[16:15 - Inside Styx Base]

Posted Image

It was dark out by the time it came, the distress call having been blinking on the receiver in the guardhouse for at least ten minutes while it's denizens played poker in abject boredom. Commander Wolff sighed as he walked in, seeing his crew regard him with salutes, though he was sure some of them viewed him with about as much interest as a stack of yard tools at the hardware store, it didn't matter. The lupine Reploid went to check the call and discovered what had been missed. Normally responsible and prompt he grunted and left without saying a word, making his displeasure known.

It was ten minutes later the base's contingent had been gathered together by none other than the chief medical officer and self appointed 'inventionist' Gene Replete. There was no sign of Wolff as she gave their new assignment in a giddy tone. She was excited which was usually a bad sign for those involved as it almost always meant that without the strict guidance of Wolff, it was guinea pig time for the new recruits, and a chance to gather combat data.

"We've received a call from Eichel Engineering and it appears they're in dire straights. They need assistance now... or twenty minutes ago technically. I think perhaps whoever turned down the sound for the comm should not try this in the future!" She spoke loudly while holding up her tablet, a wide smile on her face. It was exciting despite the nature of the situation. It wasn't often they had an actual opportunity for real combat and she'd been itching to try out the recorders she'd given all of the new recruits, along with a personal pet project she'd given to one of the most junior enlistees.

"Anyways, we should probably go now... we are wasting time just standing here while they could very well be in grave danger so... off you go." She made a shooing motion toward the garage, coaxing everyone to get in the larger of the two transport vehicles, and also the only one up and running after it had cannibalized the other for parts. "Just cram in there, anyone else is welcome to come but..." She picked up her tablet again as she leaned against the door to the vehicle, holding it to read.

"Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..." She stared wide eyed for a moment before chuckling, making it seem like a joke as she swung up into the driver's seat. But one could never tell with her.

"Anyone else that cares to join us, get in! It'll be a bumpy ride..."She sighed contently, gripping the wheel in anticipation. "Because I forgot to get the shocks done..."

And who knows the last time we actually did -anything- around here...

[16:35 - Inside Styx Transport Vehicle No.1]

The road was uneven, bumps sending up it's passengers every few meters unless they were strapped down and secure, which for any of the new recruits was entirely up to their discretion. Rebellious, eccentric, strange, or foolish dreamers, Styx had ended up with those at the end of the line, but it was damned well going to make due, and in style! Everyone who was relatively new was grabbed for this. A test run to see if basic training had paid off...

There were seats lined on either side and room for the more bulky of their number, along with some reserves of energy, and stock weaponry that they'd used in training, but with the seriousness of this task they'd all been permitted the full use of their normal weaponry.

While Gene drove along the road toward the Engineering Laboratory, singing something whimsical to herself, a smaller female reploid say with her hands placed demurely in her lap as she looked down at her feet. A long scarf down her back and her down-turned visor would have made her look 'cool' if not for the fact her posture was anything but confident. She seemed to withdraw whenever anyone looked at her, though she had an odd smile on her face.

"Then come with us and find yourself a bigger purpose that includes your first one. We protect this whole area from whoever would bring harm to it and its denizen. Think about it, protecting the area you'd protect the line inside it. And if some of your friends would be still around, even after all this time, we can look for them..."

"Come with us, you dont need to be alone anymore..."

The glow hovered closer and seemed to bob silently in acknowledgement. It had nothing to truly tie it to that place or to any other, but it had long ago forgotten the way to the beyond that electronic life departed to. And it was now somewhat bound to this world. Einhorn pushed down her anxiousness enough to bring out an empty energy canister, offering it as a vessel for their new 'friend'.

"It's not much but it'll keep you safe while we get out of here... and I think that would be in our best interest..." She spoke, turning her head to see Hailfire arrive down the chute that Azhrarn's fall had created. She looked around for a moment then approached them. Einhorn didn't even see as the ethereal soul drifted inside the container and the locking mechanism shifted into place. It seemed so small then...

“Field trip’s over kids, we need to get out of this building.”

