[16:15 - Inside Styx Base]

Posted Image

It was dark out by the time it came, the distress call having been blinking on the receiver in the guardhouse for at least ten minutes while it's denizens played poker in abject boredom. Commander Wolff sighed as he walked in, seeing his crew regard him with salutes, though he was sure some of them viewed him with about as much interest as a stack of yard tools at the hardware store, it didn't matter. The lupine Reploid went to check the call and discovered what had been missed. Normally responsible and prompt he grunted and left without saying a word, making his displeasure known.

It was ten minutes later the base's contingent had been gathered together by none other than the chief medical officer and self appointed 'inventionist' Gene Replete. There was no sign of Wolff as she gave their new assignment in a giddy tone. She was excited which was usually a bad sign for those involved as it almost always meant that without the strict guidance of Wolff, it was guinea pig time for the new recruits, and a chance to gather combat data.

"We've received a call from Eichel Engineering and it appears they're in dire straights. They need assistance now... or twenty minutes ago technically. I think perhaps whoever turned down the sound for the comm should not try this in the future!" She spoke loudly while holding up her tablet, a wide smile on her face. It was exciting despite the nature of the situation. It wasn't often they had an actual opportunity for real combat and she'd been itching to try out the recorders she'd given all of the new recruits, along with a personal pet project she'd given to one of the most junior enlistees.

"Anyways, we should probably go now... we are wasting time just standing here while they could very well be in grave danger so... off you go." She made a shooing motion toward the garage, coaxing everyone to get in the larger of the two transport vehicles, and also the only one up and running after it had cannibalized the other for parts. "Just cram in there, anyone else is welcome to come but..." She picked up her tablet again as she leaned against the door to the vehicle, holding it to read.

"Hailfire, Arclight, Chimera... and Azhrarn. You guys can't get out of this, sorry. But you get the fun ride today! I hope we get ambushed..." She stared wide eyed for a moment before chuckling, making it seem like a joke as she swung up into the driver's seat. But one could never tell with her.

"Anyone else that cares to join us, get in! It'll be a bumpy ride..."She sighed contently, gripping the wheel in anticipation. "Because I forgot to get the shocks done..."

And who knows the last time we actually did -anything- around here...

[16:35 - Inside Styx Transport Vehicle No.1]

Posted Image

The road was uneven, bumps sending up it's passengers every few meters unless they were strapped down and secure, which for any of the new recruits was entirely up to their discretion. Rebellious, eccentric, strange, or foolish dreamers, Styx had ended up with those at the end of the line, but it was damned well going to make due, and in style! Everyone who was relatively new was grabbed for this. A test run to see if basic training had paid off...

There were seats lined on either side and room for the more bulky of their number, along with some reserves of energy, and stock weaponry that they'd used in training, but with the seriousness of this task they'd all been permitted the full use of their normal weaponry.

While Gene drove along the road toward the Engineering Laboratory, singing something whimsical to herself, a smaller female reploid say with her hands placed demurely in her lap as she looked down at her feet. A long scarf down her back and her down-turned visor would have made her look 'cool' if not for the fact her posture was anything but confident. She seemed to withdraw whenever anyone looked at her, though she had an odd smile on her face.

"I'm uh... I..."

“Eyes on the enemy, Azhrarn!”

Hydra shouting at him made the knight reploid skip a beat of his mechanical heart forcing him to look back upon his defeated opponent. In hindisight the veteran was pretty right, he had done something pretty stupid when he looked away from the enemy before Raptor could be accounted as completely defeated. There was fear and horror in Azhrarn when he saw the mutos raise his weapon at his friends, the Buster weapon charging. Due to his distraction it was evident that he was being too late to prevent this. But, even if he wanted, he had no energy for another attack on the Mutos having wasted all of his reserves but the minimal required for his body to function on that devastating and failed attack.

