[16:15 - Inside Styx Base]

It was dark out by the time it came, the distress call having been blinking on the receiver in the guardhouse for at least ten minutes while it's denizens played poker in abject boredom. Commander Wolff sighed as he walked in, seeing his crew regard him with salutes, though he was sure some of them viewed him with about as much interest as a stack of yard tools at the hardware store, it didn't matter. The lupine Reploid went to check the call and discovered what had been missed. Normally responsible and prompt he grunted and left without saying a word, making his displeasure known.
It was ten minutes later the base's contingent had been gathered together by none other than the chief medical officer and self appointed 'inventionist' Gene Replete. There was no sign of Wolff as she gave their new assignment in a giddy tone. She was excited which was usually a bad sign for those involved as it almost always meant that without the strict guidance of Wolff, it was guinea pig time for the new recruits, and a chance to gather combat data.
"We've received a call from Eichel Engineering and it appears they're in dire straights. They need assistance now... or twenty minutes ago technically. I think perhaps whoever turned down the sound for the comm should not try this in the future!" She spoke loudly while holding up her tablet, a wide smile on her face. It was exciting despite the nature of the situation. It wasn't often they had an actual opportunity for real combat and she'd been itching to try out the recorders she'd given all of the new recruits, along with a personal pet project she'd given to one of the most junior enlistees.
"Anyways, we should probably go now... we are wasting time just standing here while they could very well be in grave danger so... off you go." She made a shooing motion toward the garage, coaxing everyone to get in the larger of the two transport vehicles, and also the only one up and running after it had cannibalized the other for parts. "Just cram in there, anyone else is welcome to come but..." She picked up her tablet again as she leaned against the door to the vehicle, holding it to read.
"Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..." She stared wide eyed for a moment before chuckling, making it seem like a joke as she swung up into the driver's seat. But one could never tell with her.
"Anyone else that cares to join us, get in! It'll be a bumpy ride..."She sighed contently, gripping the wheel in anticipation. "Because I forgot to get the shocks done..."
And who knows the last time we actually did -anything- around here...
[16:35 - Inside Styx Transport Vehicle No.1]

The road was uneven, bumps sending up it's passengers every few meters unless they were strapped down and secure, which for any of the new recruits was entirely up to their discretion. Rebellious, eccentric, strange, or foolish dreamers, Styx had ended up with those at the end of the line, but it was damned well going to make due, and in style! Everyone who was relatively new was grabbed for this. A test run to see if basic training had paid off...
There were seats lined on either side and room for the more bulky of their number, along with some reserves of energy, and stock weaponry that they'd used in training, but with the seriousness of this task they'd all been permitted the full use of their normal weaponry.
While Gene drove along the road toward the Engineering Laboratory, singing something whimsical to herself, a smaller female reploid say with her hands placed demurely in her lap as she looked down at her feet. A long scarf down her back and her down-turned visor would have made her look 'cool' if not for the fact her posture was anything but confident. She seemed to withdraw whenever anyone looked at her, though she had an odd smile on her face.
NOTES Welcome to Rockman X: And Eternity! This is just the beginning but hopefully this mini-arc will let people settle into their characters before we get things really rolling. Remember, you've been around for probably a few weeks so you know the faces of whose with you, even if you haven't spoken much. You can have formed whatever friendships or working relationships you desire, it makes sense when you're sharing in the frontier experience! Or the boredom, or the pain of training ad nauseum for battle that never comes...
Chaos Chimera - Was it you, Hailfire and Drachen back in the guardhouse focusing on your game a bit too much there?
Hailfire: It wasn't your job to monitor the calls that day was it? Maybe you were just trying to keep the others company, shame on them.
Azhrarn - You are probably one of the newest, but you too have been working with these others. It's clear a few aren't exactly new at this, though they may be lower on the hierarchy then the other officers.
Gear: You... have a new friend. He doesn't seem like he's going to eat you or anything but you definitely have something you didn't have before the start of this mission.
Just suggestions! but really, get a dialogue going, get to know eachother and have fun, because things will blow up soon. Gene smiling, it's a sign of doom.

"Get off me woman!"
Azhrarn had watched the attacks being unleashed upon Rimefrost Raptor as they started to sort some effects. As expected his Will'o'Wisps weren't strong enough to damage the Mutos and he didn't really wanted to risk using them in the only way he believed possible for them to pierce the armor. He had practiced it only once and it went totally worse than his not successful attempt at mastering the grappling anchors. As the Knight-Reploid called his remote weapons back to avoid freezing damage, a simple and single path opened in front of him.
There was little time to think about everything else. Hailfire was way too damaged compared to the bird-shaped Mutos. With all the trust he could put in his veteran comrade, it was hard to think the battle being on equal ground between the two of them. One could say it was duty but, to be fair with himself, such a thought never crossed his mind. It was just someone that wanted to help others being in need of help against someone that butchered a whole laboratory, innocent scholars that to his knowledge did nothing beside looking for the lessons of the past. It was just that...