"Err... I know we've got rope but mind if we ask for a ride back up? You're a bit faster than climbing a rope." The smaller reploid asked, having wondered what it would be like to be carried like that at least three times since she saw Hailfire complete practice rescue missions out in the field. She also hoped she wouldn't have to suffer the indignity of being hoisted under arm like a football but saw little way to avoid it.

"Everything going alright up there? I mean... s'getting colder and all but we haven't found anyone else down here except this guy." She turned to point to the spirit but instead found the cannister glowing brightly in her hand. "Well, -this- guy."

"E-EX Attack!? When did I hit A rank!?"

"Hey hey... that requires you to start off on A rank... Silly hunter, I'd give you a D-." The still trashed Pentarius added.

"Crap, crap, crap... What do I do...!?"

Despite a broken spinal servo the mutos cackled, his buster held up again. "You die, that's what you do... You die like the expendable you are. You aren't the hero of this story!"

"H-hey Nid! You trying to get me killed!?"

"Me save food's life. Food not use full capability of armor."

Without the opportunity to evade he knew it would be over in seconds. Gear managed to wall jump over him, dashing with the additional thrust of his armor to get behind Pentarius's back. He didn't bother to raise his weapon, instead looking back over his shoulder with a smug grin. He made a little wave as Nini proclaimed his victory, as if to taunt Gear through his win and say 'You're still not getting out of here alive...'

"A winner is food!"

"You mean i'm the winner, Nid!"

The claws connected, running through Slipstream's armor like butter along the already spark hissing spinal injury. The mutos started to laugh as the his body was torn irrepairably and he was soon enveloped in a destructive field of his own energy as he was effectively retired. Soon his crumbled heap fell to the floor, an eerie grin permanently etched to his face.

-Gear, report back to the south hall, the coordinates are on your wrist comm- Gene's voice crackled. The data from N.N. had been transfered to her tablet from the fight and she was already looking it over as she waited on everyone to gather up. They needed to breach the door to the roof soon...

17:40 Rooftop Exit
Pcs: Hailfire, Chaos, Zweiton, Gear, Azhrarn
Npcs: Gene Replete, Einhorn
Enemies: Grimfirn Gyrfalcon, Rimefrost Raptor

"Why are we doing this kid? Because if we waited for Hydra it just means letting the ice progress further which means it would take us longer to get to the roof."

Gene smirked, as the others finally rejoined them they would be ready to make their escape thanks to Chaos's hammer-fisted efforts, literally. "I means that now that you've been a gentleman and taken care of our current problem... we can now see what's the root cause and if it's friendly or not."

"I bet you hope not because you want more data right?" Einhorn scowled a little, having tucked the cannister safely away in her backpack.

"Of course... we endeavor to improve always!" The scientist lead the rest of the group up and took the honors of opening the door to the rooftop. An immediate gust rushed inside and she was flung back against Chaos, actually appearing somewhat shocked.

Outside there stood two large avian Mutos, One pure white and the other a mixture of blue and gray. They were clearly based on birds of prey and they bore the emblem that the thugs had earlier. "I think we've found the source and maybe the ring leaders..." She spoke softly, not wanting to alert the two who were still seeming to channel the colder atmosphere from units in their outstretched wings. Either faced one side of the building and appeared entirely occupied in their tasks.

The bluish avian was blowing a snowy blast down over the roof while the white was sending out waves of ice and sleet.

"Brother, do we have the last of the prototypes?" The bluish one spoke, still not showing any awareness of the open door.

"All except for one, though chances are it was destroyed by some of the men. Or possibly the hunters that broke in. No worry... He's certainly dead -now- Nothing could survive this..." The white one looked rather confident and his brother nodded back.

"It's not much but it'll keep you safe while we get out of here... and I think that would be in our best interest..."

“Field trip’s over kids, we need to get out of this building.”

"Oh, Miss Hailfire..." Azhrarn turned as well to look at the friendly Mutos. The damage on her body was still evident, meaning that it wasn't something that could be fixed with some sort of field repairing. The knight-reploid was amused to see she had been even able to glide down there with one of the wings not in pristine condition. Another proof of his naivety about battles and the Veteran Hunter's ability to still being reliable even with such odds. "...sorry for having forced you to come down here, forgot I was a little heavier with my armor on..." The knight said as apology, returning his eyes on Einhorn as she spoke again.