There was also the fact that he didn't wanted to look at how bad he had ruined his opponent's body. What could have been a clean cut to end Rimefrost Raptor's life turned into a smashing strike that lead him toward a painful death which culminated with the explosion of the Buster arm first and the rest of his body after. The ground started to crack and make weird sounds after that, it was easy for the Knight to understand it was mostly his fault. Again, he turned to look upon his allies, a little afraid to leave his sight on Hydra, as the tried to raise himself with the help of his combined sword. The facial mask sliding open making him lose the more battle oriented expression.

"Someone should inform the Doctor that the roof is going to collapse soon I fear..."

The young reploid couldn't hide the guilty feeling from his tune.

Hailfire caught the motion of Rimefrost Raptor’s buster being raised, and—energy reserves low or not—was prepared to intervene when the weapon detonated on itself. The secondary explosion put an end to Rimefrost for good and Hailfire relaxed; it was finally over. And no casualties even with two—well, three greenhorns if you counted the newest recuit. An excellent result, Hailfire thought. The air was already starting to feel ever-so-slightly warmer, the chill having slowed down with the destruction of one of the brothers and the other not too far behind.

-Dickory has recieved news from Gene Replete that extraction vehicles have been found. Please stand-by-

Hailfire rumbled deeply, a low yet seemingly contented sound. She stood still so the little ‘bot could do its work, ignoring it for the most part. She’d be glad to get her tail back where it belonged, though a part of her wondered if she could make a detachable tail-turned-weapon a feature. Maybe she’ll check in with the resident mad scientist later about that.

The sudden lurch of the ground beneath them interrupted her thoughts and caused Hailfire’s wings to snap open in response, her systems ready to take off at a moment’s notice if necessary. When the ground didn’t collapse at that very second she relaxed her stance, but kept her wings at the ready. This building had seen its fair share of hell today and wasn’t going to last much longer, but if it came to that she most definitely wouldn’t be able to airlift everyone off this building in time. That was pushing it even when she wasn’t a wreck.

"Someone should inform the Doctor that the roof is going to collapse soon I fear..."

