'd given all of the new recruits, along with a personal pet project she'd given to one of the most junior enlistees.

"Anyways, we should probably go now... we are wasting time just standing here while they could very well be in grave danger so... off you go." She made a shooing motion toward the garage, coaxing everyone to get in the larger of the two transport vehicles, and also the only one up and running after it had cannibalized the other for parts. "Just cram in there, anyone else is welcome to come but..." She picked up her tablet again as she leaned against the door to the vehicle, holding it to read.

"Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..." She stared wide eyed for a moment before chuckling, making it seem like a joke as she swung up into the driver's seat. But one could never tell with her.

"Anyone else that cares to join us, get in! It'll be a bumpy ride..."She sighed contently, gripping the wheel in anticipation. "Because I forgot to get the shocks done..."

And who knows the last time we actually did -anything- around here...

[16:35 - Inside Styx Transport Vehicle No.1]

The road was uneven, bumps sending up it's passengers every few meters unless they were strapped down and secure, which for any of the new recruits was entirely up to their discretion. Rebellious, eccentric, strange, or foolish dreamers, Styx had ended up with those at the end of the line, but it was damned well going to make due, and in style! Everyone who was relatively new was grabbed for this. A test run to see if basic training had paid off...

There were seats lined on either side and room for the more bulky of their number, along with some reserves of energy, and stock weaponry that they'd used in training, but with the seriousness of this task they'd all been permitted the full use of their normal weaponry.

While Gene drove along the road toward the Engineering Laboratory, singing something whimsical to herself, a smaller female reploid say with her hands placed demurely in her lap as she looked down at her feet. A long scarf down her back and her down-turned visor would have made her look 'cool' if not for the fact her posture was anything but confident. She seemed to withdraw whenever anyone looked at her, though she had an odd smile on her face.

Azhrarn, his raven-haired figure in armor stood out a little too much between the various reploids gathered in front of Geen. Mostly because at first glance it looked like a human amongst the mechanical beings, two of them even shaped like mystical creatures. It took a closer and more accurate analysis of his figure to notice that even him was a reploid. Shaped to resemble a human, he had pale skin, beautiful long hair and rather than the simple and regular lines of many others of his kind, his armor was shaped like an ancient knight's armor. An elaborate draconic tattoo stood in the center of his forehead, framing a black sapphire jewel encased in his artificial skin. But the features that gave out his lack of humanity were the midnight blue orbs he had in place of normal eyes and the pointed fin-shaped ears. The one who build him, apparently wanted to be sure he stood out for appearance.

For a reploid, he could be considered a spoiled one, rather than creators he had parents. Instead of getting trained he had been raised like a child, learning rather than being programmed. For how much awkward it would look for a couple to raise a child with the body of a beautiful young man, they did it. Due to that, to this strange one affection and parental love weren't unknown. His presence amongst the others was something inspired by these parenting figures. He was strong, or at least they said, strong enough to protect people so he had been adviced upon joining the hunters.

"We've received a call from Eichel Engineering and it appears they're in dire straights. They need assistance now... or twenty minutes ago technically. I think perhaps whoever turned down the sound for the comm should not try this in the future!"

Eichel Engineering... Azhrarn had heard the name before, but never indulged himself into learning more about it. He had been more of an archaelogist, searching with his parents for relics of an almost forgotten past, helping them with the excavation site security as well. Yet it was part of the Community and the Hunters where around to help and protect. Or at least that's what he liked to believe. Gene's words usually didn't seemed as much mature as one would expect from a command officer or someone allowed to give orders. With no need to breath and thus unable to sigh, his instinctive gesture of resignation was to close his eyes, lower his head and shake it a little...

"Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..."

"Wouldn't an ambush slow us from providing help to the people at Eichel even more?" He questioned with a curious tune. He was, indeed, afraid to fight but the reploid knew also that at times it was necessary. But combat was a messy thing and of all the equipments he had been gifted from his parents together with his armor, another half of his body he was not aware existing, he had managed to properly master only the swords. The wired anchors' test had been something humiliating and Azhrarn was glad he had choose to try these alone and away from the others' eyes. Knowing the others being better trained than him he didn't really doubted that the Hunters could come out victorious from any sort of ambush, but time seemed to be important.

"Anyone else that cares to join us, get in! It'll be a bumpy ride... Because I forgot to get the shocks done..."

As he boarded the vehicle with resignation, he wondered how many people were actually going to volounteer beside the ones that had been called specifically for the mission. Complaining about people turning the alarm volume down and then openly admitting she had forgot to work on maintenance. It wasn't really reassuring but he had joined the Hunters and there was no way back now. For a moment he turned his eyes on the mass of the other gathered Hunters, somewhat hoping someone, anyone, would tell that he wanted to go in his place. As the doors shut behind him, he realized no one did.