"Err... I know we've got rope but mind if we ask for a ride back up? You're a bit faster than climbing a rope."

"That's if we aren't too much of a load..." Azhrarn was quicky to add, still concerned about their senior's well being given the look. "...or you could bring Ein with you and I'll try to follow as fast as I can?" The knight-reploid regretted not bringing his wired anchors with him for this mission, but probably it was for the better. "I'm pretty proficient with ropes anyway..." He added almost in a whisper as memories of his past on the field with his parents came back to memory, a gentle and distant smile forming on his features.

"Everything going alright up there? I mean... s'getting colder and all but we haven't found anyone else down here except this guy."

"Well, -this- guy."

"Oh, he accepted..." Azhrarn said as his eyes followed Ein's hand first pointing to where the blue orb stood and then to the glowing canister. The young reploid had been distracted by Hydra's arrival and, like his partner in falling through roofs, he had missed the chance to see the Soul entering the container. It felt a little strange, weird, to see a soul being hold on such a device, but who he was to comment on how the laws of the World worked? "...he didn't gave us his name..." He pointed out, making a mental note to ask for it later, in a better occasion. "Seemed a nice guy though..."

***

"Why are we doing this kid? Because if we waited for Hydra it just means letting the ice progress further which means it would take us longer to get to the roof."

"I means that now that you've been a gentleman and taken care of our current problem... we can now see what's the root cause and if it's friendly or not."

In the end Azhrarn, Ein and Hydra reached for the others on their way for the rooftop. On the path to join their comrades, the knightly one had been distracted by thoughts about the soul they had found in the battlefield under the building. Fitting to the distant looking traits his mother had carved on Azhrarn's visage, the knight-reploid had been somewhat silent during the most of their trip. The Will'o'Wisps being re-docked to prevent the small bits from falling behind, the swords sheated once more. A random thought crossed his mind, a thought about him needing a cape with some sort of heraldry symbol on it.

He needed to ask his mother, she was big on these things.

"I bet you hope not because you want more data right?"

"Of course... we endeavor to improve always!"

"And to think I believed that educated minds would think of violence about being a barbaric way to solve conflicts..." Azhrarn muttered next to Einhorn, looking to Gene with some worried expression. "...not that the thugs seemed to be cultured gentle-reploid either anyway..." The knight-looking member of the force was naive, but not as naive to believe violence was going to be necessary in some occasions, but at the same time he felt somewhat awkward about Gene's eagerness to enter battle and jokes about fights. "Worried?" He managed to ask Ein as Gene finally opened the door that lead to the rooftop. "Guess that was a rethorical question, one should always be worried while following the Doctor..."

"I think we've found the source and maybe the ring leaders..."

"And they seem to be pretty dangerous..." Azhrarn said with a whisper as he looked to the two Mutos with some admiration in his eyes for their designs. "...cool looking too..." The knight reploid moved his hands to the hilts of his swords, grabbing them but not un-sheating the weapons, waiting for his other comrades to make the first move. It felt somewhat unappropriate for him to take lead charging when veterans like Hailfire or Chimera were around. Nonetheless he had the feeling that this battle wasn't really going to be an easy one.

Still wondering if I'm cut for this work...

"Zweiton youcan come with me a I clear the way to the exit, or you can stay here with Gene, your choice."

“Thanks for the offer, but I—oh.” The chimera mutos hadn’t bothered to wait for an answer and was already making his way towards the stairs. Zweiton was about to say but I wouldn’t be much help with that. Besides, he felt a bit safer with the harmless appearance of Gene; if the others had known they’d likely have gotten a great big chuckle out of that. Soon enough he could hear the ice shattering like glass upon impact with some heavy object. The sound continued for a while, though it did nothing to stop the cold that was continuing to creep in. Zweiton felt like he was going to shatter as well, like that one time a few of his ‘siblings’ froze an assistant’s lunch with liquid nitrogen. He wasn’t around for that but he got to see the aftermath.