...and yet that, was more than enough to make him step up to the battle...
Zephyr, Breeze. Ignite!
The dormant weapons came back to life as Azhrarn unlocked them from the hardpoints on his waist, energy blades forming around their frame glowing of a blue light while he charged toward Rimefrost from the side he left open when he turned toward Hydra. Once again the reploid was fast, fast enough to cover in less than heartbeat the distance between him and the reploid, stomping his right foot on ground to stop his dash and transfer all the momentum into the double blade cross-swing he delivered not on Rimefrost's vitals but on its very wings. A cruel tactic maybe, but if he was to reduce the Mutos' mobility, then even his retaliations would've be severely lessened in danger.
"Let's finish this, Miss Hydra!"

"How do they make ice so thick...!?" Gear complained, gritting his teeth as he tried to wear down the structures with repeated buster fire, only giving Grimfirn enough time to execute his own counterattack behind safety. Perhaps humorously, Gear's eye twitched as he realized how futile it was shooting the ice, before he turned and began to dash away from the approaching attack, letting it smash into the ground without incident. "Nope, nope, nope!"
He breathed a quiet sigh of relief, while Chaos had moved in and started to go to work on the icy constructs, shattering them with imputiny, and making him realize he still had a long way to go before he could match the raw power of a Mutos. "Well, dang..."
"Gear, Goat will deal with the Ice, you wanna focus on the ice if you wanna focus on the bird brain?"
"Heh! Well I can't argue with a choice like that. Alright, give me a moment, and we'll have one fr- ffffu-!" Gear's sentence was cut short, another Artic Bullet smashing him dead-center mid sentence, sending him smashing against the rooftop entrance before the armor had removed itself from his form, Gear momentarily dazed for a moment as he registered what had happened and why he suddenly felt a bit colder. Sensor-eyes slowly opened as he saw Nid suffering on the ground in the cold, curling up.
"Oh... how strange is that? I might have to take that as a trinket from this place..."
"Nid!" Gear shouted, pushing himself up quickly as he rushed to reclaim the small DNA-Metal entity, scooping him up to set upon his shoulder. Part of him wished he had a storage compartment to store the little thing, but for now, it was the best place he could be. In moments, his little claws seemed to magnetically adhere to his frame, securing him in place.
Me... Really hate cold... Hate cold bird too...
"Yeah, that makes two of us... And you!" Gear exclaimed, pointing a finger at Grimfirn. "You can go scrap yourself if you think i'm going to let you take Nid. If you want him, you can try and take him from my cold, retired body." he shot, raising his wrists to fire Grabacr and Ofnir at Grimfirn while his attention was on Chaos... Before he remembered, he no longer had access to them. "Ah, right... All I have are..." he trailed off, raising his fists and clenching them, flat metal plates flipping over each digit before electrifying a moment later.
Can still win... Bird not kept flying by wings... By thrusters instead. Ground bird, can cook after. Less thrusters, less speed.
"Huh?" Gear questioned, before looking at Grimfirn. True... Despite the beating wings, it seemed that the majority of Grimfirn's flight capability was more due in part to the thrusters. Even if Grimfirn could fly with just the wings, without them he wouldn't be as mobile, and could be caught with greater ease. As an avian Mutos reploid, his frame was probably a bit on the heavy side of things, in turn making the presence of thrusters practically required for proper flight. "... I think I get it now... Well, it's worth a shot." he nodded, before looking toward Chaos. He was under attack by the Mutos now, and every second Gear slacked was one where his ally was taking damage ahead of him.
Raising his finger to his lips, he quickly advanced to Grimfirn's rear side and made a mad dash for the Mutos reploids' back. Hopefully Chaos could keep his attention on the birdbrain long enough to not make him suspicious as Gear crouched and performed the beast leap he could afford. Continuing to rush at Grim would have allowed him to discern his approach by footsteps, but in this way... There was *almost* no sound. While he couldn't be bothered to think of what could be heard, he readied both S-Knuckles for a strike, aimed less at Grimfirn and more at the thrusters on his back. One solid strike, even if it didn't smash them, would leave enough of a painful system shock to render them temporarily inoperable.
'Food do good not shouting like idiot in advance.'
'No, i've just fallen victim to it too many times in the past to realize shouting my approach is a good way to get me scrapped.'
'Well, Food will be Food.'
'What's that supposed to mean!?'

((OOC: Color text? Color text. : D))
"Too cold for you heh..."