Sitting on a seat, Azhrarn was double checking his swords, the silvery orb of the multi-tool floating around with the maintenance tools out so that if the reploid had found some damage produced by the training session, he could have tried to fix it during the trip. For a split second he looked at the other members of his expedition. His seniors, people with more training and experience than him. He stood silent, believing it wouldn't do him any good to address them as they were preparing as well to face any of the troubles waiting for them at Eichel. Hopefully he wasn't going to slow them down...

...assured they managed to reach the place in time.

It was a rare thing to see the garishly-colored Hailfire Hydra looking like a child that had been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Standing by the poker table, the extra heads had snapped to attention when Commander Wolff walked in with Hailfire herself looking up a split second later and popping off a relaxed salute and a toothy smile at him. Of course, the briefing that followed deflated that smile and was the cause of the sheepish look on the normally cheerful reploid's face. The violet drakaina was supposed to have been monitoring for any incoming calls like a good Hunter should, but the excitement of the other's poker game had become a welcome distraction from the dull chore. However, the curiosity of the two simple AI which perched atop what would have been her shoulderblades kept her from participating; Hailfire wasn't always in complete control of the two weaponized heads,which also functioned as extra pairs of eyes. Their habit of looking at the others' cards while she watched the game, while innocent, could have easily given her an unfair advantage. It was not a game she would play anyway, at least not for items; the aspect of possibly losing a possession drove her away.

"We've received a call from Eichel Engineering and it appears they're in dire straights. They need assistance now... or twenty minutes ago technically. I think perhaps whoever turned down the sound for the comm should not try this in the future!"

Oops, that was her. Oh well, the past couldn't be changed and all they could do was try to turn the situation around. When the order was given to move out she did so, but even if she hadn't already been 'volunteered' Hailfire would have gone anyway. Patrols, as much as she loved the excuse to stretch her wings, had started to get boring. And training, of course, didn't allow her to go all-out. A bored Hailfire was a Hailfire that got into lots and lots of mischief.

Ducking down, she managed to get the bulk of her body to squeeze through the small door of the transport. However, the two heads which gave Hailfire her namesake didn't duck low enough; the fiery horns of one head scorched the top of door but at least avoided actually smacking itself on the low overhang, while the icy horns of the other simply shattered upon impact with it. Hopefully nobody would slip on the icy chunks. The massive wings which gave her flight, while useful for such a task, also had to be carefully and awkwardly maneuvered through the door. She would have much preferred to fly, but it was a better idea to conserve energy whenever possible. After all, real combat brought uncertainties; uncertainties which excited her synthetic blood. Sheepishness forgotten, a grin to match Gene's own was on Hailfire's face as instead of a seat she opted to fall to the floor with a loud metallic clang near the back, allowing room for her extra heads and wings without having to duck them for the trip. A long, snakelike tail wrapped around her multiple times on the floor, her legs forming a diamond shape with the soles of the feet together, while the sharp spade of the tip safely rested in her lap so the others wouldn't trip on it.

When she was sufficiently arranged and the transport began to move with a lurch did Hailfire speak. “So do we even know what we're up against? Scientist going postal, experiment gone awry?” Her voice was raspy, with barely any traces of femininity in it. Of course, if she had been paying attention earlier she would know this, but the proud dragon wouldn't admit such a thing openly. The rough ride caused Hailfire to sway and jump with the vehicle's movements, which only made her whoop and holler with glee like a child in a schoolbus on bad roads. Bumping one of her heads on the ceiling only seemed to encourage her rowdiness, which might catch on and help ease any tension building in the transport.

"So, let's recap... Joined the military because you got floored by one of its guys, stay here for a month and realize how boring it is, still find it miserable even with nothing going on, and constantly being used as a ginuea pig by what should be the doctor of this base... Yeah, you're cursed, Gear." a voice grumbled to himself, not even bothering to keep the thoughts in his head as he stood lined up with the others who were volunteered for this mission.

The kicker? He wasn't actually involved with the cause of this mission. According to Gene, someone failed to report a distress signal they recieved from Eichel Engineering roughly twenty minutes ago, and considering the awkward look one of the Mutos Reploids standing beside him made, they were involved with it somehow. HIS involvement with this particular excursion came as a result of Gene herself, who only last week introduced him to her latest pet project... And as the only person who had unwittingly volunteered themself to venture into the unknown, he was unable to turn the doctor down. Especially considering she was in charge of their repairs... Last thing he wanted to do was anger her and have her cross a wire later in surgery.