Well, this turned out to be the worst day of my life. Zweiton thought bitterly. He had just finished dinner and had been wandering aimlessly when the facility had come under attack. The siren came only seconds after the first shots were fired and it only went downhill from there. He barely remembered grabbing the plasma pistol from its previous owner’s body, everything had become a blur when he realized that this wasn’t a drill. And Dr. Eichel… sure the old man had been bleeding, slumped against a wall when Zweiton found him but he was alive then. He’d kept muttering about something Zweiton couldn’t quite understand, he figured the doctor was telling him to leave him behind. Then the hiding in the supply closet, nearly getting mauled to death by Puffette the Magic Dragon, and now he’s been rescued by the least professional Hunters he’d ever met.

He honestly just wanted this day to be over.

~~~~~
"Err... I know we've got rope but mind if we ask for a ride back up? You're a bit faster than climbing a rope."
"That's if we aren't too much of a load..."
“Pff, nah, I just came down here to tell you it’s time to get back to the bus; you’re on your own for that.” Hailfire then laughed. “Of course you two can get a lift! And don’t worry yourselves about weight; I could carry much, much heavier in such a short trip without damaging anything.”
Unfortunately, unless someone voiced their preferred seating on Hydra Airlines, they tended to get carried like an oversized football. There wasn’t much room on her back for one small-figured reploid to sit comfortably, let alone two. And thus she grabbed both around the waist with either arm; in her defense it was one of the easiest ways to carry two passengers in a hurry.
With the cheery cry of “Hailevator going up!” she shot into the air like a rocket towards the ceiling, leaving the war-torn cave behind.
~~~~~~~~~~

The rendezvous completed, Hailfire and Zweiton joined the group’s ascent to the rooftop where their answers might hopefully be found. The stairway was a bit cramped for Hailfire; obviously this facility was not built to have large reploids in mind.

“I vote somebody stays back and babysits (“Hey!”) our new friend here—no, not the one in a jar. And you hush, you’re completely unarmored and the greenest of the greenhorns.” Sure he had a gun now, but she’d be damned if they went all the trouble to helping him out and he ends up getting killed and they lose whatever intel they had on this place. They probably needed some kind of clue as to why these guys would massacre a research facility, right?

When Gene opened the doors, Hailfire’s wings caught the gust of wind and flared slightly. She was correct; there were two reploids, and airborne too. This might present a problem considering she was the only flier. Meanwhile, in the back of the group Zweiton had already been struggling to keep his systems warm enough to function and that blast of cold hadn’t helped.

"I think we've found the source and maybe the ring leaders..."

“Yeah, and the two bird-brains don’t look very friendly. Or attentive, for that matter.” She added, with a grin. On one hand, Hailfire was probably the worst-off in terms of injuries. On the other, they had the element of surprise plus she could match either one in their own element—the sky. Well, having a fire-type head helped too. Either way, they all needed to get out of the doorway before they were noticed and frozen. With her planning settled, Hailfire elbowed her way to the front with various mutterings of “excuse me”. She fired up her cold thrusters, taking care not to freeze the others, and made a mad aerial charge towards the blue one. The fiery head, though not at the right angle for attack, primed up for when it could let loose.

Let’s get this party started!

Wanna be a pest? Then die like the rest.

Gear hopped back, raising Ofnir infront as the energy was released from Pentarius, almost seeming like it would obliterate the entire room. However, it was nothing more than a sign that he had prevailed over his foe. For a few moments, he had realized he worried over nothing, exhaling a sigh a moment later as he stared at his foe, now giving him a creepy smile of satisfaction, despite his loss to Gear. Come to think of it, he felt the room temerature dropping little by little. Did this guy have something to do with it? "... Hmph, don't like how smug you look even while retired." he muttered, glancing down at Slipstream's face, before shaking his head and looking away.

-Gear, report back to the south hall, the coordinates are on your wrist comm-

Listening to the voice, he could recognize it as her royal pain in the ass. Sighing, he turned his arm over slightly to look at the wrist communicator. Well, all she told him was where to go, she didn't seem to have an answer for the bizarre temperature change.

'Me no like cold. Too bothersome.'

"Well, at least that makes two of us. If I stay here any longer in the cold, i'll probably start spouting off about joint problems like old man Chaos or something." Gear mused, before turning around and looking for the exit. Now that it wasn't very hard to find since he did sort-of force his way through before. A moment later, he was making his way through the doorway, for some reason performing short burst dashes to reach the others in record time. Now if only he could have most of these abilities without the armor on, he felt his life would be so much better.