Hailfire’s remaining yellow eye narrowed to a slit; that was most definitely the wrong thing to say, judging by the low growl that came from her throat. There were a lot of things she could tolerate, but not a blow to her pride. The ice head, feeling the wrath of its master, snapped angrily at Rimefrost Raptor while the fire one could only growl. The avian deftly dodged the spear—in all honesty she had very little idea how to use a handheld spear-type weapon properly, but didn’t want to leave her tail behind. Of course, Hailfire would never admit being incompetent in anything.
Hailfire saw Azhrarn’s wisps fire an attack of their own, four small lasers which aimed for the raptor mutos, who frantically flapped in an attempt to counter. Hailfire took the opening and tucked her wings in and dropped to give more weight to the stab. She jammed the makeshift weapon into his side, missing vital systems but still managing to sever a few fluid lines judging by the liquid flowing from the wound.
She held fast as best she could while Rimefrost Raptor tried pulling the spear out and knock her away, but she was losing energy pretty fast. Between the bullet holes, the missing eye and tail, and her new iced-over boot Hailfire was simply a mess. But if there was one thing she most definitely had, it was a refusal to die quietly. One of the dragon-heads noticed Einhorn aiming her buster and silently alerted Hailfire.
"Get off me woman!"
"Let's finish this, Miss Hydra!"
“As you wish!” She cackled, using one great flap of her wings to swiftly leap backwards and pull the spear out in one motion. The shot was completely clear for Einhorn and also for Azhrarn to make his charge. It would give Hailfire a brief breather and let the greenhorns get their fun in as well, too. Hopefully Rimefrost wouldn’t notice until it was too late.

"Oh? Of course not... I'd love a tour from your point of view..."
“The tour will have to wait.” Zweiton said sternly as he turned back around and carefully headed down the stairs they all came from, trying not to slip on the slick steps. He didn’t think he’d have the stomach to point out anything other than their goal, really, and honestly didn’t want to go back down there. But maybe moving around would keep him from completely freezing—it worked for humans, right? Zweiton tried to reassure himself that he wouldn’t freeze, since now that the bird brothers were occupied maybe the cold would ease away.
Looking ahead, Zweiton realized the whole place was covered in a thick coating of ice and frowned. Of course. This would make it a little harder to walk around. “Watch your step.” The way to the first floor was completely frozen solid. Which was, unfortunately, exactly where they needed to go. The Ride Armor storage was on the first floor so they’d need to find another way down. After that, he only had a vague idea of where storage was; Zweiton and his “siblings” weren’t allowed in the more potentially dangerous areas of the facility due to their importance. His knowledge of its layout mostly came from the staff and the maps scattered throughout the halls.
He stopped to think. Stairs couldn’t be the only way to move along the floors, there had to be—“The elevators!” Zweiton suddenly exclaimed. In his excitement he took a misguided step on the icy floor and promptly slipped and fell.

17:45 Rooftop Exit Pcs: Hailfire, Chaos, Zweiton, Gear, Azhrarn Npcs: Gene Replete, Einhorn Enemies: Grimfirn Gyrfalcon, Rimefrost Raptor
[GRIMFIRN GYRFALCON VERSUS GEAR AND CHAOS CHIMERA]
"Nid!"
Me... Really hate cold... Hate cold bird too...
"Yeah, that makes two of us... And you!"
Grimfirn pointed to himself, making an almost comical face of disbelief for the accusation, only to bend at the middle and hold his gut, laughing. Not only was one of his opponents a rookie, but the kid was throwing a tantrum over his pet worm.
"You can go scrap yourself if you think i'm going to let you take Nid. If you want him, you can try and take him from my cold, retired body."
"You have any doubt it would be cold? It's like ten below here kid... Surprised your internals haven't ruptured from freezing over." He didn't forget his other opponent and went to throw another two ice pillars at Chaos to keep him occupied, hoping that the volume would at least give the more experienced mutos some trouble.
"Ah, right... All I have are..."
Can still win... Bird not kept flying by wings... By thrusters instead. Ground bird, can cook after. Less thrusters, less speed.
"Huh?"
While Gear discovered a possible weakness for his foe, Grimfirn was noticing he'd been depleting his weapons energy faster than he intended. He glanced at his wrist gauge and grunted, knowing he needed to cool it down a bit if he wanted to maintain flight as well. He needed to take out his real threat while he had time, now taking a direct attack toward Chaos, not realizing as Gear's knuckles came in toward his back at alarming speed. He had poorly estimated the danger in his situation, his back armor chipping and shattering as the fist connected with wires and cables after tearing through that patch of broken armor like tissue. It sputtered sparks and Grimfirn quickly twisted around to regard Gear with shock, this time real.
His buster arm shook as he swallowed and shot a huge block of ice toward Gear point blank, trying to freeze him inside. It would be up to him whether or not he could break it in time... Grimfirn was grounded now, unable to return to flight as long as he needed to conserve his now even more rapidly depleting energy supplies.