At least she wasn’t the only one thinking about it. If that massive hole underneath the facility was anything to go by, this whole place might just completely collapse into the ground. “Just sit tight, sounds like our ride is on its way.”

~~~~~
Zweiton was in awe too; he’d never actually been allowed in here and was seeing the monstrous machines for the first time. In fact, he was probably the only one to do so. ‘Too dangerous’ they’d tell them, afraid of losing even a single member of their precious project.
"I can program enough to follow us for the others, but we need to get out now. Can you open the hangar door while I get them ready? I'm not sure where it is here.
You're coming home with us."
Zweiton jumped at the touch. Home was—
Home wasn’t here anymore, he had to remind himself. “Yeah, I think I can open the doors.” While she walked away to get the ride armors ready he wandered off in the opposite direction, looking for anything that might resemble a switch or panel. A massive metal pedestal in the center of the room drew Zweiton’s attention. Brushing the icy dust away he thought it looked important, but also incredibly complicated. Diagrams of ride armors, weaponry, fuel statuses, and so many screens full of data he didn’t even understand; it was enough to make his head swim and he grimaced.
Finally, Zweiton spied the controls for the hangar itself and switched to that. Crane operation, various lifts… the doors! Of course, there had to be more than one so he selected a door at random and switched it to ‘Open’, hoping it was the closest one to them. There was a shudder as something activated elsewhere, then a loud crack and shattering as ice broke. “Wrong one!” He called out, hoping Gene would hear wherever she was. Okay, he thought let’s try door number two. This turned out to be the correct one as the closest massive door, nearly the whole size of a wall, cracked and creaked to life as it opened. Ice rained down like broken glass and shattered the same.
Turning his attention back to the Ride Armors, a whole row of them—or at least the ones that could walk—were ready for action due to Gene’s reprogramming and Zweiton realized it was time to go. He quickly made his way over and pulled himself into one of them quite ungracefully, his legs sticking comically out of the cockpit, and very thankful he didn’t need a crash course in driving as they walked of their own accord. Outside, the air was warming up, another thing he was glad for.
Once he righted himself, Zweiton yelled loud enough for Gene to hear. “How are we getting on the roof in these things?” His question was of course answered when they all hummed loudly at once and suddenly boosted up, knocking him back down from the force. It was time to get the others and get out of here.
"Yeah? Well i'll believe it when I see it or something. At this rate, i'm not gonna be much beyond a rookie unless I adapt to the armor and know when and how to dodge attacks. I don't know how I ever managed to reach a rank high enough to cause an enemy reploid to use an EX Attack against me."
"Don't take it personally but he probably wanted ALL of us dead and you just annoyed him more. Surprised nothing came after me by that virtue..." Einhorn was rubbing the sides of her arms, trying to keep warm somehow.
"He was right though... My rank is probably gonna drop like a brick after this."
"Someone should inform the Doctor that the roof is going to collapse soon I fear..."
"Unless we drop like bricks too? I know our basement dive wasn't planned but I'm hoping we don't end up revisited?" Einhorn tapped her back where she'd strapped their ghost in a can. It was still something that made her uneasy, having a disembodied soul on her person, contently nesting inside an energy tank. If she knew the truth about DNA-metal NN she would have been even worse off for fear.
“Just sit tight, sounds like our ride is on its way.”
“How are we getting on the roof in these things?”
-Please make room. Arrival of escape vehicles is imminent. Chance of being crushed if one does not move quickly to- The bit bot was suddenly punted by the knee of an old, but sturdy jet ride armor. The rest followed after, programmed by some quick thinking on Gene's part to follow the leader up to the roof. Zweiton's was particularly unwieldy and kept trying to keen to the left no matter what adjustments were made.
"Oh thank Light..." Einhorn raised her head, letting the tension slough off as she started to amble toward the waiting Eagle Armors.
"I suggest we all get in and head out before your mess caves in. Good job boys and girls! We've completed for some of you, your first mission!" Gene was gleeful, though the tones of the mission were still less than optimal. After suiting up the call came in through the bands on each hunter's wrist.
Transmission from Styx Base
"This is Colonel Wolff speaking. I have received word you've finished up the rescue operation. We will be waiting to recieve you when you return. Any in need of medical attention can report to the infirmary, Gene will be assisted by Drachen as necessary for repairs."
-crackling and an unhappy grunt-
"Why do I have to play nurse? Was it because I didn't go this time? Because you told me they'd be safer without me there. So I was helping them this whole time."
"Nurse Drachen will be pleased to assist any of you..."
-momentary silence-
"Um... y-yeah. I'm happy alright!"
"Seele, if you can get the forge ready, we may need to replenish our reserves after this."
Gene couldn't help but smile as she perched on the edge of the roof, her bots collected and stowed in the back compartment of her Eagle Armor. There would be time to repair them later. For now all she wanted to do was get home. Back to where the rest of the misfits were, but it was somewhere she could call home.