===

"So, uh, curious question... What's a 'Brood Strike'?" he spoke in what passed for his mind as he followed after the others, knowing only Nid could hear him up there. The armor seemed to contemplate an answer for several moments, before finally replying.

'Me don't know, me only ate data. Not know how data used. Need to give to mommy.'

"I'd find that notion more adorable... If your idea of 'mommy' wasn't Gene or something..." his thoughts went flat, barely managing to listen to the chatter from the others. Naturally, Gene was volunteering them for combat with Einhorn and others seeming a little more skeptical about what they were being led into. Gear was no different... The sooner the mission was over, the better. By this point, Gene was just volunteering them for more trouble than the mission was worth. Though at the same time, they hadn't really found out why they were there in the first place. The moment Gear saw her open the door and immediately start flying back toward them, he sidestepped to let her through, rather than taking the initiative to catch her.

"I think we've found the source and maybe the ring leaders..."

"Well aren't we lucky... Man, nothing ever really goes our way. First some snake mutos and now these two... Who do I go for firs- Oof!" Gear stumbled to the side once he heard Hailfire trying to move and excuse her way to the front. As beat up and damaged as she was, she aimed to open combat against the remaining two Mutos who seemed to be responsible for the artic temperatures, picking out one to deal with. "Well, I guess that narrows my choice down." he shrugged. In truth, he didn't feel so hot after dealing with Slipstream Pentarius, but he still had enough in him to let out a few good blows. He crouched low and dashed forward, leaving short trails of afterimages when he did a sudden boost forward as he pulled Grabacr back and charged energy into it.

"Can't fight for much longer, but... Least I can still knock the birdbrain around a bit."

“I vote somebody stays back and babysits (“Hey!”) our new friend here—no, not the one in a jar. And you hush, you’re completely unarmored and the greenest of the greenhorns.”

"Oh don't worry... I can keep an eye on him." Gene smiled toward Zweiton, holding her tablet to her chest. She looked defenseless yet entirely confident. I wonder how exactly he works anyways... They never gave us much information on what they were doing here. But now he's my only real clue... Poor kid, don't worry. You've got a whole family of dysfunction back at the base for you now. She sighed, thinking about how good it would be to get home again. And to finally get warm.

"And to think I believed that educated minds would think of violence about being a barbaric way to solve conflicts... Not that the thugs seemed to be cultured gentle-reploid either anyway..."

Einhorn held her buster under her palm as she watched what appeared to be two, clearly stronger mutos. By default they were hardier than the average reploid, built to take more of a beating from not only the elements but from physical damage as well. No doubt those two were made to handle the desperate cold they were creating, but they must have been tempered against becoming brittle from it.

"Worried?"

She raised a brow incredulously before he clarified himself, and got a small nod in return, along with a nervous smile.

"Guess that was a rethorical question, one should always be worried while following the Doctor..."

"And they seem to be pretty dangerous...cool looking too..."

As Azhrarn prepared his blades, she could only answer by bringing up her buster and taking aim.

"Well aren't we lucky... Man, nothing ever really goes our way. First some snake mutos and now these two... Who do I go for firs- Oof!"

“Yeah, and the two bird-brains don’t look very friendly. Or attentive, for that matter.”

Hailfire Hydra
- Aerial Dive with Flame-head attack readied toward Rimefrost Raptor

"Well, I guess that narrows my choice down."

Combat

Gear Arclight - Dash with Grabacr readied and charged toward Grimfirn Gyrfalcon

While Gene and Zweiton stayed sidelined, Einhorn let the energy start to accumulate in her buster, gritting her teeth against the anxiety and now chilling cold she felt. If we get out of this alive I will never complain about another maintenance shift in the refrigeration unit again...

Rimefrost Raptor turned at the last possible moment to see the incoming form of a large female dragonbot taking him at full force. She had the opportunity to turn that head around in time to let loose a stream of scalding fire on him if she wanted. He was that unprepared. He shouted out for his brother while skidding along the rooftop until he hit the edge of it harshly, his eyes flaring with indignant rage.