[RIMEFROST RAPTOR VERSUS HAILFIRE HYDRA AND AZHRARN]
He was utterly annoyed by the fact he had been wounded at all and was planning on the most terrible ways he could dismember the drakkiana fighting him. The wisp fire blasts to his wings had singed and stung but it was the tears from the spear that assaulted his vanity. He managed to pry it free and toss Hailfire back, only to welcome what was coming from the other two combatants.
He grinned, making a crude gesture at Hailfire, knowing it was now or never time and that he might not be making it out of this alive. It was a necessary thing, making his point so she knew just how much he loathed her. "You silly little hunters... soon enough someone much bigger than you, or me is going to find you and snap all your little necks..." He spat as he pulled his one good wing forward to absorb and mitigate Einhorn's shot. But he was waiting on what Azhrarn would do. He was ready, but wounded. And the wound to his side had been deeper than he thought.
"I was careless but don't think that will let you win..." He was staring Azhrarn down as he made his charge, bracing himself for the impact. It would come down to whether or not the rookie could penetrate Rimefrost's defenses or not.
"You can do it Azhrarn..." Einhorn whispered, likely unheard as she clutched her buster to her chest and shivered. Her shot had been entirely ineffective and now it was up to the most agile of their number to take down the lead thug of the assault on Eichel Labs.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“The tour will have to wait.”
"We'll come back later when we make a full report of..." Gene's lips skewed in a rare show of awkwardness. She didn't know how to help others cope. She was rather backward when it came to any true social connections, even though she tried to give everyone a familiarity in her strange antics. In the end she just nodded as they came to an ice slicked floor.
You'd know what to do, wouldn't you Seele. You're always better with them. They always want to talk to you. I think maybe I really am rather gruesome when I think about it. I wish you were here, it would make this alot easier...
“Watch your step.”
"Thank you." She smiled softly and followed until they couldn't move any further. When his face lit up with an idea she let her eyes widen in question. Was there still another option? It wasn't getting any colder inside but it was still chilled to the bone.
“The elevators!”
"You mean we can still get downstairs to the armor hangar?" She grinned and went after him, only to follow suite and land on her front, her rear akimbo while her chin skidded along the floor. Together they matched in their indignity and she couldn't help but struggle her way up as she braced her legs to keep from sliding. Her memory served her well and it was the familiar sight of two little bit-bots that greeted her, hovering near the long awaited elevator entrance.
"Lead the way Zweiton..." Her expression was one of relief. They would be getting out after all.
NOTES Combat will go for one more post, take some damage, try to figure out a strategy. Then the post after that will be taking these two down and Gene arriving with Zweiton in some stolen ride armors. At least the ride home will be more fun than the ride over... And Zweiton can see just what sort of mess he's in now with his new 'family'.
Azhrarn - Feel free to take down Rimefrost now, then check with your comrades. Chaos - Figure out between you and Xion who gets to kill this turkey, it's thanksgiving time...
Hailfire - You can offer your encouragement but it's time to sit out a little while the rookie gets his turn.
Gear - Your attack gets through to damage Grimfirn, but the final blow will be either Gear, Chaos, or the fun alternative, a team attack.

"You silly little hunters... soon enough someone much bigger than you, or me is going to find you and snap all your little necks..."
Azhrarn couldn't help but be unsettled from these words. It made sense that the Mutos and the rest of the Maverick would have someone to back them off giving how blatant and open their actions had been in spite of the Hunters' presence in the region. For how much of a last moment spiteful talk that could sound there was little to doubt about how much it felt painfully true. Even in his own naivety, the knight-like reploid couldn't really ignore the weight of such words and feel that something big was going to be casted upon the Hunters in the days that were to follow.
"I was careless but don't think that will let you win..."
As soon as he realized that with Hydra in her conditions and Ein's shot being blocked everything rested on his shoulders, Azhrarn felt a series of different emotions. Fear, because he knew that he was a rookie against a more experienced opponent and hadn't he been able to take his opponent down, Rimefrost's retaliation was to be likely lethal for him. Anger rose toward the spiteful attitude the Maverick had toward Hydra, which had been gentle and friendly in her own way toward the two rookies. The weight of responsability was hard on his shoulders and knowing how many sacrifices Hydra had done in this battle to let them advance so far, watching at the damages she sustained made him wonder if he could do it given how the Mutos had to struggle only to land that hit. But it was a hit that managed to slow Rimefrost's movements, giving this only and one chance for Azhrarn to strike.
I can't fail...
"You can do it Azhrarn..."
You're strong Azzie, stronger than you would expect. But mother knows you can put this strength to good use...