"Hey guys! Lets see how far we can glide!" Einhorn chirped, taking the fact she was in a vehicle usually reserved for serious military endeavors a bit too far.
"Unless we drop like bricks too? I know our basement dive wasn't planned but I'm hoping we don't end up revisited?"
"Sorry..."
Azhrarn muttered the word. Had been him referring to the basement fall or the destruction he had brought upon the roof was unclear. Both still bugged him a little. Einhorn tapping the can where they had placed their unnamed ghost friend somewhat managed to distract him from the recent mess up in favor of thoughts about reploids' afterlife. It wasn't a great improvement on the mood of his thoughts, but at least it was better than thinking about what he considered a couple of big failures.
The ghost...
This had been his first time seeing one and, even now, it seemed something strange and unexpected to him in these days and ages. It was the proof that reploids as well had something that lasted beyond the existence of their physical bodies. A Soul. Given what he had learned in his history lessons, the existance of this soul was enough of a reason to deny any claim that reploids were inferior beings to humans. True, his parents had already insisted on this point earlier in his life, but they also felt to warn him about the bad reactions some humans had toward machines and hybrid sentients.
“Just sit tight, sounds like our ride is on its way.”
-Please make room. Arrival of escape vehicles is imminent. Chance of being crushed if one does not move quickly to-
The arrival of the Eagle armors suddenly distracted Azhrarn from his train of thoughts, some surprise showing on his visage for how much his distant shaped, doll-like, traits could. He had learned of them in previous lessons, instruments of war that were unlikely supposed to be into a civilians' research center. But at the same time there had been a battlefield in the basement of this structure and some archeological tools. There were good chances that the scientists had excavated them and maybe performed some studies on the armors, maybe to learn about that technology. It explained why they gathered tools to dig more.
Wonder if our ghost friend piloted one of these...
"Oh thank Light..."
"I suggest we all get in and head out before your mess caves in. Good job boys and girls! We've completed for some of you, your first mission!"
Which ended up into a mess...
Gene's mention of what had happened on the roof managed to ruin Azhrarn's mood once more, reminding him of his utterly destructive and equally failed actions from before. Had the roof been any less solid, there would have been good chances that his attack could have been able to destroy it. Or that's what he feared. Also, for how much killing intents that Rimefrost Raptor could have held against his allies, not even him deserved such a messy and painful death. If the knight reploid had any need or mean to breathe, he would have let out a deep sigh by now. But without that he could just wonder if this first mission was just a hint about him not being cut for the job.
The communication coming from his wrist device distracted him once more and brought the knight-reploid back to reality. From what he had heard by Ein and Gear, getting under Gene's care wasn't really something one should wish for. And on top of that Azhrarn had always a sort of refrain from showing his 'naked' body to others beside his parents. It wasn't about modesty or awkwardness, it was more about not wanting to show the work of his parents to outsiders. It had happened before, after all, and some random people comments about what the couple tried to achieve when created him had been the trigger for the first time the young reploid had turned really angry.
"Hey guys! Lets see how far we can glide!"
"I think straight to the base?"
Once again, it was someone else's words that made him return to reality. His question to Ein wasn't even a brag as the young reploid had learned enough to properly pilot these armors in the base simulators. To be honest with himself he still was sub par about ranged weaponry, but the gliding and flight maneveurs came easy to his mind. As if he was wanting to emphasize his words, Azhrarn moved his armor toward the roofs edges and made it jump in the air, letting it fall a little before the warmachine raised in quote, gracefully soaring the skies.
"Don't take it personally but he probably wanted ALL of us dead and you just annoyed him more. Surprised nothing came after me by that virtue..."
"Well, to be fair, no one else really walked in on him. I thought Nid was leading me toward something, you know, worth finding... Then I find out Nid was really looking for a fight." Gear grumbled, looking over to Nid, who turned his head up and away from his partner. The fight wasn't THAT bad, and he came out of it a little bit stronger. Why complain when he got a little bit more power for it anyway? Some rank? Well, to be fair, the rank could have affected future missions for him, and potential rewards- Wait, he was putting too much thought into this now.
"Well, I picked up something from that fight. I'll have to get it analyzed back at base." he finished, looking down at his free hand for a moment. It was some sort-of data... Like a downloaded file with encryption on it. Someone would need to open it and see what it was.
"Someone should inform the Doctor that the roof is going to collapse soon I fear..."
"Unless we drop like bricks too? I know our basement dive wasn't planned but I'm hoping we don't end up revisited?"