"It's the damned hunters!" He struggled, down for the count though his spread wings lit up along the clearly conductive panels that made the impression of over-sized metal feathers. Within moments the surfaces were brilliant white and a sudden gust of blistering cold came up around Hailfire.

The shouted warning was enough to alert Grimfirn Gyrfalcon they were under attack and he turned to catch sight of a charged buster barrel pointed his way, attached to the incoming Gear. He hissed and stepped back, taking a hop into the air where his wings held him aloft by the boosters on his back. He spread them wide and threw both ahead, slamming them together to form a block of ice.

"Without wings you'll just have to get through my barriers... It's been a while since I had someone to drop into one of my ice boxes..." His beak somehow managed an eerie sneer.

"It's the damned hunters!"

"Well, there goes our element of surprise." Gear sighed as he tried to close the distance on Grimfirn and attempted to lay into him with a charged claw swipe from Grabacr. However, the opposing Mutos realized what was going to happen before he kicked back and into the air to avoid him, instead creating a block of ice before him.

"Without wings you'll just have to get through my barriers... It's been a while since I had someone to drop into one of my ice boxes..."

"Well Grabacr says screw your ice boxes!" Gear exclaimed, slamming Grabacr forward as energy flashed out along the shield point before an arcing sword wave slammed down into the chunk of ice, shattering it with little effort. However, his attack was now wasted, and his foe had the advantage of maneuverability on him. All Gear had was the capability for ranged combat... Which he wasted no time in taking advantage of as he aimed Ofnir up at Grimgirn and fired a small barrage of uncharged buster shots at the flying bird mutos. "Just because I can't fly doesn't mean I can't turn you into fried mutos!" he shouted.

'Fried mutos sound tasty. Food tried?'

"Now isn't the time for this, Nid! ... And no, I haven't tried it, nor does it exist!" he groaned, once more appearing like he was arguing with an imaginary friend that no one but him could hear. At the most, perhaps Gene had an idea of what was going on, and maybe the others could hazard a guess... But to his enemy, he was nothing but a reploid with a few missing chips of sanity. For now, he kept up the attack, trying to strafe to the side to keep both Grimfirn and his brother reploid in his general line of sight.

"They look similar... Any amount of money they're built to collaborate in their attacks, and the moment we let up, we take a hit in the back." he thought to himself, not feeling like he could handle much more than one foe at a time right now.

'Food thought much? Me not give enough credit. Birds look powerful enough separate, not want to see them in tandem.' Nid butted into his thoughts

"Does everyone think i'm an idiot or something?" Gear could only grumble mentally, his eyes visibly narrowing even on the battlefield.

'Only me and mommy, but she have more faith due to Food being babysitter.'

"I KNEW IT!!!" Gear randomly exclaimed amidst the gunfire, forgetting that was supposed to be thought and not spoken.

Chaos watched as Gear blasted the ice to pieces however it wasn't very effective as the energy dispersed shortly afterwards. Grimfirn was agile and would be tricky for Chaos to land an initial hit on though he was certain once he knocked him from the air that it would be easy pickings.

"Goat, your turn!" Chaos said as he relinquished full control to the gruff old man. Grimfirn had created a couple more blocks of ice to block their way. However now was the time for Goat to shine. He slammed his arms into the blocks of ice with enough force to shatter them on impact.

"Gear, Goat will deal with the Ice, you wanna focus on the ice if you wanna focus on the bird brain?" Maybe it wasn't the best plan maybe Chaos should of let Gear deal with the ice while he used his claws. But it was to late, he already issued the order.

"What a mess, your old joints will give out in no time." Grimfirn mocked the old goat as he created another block.

"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to judge a reploid by its paint job?" Goat said and Chaos sighed that was probably the worst line he had ever heard. He was slowly working his way through perhaps he'd beable to clip the bird Reploid's wings.

As Hydra and Gear attacked their opponents, Azhrarn felt a bit of fear crossing his mind. Unlike the thugs, these were Mutos. Stronger Reploids than anything he had even fought, strong as well if not stronger than Hydra and Chaos which had proven to be powerful beings too. And yet it was just a bit, he couldn't say why he wasn't locked in fear at the thought of fighting such strong opponents. He couldn't say why he felt sorta confident in his raw and untrained skills but he felt.