Ein's words got lost, overlapped by ones that came to Azhrarn mind from his past, together with the nostalgic feeling of one of his creators, parents he considered them, patting his mature looking head and smiling to him as he was a child inside the body of an adult. And streams of datas. Lots of them, coming to his mind as his own body seemed to teach him about some of his potential while the Will'o'Wisps on his armor started to glow of an evanescent blue light and so did some arabesque-like runes on his armor. While he knew what was going to happen, it was still like a black-box opened in his consciousness flowing within the stream of battle.
"Faster..."
It was almost a whisper, but Azhrarn didn't cared much if him calling his attack was heard or not. By this point whatever happened, he was going to take down that Maverick. Blue energy started to gather around his blades like faerie fire as he took another step in his charge and disappeared to sight due to achieving even a higher speed than before only to reappear on Rimefrost's side already in the process of delivering a powerful twin strike to the Mutos' side, the blades parallel in their path to cut the opponent at the level of waist. Rimefrost blocked them using his sane wing, spinning so that he could deliver a wingslap with it, an attack that forced Azhrarn to parry as the sheer strenght of the blow pushed him backward. A thin layer of ice formed on his armor once he finally stopped to slide back, for cuts appear on his shoulder guards and forearm protectors from the multiple gusts of icy winds belonging to the attack.
"Faster!"
Azhrarn's instinctive protocols kicked in, as the knight reploid dashed again toward his opponent. Reacting to the danger and his mental status, two panels slided form the sides of his helmet to cover his mouth and tip of the nose, leaving only the strip of synthetic flesh around the eyes, that were now burning of blue light, to be visible. Again blades and wing clashed, this time it wasn't for Azhrarn to relent as the started to deliver a series of multiple strikes upon the Mutos, parrying and dodging his counters. Ice formed on his armor before being broke by slashes coming from the fallen reploid impacting on it when the knight wasn't able to parry or dodge. Huge gaps appeared on the wing and the armor of Rimefrost as Azhrarn landed his hits, moving around him at supernatural speed even for a Reploid.
Fiercely, without exchanging any word, the Mutos and the Knight re-enacted the everlasting battle between humanity and wilderness. The fruits of civilization and ingenuity in battle pitted against the instinctive behaviour and proudness of feral life. But Azhrarn knew that he was being to fight on par with his opponents only thanks to the efforts of Hydra managing to damage him before like she did. The knight came his attacks were basic ones coming from pre-implanted protocols and that little improvements he had received by the few months he trained with the Hunters. At the same time he felt it wasn't time to regret and give up and he was required to give his all on this.
"Vanity Ripper!"
And his all he gave, pushing the limits of his strenghts and accellerating even more as the wing that acted as Rimefrost last defense was finally shred to pieces by the furious attacks. A peak of pain coming from the gaping wound at the Mutos side blocked Rimefrost for the small window Azhrarn needed to go for a finisher. With a kick he sent the bird-shaped reploid flying back before connecting the two swords like he had done before, energy glowing all around the blades in a sort of whirlwind that seemed to extend their lenght as he raised the newly formed greatsword to the sky, holding it with two hands.
"Mistral, Over-End Mode!"
The whirlwinds condensed into an impressively long energy blade before Azhrarn let it go, attacking with a single vertical slash, falling upon the poor Mutos. To the eyes of an expert fighter though the attack was less effective of what it looked. Granted, Rimefrost took it all and the roof got a line of collateral damages in the form of a cut over it for the whole lenght of the blade. But the energy had been handled poorly, what could have been a sharp energy blade was turned into something more of a club by Azhrarn inability to balance its energy drain, lenght and shape. There was enough kinetic force on the strike to smash Rimefrost's insides but not enough intensity for the energy to cut through the armor. Azhrarn felt and understood it, and his visage would have paled if he had been granted such a privilege by being human...
...but he was a machine and his skin synthetic...
So he could only stand in front of Rimefrost, looking at him with many of his visage traits covered, his eyes glowing blue, looked into what apparently seemed the expression of a demon ready about telling him to bring on these more powerful beings, that the Hunters were going to crush them. When he turned to look at Hydra and Ein his expression seemed as well unreadable, distant, the expression of someone coming from the old lore's underworld which had right now crushed his opponent...
...how far was it from truth...
Under the metal that covered his mouth, Azhrarn was stuttering about that wasn't what he wished, about how much he was scared for discovering being able to pull out that much destruction. The pupils widened in fear of what he did and regret over the needless pain he had inflicted to the Mutos were hidden by the glow of his eyes, masking his real expression and feeling. Unknown to him his mother had arranged for these instinctive protocols so to protect him from opponents that could make use of his agitated state as she knew very good her child personality. So he stood there, for few endless seconds, close to Rimefrost's almost destroyed body, Mistral hold tight in his hand but without the energy around it anymore, the few remains of it floating around the knight like glowing petals or snowflakes until his mind calmed down and the instinctive protocols wore off.