"Hm? Sounds like a better time than I had, if it's any consolation." he offered the two, despite the fact that now probably wasn't the best time to offer any consolations. Well, now they were going to freeze to the point of retiring and, if what Azhrarn and Einhorn said was any indicator, falling right into a cave-in was going to ensure none of them ever came out of it unscathed. "Well, it was nice knowing you Nid."
'Food so quick to give up. Must be recurring thing.'
"Hey, bite me. I don't give up that mu- Don't really try to bite me! It's a figure of speech!" Gear quickly protested when he saw Nid opening his jaws, metallic teeth primed to sink into metal. At this point, it seemed like no one had any good news for them, until...
“Just sit tight, sounds like our ride is on its way.”
"Wait... We're saved then?" Gear asked, as one of Gene's Bit Bot buddies advised them to keep away from the edges of the roof, until a large metal knee punted one away. Already from the size, he could see what they had commandeered for their escape. "Oh man, Ride Armors? Seriously? I've never controlled one of these things before, but i've always wanted to!" Gear cheered, as he waited for the armors to land before he raced for one and leapt into the seat. Considering the wait of the machines, he wouldn't have been surprised if it put more weight on the roof, but considering they were almost out of there, he didn't really care.
Familiarizing himself with the controls, he grinned as he looked toward the ground below... And then remembered, he wasn't much of a flier. "Ah-hah... Suddenly I don't feel too good about this..." he trailed off. If he were a human being, he might have been sweatdropping right about now. In the end, however, it was Nid who bit down on his shoulder, taking temporary control of him as he forced the Eagle Ride Armor over the edge and into a glide, leaving Gear to scream helplessly as he watched his uncontrollable body take control of the ride Armor to get it gliding, though still nowhere near as good as any of the rest could have.
Hailfire’s eyes widened in excitement upon seeing the parade of their rides back to base, and was also unable to hold back a toothy grin. “Eagle Armors, I love these things!” She looked like an excited child with a new toy.
"I suggest we all get in and head out before your mess caves in. Good job boys and girls! We've completed for some of you, your first mission!"
“Bravo, greenhorns!” Hailfire cheered. On one hand, no deaths in their ranks. On the other… they lost an entire facility of practically unarmed scientists. It wasn’t lost on Hailfire that this was a bittersweet victory, but the rookies needed all the moral support they could get.
"This is Colonel Wolff speaking. I have received word you've finished up the rescue operation. We will be waiting to receive you when you return. Any in need of medical attention can report to the infirmary, Gene will be assisted by Drachen as necessary for repairs."
Hailfire, quickly realizing he had no communications, relayed the information to Zweiton. “Who is he?” He asked.
“The big cheese of Styx, you’ll be meeting him soon enough. Speaking of, it won’t do for you to come armed since you’re not on the roster.” Hailfire landed on the lip of the cockpit and reached inside. Before Zweiton could put up any kind of protest the pistol was easily plucked away from his grasp. “Give that back!” Of course, him trying to wrest anything away from a robot dragon twice his size and many times his own strength would be a lesson in futility.
Hailfire frowned at the outburst. “I’ll take care of it for you, no worries. The Colonel’s a great guy; he might just let you have it back even if you don’t stick with us.” She tucked the pistol away in a hidden compartment, spread her wings and flew to a vacant Eagle Armor. The android was the biggest greenhorn here. Hell, at least the others were trained; it was easy to see that he’d been living the easy life here—well, as much as a piece of extremely valuable and experimental technology could be pampered. Maybe he’d stick around for his own protection, but it would be up to him after all.
"Hey guys! Lets see how far we can glide!"
“Betcha I can glide the farthest!” Hailfire yelled in reply, assuming control of the Eagle Armor. She braced herself as her Armor rushed the side of the building, leapt off, and began its slow descent with Hailfire’s own wings spread wide in an impressive show. As imposing as it made the Eagle Armor look, it did nothing to affect the distance glided. Meanwhile, Zweiton’s Armor leapt off the side of the building of its own will and glided down with much less gusto, resuming its game of ‘follow the leader’ with the nearest unit. “H-hey! These aren’t toys!” Unfortunately, he had much to learn about this group.
He remembered Hailfire’s words. ‘Stick with us’? That thought hadn’t crossed Zweiton’s mind at all; he was still reeling from the evening’s events, and it still wasn’t over. It all still felt like some kind of nightmare that he’d wake up from it soon enough. He watched the building shrink ever so slowly, and suddenly realized he’d never seen the outside of the facility. Sure he’d been in the courtyard, but there were still massive walls on all sides. The intense feelings of vulnerability he got from being in such a wide-open expanse were enough to make him hunker back down into the cockpit, happily hidden in the floorboards from the passing landscape.
Chaos was relieved that they defeated the two birdbrains, however the fact that the roof was now severely compromised, So standing around and waiting not the best idea. However thats when he noticed several ride armors flying their way.