You can do it Azzie, your parents made you stronger than anything you'd expect...

The smiling words of his mother when he finally parted from his parents to start living at the Hunter's base suddenly came back to his mind. Right, he couldn't really hesitate, there were people that gave him life, that trusted his strenght and that had expectation for him. He needed to protect them and to prove they were right in putting their trusts on him.

"Will'o'Wisps from Unit 1 to Unit 4, deploy..."

"It's the damned hunters!"

Azhrarn noticed that one of the Veterans had moved to help Gear. First thing coming to his mind was that splitting the forces evenly was the best choice so he moved to help Hydra. He needed to repay the kindness for the lift as well anyway. Four of the Will'o'Wisps, the ones present on his armsguard detached and started to float aroun him as he dashed sideway to flank Rimefrost Raptor. "Pattern: Berilyum." The knight reploid whispered as target locking icons appeared in front of his eyes and locked on the Mutos.

"FIRE!"

He stopped right as Rimefrost spreaded his wings, raising an arm to help his concentration, as if he wanted to aim with such a gesture to the avian-like reploid. Upon his command, the Will'o'Wisps started to glow and quickly released four thin laser beams toward the opponent, hoping to take it by surprise. It wasn't an attack powerful as a Buster Gun, his parents had developed these more like sniper weapons, but the Knight-Reploid was still inexperienced at using his armor's armaments. And it was a distraction anyway.

"Ein, now!" He whispered in the comm-link.

((OOC: I’m really sorry this is so short, I’ve suddenly caught a case of the sicks and everything takes more effort than normal.))

The perfect position was reached and the fiery head let out a glob of burning goop, sticking squarely to the chest of the raptor-inspired Mutos. The ever-burning substance would take some effort to put out, but it could be done. Hailfire followed Rimefrost Raptor’s movement backward, pushing the offensive.

"It's the damned hunters!"

“Damn skippy it is!” Hailfire bellowed, matching the avians’ furious stare with one that oozed confidence. But that gaze quickly vanished as Hailfire let out an audible “Ah, shit!” when she realized the refrigeration units were charging up. What could have been an easy dodge was hampered by the fact that her tail was missing from its usual place, and so Hailfire took a bit more of the attack than she would have liked due to her systems not being used to the change. She stumbled, the frosty rime clipping a leg and freezing the joints in that limb. Hailfire was a very cold-hardy Mutos, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t completely immune to its effects.