Latest pet project being every meaning of the word, the man's hanging head finding its ear nibbled on by a small, black, mechanical critter. It looked like some sort-of worm with ten small legs, all clinging to his form. "Ow! G-Gene, you said this thing wouldn't make a meal out of me!" he complained, before frowning. She said the critter would bond with him, but all it had done so far was nibble at him and take little naps at inconvenient times somewhere on him. It was like some sort-of parasite, managing to attach to him and stay there until it felt the need to move again. He could almost swear Gene was enjoying this more than he should.

"Just cram in there, anyone else is welcome to come but... Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..."

"Yeah, yeah, I know..." he hung his head in defeat, waiting for the others to his side to begin moving first for the truck before he began to follow. Compared to himself, the size of the Mutos Reploids were a bit more varied. The one he assumed whose name was Hailfire was especially noticable due to his additional heads and how tall they stood. The other, Chimera, didn't look a great deal larger than he did, but he was definitely more imposing. There wasn't much else to say about the other girl who joined them, but they looked mostly normal. His attempts to find himself a seat in the truck didn't get far, as he didn't watch where chunks of ice had fallen from Hailfire's head. Stepping on one had predictable results, the Reploid slipping and falling back before slamming his rear on the ground. Somehow, in the middle of the chaos, Nid had managed to deattach from Gear and leap upward, leaving the reploid to fall.

"Argh, crap...! I feel like I broke my ass...!" he groaned, moving to stand up slowly a moment later... Only for Nid to fall back down and reattach himself to gear's shoulder, earning a flat stare from the boy. Yet, all the creature could do was grin wide with menacingly mechanical teeth, a facial expression that, while considered neutral for the pet, still made Gear feel like it was mocking him. It didn't help this trip felt like it would be Gear's first and last chance to ride out into a mission.

"Anyone else that cares to join us, get in! It'll be a bumpy ride... Because I forgot to get the shocks done..."

"Definitely my last..." he added with grim realization. He gave up street fighting for this?

There wasn't much else to say during the trip, the ride every bit as bumpy as Gene expected it to be. Most of the group was quiet sans Gene, who was humming to herself like everything was fine and dandy. Making a headcount in the truck, the male Reploid realized one extra had accompanied them on this mission, though she seemed a bit too quiet and shy to say anything. The silence felt like murder on him, and he was about to shatter it... When one of the Mutos Reploids took the time to do the deed themselves.

“So do we even know what we're up against? Scientist going postal, experiment gone awry?”

"... Holy shit, you're a girlbot?"

It was the first thing out of Gear's mouth, now that Hailfire had broken the silence, and despite sounding raspy and more draconic than normal, all it did was make her sound like an older woman rather than a young one. "Well, uh... Okay, that's cool. Never did get to see others on the base too much. I was usually busy being tested somewhere else like the mechanical ginuea pig I am." he muttered, glaring at the back of Gene's head as he spoke these words. "Maybe I need to lighten up, I haven't been able to cut loose since I joined." he sighed, folding his arms... Before he hissed.

"Will you cut that out, Nid!? I'm not a snack!" he snapped, glaring down at the black mechanical critter beside him, trying to nip at his ear again. Groaning, he looked to the unannounced quiet girl, tapping his leg armor to try and get her attention. "Hey, you. You wouldn't happen to have anything I can feed this little guy, would you?"

Chaos Chimera, like his fellow Mutos Reploid Hailfire Hydra had saluted the Commander only to notice something was off. That's when he noticed that they had failed to pay attention to an incoming distress signal, that's what happens when you put a known slacker on guard duty though.

"Leo you should really pay more attention when I speak." A voice said from seemingly nowhere.

"I was focusing on my poker game." Chimera responded talking aparently to no body. "Plus I thought you said you had it covered, why didn't you just answer it yourself Goat?"

"That would of required me to access the motor functions for your arms, of which you were currently in use." The fist voice stated as Chimera stood up and headed for the door revealing a goat looking head on the back of the otherwise clearly lion-like reploid.

"Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..."

Chimera was gathered with the others only a short while after the distress signal incident. He was certainly not looking forward to going out on a mission. Though his record was bad enough there was probably still somewhere worse than Styx. Chimera entered the vehicle and chose to stand rather than sit. He would of sat but that probably would of meant he'd have to listen to more of Goat's complaining about him not listening.

“So do we even know what we're up against? Scientist going postal, experiment gone awry?”

Chimera was about to speak up, and try to change the subject when Gear beat him to it being shocked at Hailfire being female. A fact that honestly Chimera had never given much thought two, she was just another reploid at the base. Gear also started to talk with the other individual in the back, asking 'her' about food for his pet.

"A goold ol' empty E Can should definitely hit the spot." Goat said again from the backside of Chimera who's lion head was facing the back of the vehicle along with the other passengers. Chimera personally hoped the others didn't hear Goat, especially after Hailfire's comment about an experiment gone awry, and Gear calling himself a guinea-pig. Comments like that bought back memories of events that Chimera would rather not think about.