Chaos gladly hopped into one of the Eagle Armors. The mission had done a number on him, while the bumpy ride was uncomfortable the battle had damaged his arm, and the fight with the birds had caused trouble he was more than exhausted and just looked forward to a relaxing flight back to base.
"Last on back to base buys E-tanks for the rest" Chaos said as he caused his eagle armor to accelerate in the direction of the base.
18:15 Styx Base
Pcs: Hailfire, Chaos, Zweiton, Gear, Azhrarn
Npcs: Gene Replete, Einhorn, Drachen, Wolff
Wolff was waiting in the garage along with his trusted assistant. Or least trusted. Drachen swayed through the stuck door. It had only partially opened before the motor seized. Yet something else for the local mechanical genius to fix, aka whoever was stuck with the shortest straw for chore duty. The austere gaze of his superior made Drachen shrink down two sizes beside him. He reached back to itch beneath his long hair. It was almost pitch black and his choice in armor colors didn't help distinguish him as any more than a dark bluish blob from a distance. Wolff was a better presence in a room. White and black. Simple...
"Report wasn't good was it..." Wolff raised a brow tot he question, then continued to fold his arms in silence. A desert gnat buzzed near glowing lupine eyes, yellow like the moon. No effort to stop it was made and the lack of sound was driving the younger grunt up the wall.
"So... you think I'll get to see Hailfire with her armor off?" Drachen lolled off his tongue, casually posing his arms behind his head. No response.
"You're reaaaaally focused aren't you." A sigh followed the tapping footfalls as Wolff paced away from the source of broken silence.
Well you seem to be a barrel of fun...
----------------------------------
"Zweiton, you'll be staying with us tonight. For your safety. Wolff will want to speak to you, but don't worry. We're just one big... strange family here." Gene laughed delicately, shifting gear in her armor as they made the approach from the east side toward the base's garage. The gates were open and ready to accept the returning hunters and their newly acquired guest.
-Transmitting security codes to base computers, standby for garage access- Hickory bleeped from the compartment beside Gene's driver's seat.
"Hey... no fair Hailfire! You're trained to use these things..." Einhorn called after the drakkiana whose Eagle armor didn't appear to have two left feet like her own. She was spending so much time making adjustments she could barely keep up the race, even if it was an unofficial thing. It was cheering them up and hurting no one. And after the night they had any harmless fun was welcome.
"Hmmm... it's taking a while..." Gene slowed her armor to a brisk walk, not wanting to rush the last bit before the door opened proper.
"I swear I will win one race... just one..." Einhorn grit her teeth and shoved the level toward it's highest perch, speeding like a madman ahead of the pack. She looked back with a proud grin, waving but not paying attention to Gene as she muttered over the comms.
"I think there's some trouble with the door. We'll have to wait a moment..."
"Heh... I'm first... I'm FIRST!" Einhorn shouted at the top of her lungs, turning back to see the door still shut, it's frame shaking slightly as the mechanisms seized whenever the motor engaged. The grinding was lost in the heavy sounds of the approaching truck of an armor.
"Oh shiiiiiiiit!" Metal crunched like tinfoil and an Einhorn sized hole was ripped through the garage door, sending shrapnel outward.
----------------------------------
"You hear something? I think I hear something...." Drachen recrossed his arms.
"Mmmmh...."
"Thanks, I thought so too. You know you really are a fascinating conver-" The reaction time was lacking as Drachen found himself sprinting out of the way of an incoming and screaming Einhorn. "Great metal hand in the sky! She's got a vehicle!"
Wolff had stepped away before, as if having known this would happen. His lips curled ever so slightly at the edges of his muzzle.
The armor stopped dead in the pavement after Einhorn punched it's fists into the ground, but at the same time punted Drachen into a nearby wall of empty storage drums.
Wolff made a note to check on his membership at Last Chance's bowling alley later.
Gene and the others would be able to make their way through the massive gap to see their youngest member's startling entrance. The scientist sighed and carefully walked her own armor up over the debris pieces with an uncanny feminine grace, found a position along the wall to park the craft. She hopped over the edge and descended, then stood at attention for Wolff's quick briefing, waiting for the rest to join her though her eyes darted around as if trying to find someone else.
"Guh..." Drachen hacked and wobbled to meet the rest of the arrivals, looking specifically for Hailfire. As soon as he caught sight he opened up with his usual flirts. Things never reciprocated but still entirely necessary in his opinion.
"Hey babe!" he hollared, "Can I get some tail?" Snorting he found the still disoriented Einhorn's hand hitting the back of his head before she mumbled and moved to stand with Gene.
"Just kidding. I'm here to fix you all up. Got Drachen's magic hands...." He wiggled his hands at the palm, raising his eyebrows.
Wolff sighed audibly in the background.
“Betcha I can glide the farthest!”
“H-hey! These aren’t toys!”
"I swear I will win one race... just one..."
"I think there's some trouble with the door. We'll have to wait a moment..."