"Ein, Miss Hydra are you alright?"
Azhrarn was still looking to Ein and Hydra when the eyes stopped to glow and the facial plate slide open revealing trembling lips rather than the evil grin one would have expected. His words were filled with concern as Hydra seemed to have taken quite the beating, red warning flashed to the corners of his vision. Signals that he had used too much energy. Exhausted, both mentally and physically drained of almost everything of his resources, the knight-reploid fell on his knee, using Mistral to hold himself from completely falling on ground, unable to say or think about anything else as he looked at what remained of Rimefrost.

Grimfirn had fired an attack right at Chaos, or rather Goat who quickly readied his arms to destroy the incoming block, however the other half of Chaos took over turning around at the last second with claws fully energized. The block struck the energy claws and they melted their way right through it like it was butter. "Let's play!" Chaos said as his energy blades shone.
Gear had struck Grimfirn in the same moment that the attack was launched, hopefully causing some serious damage. Unfortunately this caused Grimfirn to turn his attention towards Gear and Nid. With a close range blast towards Gear, Chaos didn't have much time to react. He could intercept the attack and possibly get damaged himself, or he could take that moment to strike the cocky turkey.
"Time for some Roasted Grimfirn!" Chaos shouted as he launched himself at the bird who was clearly charging up another attack. As Chaos neared him he thrust forth his energy claws one set impaling the shoulder of the icy bird, while the other slide across the energy gauge on the buster.
"What are you stupid, you should of saved your friend."
"He can handle himself!" Chaos said as he ripped his claws from the shoulder before striking the bird in the gut... "Oh did i miss a vital part again?"

Hailfire snorted at the attempt to rile her up. Admittedly it did a little, but the fact that he was half-dead made it seem more like a desperate attempt to get the last laugh in. Then again, she didn’t look much better than Rimefrost. She steeled her expression and simply said “What a pathetic little child you are.”
"You silly little hunters... soon enough someone much bigger than you, or me is going to find you and snap all your little necks..." "I was careless but don't think that will let you win..."
“Keep singing, little bird” She taunted, “you don’t have much longer.” Carelessness could cost one dearly in a battle and Rimefrost was clearly paying for it. Azhrarn was a mere blur of blue, the wind coming off him a force in itself, as he made a wild, sudden charge for the avian mutos. Thinking it was wise to back off lest she be caught up in it Hailfire hovered further away from Rimefrost. So the greenhorn had a few surprises tucked away, did he? She was not meant for speed; Hailfire was designed to dish out and soak up damage so the front row seat to the fierce attacks and parries was enjoyable.
And like that, it was over. Azhrarn’s ferocity had reached its end.
"Ein, Miss Hydra are you alright?"
“Eyes on the enemy, Azhrarn!” Hailfire barked. Idiot! Her mind roared. Sure, Rimefrost was hurting for sure after that onslaught but he wasn’t dead yet; he could easily deliver a desperate attack of his own while Azhrarn was distracted like this. But she saw the way he fell to one knee and realized the knight had exhausted all of his energy. She softened a little. He had a few tricks, yes, but not the experience to use them; she couldn’t expect too much of him right now. Hailfire moved back in just in case her intervention was necessary, taking care not to land too roughly on her incapacitated leg. The joint protested loudly, but at least it didn’t shatter. Too long without action had clearly caused Hailfire to overexert herself in her excitement.
~~~~~
"We'll come back later when we make a full report of..."
“Y-yeah…” He stuttered. He wasn’t looking forward to that at all.
"You mean we can still get downstairs to the armor hangar?"
Zweiton slowly picked himself off the floor and offered a hand to Gene. “Whether the elevators still work is another story.” He had his doubts about that. Even though the power worked, the elevator shaft could still be frozen solid. The other option was that massive hole but that was too dangerous; if one of them slipped and fell it would be game over. This time he slowed down, reaching the elevator without any more slip-ups and examined the door.
When the alarm had gone off it had been treated as an emergency and so elevators had ceased working as part of the protocol. This one had the metal bent outwards, as if something had slammed into it from inside the shaft, to reveal empty space; the elevator itself appeared to be on the ground floor. Had it not been forced open prior to being frozen, trying to access the elevator would be impossible. As it was, the elevator couldn’t move anyway. Peering down, Zweiton noted that the emergency hatch to the elevator had also been forced from the inside.
“What the hell...?” Whoever it was had sure taken a strange path to get to the top floor. Well, there was the ladder for the maintenance crew’s use, time to take a shortcut down. Zweiton grabbed the sides of the ladder and slid down easily due to the ice built up. He landed on top of the elevator with a loud thud and motioned for Gene to follow before jumping down into the elevator.