"Remind me to listen to Gene's suggestions next time, this bumpy ride can't be good on the joints."

[16:45 - Arrival at Eichel Engineering]

“So do we even know what we're up against? Scientist going postal, experiment gone awry?”

"... Holy shit, you're a girlbot?"

Einhorn looked down over herself for a moment before realizing the comment wasn't meant for her. She let out a sigh of relief and continued trying to appear to be part of the background, not speaking up when the other's continued.

"I can add an adjustment to your eyes later if that helps Gear..." Gene added, still singing along with whatever esoteric song she had playing on the transport's radio. I could have passed for popular a hundred years prior, or maybe more but it kept her in a good mood. And it was better to have the one who fixed your broken parts in good demeanor than looking for reasons to cause 'accidental' pain.

I hope this turns out alright... He's never been out on a real battle. My little guy...

"Well, uh... Okay, that's cool. Never did get to see others on the base too much. I was usually busy being tested somewhere else like the mechanical guinea pig I am."

Outside Eichel Engineering, which was coming in on the horizon were figures, too blurry to make out for the usually careful Gene. She mistakenly assumed the danger would be inside as they made no move to approach and seemed simply waiting by the entrance. The few lights she could see were red, night-vision gear perhaps for finding a potential looter. Normal guards...

Why would an engineering station need guards? I wonder what they're making in there...

"Maybe I need to lighten up, I haven't been able to cut loose since I joined."

"That's the spirit! We could get handsomely rewarded for this! Or have a near fatal encounter... Either way we could use the excitement." Gene added as she rounded a corner onto a dirt trail, following the dimly lit path to the facilities. Despite her over-eagerness to get some new data, she was worried for the tiny creature perched on Gear's shoulder first, and the recruits second. It was an over-the-top attitude that served to keep people off-guard and made her more of a caricature for base amusement, she knew it. She knew she couldn't be the serious repliforce scientist she had been. The fact she was even allowed to perform research at all was heaven sent. Still, gotta smile at the absurdities of life. Whoever thought I'd be able to work again after that mess...

"Will you cut that out, Nid!? I'm not a snack!"

The unicorn girl giggled until she saw the man was serious. She had been quietly eyeing all of her comrades, people she knew by sight but no one would most likely recognize her. In a way she sympathized with the other quiet one. Everyone was so new, colorful... It was easier to just fade away sometimes.

"Hey, you. You wouldn't happen to have anything I can feed this little guy, would you?"

"A goold ol' empty E Can should definitely hit the spot."

"T-thanks for that... And here..." a quiet voice finally spoke up. The unicorn themed reploid girl had finally made her presence known. "Because now Gene isn't so focused on using me as a pet project anymore?" She laughed a little then finally seemed to let a weight off her shoulders, glancing to the others in the back with her. A small device came from the pack on her back, once clicked it expanded to show a mass of swimming, glowing blue energy spheres.

"Remind me to listen to Gene's suggestions next time, this bumpy ride can't be good on the joints."

The front gates were open and she slipped inside, the ride smoothing out as they came to where the main entrance would be. But something was definitely off. The guards still didn't approach them. Instead they began to raise their weapons and aim. And the sound of metal clanging as the looters came at the transport from the shadow between buildings filled the air.

Nearby a telltale truck was being loaded with all manner of crates and tools, a lifeless prototype body hung haphazardly over the edge, it's arm dangling while lifeless eyes gazed at the sky. Hired thugs... Two were loading the truck, three more outside with vary degrees of basic reploid weaponry. An emblem on their chest armor gave away a local smuggling group and one the base had dealt with before...

"Alright boys and girls! Here they come!" Gene grinned, shifting the transport into park but also activating the three bit units she had covered in the back, beside where Einhorn sat.

"Alright boys and girls! Here they come!"

"Guess sooner or later real combat was going to come..." Azhrarn whispered as he noticed the others were quarreling about things. He shook his head and once Gene opened the doors of the truck simply slid out of it, dashing for the closest cover he could find. There was no point into a stealth approach as Gene has decided to go full frontal. To be fair, the reploid was sorta scared about the engagement, last thing he wanted was to charge ahead enemies he had never fought before.

One of the thugs noticed him and moved quickly to engage, weapons at the ready he unleashed short and powerful bursts with the hand busters he was carrying in the left one. With no really a cover between him and the place he wanted to hide behind, Azhrarn was forced to do the only thing he believed could save his armored and finely crafted ass...

...going faster...