Azhrarn didn't really paid attention to the race and stuff as he enjoyed having his eagle armor glide and barrel roll mid air. While others had their fun with competition, he seemed to have the most of his own with acrobatics and speed. As he listened to music from his own helmet, the armor seemed to dance mid air following the rythm when the knightly-looking reploid performed evasive maneveurs, made it take quote and then dive at high speed, almost reaching for the ground before rising and soaring for the sky again. The latter maneveurs making some white hair grow on Zweiton's head, due to how risky these were.
Yet nonetheless he performed admirably as if wind was his own element...
"Heh... I'm first... I'm FIRST!"
"Door..."
While Ein's voice had managed to distract Azhrarn from his flight experience, his voice was like usual too soft and too low for reaching her through air and everything. It was evident that her eagle armor was already launched in a dive too fast for anything to be able preventing the soon to come impact, hopefully the armors were armored enough to withstand the impact with the hangars' gates. For a moment the knight reploid felt bad about not having studied better the specifications of their little base, just a moment though as his attention was soon brought back upon the incoming crash.
"Oh shiiiiiiiit!"
Again, Azhrarn's mind wandered a little as he imagined his father scolding Ein over that not really ladylike expression and his mother pointing out that sometimes even ladies have good reasons to not be ladylike. But once more, that was a fleeting thought as his attention was suddenly brought back to the impact between Armor and Hangar's gates. Hopefully the former was more resistant than the latter, something that seemed confirmed by the visuals given by the collision. Nonetheless it was enough to worry him and send his armor into one of the most daring high speed dives that had been seen by the armor or around the base, barrel rolling to avoid obstacles and allies alike as he reached for the opening that Ein made with her less than graceful maneveur.
With a masterful controlling skill that he didn't ever supposed to have, Azhrarn had the armor land close to Eins one but distant enough from the opening to let everyone else's ride space to maneveur. The gliding armor landed on it's knee, like a knight of old and matching pretty much Azhrarn's habits. He didn't knew why he did so, as most of his mind was taken by the excitement of flying before more pressant matters came to the mind and he jumped to go checking on his friend and their Ghastly aquaintance.
"Are you alright Ein?"
"Hey babe!"
"Can I get some tail?"
"Just kidding. I'm here to fix you all up. Got Drachen's magic hands...."
"Despite appearance sometimes making it look otherwise, you remember I'm a guy you, right?"
Azhrarn couldn't avoid a robotic shiver as he heard mention of Drachen's magic hands...
The trip home was uneventful. Well, as uneventful as a squad of Eagle Armors could ever be anyways. It was a still a sight to behold by the few scrappers that hadn’t been scared off by the nearby fireworks show. Hailfire was torn; as much as she wanted to heckle them she was in dire need of repairs. A busted eye, sliced-off tail, and heavily dented chest armor among other problems were more pressing. Plus, she didn’t like having more people seeing her like this than she had to. She had to always look at her best, after all.
"Hey... no fair Hailfire! You're trained to use these things..."
“All’s fair in love and war!” She called back playfully. However, her eyes narrowed at the stuck doors. Sensing something was off, Hailfire eased off the pedal and let Einhorn and a few others overtake her. This proved to be the better course of action as Einhorn ended up crashing through the door and likely making a mess of the garage.
Hailfire muttered an “Oh dear” as she carefully walked the Eagle Armor up to the door. For a moment she seemed to be examining the damage, deep in thought. “I give it an eight out of ten, Einhorn!” She yelled through the hole, before directing her own armor through without adding too much to the damage.
At the sight of Drachen she yelled out a friendly “Helloooo nurse!” before parking her own armor against the wall. Carefully she climbed down, the detached tail tucked under one arm. There was also the problem of her leg, which she tried not to favor too noticeably, but she reached the smooth floor without any issues. It was good to be back home.
"Hey babe! Can I get some tail?"
At that Hailfire’s mouth slowly pulled itself into a great big grin, a worrying sign that she was feeling particularly mischievous. She turned around to face Drachen, the grin still on her face. “If you insist, hon!” And with that she tossed her makeshift spear at him with just enough force to actually reach him, the end where it had been cut off first so as not to stab the poor guy. It would, however, probably knock him flat on his rear if he doesn’t catch it correctly or avoid it altogether.
It was unsure if the pet names between the two hinted at anything more than a friendly relationship—with Hailfire, one can never truly know. “I’m gonna need that reattached, if you don’t mind~” Hailfire said in a singsong voice as she approached, letting Drachen get a brief look at her wounds as she took a few steps in the direction of the infirmary; he just might get his wish after all.
But, first thing’s first. Hailfire stopped and turned to the statuesque reploid that was their leader and gave him a salute. “Hello, Commander Wolff,” Hailfire said in a pleasant tone. “Everyone’s made it back in one piece, though we’ve acquired a stray.” She jerked her head in the direction of the Eagle Armor carrying Zweiton in through the busted door. “I think you’ll find his story interesting.”
~~~~~