“Well, that’s just super.” The attack had disabled the thruster attached to her lower leg, and her flight was sustained purely from the mechanical action of her wings now. Hailfire risked taxing her systems doing this, but it couldn’t be helped. Still airborne, she readied her spear and jabbed at Rimefrost Raptor, trying to strike his vital systems.

~~~~~
Zweiton watched the many combatants spring into action with awe, the lavender dragon taking point. Of course, awe turned to anger when he saw just who were the ones to blame for the death of his ‘family’. He could try taking a shot, try hitting one of the bastards but… no, he could end up hurting one of his new allies. Zweiton shook his head; he couldn’t think clearly and needed to get away from here. But he couldn’t just angrily simmer somewhere, right? He needed to contribute if he was to survive. Looking at his ‘designated babysitter’, he gently tapped her on the shoulder.
“Gene, was it? I might be able to help with your—our escape route if you don’t mind braving that freezing building again.” Zweiton had to remind himself he was stuck with them now, for better or for worse. “I think I might know of something we can use.”
17:40 Rooftop Exit
Pcs: Hailfire, Chaos, Zweiton, Gear, Azhrarn
Npcs: Gene Replete, Einhorn
Enemies: Grimfirn Gyrfalcon, Rimefrost Raptor
[GRIMFIRN GYRFALCON VERSUS GEAR AND CHAOS CHIMERA]
A strafing run of charged shots from Gear was deftly avoided by the agile avian reploid. Grimfirn was quick to rise up, his wings beating despite the fact his flight came from a number of devices attached to his feet and back. They flared up, surprisingly not melting the ice blocks he was creating from his left arm buster, but blasted a wintry mix instead. The thick blocks were able to withstand Gear's shots, shattering slowly and giving the enemy time to rise up and take a few regular shots of his own in a brilliant white pulse. The scattered ice shot left frozen chunks on whatever it connected to.
"I KNEW IT!!!"
"Arctic Bullet!" Grimfirn called out as he hovered above the roof by at least his own height. He channeled a spiraling energy vortex over his buster which soon sparkled with large ice crystals. It condensed and soon shot out toward Gear. It was a heavy shot of nearly solid ice, but the force applied would leave a dangerous dent in even a tank.
"Goat, your turn!"
As Goat slammed through the wall Grimfirn had tried to create, Gene was grinning from a distance. It was perfect. Their veteran fighters had an advantage here, and Chaos was clearly one of the best choices for who to bring along when physical obstacles were put in place by a foe. He could simply smash them to pieces.
"Gear, Goat will deal with the Ice, you wanna focus on the ice if you wanna focus on the bird brain?"
"What a mess, your old joints will give out in no time." The mutos was already mocking the other hunter that was attempting to mess with him.
"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to judge a reploid by its paint job?"
"She also said don't let your eggs out of the basket until they're ready to hatch, or some nonsense like that. Though I think someone here wasn't ready to leave the nest..." He twisted, smirking with ill intent as he flung out his arm. Like in slow motion it readied and blasted another 'Arctic Bullet' toward Gear, this time flinging him back into the wall of the rooftop stairwell entryway. Nightmare Nidhoggr was still young, still without his full potential and with a squeak he dampened the damage to his host, but in turn suffered terribly for it.
In moments the armor melted away and reformed on the ground from a puddle of liquid silver into the form of a small white worm with ten tiny arms.
"Oh... how strange is that?" Grimfirn stared for a moment, then continued to spar with Chaos who was shoving an ice block back in his own direction, only to be shattered with another buster shot. "I might have to take that as a trinket from this place..."
"Heh... old man, do you seriously think you can handle me?" The shots fired shattered more of the ice and with the precision strikes of Grimfirn was able to launch icy shrapnel in his direction as he began a dive on the veteran, his foot thrusters blazing where a bird of prey's talons would be.
[RIMEFROST RAPTOR VERSUS HAILFIRE HYDRA AND AZHRARN]
Einhorn watched the dive, and how Hailfire managed to tackle Rimefrost even in her current state. But she knew the drakkiana wouldn't be able to take much more abuse, especially as the temperature threatened their internal systems. She could see where the mangled tail was and she couldn't help staring, missing out on the deployment of Azhrarn's Willow Wisps, but finally turning to see when he shouted.
"FIRE!"
The shots were more like stings to Rimefrost's wings, making the mutos shrink back and swat toward the small remote drones in annoyance. He managed to throw Hailfire off but she was preparing another attack already.
“Damn skippy it is!”
He saw she was no longer able to sustain flight properly and gave her a gesture that could have been interpreted as a mocking threat with his fingers. "Too cold for you heh..."
“Ah, shit! Well, that’s just super.” Hailfire had readied another attack, this time using her makeshift spear to drive at Rimefrost's essential systems. He hissed and backstepped, only to find the Wisps still targetting him. He flapped his wings to dissuade them or break them, shedding a cooling wind of sleet toward them that would stop them in their tracks, but leaving him open for attack.
"Ein, now!"
She nodded nervously and raised her buster, charging it to the third capacity level. It hummed and she was so tempted to just close her eyes but instead she forced them wide beneath her visor. With Hailfire driving her point across, she couldn't get a clear shot and instead had to wait as the spear managed to drive into the mutos's side, missing a kill, but still leaving him with a weapon buried in his torso. He swung it as he turned, trying to yank it out as well as toss the one holding it.
"Get off me woman!" He cawed.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Gene, was it? I might be able to help with your—our escape route if you don’t mind braving that freezing building again.”
"Oh? Of course not... I'd love a tour from your point of view..." she spoke jokingly, hiding the anxiety she felt. Nini's readings were off. He'd been deactivated but he was still alive, but if they all wanted to live... she'd have to trust the other hunters to handle things. Still, it left a pang of anxiety eating away at her as she and Zweiton made their way back inside in search of their means of escape, once they dealt with the Snow Birds on the roof.