Relying on the abilities of his body the Reploid dashed forward at even higher speed than before, displaying a surprising agility that explained why his armor wasn't as bulky like many others while Azhrarn wall-stepped to avoid the incoming fire. It took a final push and an acrobatic jump to finally reach the pile of concrete blocks he had picked as cover and assess the situation. It wasn't going good as leaning a little outside cover he got greeted by a burst from the thug who was slowly approaching. To think about how they daringly showed on their chest the emblem of their gang while commiting a crime confused him a little. Didn't they feared the reprisal of the Hunters? Or his faction was so little that they could go unpunished about that? Well it didn't mattered at the moment.

"Will-o-Wisp, Unit 5, deploy..." He whispered behind cover as he extended the right arm ahead, a small orb placed on the armor protecting the back of his hand started glowing faintly and detached itself from the protective gear, going to float right in front of Azhrarn's face. "Alright, now easy, like when using the Multi-Tool..." The reploid whispered to himself, that was one of the most complex features of his suit of armor, even more complex than the Wired Anchors, but while the latters required just tons of practice, the Will-o-Wisp system required a mindset that he hadn't completely aquired yet. He needed to process two set of images, one from the remote weapon system, the other from his own eye sensors. Doing it with one was easy similar to the device he used to craft jewelry, but using all the ones he had a disposal on the armor? The first time he tried his mind went Guru Meditation Error.

The thug was advancing slowly, smart enough at least for not wanting to take chances, the glowing orb moved unnoticed leaving cover from the above, the criminal too busy into trying to flank Azhrarn from a different side than the one he was expected to come in. Gritting his teeth the black armored reploid unsheated both of his swords, a faint blue glow coming upon the blades as they came to life. Silently waiting for his aggressor, Azhrarn started to calculate all the patterns and solutions he needed to take in consideration to execute his plan.

Then stepped forward.

Right as the thug crossed behind Azhrarn's cover a thin beam of light from above was fired by the Will-o-Wisp, not skillfully enough to hit but enough to distract the opponent from his prey and move in search of cover. As the enemy lost balance and aim on him, Azhrarn dashed forward at the maximum speed he could achieve, blades crossed in front of him, unleashing two powerful slashes as he moved past the thug. Surprisingly enough to both criminal and hunter, the former's body collapsed with two huge gaps in the vital areas and both upper limbs cut away by the energy covered swords.

Azhrarn turned to look at his defeated opponent, totally forgetting about the Will-o-Wisp and thus allowing the automated protocol to shift on standby mode, the glowing sphere orbiting in a protective looking way around his body. "I've took it down?" The reploid questioned himself. "Did it hurt for him?" It came only now, the knowledge he had did on another being something he really didn't wanted to be done to himself. While knowning the criminal was going to do him something way worse, he couldn't help to wonder if he hadn't used a little too much strenght.

Or at least if he could have delivered a more painless death...

“Aww, sorry to disappoint you,” Hailfire replied with a tone of false sadness when she heard Gear's shocking revelation, “but even if I had been built to be male I don't think you'd be my type.”

Aside from the usual before battle banter and the occasional bump in the road, the trip to Eichel Engineering was uneventful until they got through the gates and to the building proper. The loud pings of metal-on-metal was unmistakable, and it didn't take a genius to know they were under attack. Oh well, she didn't sign on to the Hunters just to sit on her armor plated bum all day and do training exercises.

"Alright boys and girls! Here they come!"

Finally being given the order to let loose, Hailfire Hydra all but sprang to life, wings slightly flared and tail uncoiling like a metal snake ready to strike. She scraped her way out of the transport's door with less care than she had taken back at the base, the icy head regenerating its horns once it was clear of the vehicle. Taking two strides before crouching down—and with one powerful flap of her wings—the violet dragoness was airborne, taking to the skies where her aerial abilities would give her the advantage. A few shots whizzed past her, puncturing the rubbery membrane of her wings but luckily not striking anything delicate.

Hailfire made a quick aerial circle of the courtyard; the facility looked large, even from the air, and the only enemies seemed to be groundbound. A couple of thugs loading a truck and three scattered on the ground. All the better for her, but the real issue was getting inside the building, and who knows how many of these guys' friends had made their way inside in the time it took for them to respond. The most effeminate member of the crew had already made his move on one of the thugs. Hailfire picked out a lone thug taking cover behind some crates and with this decision, she tucked her wings in and dove towards him.