Zweiton didn’t even get to see what the base looked like from the outside due to his hunkering down in the cockpit. The steady thumping of massive metal feet was the only thing his world was comprised of, oblivious to the passing of the landscape. The Eagle Armor controlled itself and he was happy to let it do its own thing, as Zweiton had no clue how to even begin to make this thing move. In fact, he couldn’t even guess what half the buttons on the control panel actually did and he wasn’t about to find out.

The horrendous screech of metal on metal drew him out of his thoughts and he very visibly jumped, though nobody was able to see it. The sound was enough to cautiously draw Zweiton out, where he could see a suspiciously Eagle Armor-shaped hole in a large metal door. It reminded him of the one he had to open back at Eichel Engineering. Then he noticed the building the door was attached to. Had they arrived?

His ride lurched forward again, maneuvering through the hole in the door and automatically parking itself along the wall. Its duty done, it shut down to wait until it was needed once more. Zweiton peered over the edge of the cockpit and saw that everyone was climbing out of their rides and assumed that they were indeed ‘here’. Looking at the climb down, Zweiton looked like a cat that had been stuck at the top of a tree; getting up had been easy, but getting down looked like more of a challenge.

He slowly eased himself out, using whatever footholds he could find. He didn’t take into account how smooth the metal was and slipped, falling the rest of the way down. He slowly pulled himself up off the ground, using the Eagle Armor for support. Collecting himself for a moment Zweiton, catching the end of Hailfire and Drachen’s conversation, made a bewildered face at the person closest one to him and jabbed a thumb at Hailfire. “Are they—?” he asked, referring to the flirty commentary between the two.

Then all hell broke loose as four dog-sized robots suddenly came careening through one of the hallways that led deeper into the base, roaring and chirping excitedly. They were two bright, lime green dragons that walked on their wings and two gray, very long ones resembling Asian dragons. They started to head towards Hailfire, but they all suddenly stopped upon noticing Zweiton and stared for a moment, completely silent.

In the next moment, they roared and charged for him.

He tried to scramble back up the side of the Eagle Armor in a panic, but they were just too fast and Zweiton was quickly buried under a dragon-pile. Muffled pleas for help and statements that he was under attack came from the unfortunate android under the mess. Really, the worst things they were doing were nuzzling and nipping a bit too hard. Hailfire’s cackling rang out above the noises the dragons were making at their new guest. They seemed to like meeting new visitors.