Oh. Something had torn into the elevator to get at the staff still inside before making a beeline for the top floor. That was why the elevator and shaft had been ripped open like that. More frozen bodies for Zweiton and Gene to step over, the thick ice making it hard to distinguish who the victims had been.
“It’s safe.” Zweiton called up shakily before making his way out of the elevator. He was visibly on edge and it was easy to tell that he was rushing; he wanted to get out of here as fast as possible without actually resorting to running. Zweiton had basically lived a sheltered life and had never been exposed to any real violence, and especially not of this magnitude.
Don’t look down, don’t look, straight ahead to the hangar. Just look straight ahead. He couldn’t look at any of the glazed over lumps littering the hall, he was afraid he’d lose it for good this time. Zweiton was—well, had been—good friends with some of the engineers down here. He couldn’t tell if those frozen bodies belonged to any of them but he didn’t want to stop and find out. The hangar was in sight now, the door also jammed due to forced entry and frozen open. He made the mistake of stopping to glance at one of the frozen bodies outside the door, standing guard in death.
They didn’t even bother to get their own men to safety. This group’s blatant disregard not just for the lives of unarmed civilians, but for their own people was ridiculous. Inside the large room the pickings were slim; the battle had torn up some of the ride armors and many others had gone missing; no doubt that they were now in the hands of whatever group did this. The rest were either missing limbs and suspended with cables in bays, or in various stages of hardware or software maintenance. Whatever the cause, these leftover armors couldn’t easily be ridden out and were therefore too much trouble to steal.
Zweiton didn’t look too enthusiastic. “We might have to make due with something that isn’t exactly in the best condition. Let’s get to it.”
"Well hey there, i'm the reploid you formerly assumed wasn't a threat. I guess you changed your mind?" Gear asked with a grin, withdrawing his fist and moving to spring off Grimfirn. Change his mind he did, as Grimfirn fired a rather massive block of ice at the reploid. He had been hit by the attack, feeling his frame start to freeze over. At the same time, however, he noticed Chaos rushing in to take advantage of the distraction and deal with Grimfirn for him, which allowed him relax only slightly and not have to worry about dealing with a follow-up attack from the Mutos.
'Me still hate cold very much.' Gear could hear Nid talking to him, upon which he turned his head to look toward the small critter on his shoulder. The ice was still building up, but it was stil progressing slowly. Concentrating on his arms, he triggered the voltage of the S-Knuckles and fed the surge back to jolt his systems a bit to keep him active through it as he tried to shake free of the ice.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Can you do anything else besides talk?" Gear grumbled, raising his fists to punch away at the ice building up around himself/ It was definitely a good thing that Chaos focused his attention on Grimfirn instead of trying to help him. Though he had a harder time dealing with solid ice, it wasn't as slow as it could have been. As he dealt with the ice, watching Chaos deal with Grimfirn made him feel like he was playing with his foe more than actually retiring him. "Uh, hey, just a thought, but can you retire that rustbucket already!?" he shouted, rooted to the floor with ice still building up. As long as it didn't get near Nid, he was alright.
'Food... Me still-'
"Hate the cold, yes, I know." Gear drawled. He still had to hit the ice carefully to avoid shattering his own armor or frame. Whatever made it so he didn't have to deal with Gene's idea of care.
17:45 Rooftop Exit Pcs: Hailfire, Chaos, Zweiton, Gear, Azhrarn Npcs: Gene Replete, Einhorn Enemies: Grimfirn Gyrfalcon, Rimefrost Raptor
[GRIMFIRN GYRFALCON VERSUS GEAR AND CHAOS CHIMERA]
"He can handle himself!" Chaos said as he ripped his claws from the shoulder before striking the bird in the gut... "Oh did i miss a vital part again?"
"Fffeh...." Grimfirn twisted away, but only after the damage was done. He was leaking essential fluids that began to freeze as they came in contact with his ice generators. It was a deadly mix.
"Well hey there, i'm the reploid you formerly assumed wasn't a threat. I guess you changed your mind?"
'Me still hate cold very much.'
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Can you do anything else besides talk?"
Between grappling with Chaos, albeit poorly and glancing over to Gear brushing away the ice formations, Grimfirn was getting reckless. He saw the damage wrought to his brother and knew he was doomed, but what options did he still have? And who could he take down with him...
"Uh, hey, just a thought, but can you retire that rustbucket already!?"
'Food... Me still-'
"Hate the cold, yes, I know."
-Hickory beginning melt procedure, remain calm Gear Arclight- The bit-bot seemed to spring from nowhere and offered a small little hose of heated air to begin warming the crust of ice around Gear's legs. It would go adamantly about it's taste while it's partner drifted over toward the three others.
Grimfirn didn't even notice when he began to slow down. His body was becoming stuck in a more rigid position as his internals washed over with cold and he became as brittle as the ice blocks he so enjoyed fashioning. The coffin formed around him of his own making, only needing one final smash before it was truly over...