A giant purple blur falling towards him hadn't gone unnoticed by the thug and he began opening fire. The bullets weren't harmless, they dug deeply into her armor but that wouldn't stop Hailfire. The fiery head decided to strike first, taking aim and was about ready to fire when Hailfire thought better of it, taking control and canceling the action. Instead, the heat seemed to travel to her hands, igniting the armor and the normally black claws began to change color; a dull red, then orange, yellow, and finally a white glow. The air around the claws shimmered, indicating an intense heat emanating from them. She threw her wings in front of her, slowing her aerial charge enough to attack. Hailfire made a heavy swipe with those glowing claws when she got close enough to the reploid, ripping deeply into his chest armor with little effort and leaving molten marks. Another swipe from the other hand quickly followed, severing vital lines which made the reploid cease all movement and fall limply to the ground. She landed on the crate that he had been hiding behind (it was too small for her to do the same) and made a quick assessment of her systems; the damage done had been minimal. Hailfire bellowed in her small victory, a dissonant sound when it was joined by the higher pitched, metallic roars of the other two heads.

~~~~~
The white walls of the facility used to be spotless, giving the facility a sanitized atmosphere, but now it was anything but; now they were covered in blood, dotted with bullet holes and scorch marks, with bodies of the former staff scattered everywhere. The only living beings left were the ones that belonged to the group that had caused this mess. They casually walked the halls, stripping the building of any valuable research and prototypes they could get their hands on, confident that no help was coming.
Or so they believed. They had missed two members of the staff in their rampage. One only wore simple white clothing, signifying that he was likely one of the original inhabitants of the building. A tag on his shirt read “#2 Zweiton”, an odd name. He appeared to be human, with long and dirty blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail and green eyes that held the look of a frightened animal ready to fight. In one hand he held a plasma pistol belonging to one of the former security guards, the other arm being used to hold up an elderly man in a labcoat as they walked. The older man was wounded, a shot to his gut dribbling blood and staining the white clothing they both wore a deep red. He was conscious, albeit just barely. The younger man didn't seem to be injured, though it was hard to tell with all of the blood on his clothing.
The walk down the hallway was slow, blood dripping behind them into an easy to follow trail. Thankfully, none of the attackers had found the trail yet, or possibly just assumed that someone had crawled off to die. It was a less important wing of the building and wouldn't hold much worth stealing and thus didn't have too many invaders prowling around, as it was mostly just staff housing and storage. Despite that any of these rooms would have made an excellent place to hide, Zweiton passed them as if looking for something in particular.
“There's gotta be medical storage around here somewhere..” He muttered under his breath, and was about to turn the corner when he heard it. Footsteps, ones that weren't their own. Zweiton picked up a burst of speed and rushed into the nearest room, quietly closing the door behind them and heading to the back. The sound of locking it might attract attention; he'll do so when the new danger passes. His attention turned toward the door, weapon raised and ready. The room was dark, so when a pair of boots passed in front of the door he could easily see it.
They stopped there, likely noticing the fresh blood on the floor. Zweiton held his breath, pistol still aimed at the door. They must have thought better of it as they resumed walking, until the sound eventually faded into the distance. He let out a shaky sigh and set the elderly doctor down against the wall, finding cover in the form of a metal table and flipping it in front of both of them to form a barricade. That's how the movies did it, right?
“I don't care how many of them come in,” Zweiton spoke, anger boiling in his voice as he stared at the door, “they're not going to hurt you anymore. I'll take them all down and you'll get medical attention, Dr. Eichel.” But the question he had to ask was just where were the Hunters in all of this? The base was practically just down the road, had they been attacked as well?
As if in answer, the sound of bullets in the distance caught his attention. At first, Zweiton thought they were simply slaughtering another survivor until he realized that it was going on for far too long for it to be that. Whoever they were, they were fighting back. The Hunters were finally here!
“Aww, sorry to disappoint you, but even if I had been built to be male I don't think you'd be my type.”
"I... What?" Gear could only quirk an eyebrow and stare flatly at the Mutos Reploid, before he sighed. "H-hey, don't get the wrong idea or anything, I wasn't planning on hitting on you or flirting or anything! It just caught me off-guard you were really a girl, that's all!" he groaned, palming his face a moment later. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, Gear. This is probably a good thing. Get to know your teammates, you're stuck with them for a while."
"... God dammit."
"I can add an adjustment to your eyes later if that helps Gear..."
"I rather you leave my eyes alone, thank you very much!" Gear snapped at the entirely too cheerful and chipper Gene once he was done talking to himself in his mind. She was perfectly happy with experimenting on anyone and anything she decided to, and he was already dealing with her latest project. Adding anymore of them to his resume was going to kill him, at this rate. "I don't know about you, but it's pretty freaking hard to tell what's male and what's female when you can't see the defining traits, you know." he added with a grumble. What those 'defining traits' were, however, were left up to the others to wonder.
"That's the spirit! We could get handsomely rewarded for this! Or have a near fatal encounter... Either way we could use the excitement."
"You're awfully cheerful for someone who said they were eager to get ambushed not five minutes before! Pah, bet the only one you care about is this little guy up here." he grunted, jerking his thumb at what he assumed was a sleeping Nid on his shoulder. The teeth that clamped down on his finger a moment later told him otherwise as he let out a loud yelp, faux tears streaming down his eyes as he nestled the wounded digit. "This thing is gonna kill me long before combat does..." he lamented.
"A good ol' empty E Can should definitely hit the spot."
"T-thanks for that... And here... Because now Gene isn't so focused on using me as a pet project anymore?"
Gear cast a glance at Chimera after he spoke the suggestion, completely unaware it wasn't his main head who had actually spoken the sentence. Still, considering Nid was something of a construct... It was no small wonder the little critter kept nibbling at him. Maybe it had a fondness for inorganic things? "Good suggestion, i'll give it a try when we get back to base." he nodded, before the other girl spoke up. It was at this that Gear eyed her flatly.
"So... Since i'm here, I became the test dummy and let you off the hook, huh?" he sighed, hanging his head. "Well, at least I did someone some good... huh? What's that, pure energy?" he asked, looking at the strange floating spheres. Nid seemed to be fixated on them now, even lifting a small claw to reach for one, and realize he could never reach it unless he went over there. At this, the male Reploid only shook his head, before leaning forward to take one of the spheres. "Looks like the little guy has a thing for energy too." he remarked with a small smile, holding the sphere up to Nid's mouth. In a surprise moment of hunger, gear watched Nid's mouth open so wide, he almost swore he'd engulf his hand too if he didn't choose to flick the energy sphere toward his mouth.
A light burp later told the male Reploid the little guy was now full. "Maybe now he won't be so quick to try and nibble on me." he sighed.
"Remind me to listen to Gene's suggestions next time, this bumpy ride can't be good on the joints."
"Huh? How old are you really?" Gear found himself asking as he glanced at the Chimera Mutos Reploid. "I didn't know machines aged that badly, and if you were that old, i'm surprised you didn't get upgraded... Or, y'know, retired to go relax somewhere else." he pointed out. He was still a young reploid at heart, so he was awfully prone to opening his mouth and sticking his foot in there, usually unintentionally.
"Alright boys and girls! Here they come!"
Gear felt the truck stop as he stood up and looked toward the back of the vehicle, watching it open. The other girlbot was the first to step out, but he lost track of them a moment later. Thankfully Gene had the smarts to keep the back-end of the truck AWAY from the base. Once the dragon girlbot had made her way out next, he was rather thankful he was not on the recieving end of her wrath, at least as much as the poor reploid that had been picked out from among many to be attacked and subsequentially retired in record time. "Y-yeah Gear... That could've been you... That could've been you." he sighed to himself quietly, before leaning back to take cover behind the truck. Turning his head to Nid resting on his shoulder. "Alright, you... So how're we supposed to fight?"
A burp was the only answer he got.
"D-don't give me that! Work with me here, Gene didn't exactly give me an intensive instruction manual for you or anything!" he growled, suddenly feeling cursed with the thing on him. It didn't help when one of the thugs came up alongside the edge of the truck while he was distracted, nearly getting the drop on him were it not for Nid growling and moving his head low. Following his movements, gear ducked in time to avoid an energy saber swing, the blade cutting against the side of the truck. Wasting no time, he balled up his left fist before deploying the S-Knuckle over it, before driving his elbow into the gut of the thug. Not missing a beat, his forearm came up next, an electrified backhand smash flooring the thug and forcing him to drop his energy saber.
"I'm not done with you yet, punk!" Gear shouted, leaping atop the enemy Reploid and taking a punch to the face for his troubles. However, Gear could only grit his teeth and sneer at this, before his own fist came down to strike the enemy reploid in the face. The shock stunned him once more, and it was here he followed up with a chain of left and right hooks, purposefully setting the electricity at low power.. For the next minute, Nid's head moved left and right as he watched Gear's fists swing repeatedly until the Reploid was rendered unconscious. Woohoo, his first victory since joining the army!
... Well, that was certainly a hollow victory, when he thought about it again.
"Alright now... How do I make you work?" he grumbled, folding his arms as he looked to Nid on his shoulders. For a moment, the armored critter looked at him, before looking down between his shoulder and neck... And biting once more. "Ow, damn it! I fed you already, stop eating m-!"