[RIMEFROST RAPTOR ERASED]
The shear power exerted by the knight reploid was a bit terrifying to Einhorn who hadn't expect the devastation caused. But she wasn't afraid. It took her a while to even pull out of that state of blank staring while he brought his blade down, along with an energy arc to not slice but crush Rimefrost into the roof beneath. Girders began to creak, metal supports buckling. The roof would cave in eventually and they'd have to make their escape. She only hoped Gene was ready with their rides.
"Ein, Miss Hydra are you alright?"
"I'm uh... I..." Ein blinked, her eyes wide as Hailfire barked. Her hands drew in demurely, her buster ready.
“Eyes on the enemy, Azhrarn!”
The moment Hailfire was up, Ein could see the crushed remains of Rimefrost raising the mangled remains of one arm. His buster was aimed at them and he was waving it, about to shoot before the limb sputtered and something inside sparked. A small explosion later and he was seething on the ground, his body destructing with enough force to blast a small hole in the roof beneath him. The last expression on his face was a malicious grin and a gesture on his remaining hand that could have meant a number of insulting phrases.
Dickory, who had wandered over was already examining Hailfire's leg, his repair tools out as he set about stabilizing the joint enough it could travel. -Dickory has recieved news from Gene Replete that extraction vehicles have been found. Please stand-by-
-------------------------------------------------------------
“It’s safe.”
Even to Gene the scene of bodies piled with red ice was surreal and frightening. Stepping over them, almost tripping... She was as glad to be out of the shaft as well. There had been no precision in this attack, only brute force. And she had a penchant for the meticulous. Nodding she followed after, stowing her tablet in her coat.
It didn't end once they left the elevator. The hallways were littered. There were to be no survivors clearly. She felt her warning senses start to go off, but it was an irrational fear. There was nothing there to hurt them as everyone had pillaged and left. Enemy and engineer alike were everywhere.
"They were desperate to get something and go. And they didn't want to leave any witnesses..." Gene still hadn't pieced it together as it was too dangerous to explore and take account of missing things, but she didn't see any evidence of other androids. Her tablet would have picked up such strange readings but here, only Zweiton was on the radar.
"Oh goodness..." Gene adjusted her bangs and stared in awe as they approached the ride armors. Certainly fun for a romp, and excellent transport in the desert, but any novelty was lost on the situation and it's dire nature. She smiled weakly as she reached out to touch one, feeling it come to life as it recognized a potential rider.
“We might have to make due with something that isn’t exactly in the best condition. Let’s get to it.”
"I can program enough to follow us for the others, but we need to get out now. Can you open the hangar door while I get them ready? I'm not sure where it is here." She paused and reached out to gently clasp his shoulder.
"You're coming home with us."
-Hickory beginning melt procedure, remain calm Gear Arclight-
Gear turned his head to observe the floating bit drone as it hovered in and began to work on melting the ice. It took him a few moments of looking at it before he recognized it as one of Gene's assistants, and he frowned. "Easy for you to say, you're not the one about to become a replopsicle." he grumbled, trying to keep his arms in movement to prevent the joints from cooling. Fortunately for him, the ice seemed to stop advancing as Grimfirn's motor functions began to cease. As much as he wanted to land the final strike, it was all Chaos' job now.
"Dang, I really am a rookie. Still need to get used to Model-NN, and by myself i'm nothing but a brawler. This should be a lesson... Don't try to compare yourself to the Mutos, you're just gonna lose." he muttered to himself, once the ice had melted enough, he sat down, his boot-like armor being all that was left holding him to the floor. His armor had been made brittle now, with only a few impacts needed to shatter it. If combat hadn't ended now, there was a good chance he would have been in need of greater repairs after.
'Mommys' drones so useful. Why can't Food be useful?' Nid toned in Gear's head, causing him to grunt in annoyance, before he breathed a quick jet of inhaled cool air, causing Nid to shiver. 'Me sorry, me sorry! Me hate cold!'
"S'what I thought... Anyway, i'm just a simple reploid. I can't be modified to do additional things like Gene's Bit Drones. I'm no Mutos Reploid, capable of bestial and powerful feats. All I can do is be given weapons and use them to the best of my ability. I'm versatile, but I don't excell in any fields of combat." Gear remarked, smiling slightly, before he shook his head.
'Then me change that. Me make Food into a mighty reploid yet.'
"Yeah? Well i'll believe it when I see it or something. At this rate, i'm not gonna be much beyond a rookie unless I adapt to the armor and know when and how to dodge attacks. I don't know how I ever managed to reach a rank high enough to cause an enemy reploid to use an EX Attack against me." he grumbled, rubbing his head lightly. "He was right though... My rank is probably gonna drop like a brick after this."