Then he could feel it... A transfer of data? Knowledge? He could see it in his mind, or what passed for his mind, anyway. He could see the command necessary now. "Link established. DNA-Metal, integrate." he spoke out, somewhat mechanically as he stared blank for a moment, before Nid began to slow purple and disappear in a stream of energy. Said stream then began to rapidly encircle and entangle Gear's frame, pulling him into a dim array of energy until it burst outward to reveal the figure inside.
No longer was Gear wearing what passed for his 'civilian' attire, but clearly something meant for war. His round, armored legs looked a bit more angled and narrowed, as well as claw-like around the feet. His arms, originally a bit rounded with the arm armor, now looked a bit slimmer... While being equipped with what appeared to be large shields on the forearms, obscuring his regular arms. An ornate chest, shoulders, and helmet rounded out the design, Gears eyes slowly coming into focus again as he realized he blanked out for just a moment, before looking himself over. "... Nid!? H-hey, what in the name of robot hell did you give me, Gene!?" he growled, attempting to move... And instead falling facefirst toward the ground, unmoving.
"I feel like a brick! And not in a good way! How the hell do I move this thing!?" he growled into the floor, hoping he could be head. At least he could turn his head...
[16:50 - Eichel Engineering]
Watching from her spot behind the transport, the girl known as Einhorn stared in awe as her companions began their assault on the bang of thugs around Eichel. She clutched her arm close, the buster charging faintly as she kept a defensive position. In reality she was afraid to go out and fight. Her body was built more for speed, and often that meant running away, as her armor was negligible except around her head.
"Go go!" she cheered for Azhrarn, but it might have been too quiet for anyone to hear. She was worried one of the thugs would stumble upon her.
"I've took it down? Did it hurt for him?"
She waved at him from her position, trying to show as much support as she could without actually moving away from her spot. Everyone was such a good fighter it seemed. She couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sight of Hailfire taking flight, only to dive in on an unsuspective prey which though getting off a few rounds, was no match for metal searing claws. She looked at her own hands, imagining for a moment such a power could be possessed by her meager frame.
The sudden roar of victory shook her from her daydream and Einhorn almost felt flat on her behind as she scrambled backward toward the transport.
"D-don't give me that! Work with me here, Gene didn't exactly give me an intensive instruction manual for you or anything!"
"I'm not sure exactly how he works either! Only that he seems very happy when he's fed... Look at that face? Can you say no to that?" The voice of his internal com system would have sounded. Something that linked Gene to everyone on the field.
"Azhrarn and Hailfire are both doing quite well out there, it's your turn now." She smiled from her spot in the transport, drumming on the steeringwheel with her fingers. "Just... be creative." While she waited on more data her three remote bots were already investigating the field, working on cracking the security code for the Eichel's main compound.
-Hickory reporting, the first lock has been disabled, now on the second of three- chirped on the comms as Gene's toy did it's duty. The second company to the lock picker was beside it, waiting in case a more suitable tool was needed to gain entrance to what would have been the thug's main target.
-Dickory on standby, would you like some relaxing music while waiting is achieved?-
"Yes please..." chimed in Gene as the 'Ride of the Valkyries' began to play tinnily from a small speaker in Dickory's side.
"S-sometimes I think she's been in that lab too long..." Einhorn whispered over the comm. If Gene had heard it she said nothing, too busy trying to gather data from her pet project to care. Gear had in a way been very right about her percieved interest in this mission.
Einhorn continued to watch the fights around her, her lips pursed in silent awe. As Gear dispatched another thug, forcing him to disarm and land backfirst on the ground she saw the tiny creature on his shoulder start to nibble the man again. "G-gear... are you alright?" She spoke too softly to be heard and chastised herself mentally again for not raising her voice. It was frustrating her and she could feel that strange heat in her joints whenever she had trouble managing her disappointment.
"Link established. DNA-Metal, integrate."
Gene grinned widely, kicking back to rest her calves on the dashboard. She crossed her legs and pulled up her tablet, suddenly getting in all of the readings she had been waiting for, for perhaps months now. It was finally coming to fruition. "Make mommy proud..." She sighed, and it caused Einhorn to doubletake.
"... Nid!? H-hey, what in the name of robot hell did you give me, Gene!?"
"Living metal, with a soul of it's own. Nightmare Nidhoggr Gear..." She traced a fingertip along the touchpad, affectionately tracing over the health icon for NN's status screen. "Feed him enough and you'll be pleasantly surprised...
"Arg!" Einhorn finally exclaimed seeing the newly armored brawler fall face down in the dirt. "You never tested this did you Replete! How the hell is he..." Her eyes flickered toward an incoming shooter, the shots coming scarily close to her head until she ducked down, close to Gear himself.
I'm not a fighter... I'm not a fighter... I should have stayed in the truck. I didn't and now I...
She closed her eyes and held out her buster arm, waving it in every direction as she let lose a series of energy blasts. One barely missed the canopy of the transport, another shattered a window on Eichel's second floor. Another actually got close enough to one of the thugs he had to dodge. "Don't come near here... I'll s-shoot!"
